Please Xcrawl, Don't Hurt 'Em

Callan pats at the flames on his shirt, taking care not to slap his freshly-acquired wound; it's a vintage Juno Priest shirt from the Olympian Epitaph tour! Can't have that going up in flames... Although the slash across the shoulder just adds a little of that X-Crawl Factor that makes for a perfect look!

"What an intense round we've got here!" the announcer says into his Loud Mouth Microphone and looking at one camera. "I think they're putting on a warm-up show for the crowd. A tightly packed group of undead is an ideal target for a messenger to turn, but instead the Houston Hexcrawler's messenger, Bole, the Tree of Repudiation, went with a projectile attack and scored a solid hit! 'Bombastic' Butch was not so lucky but he did look good doing it. Sassafrass returned just in time for the attack but her shot missed by mere inches. Vi Vi scores a glancing both but took worse in the exchange! That reminds me, if you are looking to exchange your currency, try Quik XChange, the only currency exchange to offer deferred payments. Back to the match, it appears their blaster was going to unleash a spell but took a nasty hit and lost his concentration. Tymun the dwarf mechanic also doesn't escape unscathed but he returns more than he got with a direct chop to a zombie's torso. The clear winner this round is HH's athlete, Gabriel Carver. While he took a knife to the arm, he severed the zombie's arm, literally disarming it! That was followed by a whiffing punch but let's focus on the disarm!"
OOC:
+1 Fame for Butch and Callan. 4 zombies took damage, 2 are unharmed, all are still standing. Butch and Bole are up!
Apr 5, 2025 8:48 am
"You heard the man, Bole, give the people what they want!" Butch shouts out at the group's Messenger, despite having a headset with a mic on him already. That's part of what makes him 'Bombastic', he was never into that sneaky whisper-into-the-mic stuff like he's some wannabe commando. Xcrawl to him is about being loud and flashy, working the crowd first and foremost. With that, he braces his shield to hold the zombies from pouring out of the elevator and takes another stab at the one he sliced earlier.
OOC:
Besides advising Bole to use his Turn ability, consider this using his Mojo for the turn check, if applicable. The Jammer's ability reads: " The jammer has a special Mojo ability. Unlike members of every other class, the jammer has the ability to boost their ally’s attack rolls, spell checks, or skill checks with Mojo points from their own pool after the die roll." So assuming Mojo can be added to the Turn check (not sure if it's an attack/spell/skill check or something else altogether), assuming Bole does use Turn and assuming that after his roll, adding Mojo would somehow improve the results, consider me having passed him some.

Sorry for the if/then/else vibe, it feels like jumping in to give Mojo would wrok fine around a live table but I'm not sure in a PbP setting I'll be around in time to interject myself and do the same.

Gratefully, Bole nods, grasping the miniature moon that he wears around his neck - the holy symbol of Diana - and attempts the Holy Act of Turning these Unholy zombies. "In Diana's name, I rebuke thee, cursed spawn of the pits!"

"What a beautiful turning by Bole! Four of the purge zombies are fleeing straight past the Houston Hexcrawlers and out of the building! They have been removed from the game. The two remaining zombies attack Butch and Callan. Ooh! A direct hit to Butch's shield has shattered his weapon! That zombie is...dead meat! Thank you, thank you, hold your applause. The one attacking Callan has also missed by a wide margin and will surely not survive the next few seconds! What a quick turn around!"

Seeing her opportunity to add her specialty flair and crank the fan meter, Sassafras darts forward, does a flashy somersault ending in a jab to the back of one of the two zombies remaining with the logo on her Phang Blade dagger facing the cameras.

"Nice work, Bole!" Gabriel bellows out as his one-armed opponent high-tails it out of the room.

Taking stock of the situation, he quickly moves towards Callan and his foe, hoping to create some distance for the team's blaster.

He dives straight into the zombie with a thigh-and-drive tackle his old coach would have been proud of, and follows up with a quick swing of the axe to force the creature further backwards.

