Game Thread: Harmia

Nov 13, 2016 2:22 am
From the cursed soil you arise, mist is strewn about you. You cannot remember; who you are, how did you fall, all this is lost to you. But in the distance there is a soft orange glow. Hope?

You approach the light, almost mindlessly driven to hold your hand over the coiled blade. The bonfire lights, for a fleeting moment warmth fills your cold heart, restoring your vigour and your strength. You feel rested, as though you had stayed for ten or so minuets in this moment, though it lasted only a moment. Filled with determination you look once more around you. You stand in a deep vale; filled with mist and graves. Across the clearing from you is a corpse its decayed hands clasp a dull great flask a bright white stone untouched by age. You recognise these items, powerful items indeed...

The sides of the vale are steep but there is an old path winding through the mist..
Nov 13, 2016 2:40 am
Harmia pulls her gaze away from the orange glow, stepping away from the warmth of the bonfire. It is all too familiar, and yet she could not remember from where. She walks toward the corpse and collects the flask and stone, quickly glancing over it to ensure she did not miss any other useful items. Afterward, she will stand straight, draw both shortswords into her hands, and step toward the winding path.

You notice that the corpse was definitely undead once, though why it isn't hollow you are unsure.
As you start along the path you realise that you aren't alone. Around you in the mists several hollowed undead lurk. They seem to pay you no heed at first, but as you continue its clear that they are following behind you. Soon you will be completely surrounded.
Nov 13, 2016 2:55 am
Harmia will looks for the nearest wall, making a quick movement toward it so that she can't be flanked from behind. She scrapes her blades back and forth across one another as she turns to face them.

There are no structures in the valley just some low walls. The hollows are approaching from infront and behind you, if you move far enough to the sides you might be able to ensure your facing them from one direction, but you risk attracting some more hollows.

The trip isn't too long so that won't come into play, but I'll try to remember that. Also you can determine the value with any of the item item rolls.
The path becomes stairs as you leave the valley. Clouds part and for a brief moment the sun shines upon you. At the in trance to the valley is a stone circle. Some of the stones still stand but most have been slowed to fall. There is a knight sitting on one of these toppled stones he notices your arrival but quickly returns his attention to a small black object in his hands.

From here you can see much of the surrounding country side. a huge stone fortress dominates the otherwise barren landscape.
Nov 15, 2016 8:18 am
Harmia steps up to the stones, taking a seat to rest her legs. She addresses the knight, but looks at her swords and tends to them as needed, "What's that you've got?" After handling her swords, she'll inspect the items she'd acquired earlier...

Nov 16, 2016 3:32 am
Harmia will get up and step toward the man, sheathing her blades as she does. She'll reach out and snatch the sprite from his hands, as though expecting him to take it back at the last second.

"Say," she starts, failing to thank him, "Any idea what these are?" She'll show him the vial and white stone.
Nov 16, 2016 4:34 am
You don't know? That he points to the flask is an Estus flask, it'll heal you when you consume it, but you'll only have a limited number of uses between bonfires. That he points at the stone I think is a white soapstone, something to do with drawing yourself into other worlds.
Nov 16, 2016 4:37 am
"Wouldn't ask otherwise," she replies.

"Hmm.." She ponders the items after being educated, pocketing them once more, "And you? What exactly are you doing here?"

Nov 16, 2016 5:10 am
"Seems forgetfulness is a common trait here..." she mutters, looking out toward the castle in the distance.

She turns back to the knight, "You mean those I just cut down? If you're looking to join them, I can offer to deliver you that same fate early." She taps the hilt of the shortsword at her hip.
Nov 16, 2016 5:14 am
If you kill me I'll just be back. Most things don't stay dead for too long here.
Nov 16, 2016 5:19 am
"Hmm.." She ponders, "Shame. When you do go Hollow, I'll be sure to come back for a few of your things." Harmia turns and steps away toward the edge of the ring of stones, having no pity for a man who's given up. "That castle. Know anything about it?"
Nov 16, 2016 5:27 am
It's called the Firekeep, they say a god once burnt themself beneath it. Now it's just filled with the undead.
Nov 16, 2016 5:37 am
"Have you been there?" He asks idly as she pulls the white soapstone from her pocket and begins to toy with it. "Anything interesting between here and there?"
Nov 16, 2016 5:43 am
Well there's this old battlefield filled with hollows, I didn't get through it to see whats in the castle.
Nov 16, 2016 5:49 am
"I see," she says, stepping out a few more feet. "Well, then, good luck," she says softly, drawing her blades and walking out toward the fortress.
Nov 17, 2016 12:03 am
You start down the path to Firekeep. As you exit the stone circle you note there were two other paths, both of which hooks backwards on heading upwards and the other downwards. A short walk before you there is, as the knight had predicted, signs of a battlefield. The path becomes nonexistent in the fields of crumbled walls, scattered paths and broken engines of war. You can see many hollows, all dressed in decayed and battered uniforms. Notable among them is the three which hold their post on a broken section of wall, they will likely Harry you as you approach.
Nov 17, 2016 12:41 am
Harmia will instead choose to take the path that hooks backwards and downward.
Nov 17, 2016 3:09 am
The path hooks around sharply, as you follow it you see the wilderness end on the shores of some ocean. The path quickly narrows between the cliff and a drop. Ahead you can see a small village perched precariously on the coast.

