I drink once more from my flask, then stab at the creature, "You must hit it if you are to defeat it."

Rawlyn is simply being out maneuvered at this point, his blade never really finding the enemy. Alara catches the knight in the side, not quite where she was aiming but still an effective strike. The knight continues it's relentless assault with chain and blade, which fails to connect.

Breathing hard from his effort, and even more from his frustration. Rawlyn decides to calm himself rather than continue his relentless insult-spree. "I have to hit this time, just like you've practiced a thousand times over." He mutters to himself, breathing in and out evenly.

He makes his thrust.

I take another drink from my flask before stabbing at the warrior. As the blade strikes I let loose another burst of psionic energy.

OOC:
Im going to reorder your attacks; just for dramatic purposes...
Alara lands a solid blow on the knight, staggering it for a moment and giving Rawlyn the opportunity he need to impale the knight who promptly turns to ash. Rawlyn absorb the soul of the Mahjim the Gate-Warden, on the ground where the figure stood is it's chain.
OOC:
Mahjim's chain is a whip except it does 1d8 for damage.
The court yard has two additional exits; a ladder around the side of the gatehouse that leads onto the main walls, and a wide set of doors the lead through a smaller inner wall. Alara starts to become more insubstantial, she clearly won't be here for much longer.

Rawlyn is relieved at finally having bested the opponent, and his humiliation being at an end. "Well the lance did me little good, but perhaps this will fair better." He says, picking up the chain. Rawlyn looks to his companion as she starts to fade. "You must go already?" Disappointment is clear in his voice. He bows to her as she fades. "Thank you for everything Alara, you have saved my life. I pray we meet again soon."

"We will meet again, I am sure." Alara points towards the doors, "There is a bonfire through there."
Feb 27, 2017 2:24 am
Rawlyn nods, and heads in that direction. Waving his friend goodbye when she fades away. As he approaches the bonfire he takes a look at his surroundings.
Feb 27, 2017 12:04 pm
You throw the doors open and see another walled of section. This courtyard is a well kept rock garden, it's central feature, just as Alara had promised: A bonfire.

You are not alone in the rock garden, a women in a fine dress rakes the sands. From what you see of her arms she doesn't appear to be undead, but you cannot see her face, as it is obscured by a wide brim hat with a veil hanging from it. She speaks to you as you enter. Bearer of the curse, please take refuge in my garden. You must be a powerful warrior to get past the gatekeeper, what brings such a mighty soul to the Firekeep?

Other then the door you came through there are three ways out of the garden, to the left and right wide staircases that lead to raised ground on either side, suggesting that the city behind the wall is raised, and the garden sits sunken to the ground level outside. Ahead a door that leads into the keep proper.

Rawlyn bows to the woman in a dramatic fashion, through his heavy breaths from the fight. "My name is Rawlyn, and thank you. I shall take you up on that." He sits near the bonfire and reflects on it. Its incandescence warming his body and soul.

Finally, reluctantly, he stands. He looks at the three directions for a moment then turns to the gardener. "If I may, who might you be?"
OOC:
What are the EXP counts on Legrion Tortoise Knight Soul, Mahjim the Gate-Warden soul, and Legrion Lancer Soul
Mar 1, 2017 3:37 am
OOC:
Items examination results.

Legrion Tortoise Knight. The king of the Firekeep clad his strongest warriors in heavy plate and equiped them with weapons no normal man could carry. Their lack of manuverability was the inevitable end to these iron juggernauts. Offer at a bonfire to gain 1400xp or use for trading.

Legrion Lancer Soul. The front line troops that once defended the Firekeep from all it's foes. Nimble and equipped with a powerful spear they serve the King of Fire even in death. Offer at a bonfire to gain 200xp or use for trading.

Soul of Mahjim the Gate Warden. This warrior came to Legrion on a long pilgrimage from a far off land, and swore fealty to the Fire King. He stands watch over the gates of Fire Keep and deny entry to all who would violate the sanctity of the Throne of Fire. Offer at a bonfire to gain 2200xp, use for trading or to create a powerful item.
The woman replies I am Malora, and I red to this garden and this bonfire. You still haven't answered my question, what brings such a mighty soul to the Firekeep?

Rawlyn stalls at this, but then brushes it away. "Perhaps seek riches and glory! Or perhaps it is to meet all the lovely maidens of this land." He says with a dramatic bow and a wink at her.
Mar 3, 2017 9:22 am
It is hard to gauge her response to that remark as you cannot see her face, but she speaks completely ignoring the second part of your comment. If it is glory you seek cursebearer, then you have chosen your path well. For there is no greater glory in this land then to claim the Firekeep for yourselves. Those dead beyond the gate died to either claim or defend it, and you have come further then them. But even then I doubt you can claim the keep, many cannot even open the door, and those who enter have never returned.
Mar 3, 2017 8:04 pm
Rawlyn frowns at the severity of her words. "Why is it that I risk myself so?" he ponders. After a moment he shakes the thought from his mind. "Well m'lady, I must be off. Should I claim this Firekeep, then I will be sure to return and be the very first to do so." He approaches the next door floating on the courage he mustered for his claim. Before he continues, he puts his mark upon the floor using the white stone.
Mar 5, 2017 6:14 am
The imposing door to the Firekeep is emblazoned with four insignia; the sign of the shining sun, the head of the prowling wolf, a crescent moon and a great stone. The door seems fixed solid in it's place and seems to posses powerful magics.
Mar 6, 2017 4:04 am
Rawlyn inspects the door and shakes his head. "I suppose I'll need some sort of key. These symbols could be clues..." He scratches his chin and faces the woman. "How do I get the door open?"
Mar 6, 2017 6:12 am
bearer of the curse you are not powerful enough, seek to improve yourself by claiming souls of greater strength. A powerful saints corpse lies somewhere under this city, perhaps facing him will be a good place to start.
Mar 6, 2017 6:50 am
Rawlyn nods. "I suppose that is a place to start." He stretches, "I shall return." He says, as heroically as he can. He turns and leaves. He heads to...
OOC:
Is there an obvious path that leads to this city undercroft?
Mar 6, 2017 6:55 am
OOC:
Nope, one ladder up in the room you caught the knight and two flight of stairs leading up.
Mar 6, 2017 7:35 am
Rawlyn looks at the stairs heading up. "Not the path I would guess heads underground, but I may as well give it a look." He heads up one of the flights of stairs to see what is there.
