CancerMan sent a note to Leviathan75
Rhodrick pulls his rapiers free of the wheezing grimlock, who breathes its last as it falls to the ground.
OOC:
Combat over! No opponents left.
Mar 31, 2017 12:24 am
CancerMan says:

The two remaining creatures in the left passageway all let out a low moan. It sounds like a dull vibration from inside the chest, and it echoes along the cavern walls. They then turn and scurry over and around the rocks, disappearing and descending further into the cave.
Parallel does a mental count...and comes up short.

"I think a couple got away -- we should go down the left passage, and quickly -- if there are survivors, they may be in danger."

"I guess... What is that smell?"

Haesh turns to look at Parallel and chuckles as he sees his hair. "Close one, eh?"

Haesh brings his hammer down to his foot and wipes off the gore with his heel. He rolls his shoulders and looks at his companions.

"Ready gents?"
Mar 31, 2017 11:29 am
Parallel sniffs the air and reaches up where Haesh is looking.

"Hey! -- " but then hurries to keep up with the group down the left passage.

At the suggestion of survivors and distress Go,wen forgets all else and quickly follows the group.

Rhodrick wipes his rapiers on the grimlock that just fell and stows them. He pulls a fresh torch from his pack and strikes a spark to it before hastening after his companions.

Together, you quickly pick your way over the uneven ground of slick stones. As you progress down the passageway, your nose is assailed by the scent of death and decay.

You enter into a larger cavern in width, but not in height. The ceiling hangs low about 10 feet, smaller in some areas, made more oppressive by the stalagmites and stalactites scattered throughout. As you step further into this cavern, you cannot help but imagine yourselves as walking into the maw of a many-toothed gargantuan creature.

The torchlight reflects upon something slick. You think you see a figure standing near a stalactite and ready your weapons, but upon closer inspection you realize that it is the nude and headless body of a male human, trussed up on the ceiling by his feet. The entrails have been removed, and most noticeable is the fact that chunks of flesh have been carved from the arms and torso. It calls to mind a butcher's shop.

As you ponder the grisly scene, you realize that further in there are dozens of bodies, all hanging from the ceiling. Some appear to be nothing more than bones held together by loose scraps of sinew, while others appear virtually untouched. All are missing their heads.

The torchlight shows a few small side chambers to this cavern, while darkness extends further westward. There is no sign of any grimlocks.

Haeah looks upon the corpses with disgust. He looks around to see how the corpses are held up to the ceiling.

"Why would any creature do such a thing?"

Rolls

Perception - (1d20+3)

(16) + 3 = 19

Apr 4, 2017 6:38 pm
Each corpse is tied to the ceiling with a network of ropes and vines secured between stalactites. The nature of these bindings are haphazard, like it was cobbled together out of whatever could be found or scavenged.

Sharing Haesh's sentiment, Golwen leaves his friend to try and figure it out while he secures the area. Without moving far from the group he begins by using his keen vision to peer into the alcoves along the sides of the cave! Or at least those which he is able from his current position.

Are we alone...?

Rolls

Perception - (1D20+4)

(17) + 4 = 21

Familiar with the creatures he recently fought, Golwen realizes that the party is definitely not alone in this area. Surrounding the party and lurking in the periphery of the torchlight are over a dozen grimlocks practically blending into the rocks they hide behind.

As though sensing that their ambush was spoiled, the grimlocks unanimously detach from their positions and charge. They scuttle around and between the stones, brandishing wicked-looking spiked clubs.
OOC:
Grimlocks gained initiative and advance en masse.

Battlefield Features:
Stalagmites/Stalactites
Trussed headless bodies
The entire area is considered difficult terrain due to the density of rock formations and hanging bodies.

Heash takes a look around at all of his advancing foes. He turns to his companions and calls out, "Fall back close to the walls or else they will overwhelm us!"

He pushes past his companions and tries to drag Parallel along with him.
OOC:
Haesh is making his way toward square S-16. (Also using dash if allowed)

Rolls

Strength Check (moving Parallel) - (1d20+4)

(5) + 4 = 9

OOC:
I don't count diagonal movement across squares as taking up extra movement. You can basically move 6 squares in any direction (3 in difficult terrain), so Haesh can reach S-16 without having to Dash.
Apr 5, 2017 2:22 pm
Seeing the wisdom in Haesh' words, Jandral moves to put a wall behind him. But not before he fires off a fusillade of magical darts against the nearest grimlock.
OOC:
Magic Missile vs. M14. Then, moving to T15.

"Aye," growls Rhodrick, "And if we drift back to the path we came by we can take them two at a time."

Rhod drops his torch and draws his off-hand blade. With both rapiers ready he follows Haesh's direction and takes up the position to the other fighter's north.

"Well spotted, Master Elf," he says to Golwen.
OOC:
Rhod moves to S15 and readies his attack for the first grimlock that approaches. We should think about making it back to the bottleneck at Y12-13!
Apr 5, 2017 4:30 pm
Jandral's magical bolts swerve around the stone and bodies, unerringly striking their target in rapid succession. It lets out a low growl of both pain and anger, continuing its advance.
OOC:
Actions left to take:
Golwen
Parallel

Battlefield Features:
Stalagmites/Stalactites
Trussed headless bodies

Hearing the fighters' commands and immediately seeing their logic, Golwen casts a spell to buy the group some time and slow down a few of their foes. After a quick but precisely worded arcane chant, he retreats back toward the passage that brought them all here.
OOC:
Grease centred on Grimlock 6, then movement to T16.

Parallel Nick's an arrow, retreats to T14 (V14 if not difficult here), turns and shoots at Gr4, then turns and dashes (cunning, bonus) as far as he can get back behind the bottleneck near Y.

Rolls

Shortbow, damage - (1d20+6, 1d6+4)

1d6+4 : (1) + 4 = 5