Tired, bruised and worn, Harmia heads toward the bonfire and attempts to light it. If successful, she will rest and aim to learn more about the items she has acquired...
Nov 27, 2016 10:23 am
Holding out your hand, the bonfire springs to light. For a fleeting moment warmth fills your cold heart, restoring your vigour and your strength.

White Soapstone: In Legrion, the flow of time is distorted, and the White Sign Soapstone allows Undead to assist one another. Leave a summoning sign through which other undead can summon you into their world.

Estus Flask: The undead treasure these dull green flasks, which promise survival in a land dominated by death. Estus flasks provide swift healing, and are replenished at bonfires. You have a number of estus flasks equal to half your level, rounded up. You can drink an estus flask as a bonus action, which restores hit points equal to 1d6 + your Constitution modifier. All empty estus flasks restore when you rest at a bonfire.

Fading Soul: The fading soul of a lost Undead who has gone Hollow and still. Use to gain 100xp or for trading. The soul is the source of all life, and even in undeath, or hollowing, the mind seeks souls.

Troll Soul: The trolls are ancient beings, who often guarded villages which could not protect themselves in exchange for food. Use to gain 400xp or trading.

Humanity: This black sprite is called humanity, but little is known about its true nature. If the soul is the source of all life, then what distinguishes the humanity we hold within ourselves? Offer to a bonfire to restore humanity.

Intrigued, Harmia will scrawl a sign on the ground with the White Soapstone. She'll stand after resting a moment, watching it for any sign of activity. Should nothing immediately occur, she will start to go through the homes, looking for anything of interest. She will attempt to do so as stealthily as possible.

Many of the doors are locked, the first one that does open has is slightly stuck, but you manage to shift it quietly. The house is filled with carved stone idles about 3 feet tall. The sound of scrapping can be heard from within.
Nov 30, 2016 7:17 pm
Harmia takes a couple steps back from the door, rapping the blades of her shortswords together to make a ringing sound, hoping to draw out whatever is within.
Dec 1, 2016 4:18 am
The scrapping sound within stops and a old crackly voice calls out. Is there some one out there, hello?
Dec 1, 2016 4:20 am
Harmia is taken aback somewhat, but replies, "Yes, and lucky for you I'm not hollow. I killed the beast that lurked here, so come out."
Dec 1, 2016 4:23 am
The scrapping sound continues Oh, err, I'm not hiding, hehe. This is my workshop and I'm working. The troll doesn't really come into the village, he just mopes around the gate. This ones almost finished, come and take a look.
Dec 1, 2016 4:24 am
Harmia mutters under her breath, "What is with the giggling..."

She then enters the building, approaching slow but steadily, weapons at the ready.
Dec 1, 2016 4:43 am
A haggard old lady stoops over a 3 foot statue which she is finishing carving. Well, it's funny that you think I'd be hiding in here from a troll. Please I mean you no harm put that away.
Dec 1, 2016 5:03 am
Harmia sheathes the blades, quirking a brow at the statue, "Who are you? And that is that?"
Dec 1, 2016 5:08 am
I am Hagria, and these are idols. I think their saints but I can't quite remember, I have so many stoned that I collected I figured I should use them.
Dec 1, 2016 7:00 am
Harmia can't see the purpose in something so impractical and meant only for its artistic value. She places her hands on her hips and watches for a moment, "So, Hagria, anything of interest in this town? Most of the homes here are locked."
Dec 1, 2016 7:05 am
Well there use to be lots of fishers here but their gone now, just me left. Not a lot in the houses, I'm surprised the doors are still closed.
Dec 1, 2016 7:47 am
"Anything interesting here to take a look at? Anything need doing?" She asks.
Dec 1, 2016 11:26 am
Well if you want to help me carve stones... I don't think that's your taste. There is the pit out the back of the village. It's pretty horrible down, the villagers cast there waste down there but it's something to look at, or you can follow along the coastal road, it leads to a cave... That's not very nice either but because of the ghosts. I have lots of stones though, some magical stones.
Dec 1, 2016 5:10 pm
Harmia raises a brow, "Magic stones, huh?" She doesn't want to give the old lady the satisfaction of her being interested, just in case she's playing games, and so her response sounds dull and bored, but she is genuinely curious.

