Seeing his companion drain his goblet of....? Raphael decides to do the same and imbibes the goblets contents.
May 2, 2025 4:02 pm
Seeing two human-sized cocoons Keeper approach them crying anyone alive in there
OOC:
if he get this far without getting killed :)
May 2, 2025 5:45 pm
Alba quaffs their goblet of wine.
Himo takes a few sips of wine.
There isn't any other goblets of wine left for Raphael to drink, so I'll assume that they take Himo's wine, and drink the remainder.

Nothing happens for a minute, then Alba, Himo, and Raphael fall to the floor, writhe in agony for a moment, and subsequently lie still. On further inspection, it is clear that they are all dead.

For Keeper:

When you approach the cocoons, you see movement in the darkness beyond the portcullis. A giant spider, about the size of a large dog, emerges from the shadows, and watches you hungrily from the other side of the portcullis. You see venom dripping from the creature's dagger-like fangs.

For everyone else:

What do you want to do now?

Holg pockets his gold, then picks up the dagger off his fallen brother. He sheds a half-human tear, and it's a very tender moment.
May 2, 2025 6:14 pm
Raphael would not have taken the goblet from Hiro.
May 2, 2025 6:41 pm
"I get that you want to either save those people or find something useful, Davril, but until we are able to fight we should not go in there. Just as well, there is a portcullis blocking our way."
May 2, 2025 6:44 pm
Davril sighs. "With no weapons and your magic not working, we should not be fighting spiders unless they are small enough to step on. Let us see what we can find about the large doors the other way." Davril and Osstaer go back up the stairs and see the dead people with cups near their hands. "I had wished I was wrong and they had been given a boon. Sadly I cannot say I was wrong. There are dog-sized spiders beyond the portcullis at the bottom of those stairs. Unless you think one person with a knife can defeat them, we should see what these doors lead to." Davril and Osstaer approarch the doors. If nothing happens, Osstaer will put his ear to the door and see if they are thin enough to hear what is beyond.
OOC:
I believe you said you would do the rolling. If a roll is warranted, Perception is +5.
May 3, 2025 11:08 am
For Osstaer:

You listen at the doors. You hear nothing, and after inspecting the door carefully, you see no sign of traps or other dangers. With this considered, I'll assume you want to open the door. Upon opening the door, you see a rectangular room on the other side, that has the look of a wizard's study or workshop. The room is illuminated by another pair of stone braziers, with cyan-coloured flames. One is in the north-west corner of the room, and the other is in the south-east corner.

On the east side of the room, you see a large wooden table, cluttered with alchemist's equipment, such as beakers, flasks, alembics, spirit lamps, a mortar and pestle, and so on.

On the north wall, you see two large wooden shelves, containing a huge array of dried herbs, seeds, salts, spices, resins, unguents, ointments, tonics, tinctures, pills, powders, potions, and other things of that nature. Between the two shelves, there is a wooden door on the north wall.

At the south end of the room, you see a plush divan with an ornate brass hookah in front of it. Behind the divan, there is a wooden door on the south wall.

The silver door you have entered from is on the west side of the room.

For Sardis:

Since you said that Raphael wanted to imbibe the goblet's contents, that's what I've put through. I won't be doing any retcons, but if you'd like to roll up two more prisoners to replace the dead characters, you may do so. If anyone else who has already lost a character would like to roll up a replacement, then they may do so as well.

For everyone:

What do you want to do from here?
May 3, 2025 11:54 am
Holg grabs another handful of gold out of the chest, and then lumbers through the silver door.
May 3, 2025 5:48 pm
Intrigued by the new study looking room Asa looks around looking for anything out of the potions or other items the she recognizes and can use... Really hoping to find a dagger or a dozen , if this is a alchemist/herbalist study, it should have some knives... right?
May 3, 2025 5:50 pm
Jaws looks at the plants trying to remember if there's a combination that could help against big spiders...
OOC:
Don't have the tools but probably can use nature or survival roll?

Yvandra nods at the assertion that the way down to the spiders is not the best. She covers her mouth in horror as some of the group fall lifeless. She messes with the lever a little, not wanting to open the portcullis if it does, but just see if it moves.
May 3, 2025 6:04 pm
Alvin is contemplating the treasure when the others fall lifeless from their drink. He mumbles, "Guess it didn’t matter how you drank it."

He salutes those who have left them early and follows the others to the silver doors room. He will head across the room to east side with the alchemist table, looking to take a lit spirit lamp. He stays as far as he can from the braziers, keeping a wary eye on them, ready to dodge if necessary.

OOC:
@Diogenes I would really appreciate if you could at least sketch a map.
Is this correct?

Keeper try to take flickering stone bowl to better illuminate stairs downward. If it seems magical and he believe it will keep producing light after doing so - Keeper will roll it down the stairs into the web. If that all works Keeper will then turn the lever up.
Quote:
At the top of each stone pillar, there's a stone bowl, in which flickers a crackling cyan-coloured fire, seemingly magical in nature.
May 4, 2025 5:23 pm
For Asa:

You recognise that the shelves are full of alchemical reagents, and that it is likely that several of the bottles and jars on the shelf will likely contain magical potions of some kind. However, you have no way of figuring out what any of the potions do, unless test them somehow. You also find an athame in one of the desk drawers. This will function identically to a normal dagger.

For Jaws:

You're unfamiliar with any anti-spider remedies.

For Yvandra:

You test the lever. You think it will move, if some effort is applied.

For Alvin:

The spirit lamps aren't lit. You find a metal tinderbox and some tall candles in one of the desk drawers. You could light the spirit lamps with this if you wish.

For Greyward:

Excellent map, except the stairs and portcullis is on the south side. In my games, I leave it to the players to map their surroundings, if they wish to do so.

For Keeper:

The flickering stone bowl is fixed to the ground, and cannot be removed. You notice that there is no heat emitted from the cyan-coloured flames, it is a strange kind of magical "cold fire". You also see that there is no burning material or embers in the stone bowl itself, the fire is appearing as if from nothing.

For everyone:

From behind the southern door of this room, you hear a scratchy voice. It says:

"Is someone there? Is that you, Janar? Have you returned?"

What do you want to do from here, players?
May 4, 2025 5:33 pm
Korrin takes everything in, glad he'd stuck to his principles about the drinking. Still, he couldn't help but wonder if what poured out was impacted by actions they took? Stealing the dagger perhaps drew poison. Could some other deed ring something else? Putting it out of mind for now, he moved with the others. Upon hearing the voice,
he froze... another trap?
May 4, 2025 5:34 pm
Sylana moved towards the door upon hearing the voice. "No, I am not Janar. Who are you? How long have you been here?"
OOC:
Does the name "Janar" ring any bells?
May 4, 2025 7:50 pm
With two handfuls of gold coins in his pouch, and the fine silver dagger scabbarded on his belt, our half-orc fellow lumbers towards the southern door.
I’ve returned, he replies to The Voice. Let me in.
May 5, 2025 6:57 am
Krrper join there in east room and ask Alvin about his progress with lamps. I would risk taking a lamp downstairs to put web on fire. He explain his plan to hear any objections.
May 5, 2025 1:39 pm
Davril walks up to Keeper. "Let's not set the webs on fire just yet. We don't know if the people in the cacoons are alive, and the fire may kill tem. Even if they are dead, the fire might destroy something useful on them. Let's set fire after we have the cacoons cut open. I won't stop you but that's my suggestion."
