LAND OF MAG: GAME

A procession of chanting people begin to descend the stairs toward you. There are five … six of them. All wear robes similar to Urukh's but without the fancy sigils of a Mag-priest. They carry no torches. Their eye sockets are empty. They are chanting an invocation of vanished Mag.

The leader senses your presence and stops a couple steps above Urukh. "What do you do in this sacred place?" she demands. Her shrill voice echoes in the stairwell.

Dyeuz being completely out of his element squares up and attempts to look like vastly more trouble than it is worth to fight.

An odor wafts down the steps. It is very old and stale. Flesh so withered that it barely smells of decay. Yet it still does.

The chanting continues. "What do you do here?" the leader demands a second time.

Urukh puts on the bony mask and makes a grand gesture.
"We are here to honor the great Mag. His Voice guided us to this place and promised us a great revelation"
He makes an exagerated weariness sight
"Yet here we are exhausted, and we have not found what was promised yet. We must rest."

"Oh, come with us to the lower chamber!" the leader insists. "There is rest enough for all there. All honor to Mag!"
May 30, 2025 6:46 pm
"All honor to Mag! We appreciate you offer, and we will definitely be back. Can you indicate where we can found you once we are back. So we don't look for you everywhere?"

"We will find you!" the dead cult leader says shrilly, with a grimace somewhat like a smile. She thumps Urukh's shoulder with a hand that shows bare bones at the knuckles. "We must go down to celebrate!" She waves her hand to her eyeless cohort and the whole group trods down the stairs out of your torchlight, steady on into the dark depths.

What do you do?

@Jomsviking,@GeneralET You pass on through the circular room with all the runes on the floor, through the iron doorway and out into the basement of the abandoned temple. How did you get into the temple in the first place? It's at the side of the newer Citadel district where the royal family lives. There's a contingent of three Kings Guards who patrol the grounds.
The City Magog says:
Magog was the principal temple city of the four-armed god-king Mag (dec'd). Center of learning (several libraries filled with tomes of magic), commerce (banks and guilds), decorative and useful arts, and politics. King of Magog claims that kings of Gogog and Yogog merely ape fashions from capital. Harvesters of lumber from Dimwoods, vintners of grapes from Isle-of-Vines and berries from Grove-of- Stars. City guards maintain the boundaries between socially stratified districts. Vicious packs of trash-pixies roam the back alleys and rooftops.

"We need fresh meat!"

Dyeuz remarks seeing the new arrivals as he heads immediately to tend to his donkey, Baalam.

"We should rest for a bit, then go back to retrieve the unyielding ring."

@jomsviking the others aren't in the basement. They may turn up in town.
Carefully leading Baalam up the ramp from the basement to the side of the courtyard, you keep your eyes open for the patrolling Kings Guards … you had hoped the mule would be laden with treasure, but so far no.

Looking at the map above, you are at ③. "Shades Corner" ④ seems like the kind of neighborhood where you might have rooms:
Shades Corner says:
Shades Corners: the disreputable and fun part of town. Smells of wine and smoked meats. The streets are dirt made muddy by vomit and so on. Courtiers, farmers, crafters, guards, soldiers, reavers, all intersect here to roister. Guards on duty look aside while their off-duty comrades get into punch ups and waylay drunks; but they're quick to respond if a buddy gets bound up.
It's dark out. Do you head that way?