"I suppose I could look at this cave," she ponders aloud, glancing back toward the door. "Any idea what's in it? Would magic stones help?" She grins at her own humor, however lackluster it may be.
Dec 2, 2016 3:38 am
Well I know smiths used to use magic stones to improve weapons and armour, but I am no smith, I just like stones. Maybe the stones would be helpful in the cave but not without a smith first. There is a old ruin in the cave, it leads deep into the earth. But there are ghosts so I try not to go their.
Dec 2, 2016 4:33 am
Harmia frowns. She doesn't have any desire to battle with ghosts. "Do you know where I could find a smith such as that?" She asks.
Dec 2, 2016 8:11 am
Harmia ponders this a moment, narrowing her eyes at the old lady rather suspiciously. "Well, then, I'll be going. Careful not to get eaten up while I'm gone."
Dec 2, 2016 9:20 am
Im sure I won't. If you ever need magic stones I'll be here. Hehe
Dec 2, 2016 5:18 pm
"Well, before I go... how much would the stones cost me?" It was a question she couldn't believe she was asking, but she felt hopeful.

Dec 4, 2016 6:14 am
"I could pick a rock and call it a piece of a dragon, too," Harmia says bluntly, turning around and heading toward the door, "Good luck with someone else." She'll depart from the building, drawing her blades and heading back toward the ring of stones that she had come from.

Should she make it there, she'll choose to take the path that hooked backwards and upwards.
Dec 4, 2016 7:38 am
As you arrive at the circle the knight greets you The village not to your liking, or did the guard knock you back. Their pit is impressive isn't it?
Dec 4, 2016 5:35 pm
Grunting, Harmia shrugs and says, "More the former. What pit?" She looks toward the knight, stretching her arm across her chest as she waits for a reply.
Dec 4, 2016 9:18 pm
If you go past the first few houses in the village there is a sink hole about 20 feet wide and incredibly deep. The village used it as wast disposal bit when I looked down it there was definite signs of old ruins down there.
Dec 4, 2016 9:33 pm
"I'll take a look later, I suppose. Some old lady was there, too. The 'guard' as you said didn't bother her, which is more than a little off-putting." Harmia looks about, tonguing a cut on her lip from when the beast had bludgeoned her. "For now, I'll give this a try," she speaks idly, once more taking out the white soapstone and scrawling it on the ground.
Dec 4, 2016 11:11 pm
You draw a symbol on the ground but nothing seems to happen straight away.
Dec 4, 2016 11:12 pm
Watching the symbol for a while, Harmia will eventually shrug and leave without a word. She'll take that path that loops back and upward, weapons drawn and ready.
Dec 5, 2016 11:21 am
As you climb you enter a region of scarce woods, you approach a gated wall, with two hollows equipped with bows above it. The gates are slightly ajar, so you'll be able to pass through it. You don't see another way in, but there is a glowing rune scribbled on the gate similar to the one you just drew.

"There we go," Harmia says, grinning. She slings her bow back over her shoulder and then turns around to search for the arrows stuck in the ground around her. She'll set about collecting them, attempting to gather any that are still in good shape. Once done, she'll enter through the gate and look for this ladder that Tosti must've used.

As she climbs it, she speaks, "So, again, who are you?" Once at the top, if able, she'll go through whatever arrows of her own and the arrows of the hollow that she can use.
Dec 10, 2016 10:08 am
As the ash blows away in the wind, Tosti leans over the side to shout at Harmia.

"There's no more up here, that's the last of them!"

He rests his elbow on on stone wall while Harmia climbs the ladder and searches for loot.

"I am Tosti of Hvall. You sure surprised me, I wasn't expecting the air to be full of arrows when I got summoned!"

He pauses to push the hair out of his face after a gust of wind made a mess of it.

"Ah, if you are looking for supplies you should search that corpse near that section of collapsed wall."
Dec 10, 2016 10:30 am
"Tosti," she repeats as she looks around for arrows, "Pleasure to meet you. I'm Harmia of... well, of this Wall now, seeing as it's just been taken." She stands tall after her looting, narrowing her eyes at Tosti and glancing down to the section of collapsed wall that had been pointed how. She looks back at him, crossing her arms, "And just how do you know that? You just got here."
Dec 10, 2016 12:45 pm

"You summoned to your world, but my world is different. It's as if you let me don your armor. My armor would still exist, but it's separate."

Tosti rubs his beard in contemplation.

