Part 1: Deliverance

"Ships going to need repairs," Jack says after waving to Thessa, should she be leaving, "Maybe we divide it after fixing what's broke."
Jan 7, 2017 8:07 am
Doc chuckles "Then we're probably going to be working for nothing" he says with a wry expression on his face "I don't have an issue with half of the take going to the ship and then an equal split amongst us for the rest but I'm not doing this for nothing"
Jan 7, 2017 9:43 am
"Not every job gets you a great payout, Doc," Jack says, giving him a stern look, "If the ship doesn't get what she needs and she dies on us out in space, it won't matter what kind of fancy clothes you've bought for yourself."

"If we're shipless, we're jobless, so the ship should come first." Jack shrugs, "That's my vote, anyway."
Jan 7, 2017 12:36 pm
"The ship gets repaired, fuelled, or modded first. After every job. We take even shares of what is left over. If we want bigger payouts,we need to take care of the ship. Sometimes the job that pays slightly less but runs no risk to the vessel will net us the most money."

"Regardless," Savi sighs, "Jack is right. The logic is unassailable. No ship, no job, no creds. Simple."
Jan 7, 2017 2:42 pm
Doc glances up at the ship for a moment "Given that we got away pretty lightly when the pirates tried to take us on there seems to be minimal repairs needed right now - that said I still think half of anything we make needs to be set to one side for the ship regardless of how much we need to spend at that moment for repairs, that way we're at least building up a nice buffer of funds to cover future repairs and any mods that are needed"

Bo walks under the ship and looks around at any damages. She isn't interested in being around the strangers picking up the crates. So mostly it's an excuse to stay out of sight. She will close open panels and fiddle with random nonessential components. She looks through the landing gears and offers another split. "We could give dah ship one eqwual shawe as if it's a cwew member?
Jan 7, 2017 7:18 pm
"Well," Jack says, looking at the ship, "If she doesn't need repairs, then all the better, but we should probably take a walk of the hull to make sure. I don't trust system scans all the time. Plus we'll need to restock fuel aaannd I tend to like to eat sometime during my weeks in hyperspace, so we'll restock food." He listens back and forth between Doc and Savi, and then to Bo before speaking up again, "Sorry, Bo, but keeping a ship fed is about ten times as costly as keeping any one of us fed. One share won't cut it. We'll be pulling from our own savings to buffer the ship's share before long."

He then turns to speak to the group as a whole, gesturing with his arms as he explains, "How 'bout this: We get paid; Ship gets repaired; What's left after that is considered our profit and a percentage - lets say half of the profit - goes to a group fund; We split the rest evenly."

"The group fund is in part for ship upgrades, because we need something besides those peashooters eventually, as well as for food and fuel, but also for job necessities. Maybe I set a precedent today, but I don't want to be in the habit of paying our docking bill every stop, so the group fund would pay for that, but also, what if a job demanded we each have, say, climbing gear? Do we just say, 'Oh, no, we can't do that,' or do we get the gear? If we get gear for each of us, does each of us pay independently? What if one of us..." Jack not-so-coincidentally happens to look in Avox' direction as he says this, "...Blew all of his credits on something stupid already; who foots the bill for him? What if a mission calls for us to have a speeder? Who's buying that? A group fund would make that easy, and would mean that whatever we get independently, while less, is ours, and we can spend it as we like without worrying about getting fed, or saving up enough for something that the next job needs."

Savi considers everything he hears then pipes in, "I'm not a fan of discussing money publicly like this. We should hammer out the details in private. Everyone has made good points. For now, lets restock the ship and get fed."

"The credits aren't going anywhere, lets get our next job lined up then discuss a plan in the relative privacy of hyperspace."
Jan 7, 2017 7:46 pm
Jack twists his mouth a bit as Savi speaks, biting at a bit of dried skin on his lip until he can pipe up, "I think the goal was to get it sorted now so that we could spend the credits here, were we so inclined." He then looks around himself, at the rest of the spaceport, "I don't see the harm in talking about how we handle splitting the credits, though."

