Here you go! This is a real thing, an official alternative setting and rules from Chaosium, to play pet investigators.

Introducing Alex Cowley:
[ +- ] Alex Cowley
And his cat, Gremlin:

https://i.ibb.co/hkRc103/Untitled.jpg

Alex makes a (poor) living debunking mediums and spiritualists, while on the look out for the real deal which he believes is possibly out there. He has a scientific background thanks to a mentor of his, the skeptic Paul Eckhart, and a sharp eye for trickery and flimflammery thanks to an early adulthood working in a circus as an acrobat and set up man (those who erect the tents, rig the lighting, etc). He knows how fake ghostly effects are often created, and can recreate them himself. This has caused him to be the target of a certain amount of rough handling from those he reveals to be fakes and con artists, and as a result he can handle himself in a fight, but soon tires thanks to a childhood illness that often leaves him short of breath and with blurred sight after exertions.

Where does the adventure take place?

@Drgwen Amazing game concept! I know plenty of players who would play that.

@Lemming23 That looks really sound. The skills cover the investigative gaps effectively and he makes for an interesting character in his own right.

I’ll copy the extra background info over to the ‘equipment’ thread as I think it rounds him out well.

Basic setting info is in the ad/ game info.

>Trail of Cthulhu is an investigative horror role-playing game in which the players' characters investigate mysterious events related to the Cthulhu Mythos. We’ll set this adventure within 1920s Arkham , the classic setting.

The game info also mentions the location, a mansion on French Hill, where you will be gathered to start out the investigation. I’ll repeat this when we get started.

I have a hard copy of the CoC Arkham Gazetteer which I’ll use throughout. There’s an interesting online resource here that seems to be based on the same maps and descriptions.

Clancy Bleasdale, former sports star turned investigative journalist. Gave up a career as a football player to pursue the journalistic arts. Has insatiable curiosity and loves learning a little bit about everything. Strong sense of moral correctness which often gets him in trouble when his superiors try to censor some of his reportings in the name of "the greater good." He's been working at the Arkham Advertiser for several years and enjoys a comfortable bachelor lifestyle.

Clancy certainly looks more buff than the tweedy types I usually visualise. And why not ? Loads of athletics and health to back it up.

Ok, so now just @ctme2000 ‘s character to go.

In the recruitment thread, a poster (with experience of running ToC via PbP) suggests this as a way to handle the to and fro of point spend ( for invest skills):
Quote:

On my side in PbP I ask my player to announce how much they are ready to pay when they want to use an investigation skill, then I takes only what necessary 0 points if there is nothing to find or if it is a core clue. It somewhat speeds up think.

I think this could work as we don’t want to be going back and forward with ‘ that gives this core info, want to spend more?, what would I get for 2 extra? how much?’.

I’m very keen for the game to move at a decent pace so I think we should go with the tip.

I understand that the mechanic requires the GM provide core clues with no spend. so I won’t be snatching up extra spends unless you get something genuinely extra and useful.

Not an expert on this game system (having just read it and never played it), but in theory this tip sounds like a good idea.

Sorry for the delay y'all, lot of work and home stuff going on this week but it's finally slowed down. Will get character submitted soon.

Thanks Dr_B. It’s an amazing piece of work by someone. It’s the 20s location pics that do it for me.