"It's hard to put into words, you'll understand once you are called to another world. The voice of Tyr booms in your mind, and you are just pulled away."
Dec 11, 2016 1:59 am
Harmia cocks her head to the side, obviously not fully understanding Tosti's meaning. "I'll take your word for it," she replies, heading toward the corpse that her new companion had just indicated and looting it. "So you've already done this?" she asks.
Dec 11, 2016 7:23 am
On the corpse is a strange yellow stone, that glows faintly with a light somewhat reminiscent of your estus flask.

From your vantage point on the wall, you can see some of the features within the forest, there appears to be a toppled stone tower quite close to the entrance, deeper in there is a squat stone building, and in a clearing at the top of the mound is a cave entrance.
Dec 11, 2016 7:46 am
"I've been here before, with my horse! If you are trying to traverse this forest, I can assist you. The inhabitants of this land are cursed, so I'll gladly help out a fellow pilgrim."

"Interesting," she says, unconvincingly. Picking up the yellow stone, she inspects it momentarily before pocketing it, "Well, help is certainly appreciated." She'll step back toward Tosti and say, "So, where were you, in your world?"

She pauses, as though something just dawned on her, "And.. where is your horse now?"

Dec 11, 2016 10:21 am
"I'm still in the forest getting ambushed and killed. Not that death means much to us anymore. Gahaha!"

He pauses at Harmia's question, then smiles broadly.

"My horse is a forest spirit! I have to preform a ritual to call her out... Though I still need to name her, do you have any ideas?"
Dec 11, 2016 10:35 am
"Well," Harmia says, giving it a solid thought, "What does she look like?" She'll begin to walk toward the forest entrance, in the direction of the tower.
Dec 11, 2016 10:39 am
Tosti hurriedly tries to catch up.

"A big warhorse! Useful in combat, and she's actually got a good sense of humor for a horse. Ah, there are two bandits hiding up ahead, you should tread lightly."
Dec 11, 2016 11:03 am
"Morro," Harmia suggests, with no explanation. As Tosti gives warning, Harmia pauses and grins. Turning to him, she asks, "Oh, yeah?"

She sheathes her blades momentarily, cupping her hands to her mouth and shouting, "To the two bandits hiding, come out and meet your ends!" She'll then draw her blades, prepared to meet the oncoming foes.

"I can't change this cursed land, but I'd consider it a victory if I help just one person. Besides, getting killed alone in the woods by some hollows is not the way one should die."

Tosti's mood seems to be contagious, as his laugh even causes Harmia to crack a smile. "Well, I won't turn down the company," she says, "Not that I couldn't handle this on my own."

"So everything in your world is the same as it is here, huh?" She continues her questioning, having filled her quiver. "Any idea what's in that tower?"
Dec 16, 2016 9:04 am
"I haven't the slightest idea, as I'm not a scholar. My brothers must've hit me on the head a bit too much when we were children. As for the tower, there's a bonfire. I'm not sure if there's anything else, are you looking for something in particular?"
Dec 17, 2016 1:04 am
Harmia looks at Tosti, and he could likely see that she's considering her answer carefully, but in the end she simply replies, "No. Not so much." With that, she begins through the forest in the direction of the tower, her bow put away and her shortswords drawn in its place. "You seem smart enough to me, Tosti. What you did to those hollow was something I sure don't know how to do."

"The light of Tyr, it is. You could channel his light as well, if you wanted to spend a year or so training. Hah!"

He suddenly stops and holds his hand upright.

"There's three hollows up ahead, two archers and a swordsman. As your summon, I will try to take all the hits."

"As handy as that might be, I think I should pass," Despite the sarcasm, she is grinning this time. She pauses when Tosti alerts her, squinting her eyes to see a bit further. She listens to Tosti's strategy and nods her head, "I wholeheartedly support that idea."

Shortswords at the ready, Harmia prepares to advance behind Tosti.

Tosti pops the sword off his shoulder and charges towards where he knows the first bandit will be. He channels divine energy once again, put attempts to use it at a lower level so it will last longer.

Your blow kills a second hollow, it seems that killing hollows with the holy power of Tyr shatters their will to continue the fight.
Dec 20, 2016 6:13 am
Harmia unleashes a triplet of quick strikes upon her target, more concerned about not being outdone too badly by Tosti than anything else.
OOC:
If the first two strikes kill it, I'll move to the next Hollow and continue my attack on it (the 1d6s from Hunter's Mark won't apply on those, though)

Harmia wipes the sweat from her brow, sheathing her blades and looking over at Tosti, "What I do in three strikes, you do in one. I must say, I'm jealous."

She'll look around, trying to gather sight of what's in the immediate surroundings. She'll also search about for any quivers of arrows.