"You okay, Cal?" he says as soon as he's got firm ground under his feet. "Need a hand-" he does a double-take as he gets a closer look, "or, eh, some... some bugspray...?"
OOC:
Realized I messed up on the last round. I rolled for a regular unarmed attack, but it's only supposed to be a d14 for the free bonus attack. 'Fortunately' i missed anyway.

Callan spits out a few stray bugs as he responds.

"Just working out the kinks, Gabe."

With a much less flashy build up, Cal prepares a quick blast to finish off his attacker - a blue-light blast of freezing energy.

"And what a spectacular finish! It was a foregone conclusion that the zombies would be pulped, but it's always great to see such style! I think that frozen one can be saved for later so let's get that one wheeled out and thawed for a future game. It's a good thing this building is set for demolition anyways, I'd hate to be the janitor to clean up this mess! Anyway, Crawl fans, the Houston Hexcrawlers have defeated the elevator trap and are likely to ascend to the rooftop for the real first challenge. We'll rejoin them at the top after a word from our first sponsor, Go-Go-Godzilla Personal Trash Compactors!"
OOC:
Great job! Out of combat. The elevator is open and free of any further traps.
Apr 7, 2025 7:42 am
"See? Told you the elevator would be trapped!" Vi Vi says with a chirp. There had been no doubt in her mind…

"That was kid stuff! Let’s get to the roof and really rack up the sponsorship deals!!" she says, stepping into the elevator!
Apr 7, 2025 3:20 pm
Butch sheathes his Phang Blade and puts a meaty hand on the elevator doors (for show) and a stealthy knee on the motion sensor (for actual effect) to block them from closing.

"You must be going up Vi, because those zombies are going down" he says, giving her a wink and the finger gun with his free hand.
OOC:
If I'm reading the Grandstanding rules right, we get one shot during combat and one more right after it's finished, so you bet Butch will milk every single opportunity to show off!

Tymun flexes his arm, grimacing in the pain from his burn. Still not comfortable with elevators, he steps in anyway, hoping he looks more confident than he feels.

"Bring on the REAL challenges! Not these JV stunts," the dwarf says with forced bravado.

Sassafras heads to the elevator with the rest.
She fully expects a trap at the top too, so she gets her tools out.
As she squeezes in, she give Bole a nod for the shoutout. She wins fans the old fashioned way; by being awesome.
Apr 8, 2025 1:51 pm
Eventually, the elevator stops and the doors upon to reveal a threadbare lobby on the 40th floor. There is a ladder going up to a closed trap door in the ceiling. The first apartment door to the left of the elevator is marked NoGo. Anyone who makes it down here can run into that apartment where they will be declared out of play and disqualified, but alive.

Continuing up the ladder, you emerge onto the roof to a huge cheer. You see stadium seating on the three tall buildings on the sides of the one you stand on, and the capacity crowd are all on their feet. Looking up you see a huge three-sided AVS scoreboard slowly revolving over the roof.

The roof has several interesting features. In the very center is a huge steel wingnut, more than 40’ across, it looks as if it weighs tons. It is screwed down on an equally massive threaded bolt that comes up through the roof. Across the side is painted "RIGHTY TIGHTY," in large, jagged letters.

Set around the edge of the roof are five purple corrugated steel containers, each decorated with large question marks on every side. At the opposite end of the building from where you stand is a huge teeter-totter—an absurdly huge thing, big enough support a compact car. The teeter-totter sits behind a double row of barbed wire. The near end of the teeter-totter is currently down, and there is a
large barrel set upon it. You see a stack of barrels next to the teetertotter as well. Behind the teeter-totter is a huge billboard with a
vintage advertisement for Chrysler. The announcer says: "Crawlers, your challenge is to unscrew and remove that wingnut. Begin!"

Figuring that she brought her tools out for a reason, Sassafras strides toward the threaded bolt at the center of the giant wingnut and checks for any of Rosie’s usual tricks.
As she approaches, she shouts over her shoulder, "I think some of you should feel pretty called out right now!" she giggles.
