So... where are we at?

Drgwen = roll 3d6 down the line and then see what fits.
But fine if others would prefer it done it differently.

Synaptic = rolling up character stats and picking a class based on what you get.

Balthazar = roll 3d6 down the line (reroll if not two 14+'s) see what fits

GeneralET = roll stats in line and make do with the outcome. (but good either way)

My IRL Old School Essentials game does 3d6 down the line, but if you get none over 14, or one under six, you can choose to reroll if you want. Then once you have your six stats, you can swap two sets once—that allows you some flexibility to choose your class.

I could live with that method

Looks like everyone is here and the discussion is underway! How about this, we split the difference. Make two PCs. One 3d6 down the line. The second PC is 3d6 you choose where to place the them and pick your class based of this. Start with the 3d6 character down the line and if this character kicks the bucket then the second character comes online.

sounds good to me
Apr 18, 2025 6:47 am
Agreed, sounds like a good compromise!
Apr 18, 2025 9:33 am
Sounds good.

So basically you are 100% going to kill our first character... Im here for it!!!! lol
Apr 19, 2025 4:45 am
Oh that's a fun compromise! Agreed.

All of you are welcome to use https://shadowdarklings.net/ to create your character. You do not have to show your rolls. We will use the honor system, I trust ya.

Do you want story mode with "quest givers" etc? or I provide the three modules with a description of what they are and you pick one and hop right into it?
Apr 21, 2025 5:12 am
I'm open! We could just cut straight to the modules, I suppose? No need to make you do extra work. Besides, getting into the dungeon/hex crawling or whatever is the fun part!
Apr 21, 2025 8:07 am
I'm fine with just jumping into a module. The start of a new game can often feel a little slow, so might be good to start close to the action!

I'm good with jumping into a Module.
Apr 21, 2025 2:58 pm
I'm all for getting into the action

Here are some leve1 adventures. Let me know which one you would like to play?

Things Below: Eberta Toll the waterways guild master offers 50 gp to explore the tunnels and find out what happened to Clamdor the tunnel engineer.

Ill Gotten Gains: The pirates of the Vermin Wake lair in the fallen temple of Avarice, the
forgotten God of Greed. Raiding their hideout while they scour the seas promises to yield countless pilfered riches…

Wizard’s Game: A wizard challenges you to a game of skill and wits. Is the wizard playing fair or is this wizard playing for keeps?

The Forest of Doors: Some say when one door closes another door opens. The pale door has opened for you and the maze that lies beyond is known as the Forest of Doors.

I vote for Forest of Doors.

I will be out of town for the next 3 days. Expect me to post back this weekend at the latest.
Apr 22, 2025 1:23 pm
I cast my vote on the Wizard's Game.

But regardless of what will be played I'm sure it'll be plenty of fun.
Apr 22, 2025 1:30 pm
And I'll throw my vote for Ill Gotten Gains. But like above, all of the them sound interesting.
Apr 22, 2025 1:41 pm
Hmmm... Wizard's Game sounds interesting because I have the least idea what it might be.

Things Below and Ill Gotten Gains are gonna be exploring tunnels, finding beasties that may explain the missing guy in one case and avoiding pirate traps in the other. Forest of Doors sounds like a mapping nightmare, unless the GM provides the map! But I have no idea what Wizard's Game is like!