"I had to die a few times before realizing they were weak to the light. I'm no good at long range though, can't tell you how many arrows I've pulled out of myself. This should be the last group until the bonfire, the only thing blocking your path is that murderous plant..."

"Likewise, I'm best up close, myself," Harmia replies. At the mention of a murderous plant, she pauses and turns to Tosti, "Perhaps we should discuss this plant before pressing on..." She stares at him, as though expecting further explanation.
Dec 23, 2016 6:35 am
"The pathway to the old tower is blocked by a murderous plant, for lack of a better word. It's a mess of vines and branches, and it attacks anything that comes near. It could probably kill me in less than a minute. Put simply, it is too powerful for us to kill."

With a knowing look, Tosti raises a finger and grins.

"However, it won't give chase. So all we need do is have me provoke it, and then you can slip past unnoticed. By the time it's finished with me, you'll be warming your feet at the bonfire."
Dec 24, 2016 8:52 pm
Harmia narrows her eyes, contemplating Tosti's words. "If all I wished for was to slip by, we could manage that without costing you your life," The ranger says, crossing her arms. "Are you certain that there's no way for us to kill it?" She asks.
Dec 25, 2016 11:58 pm
"We could attempt to slay the monster, but if things aren't going well you should make a break for the bonfire. I also get the feeling that I will return to my world once you light the bonfire."
Dec 26, 2016 7:41 am
"Well, I certainly hope not. I kind of like having someone around, especially when they know what's coming next," Harmia smirks, and then adds, "Lets go kill this plant." She'll then advance, with Tosti's approval, her bow drawn and an arrow knocked.
Dec 27, 2016 2:40 am
OOC:
You can initiate the conflict as you know where the plant is. It will be reactionary.
Dec 27, 2016 3:11 am
Harmia will concentrate for a moment, eyes closed, and place a hand upon Tosti's shoulder. Nothing seems obviously different, but when she opens her eyes she says, "There. Stay near me and we should be able to sneak up on it now." Once Tosti points out where it is, she'll sneak up and hope to ambush it alongside her comrade.
OOC:

"Ah, it's right in the middle of the path so we don't need to... Where did you go?"

Tosti looks around, completely oblivious to where Harmia snuck off to. Regardless, he points out the inconspicuous looking mass of foliage that covers the path.

"There it is, it won't attack us unless we get within five feet."

He marks a line in the ground with his boot.

"Last time it seemed to calm down after I retreated to this point, not sure if it'll do that again though."

Not wasting time, Tosti braces himself and gives the bush two solid slashes. His arms and sword glow with divine energy, but quickly burn out after he finishes his attacks.

Tosti takes some damage from the constricting vines. But Harmia's strike takes down the vine monster. As it falls it turns to mist and you absorb a Soul of the Ashen Forest. Such is the power of this soul that you also immediately absorb 1400xp. Even as you celebrate your victory Tosti's image glows bright yellow and fades away.

Harmia puts a fist to her chest as she looks at Tosti fading. Truly, she would have been lost without his presence and aid. She hoped that this was an intended effect of the white soapstone, and not indicative of him dying here or elsewhere. After a moment, she turns and steps several paces away from where the plant beast was, and scrawls down her sign with the white soapstone. Perhaps she could help Tosti with it in another world.

Afterwards she will continue on, traveling beyond the creature with her swords at the ready.
Jan 5, 2017 4:05 am
You shortly come across the broken tower you saw from the wall. You can see in the ground floor there is a bonfire. This tower bears the broken remains of religious iconography. It seems that the tower was once a temple for pilgrims. It is unclear why the tower has fallen, or what the pilgrims worshiped. The rooms that once stood higher than the 1st floor lays toppled on the ground behind it.
Jan 5, 2017 6:07 am
Harmia will rest at the bonfire after lighting it. She will use this time to attempt to identify the value of the bandit souls and the soul from the plant creature.
Jan 5, 2017 6:13 am
Bandit Soul: the soul of a bandit of the Ashen Forrest. The desperate settled in these woods to steal from those whose pilgrimage lead the to me the Ashen Tomb. Offer at a bonfire for 150xp or use for trading.

Soul of the Ashen Forest: The Ashen Forest had once rested in peaceful recline, but it has since been stirred to anguish by it's mistreatment. Offer at a bonfire for 4000xp, use for trading or use to create a powerful item.
Jan 5, 2017 6:47 am

Just in case it will change your actions, I should mention that as the Soul of the Ashen Forest is a boss soul you will never drop it on death.

It'll be hard to get at the corpse with the stones on top of it. In the next toppled floor you can see a chest. On the next floor you can see a feeble estus gem in a pile of ruble; it wont be hard to pick it out.