"And," Jack says, shrugging and grinning that typical grin of his, "We'll be here an hour or so while Thessa gets it all set up, right?"

While you are discussing, the three workers finish loading the transport and drive off. You are alone in the relative privacy of your berth.
Jan 7, 2017 8:20 pm
"Fair enough..."
Jan 8, 2017 8:12 pm
Avox shakes his head. "I will compromise only as far as a 30 ship, 70 myself split for my share. I am here for credits and nothing else." He looks at everybody with arms still folded, then he growls "The ship is not that damaged, and between me and Bo we can get it back into flyable shape."
Jan 8, 2017 8:48 pm
Savi looks at Avox, not intimidated by the helmeted scowl that usually brooks no argument. "I believe the point being made is that the ship is fine this time, but that in the future it could need repairs brought on by getting you your credits."

"The ship is our ticket to credits, plain and simple. Without its upkeep, this whole venture falls apart and each of us is, again, on his or her own to scrape an existence out of this crappy universe. I believe we'd all survive just fine, but together we have an opportunity to do more. We have a chance at real profits. But we need to work together and that starts with taking care of one another - including, and even especially, the ship."
Jan 8, 2017 9:47 pm
"Well 30% for the ship still means 900 credits from the last job" Doc says, trying to find some common ground "I'm assuming that's more than enough to cover the refuelling and resuply with enough left to one side to start building up a good buffer for the ship....if we stick to that split for the next few jobs and see how things go would that be agreeable with everyone? We can always revisit it later if needed, if we find we're really struggling to keep the ship running."

Jack just stares blankly at Avox, a little bit in disbelief. He opens his mouth to speak, but Savi seems to clarify well enough. Instead, he just shakes his head and chuckles a little to himself. It's no secret that he and the Gank don't get along well, but Jack looks downright angered for all but a moment.

He turns to Doc and corrects, "I believe we're getting thirty-three hundred credits, if you factor the 10% bonus." He looks to Savi for confirmation, but continues, "The point isn't about just refueling and repairing the ship when it needs it. We do need that, but another point of a ship's fund is so that as we buy things for ourselves, we can also buy things for the ship. Who cares if you buy yourself that new, fancy doctor's bag, or if Avox buys himself the biggest assault rifle he can find. If the ship goes down, we all go down. We need to keep it up to par with the jobs that we take on."

"I don't think thirty percent is going to cut it for doing that. Ship parts are not cheap, by any means. I can get myself a blaster pistol for four-hundred credits. Even a heavy blaster is seven-hundred, by standard rates. I can get some good attachments for it for about five-hundred, and get a tech to mod it like mad for one-hundred to three-hundred. A medium laser cannon costs about seven grand, and modding it is about another thirty-five-hundred, and we'd like to have more than one." Jack clicks his tongue in irritation, shifting his weight from one foot to the other and looking up at the ship to which they were referring. "Not to mention you plan on taking fuel, food and other expenses out of this thirty percent?"

He shakes his head, "Just doesn't sound realistic to me." He shrugs, "But, again, I'm not the whole group, and I can only offer my opinion."
Jan 8, 2017 10:51 pm
Doc shrugs at Jacks argument "Well that's why I said 50 to start with for the ship, that didn't seem to fly though"
Jan 8, 2017 11:04 pm
He gives Doc a wry smile, "Fifty is and was fine by me."
Jan 8, 2017 11:35 pm
"Its a nice round number. Avox?"

As Savi confirmed with Avox, Jack draws a bit of a contemplative look on his face...
OOC:
Now that we know what we know about the crate (its disguise, and shielding), that the cargo is going to homesteaders, we see what kind of place this town is like, and we've seen some of Thessa's friends and how they mind themselves and dress, I'd like to make a Knowledge (Underworld) roll to see if I can piece together what might've been in the crates, or perhaps any other details about Thessa and her buddies that Jack could muster up.

Avox is silent for a while, still shaking his head. Eventually though, he sighs "Fine, but we better start doing bigger jobs soon. I joined this crew to make a fortune, that better start happening."
