Story Background

Welcome to the village of Ormskirk...

Anyone living in a more civilized area of the world would hardly consider Ormskirk a village at all. Home to only about 100 people from 24 families, Ormskirk is located in the Outlands. A hard, cold area of the world full of hard, cold people. Eeking out a living in Ormskirk means a life of tilling rough clay during the spring and summer while hunting for game during the winter.

The village is surrounded on almost all sides by a dense forest, called the Wilds, which is home to all manner of beasts. To the north are the Kryfeb Mountains, known locally just as "The Mountains" or "The Mounts", where few tread deep into. To the southwest is a very large lake, the Criss, which is another source of food year-round. The closest villages are Narthwich to the west and Myrefall to the south. Trade between the three villages, and a dozen or so more beyond, is common during the fairer months but few have ventured out into the Wider World. A townsperson might only see an Outsider trader once every couple of years at best.

It is currently the middle of winter; the snows are high, travel is difficult, trade nearly impossible. The Criss is frozen over, the local fishing boats moored covered for the coming months. The fields are barren, what livestock exists are turned in for the winter and people are staying in their modest but warm homes to stave off the cold.

The four of you have recently been told to come meet with the village council, they have need of your talents...

Theme

This is a survival mystery adventure that is mostly linear. That isn't to say that you can't make decisions that change outcomes, but this is not a West Marches-style game where you can go anywhere and do anything.

Game Length

This is a homebrew campaign I've run once before for some friends, and I have no intentions of it continuing after we're done. But who knows, if we're all having fun I might change my mind.

House Rules

1. When leveling and rolling for HP, if the result is lower than the class average, you can take the average instead. I'm okay with you all being a little tougher than the average.

Post Frequency

I'd like to see one post a day per player during the weekdays. Weekends are bonus times and there is no guarantee from either myself or any of the players that there will be weekend posts. Summer is on the horizon and I know I have several multi-day trips planned and I will communicate all of those to the playership beforehand so you know when there will be a break.

Party Interaction Agreement

By entering this game you agree that you will be working as part of a team to solve mysteries, kill monsters, etc, as a team. This is a PvE campaign. While I am okay with there being roleplay tension between players, I do not want it to spill over into violence or theft. I don't really think this wil be a problem, but I gotta say it. Don't be a dick.

Player Experience

Welcome and open to all levels of experience. I love teaching newbies and I love giving challenges to old timers.

Marginalized Groups

While this campaign has no particular emphasis on the theming of marginalization, this game is explicitly friendly to LGBT and any other minorities or marginalized groups.

Character Creation

Specific information can be found on the Game Page, but the basics are you'll be starting a level 1, ending around level 5 or 6. Some species and classes are restricted for flavor reasons.

How To Apply

Send me a message telling me why you're interested! Include the phrase "blueberry pancakes" to let me know you actually read this post. Tell me about your expeirence with TTRPGs and what you're hoping to get out of this campaign. I want some motivated players who want to see this thing through to the end.

Posting interest! Interested in this game as an escape to have a fun, linear game, where I don’t have to think about much other than working with a team, advancing the story and having fun. I do some WM style games too, but I like linear games in this format. Like blueberry pancakes for breakfast, everything has its place.

Thanks so much.

Count me in on this adventure. Blueberry pancakes and some juice is fine with me. Gotta love some heavy weather gear. Any Abominable Snowman stories? Good place for 'Dell' the ranger.

Been playing D&D forever and no plans to stop. Faster the pace of the game, the better. Slow games just cause me to lose place. Something long term is great. Nice to build up a character's personality and such.

I'm big on teamwork and not interested in solo. Human race is cool. Not a problem with level 1. I like the simple setting.

Is this by any chance a 5.24 game? More of a blueberry cheesecake kind a guy. ;)

We're running 2014 for now and we're full up. I'll come back to the thread if we have drops!

Thank you everyone for your input and messages!

Interested as well. Not really got a class/race picked out, but I would like to give it a go. I am currently playing in one other 2014 game as a Sorceror and would kind of like to test the waters with another class. Blueberry pancakes.