Jan 10, 2017 11:27 pm
Javelin of Solar Knight: When you utter a prayer to the sun this Javelin becomes a bolt of lightning, forming a line 5 feet wide that extends out from you to a target within 120 feet. Each creature in the line excluding you and the target must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw, taking 4d6 lightning damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The lightning bolt turns back into a javelin when it reaches the target. Make a ranged weapon attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes damage from the javelin plus 4d6 lightning damage. The javelin’s property can’t be used again until the next dawn. In the meantime, the javelin can still be used as a magic weapon.

In the days long gone knights served the lord of light himself, and with these sacred bolts vanquished those who came before and secured for us the lands to live in.
Jan 10, 2017 11:51 pm
OOC:
Neat! It's a STR throw, I assume, right?
Jan 11, 2017 12:03 am
OOC:
Yep, javelins use str.
Jan 11, 2017 4:02 am
OOC:
Weeeeeell... that's a darn shame.
Harmia frowns in concentration before putting the Javelin through a loop on her backpack. Afterwards, she'll inspect the Estus Gem.
Jan 12, 2017 12:51 am
Feeble estus gem. Shatter to restore 2d6 health.
Small stone made up of crystallized souls. Restores a small amount of hp. Often found near abandoned corpses, as if it were what remains of the soul.
Jan 12, 2017 7:12 am
Harmia will head back to the ruined parts of the tower, struggling with some of the rocks to attempt to move them off of the trapped corpse.

Rolls

Athletics - (1d20+2)

Jan 13, 2017 4:30 am
It takes some time and mangles the corpse but you eventually remove the debris. On the corpse you find a rusted pendant of of some worship value. It is emblazoned with two crossed lighting bolts behind a rearing lion.
Jan 13, 2017 4:40 am
After doing a thorough search of the corpse, Harmia returns this to the bonfire as well to see if she can figure out any significance.

Rolls

Investigation of the corpse - (1d20)

(9) = 9

Jan 13, 2017 4:48 am
The corpse is thoroughly mangled, only some shreds of cloth remain to suggest it once wore cloth and not armour.

Dragonslayer Amulet. In times of old the knights of the lord of light fought the dragons. One saint served the lord of light with loyalty and skill and rose to great power. This amulet belongs to a worshiper of that knight. Confers no benefit.

You have yet to explore the floor above you in the tower.
Jan 13, 2017 5:00 am
Harmia will pocket the amulet, drawing her swords and ascending the tower to search the above floor.
Jan 13, 2017 5:04 am
You cautiously ascend the stairs, there is no threat upstairs but there is a man dressed in priests robes he cries out uncertainly Hello? is there anyone there? You notice that he has a cane in his lap, the man is probably blind.
Jan 13, 2017 8:11 pm
Harmia sheathes her swords as she approaches the man. "Aye," she says, "I am here. I'm Harmia; who are you?" She'll glance around the room for anything else of interest.
Jan 15, 2017 2:37 am
I am Zellier of the Ashen and this was my way-point. I used to care for this stop on the pilgrims way. Is that what your here for?
Jan 15, 2017 8:59 am
Harmia ponders Zellier for a moment, her brow quirked curiously, "No. I don't think so."

"Say," she starts, approaching the man and taking the amulet that she'd just acquired into her hand, "I found this pendant. Has a lion and a couple bolts of lightning. Does this mean anything to you?"
Jan 17, 2017 5:30 am
It sounds like you are describing a Dragonslayer amulet. It is given to pilgrims at the shrine of the dragonslayer, when they bring it here I give it the blessing of Ash. Would you like to receive the blessing of Ash? It has been some time since I bestowed it...
Jan 17, 2017 6:20 am
Harmia steps forward and holds the amulet out to him, "Alright. Sounds promising."
Jan 17, 2017 7:08 am
The priest offers some incatations and as he does so some ash coalesces out of the air and falls upon the amulet. As he completes the prayer the amulet shudders and glows, knocking the ash from it. It is finished.
Jan 17, 2017 7:15 am
"And just what did that do? Harmia asks, entirely out of her element as she peers curiously at the amulet.
Jan 18, 2017 11:55 pm
Well the blessing of ash sustains the pilgrim through the hardship of the road. It will preserve your humanity if you fall, but only once. If you want further blessings I guess I can return it to the amulet for a donation.
Jan 19, 2017 12:14 am
Figures, Harmia thought. "How much of a donation?"
Jan 19, 2017 12:19 am
A donation is a donation. I will not put a price on a blessing like a common peddler. Just what ever you wish to give.
Jan 19, 2017 7:31 pm
"Well, I don't have anything to donate at the moment. Maybe another time." She says, disappointed she doesn't have some weak, little soul to offer.
Jan 25, 2017 12:07 am
That is fine, after all the token is already blessed, it is meaningless to bless it again. Tell me if you are not here as a pilgrim what brings you to the ashen woods?
Jan 25, 2017 1:26 am
Harmia parts her lips to speak, but then closes them and looks somewhat frustrated. She couldn't explain it in words. There was a pull and a sense of purpose, and that was all. Saying something so vague would've made her feel stupid, and she didn't particularly like feeling stupid.

