Chapter 1: Lady Luck's Curtsy

Thruun Twice-Orphaned was a tall man with tall weapons, but Neraduin had already experienced quite some stress the night before. Between the unusual group, the extravagant baron and the scary aarakocra his trance had been perhaps a tad too short, but Neraduin was used to being awake for long hours. He had quite the energy, but the bags under his eyes were still as deep as yesterday.
He would sit and look at their two flying sentinels with wariness.
Unnerving eh ? he suddenly blurts out to Rolen.

"Well, I didn't so much work for him as I stayed for a time as a representative of my order on a tour around the region, but he isn't… let's go with 'traditional,' when it comes to running things. Might be why he's lasted so much longer than the last two." Krieger pulls out a flask and takes a drink. "I didn't have many official duties in his court, but he did persuade me to join a few 'expeditions' that he organized. Not unlike what we're doing now, really."

Rolen looks up from his book he's reading to Neraduin "Not anymore unnerving than your sleep deprivation, friend." he shuts his book "Tell me, what worries are on your mind."

Worried ?
Neraduin looks at the two aarakocra, and then at their band of travellers.
Well, why in the world would the baron hire so many different people ? I don't trust him for a minute. His "contract" is a joke. He has a parchment with a list of names - when they are readable. A man of his rank should do these things properly. Do you even understand the implications this can have in front of the law ? As far as I know, there is no contract. We need clear and official clauses agreed by both parties. When we get back, he's gonna hear from me again, oh yes he will.
The wood elf seems intent on continuing his rant for a while longer. He starts brushing an imaginary beard with his fingers.
This is going to be a logistical nightmare... I'll also have to consider doing a report to bring back evidence of our work. Well, you're lucky you have me. The Stonequill's signature has weight, I'm telling you. He will have to pay us, and to be honest I think his payment etiquette is out of touch. We don't know anything specific about the additional payments. I'll have to tighten our conditions if we ever want the chance to be treated fairly. These are not good working conditions, Rolen. I'll need parchment when we get to Willowfall.
He puts his hands behind his head and starts thinking deeply, gazing at the sky.

"He gave us gold and the promise of gold for a couple of secrets, to be honest, I don't care who he hired as long as they're capable." Rolen removes a sheet of parchment, a ink pen and bottle from his backpack and holds it out to Neraduin "Why wait?" he asks with a smile.

Neraduin looks up to Rolen and at the items he produced several times, before smiling with glee at his comrade.
I... I haven't used paper in a while. Thank you, Rolen ! You're doing us a great service.
Neraduin would grab the items and start focusing intently on his task, scribbling quickly in an elegant yet very small handwriting.
So... uh, the other elf, Orseas was it ? He doesn't seem to like you very much... To be honest not everyone here looks... approachable ? he spares a quick look at the winged humanoids before writing another few words on the parchment.

You manage to scrawl a passable contract document onto the parchment. All the standard boilerplate content is there, and a layman could identify the whens and how muches on the sheet. However, the jostling of the cart over the terrain has your normally steady quill skipping over the parchment. It is far from your best work. In fact, it is far from the work you produced as a pure novice.
As the carts roll on for another hour or so, your conversations rise and fall, people observe and perhaps sleep (for those not accustomed to such early rising), you notice the wind begins to pick up, quite strongly, in fact.
Baraq and Aera, please make a DEX or STR save, your choice.

As the winds howl and rage, Aera performs marvelous aeronautical maneuvers, remaining aloft in the face of the extreme winds. Unfortunately, Baraq did not appear to get into the flow nearly as well. It's clear the other Aarakocra is struggling against the winds. While she doesn't plummet, she also kind of stalls out a bit, no longer making forward progress against the storms.
@Baraq, you feel the bindings holding your weapons to you start to loosen. Not enough to fall out....yet.

Baraq descends to get out of the gusts, looking to land on one of the carts in order to settle both herself and her equipment.

The carts bumble along as the sun starts to sink in the sky. Over the few hours you've been riding since the winds whipped up, they've since died down. Only to be replaced by a driving rain. The clouds formed in the sky as quickly as the fog appears on the mirror when you breathe. Then the drops started. Fat and spaced at first. Slowly it grew into a sheeting rain, making visibility very difficult. Some thunder sounds in the distance as lightning begins to crack across the sky.
Before the clouds darked your sight, you noticed you were about 500 yards off the perimeter of the Neverwinter Wood, keeping the trees on your left.
Perception checks from everyone please.
