OOC:
It is big enough for you to climb through, though not by a huge amount
Dec 10, 2016 1:04 am
I walk around the mill looking for another way in. Perhaps by the water wheel?
Dec 10, 2016 2:36 am
Bughu stows his longbow and readies his crossbow. He begins to scale the wall of the mill, using the gutter pipe as an impromptu rope.

Athletics - (1d20+3)

(10) + 3 = 13

Bughu quickly ascends the pipe and gets to the level of the window. Peering in, he can see a group of men on the top level, crossbows readied to fire on anyone who enters through the door. There is also a man pacing back and forth between this window and another across the room, obviously watching out for anyone who might try what you're doing.
Dec 13, 2016 10:05 pm
Bughu briefly scouts the number of men and their positions, and quickly lowers himself back to the ground to hopefully avoid detection. He won't be able to do anything against them on his own.
Dec 13, 2016 10:21 pm
There are seven men, three armored and four not, in the loft of the barn. They are all watching the entrance, aside from the one patrolling the windows. You realize that he could have shot at you out of the window, but he appears to be waiting for you to enter. You also noticed that the wheel in the mill is still turning, causing it to be quite noisy inside.

OOC:
Is there a point of entry where the water wheel joins the mill wheel?

OOC:
Hmm... book doesn't state that it's a water mill, and the mill is like 40 feet from the stream. Assuming that they didn't think it through very well...
The water wheel connects with the mill wheel through a small opening, just big enough accommodate the connecting rod, so is not anything that you can move through.
Dec 13, 2016 10:53 pm
Bughu rejoins the party to relate what he saw inside the mill, including how the sentry neglected to take the shot of opportunity.
Dec 13, 2016 11:05 pm
Sounds like they're waiting for us, and going in the window's a good way to get shot. If we could draw that one to a window one we could take him out and maybe go in that way after all. What do you all think?
Dec 13, 2016 11:30 pm
"It's a climb up. How many of us can make it, much less get inside one at a time through the window while six others shoot?" Bughu shakes his head. "I don't think this is a battle we can win; we're not equipped to siege this building."
Dec 13, 2016 11:59 pm
While you are discussing things, you begin to hear raised voices from within the mill, though you can't tell what's being said.
OOC:
You can try a perception check if you want to attempt to listen

Perceiving... perceiving....
Post roll: Eh? What's that sonny?

Bughu keeps an ear out, especially since the group is basically out in the open during a battle.

You can hear from inside the building some shouting.

"I say we take what we got and go!" shouts one man, and you hear a couple of others agree with him.

"No, we're sworn in, we stick with the plan!" shouts back another and you hear a small murmur of agreement.

It seems that they're having an argument about whether to stay in town or take their loot and go.

Perhaps we should tell them to leave any food in the mill, take their plunder and go. We've lots of fightin' tonight, one less is all right by me.

Bughu nods. "Tell those that want to leave, they will not be harmed by us," he adds, conviction in his voice indicating that he intends to follow through on that claim as a soldier. "Remind them that the mill is on fire." Of course, that last comment hinges on the belief that those inside cannot see the condition of the exterior.

"One thing to note," Bughu continues. "The men we saw outside were not large in number. Their friends were already inside when we approached."

I was concerned that nobody was going to catch that little fact ;)

Aye lad, but you two dealt with three of them handily enough already, with narry a scratch to us. Perhaps they'll consider that as well.