"Just having a look about," she says, looking back at the stairs. "Know anything about the Castle near here?"
Jan 25, 2017 1:38 am
The Firekeep is ancient, deep within it marks the path to the shining city, the burning abyss and most sacred to members of my order, the Sacred Flame, where gods and saints of old made the most noble sacrifice to maintain the light. The Lord of Legrion was the guardian of keep, but when he disappeared one day it plunged the kingdom into anarchy, and incited invasion by their neighbors.
Jan 27, 2017 7:14 am
Harmia nods, pondering over the information that the man provided. "Thank you. Be well," she says eventually, heading back down the stairs. She'll exit the tower and proceed along her previous route, fully rested and with weapons in hand.
Jan 28, 2017 12:30 am
OOC:
Where were you heading again? Deeper into the forrest or up to the tomb?
Jan 28, 2017 5:45 am
OOC:
Oh, I wasn't sure. Hmm! Tomb sounds like tons of fun, and a quick death. Lets go there!
Feb 3, 2017 5:10 am
The path is clear of apparent enemies all the way up to the entrance of the tomb. How do you proceed
Feb 3, 2017 9:41 am
Harmia chants a quick prayer, hardly realizing she's even doing it, as she approaches the tomb. Her eyes turn cat-like, reflecting even the most minuscule amount of light. Both blades drawn, she enters into the tomb.
OOC:
Casting Darkvision on myself.
Feb 4, 2017 6:32 am
The opening to the temple is not dark as it is open to the outside. What would be the foyer to the temple is all but bare, perhaps it was looted long ago. Their is a single door ahead of you, it is large and quite ominous, made of metal and engraved with iconography.
Feb 4, 2017 8:05 pm
Temporarily holding her blade pinched between her arm and torso, Harmia will attempt to pull the door open.
Feb 6, 2017 12:25 am
You throw the doors open the room is at first empty, there are a number of candles placed on assorted skulls. Then the candles all blow out, and the smoke that rises from the extinguished lights coalesce to a humanoid figure, that appears clothed in a heavy cloak and with sharp grotesque long claws where its hand would be.

Mechanically you just spent your entire turn kneeling on the ground and this is the monsters next turn. Make me a DC 15 con saving throw, on a pass take half damage. I'm sorry, I actually needed to make a Concentration Check to see if I can hold onto Hunter's Mark after taking that damage from before. It's DC 10.

Edit: So after getting hit, Hunter's Mark failed. I would have cast it again right after, so just ignore the 3rd attack on my triplet of strikes right after taking damage, since I would've used that Bonus Action to recast it before attacking, instead of swinging a third time. Sorry about that!

It's hard to read such a feature less creature, but you would almost say it is becoming desperate. You finally notice a sound that has been there all along, a low keening just sub-audible. Not that it matters for this combat can you roll concentration for hunters mark, if your not pressing on though just ignore this.
Your strikes cause the wail to crescendo splitting your ears for a second before it reverberates into nothingness. The monster turns to ash and you absorb the Soul of the Ashen Wraith. Where it stood two sprites of humanity float, and a bonfire has appeared on the ground.

Other than the way you came in the only exit is a doer made of solid stone.

Harmia, panting, drops her blades to the ground with a loud clang, and sinks to her knees. Her hands still shake from the experience with the wraith, and she rubs them down her face. Slowly, she's able to steady her breathing and come back to her senses, and she heads over, collecting the humanities and lighting the bonfire, and she takes a rest.

Mostly, I changed the typing, resistances to incorporeality, made some slight adjustments to the enthral and draining kiss powers to balance it for one on one combat. Good spot!

Think about any reduction to your max health as you going hollow. So if you want your health back you'll need to offer a humanity sprite at a bonfire.
Soul of the Ashen Wraith. In the days the light first faded strange creatures tended to divine flames that ease the pain of those who were cursed. It seems the something in the tomb has extinguished one of this creatures, leaving behind a terrible creature of ash and sorrow. Offer to a bonfire to gain 1100xp, use for trading or to create a powerful item.

Spent both Soul of Ashen Wraith and Ashen Forest to level up. Spent a Humanity to recover HP.

