Anyone up for a Trail of Cthulhu adventure using the first version rules? I’m not sure how well it would run using PbP so we’d be safer to run a short adventure first to test that it’s viable. Then perhaps develop a longer arc if we’re all happy that it works.
>Trail of Cthulhu is an investigative horror role-playing game in which the players' characters investigate mysterious events related to the Cthulhu Mythos. We’ll set this adventure within 1920s Arkham , the classic setting.
Expectations. We’ll need to figure out a fun, light means of conducting investigations within the limitations of short, regular posts. A starting point will be that players will be responsible for declaring what investigative skills they are applying, limited to one or two at a time to keep threads readable.
>>>Emphasis on characterisation and role-play.
>>> I reserve the right to fudge/ simplify rules to keep things going
Game Duration & Post Frequency:
>>>Start with a short adventure to check the system is viable using PbP
>>>3-5 posts a week for potential players. Prefer folks not to vanish completely at weekends.
Player Experience Requirements:
>>>Open to everyone but does require everyone access condensed rules and give them a look through
>>> This is a detective, clue-based adventure so is best suited to those who enjoy puzzling and sleuthing
>>> some basic interest in Lovecraft’s literature and/or the 1920s would help contribute to the atmosphere of the game
Character Creation & Restrictions:
>>>pick a profession from those listed in the condensed rules and work from there. Most professions have at least one special ability so I can tell you about those from my copy of the rules.
>>> Initially, starting with a single character per player is the best option but once play has progressed a bit I'd be open to the option of players having multiple characters in play.
Sensitive Content:
>> Your character is more likely to die or go insane than in most rpgs
>>deals with issues of sanity/ insanity and is set in Lovecraft’s bleak Cosmos.
>>1920s setting may expose issues of class, gender, etc. but these will not
Application
>>>Leave a comment below expressing interest, please. I’ll open a forum if/ once things start looking viable.
