Chapter 1.1 - Ruckus + Teacher

Hanami glares at Mizore. "Is your head an empty igloo!? Gah... Just let me finish showing my squad how to do this, and then I'll come help you out." She turns to her French Toast Squad. "Okay, now dip the bread in the mixture until fully soaked, then bring it to the pan!"

She puts a custard-soaked slice into a pan that's already prepared with some of the clarified butter. "Then you cook each side until golden brown. That takes about three minutes per side." The end of her wand magically cleans itself and shifts into a spatula. She flips the french toast skillfully. "See? It's real easy. Keep finished slices warm under those warming lamps, got it? We don't want them getting cold before we serve. Also, don't overcrowd the pans!"

She rushes over to Mizore and her appointed Ice Cream Squad. "Okay, I'm only showing you guys once, so pay attention. We're going to put the milk, the sugar, the vanilla extract, the heavy cream, and a pinch of salt into a sauce pan. Like so! Then we'll move it to the stovetop and warm it on medium-low heat for five minutes, whisking often. The important part is making sure the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is warmed through!"

After demonstrating, she takes the ice cream base off the heat and transfers it into a large bowl, covering it with cling wrap. "Okay, this is where you do your thing, Mizore-sensei. We'll accomplish 24 hours of chilling in just a few minutes! Cool the entire mixture until it's just under 4 °C. If you're not capable of that sort of precision, then use a food thermometer to track the temperature." She takes a food thermometer and stabs the stainless steel probe through the bowl's wrap covering, dipping into the ice cream base. "Once you've reduced the entire base to a uniform temperature, bring it to the ice cream maker..." She proceeds to show them how to work the ice cream maker.

"This is a pretty high-end one, so if you don't screw it up, you should have the time to make chocolate and strawberry flavors before we run out of time. On that note, two of you start melting the chocolate and puréeing the strawberries!"

Now that Mizore's squad is properly instructed, she returns to the French Toast Squad. She's pleased when the smell of french toast reaches her nose, but a stronger, more succulent smell overpowers it. She looks over at Sumeryu's group and their accomplishments. She gulps down a sudden influx of drool. It all looks so good!!

Rather than despair at the divine waffle-y perfection Sumeryu's group has achieved, she's compelled to reach similar perfection. She puts her focus back on her group, fire igniting within her eyes. "Alright, we're giving it everything we have! If anyone slacks off, they get zapped!" She cooks like her life depends on it. Despite her threat, she's just annoyed but ultimately fair and informative when she is asked for questions or guidance. A few students might've even caught her smiling, though she'd vehemently deny it if called out.

Before long, the french toast is ready to go at the same time that Mizore's squad finishes the ice cream. Hanami puts together a plate of golden brown french toast, garnished with fresh fruit and a light dusting of cinnamon and confectioner's sugar, served with a scoop of fresh vanilla ice cream on the side. Syrup and honey is available to use.

Hanami carefully towels some sweat from her brow. "It's finished..." Even though the dish looks fit enough for a cooking magazine, she still feels they could've done better. However, there's nothing more to be done.

"Who's going to judge this anyway? Ibuki?" She asks as she holds the plate. "Shouldn't we have more than one judge?"

Ibuki was distracted by the sudden appearance of 1 Ruby Tojo and does not appear to notice this last act of shenyang occurring as she is fighting off Ruby's attempts to get her to wear a bandanna with the title 'The iron stomach' on it

Hanami's eye twitches dangerously. "Damn you... That's not a little mistake at all! Take this!" Pulling out her wand, she brutally zaps Mizore with a beam of lightning!

She's forced to present the French toast without ice cream, seeing as it's inedibly spicy. She seems extremely cross as the waffles achieve a unanimous victory.

"As if they're that good... I'm gonna try some!" She grabs a plate of waffles and takes a bite... She finds herself in waffle nirvana. "Oh... What is this? It's perfect." She glows as if she's found true enlightenment. The brightness is almost painful to look at.

Hibana is very happy to see the waffle (that she sorta helped with) is making Hanami happy, even though she’s on the other team.

"Oh, yay! You like it! You really like it!"

"While both dishes were made exceptionally well Sumeryu's waffles are even more exceptional, these feel like they were made with a goal in mind, a goal to see the happy expression on whomever she wished to serve this dish to... Though there is something that was off to me, Hanami wwas your group not also working on an ice cream topping? What happened to made you give up on the idea before the final presentation?" Ibuki will walk over to where said ice cream sits

Sumeryu doesn't know about the true source of the drama and instead chalks it up to Mizore being a masochist.

"These are waffles made with skill, pride, and teamwork! This is what a group of people working together can achieve!" Sumeryu announces in reply to Hanami.

"I'm very proud of all of you," she says to her teammates, all of them, including the whole class.

"I don't just like it... I love it, Hibana-chan! You, Sumeryu-chan and the rest of your team have really outdone yourselves." It seems the waffles were so good that they changed Hanami's entire character.

She smiles when Ibuki asks her a question. "Mizore-sensei accidentally added super-hot chili sauce to the ice cream. However, all is forgiven. I apologize for zapping you in anger, Mizore-sensei! It wasn't right to condemn you for a simple mistake. What matters is that you tried!"

She eats another bite of waffles, this time pairing it with some of the bacon. "Mmm... I've found peace. I'll never zap anyone ever again!"

Oh, Ruby wouldn't like that. Not at all.

Ibuki puts a scoop of ice cream in her mouth as hanami explains to her what went wrong

"hmm this is certainly an excessive spicy sauce but otherwise this ice cream is actually excellent, while ice cream for breakfast may seem odd in actuality recent studies have shown a cold treat in the morning helps to awaken the mind" Ibuki takes another bite seemingly unbothered by the spice

Lín Jìng suddenly realises something. "Wait a second. If the nurse is here, and the nursery is . . . Hanami, don't you need to uphold your Hippocratic promise or something?"

Hibana is giddy from the praise. "I’m sure your ‘spice cream’—" Or ‘spice scream?’ "—is yummy too! I may have to save room for some o’ that."

But after a waffle crumb and a tiny morsel of strawberry, the fairy is full and there is maple syrup and molten chocolate dripping down her skin. After licking a gob of whipped cream from her fingers, Hibana becomes a violet spark.

There is a barely audible *splat* as drops of syrup and chocolate fall onto the table under where the fairy just was.

She then reverts to her normal self, and tries to console Ruby. "Or, Ruby-chan. I certainly hope everyone was trying to be fair and forgive mistakes in such a friendly competition.

"Please turn that frown upside down."

She then hovers making a big frown, and turns her entire body upside down (remembering in the nick of time to place her hands firmly against her skirt so it doesn’t flop and Give A Wrong Impression). She is still maintaining an exaggerated frown, but it’s smile-shaped after the 180-degree rotation.

"Ah, that's a neat trick, Hibana-chan," smiles Sumeryu, praising the tiny fire fairy further. When is the right time to insist that Hibana stay with Sumeryu because she's fireproof? Hmmmm. Have to choose the moment carefully...

She returns Kurumu's enthusiastic hug squeezing her smaller teacher against her chest and making sure that Hibana doesn't get squished.

After the hug is over, Sumeryu turns around, puts her hands on her hips, and tsks in Ruby's direction. "Tojo-san," she says, clearly disappointed with the person theoretically responsible for so much, "Dr. Matsuyama is not a dispensary for your habits. You are embarrassing her and yourself. If someone must punish you, then I will."

She holds out her left hand and makes a fist, conjuring a lance of electricity three feet long and pointing it at Ruby. Her manner is stern and uncompromising and, in her own mind, she intends to rescue Hanami from Ruby being really weird. This will, of course, not backfire at all. Her monogrammed apron and chef's hat makes her look a little ridiculous.