Her senses restored, she feels a pull - as if from nowhere - to press onward. She stands, collecting her blades off of the ground, and proceeds to push upon the stone door.
OOC:
Right?! It's crazy that I would pick those things in a DS game. Though, I could've picked Plants right before helping Tosti with his plant-beast.

You push against the door but it doesn't budge.
OOC:
Hang on, you don't have darkvision anymore, are you bringing that back online?

Nope!
You try to examine the door in detail but it is too dark. You can feel there are some groves carved into it but without a complete understanding of the pattern you can't make heads or tales of it.
Feb 17, 2017 10:43 am
Harmia enchants her eyes to see in the dark and then reexamined the door.
Feb 18, 2017 4:06 am
With her eyes fully adjusted to the dark Harmia sees that the has 5 hemisphere inlets arranged in a cross shape, each connected to all but the opposing inlet via an channel. If she touches the central inlet it lights up for a fleeting moment with a strange black flame with white tips, similar to how the humanities appear. If she touches one of the other inlets it will light up with a feeble white whisps of light which quickly fades.
Feb 18, 2017 11:53 am
Harmia takes a mental note of this, pondering it briefly, and then exits the tomb to see what other paths might be out there for her.
OOC:
I could be very wrong, but I'm assuming the white ones are for souls, of which I have none at this moment.
Feb 20, 2017 4:26 am
The word path is ill used to define any of your potential directions of travel. The forest grows quite thick very quickly if you move away from the solitary path that connects the tomb to that collapsed tower you just came from. Past the depths of the forest (though you need not go through the forest's center to get there) is the squat square building you saw from the wall, your new vantage point reveals that a collection of small houses surround that building, all of them have the air of decay to them, as if the forest has reclaimed them all.
Feb 20, 2017 7:47 pm
Harmia gathers up the scraps of courage that remain from her trials thus far, and proceeds toward the squat building.
Feb 22, 2017 10:57 am
OOC:
I'm going to run this section of your travels a little bit differently then the combat slog you've been facing so far...

So I would like you to describe how you are traveling the forest, and from your description make me some kind of skill check. Some details that you might find useful; the forest is dense and there are no paths, the forest seems aggressive and has malicious intent, some plants may attack you as you move. This is only the first part of your journey, so only describe how you set off.
Feb 24, 2017 12:20 pm
Harmia, worried about facing some creature like the plant-beast that surely would have killed her were it not for Tosti's aid, elects to use the stealthy option. She makes a few gestures, mumbles a prayer, and stalks off into the woods. Her feet fall lightly, her breath is but a whisper, and she leaves hardly a trace behind her as she breaks off from the already overgrown paths she'd been walking on until this point.
OOC:
So, I hadn't considered spellcasting material components. Dunno how you want to handlle that, since I don't really use a holy symbol or anything. Maybe I have to buy spell components. Dunno! If I can use spells without material components, I'll cast Pass Without Trace. If I cannot, then I will merely regret my spell choices and stealth on anyway :)

For now I'm going to say your using that amulate as a focus, as I think that might work...
As Harmia sneaks through the wood she avoid the majority of the forests wrath.
OOC:
You come across some natural obstacle. Describe it and how you attempt to overcome it; with a relevant skill roll.
Mar 4, 2017 3:36 am
OOC:
Sounds great! Unfortunately, it'd be cheesy to make this some other kind of stealth roll so that I could still benefit from my +10 :)
Eventually Harmia comes across a large, fallen tree. It is something unnatural compared to the rest of the vegetation here, as the trunk itself must be twenty feet wide. It is currently toppled on its side and overgrown with vines and other foliage, which Harmia uses to try and climb her way to the top.

An overwhelming sense of fear and despair fills you. You'll need to act fast to escape, but you are to lethargic to do so by force.
OOC:
Describe how you exit the tree, and make a relevant skill roll that isn't athletics. Wether you succeed or not you do still manage to get out...
Mar 22, 2017 3:02 am
Harmia runs up the side of the tree, kicking off of it to climb back out of the hole she fell through.

OOC:
Give a description of you pushing forward or taking in the scene, include a roll.
Apr 6, 2017 4:04 pm
Breathing deeply from the exertion, Harmia places her hands upon her hips, staring out into what lies beyond.

In the distance the square rectangular building you saw some time ago is revealed in detail for the first time. A low castle, surrounded by a decaying village. You also spy horrid monstrosities mindlessly walking about the decaying woods. Grotesque humanoids with large toloned feet, extended and clawed fingers and where their heads should be a hard leathery carapace covered with numerous glowing red eyes.

OOC:

OOC:
Some kind of save could work, I'm thinking any mental stat or Con. A nature arcane or survival roll would work too.

OOC:
