Golwen sends a quick mental communication to his trusted friend, Keep watch over the entrance; Let us know if anyone follows; Be safe, before moving cautiously into the cave proper.
The grisly scene increases Golwen's general sense of foreboding, but he steels his nerve and focuses on the innocents likely trapped farther in.

Rhevia perches on a tree above the entrance. She ruffles her feathers and massages the branch with her talons before settling in.

Stepping forward, Rhodrick lifts the torch to illuminate this chamber as much as possible. He looks at the remains on the floor to try to identify if they are animal or humanoid.

It is difficult for Rhodrick to determine what creature these entrails came from. The congealed blood has begun to turn black, but he can see the tinges of red. Rhodrick suspects the remains were from a humanoid, but cannot find any substantial proof.
OOC:
Don't worry about the torch. It will last until the proper dramatic moment. :)Mar 16, 2017 4:12 pm
The party moves on and enters further into the cave. It is easy to tell that you are starting to descend now along a very gradual decline. You step through a narrow passageway that opens up into an area of uneven ground. Through torchlight and fey darkvision you can see that there are two ways you can go: west as the path descends, or north where it seems to flatten out.
The air is thick. There is a faint shuffling sound that seems to echo against the cavernous walls.

Uncertain which route is more likely to take the party on the most direct path to their goal, Golwen pauses to listen...even smell...in the hopes of perceiving even the faintest clue.

The rock-strewn ground mixed with stalagmites plays havoc with your sight as they create tricks of shadow and depth, making it difficult to determine how the caverns extend. However, as you proceed gingerly across the uneven floor, some of you blink as the shadows seem to move. Rhodrick nearly trips as his foot slides off a jagged stone.
Your eyes have adjusted to the torchlight, and you spy many hunched shapes that seem to blend into the stone. Standing upright with filthy skin that appears like the earth itself, these creatures have matted hair upon grotesque and misshapen heads. There are nine of these humanoids, and they appear to be lying in ambush for your arrival. They have not moved closer, as if expecting you to continue your approach.
