Thyran's phaserblast hit's the creature in the flank, almost knocking it over. As it recovers you see the feral rage in it's eyes, and it pounces on Thyran.
OOC:
Spending 1 threat to avoid injury. A good shot there!
OOC:
Spending another threath to win the opposed roll. Thyran takes 2 damage and is knocked down. Party has initiative.

Claw [CD] - (3d6)

(456) = 15

Sevek swiftly moves towards the back of the Panther as it attacks Thyran. He quickly locates a critical nerve cluster at the base of the Panther's neck and applies a Vulcan Nerve Pinch.
OOC:
Using 1 determination for an automatic 20. Sevek's determination pool should be back down to 2 now.

OOC:
I count 4 successes and 3 damage for Sevek. Panther has 2 successes, so the party gains 2 momentum. The panther takes 3 damage. Sadly you didn't get any effects, so the Intense effect isn't put in action.
The huge feline rears up on it's hind legs as the Vulcan performs the nerve pinch, but it seems the panther is too tough, and the pinch does not have the desired effect.
OOC:
Still your initiative, as there is only one enemy atm.

Rolls

Opposed melee check - (2d20)

(1113) = 24

Jan 30, 2017 12:45 am
OOC:
i realize now that Thyran had three successes last time, since he rolled a 3 equal to his focus
Thyran, realizing that his phaser is out of charge and not wanting to fumble for one of the extra Type Is in his pocket, decides to take the beast on with his bare hands. He attempts to bring a double fist under the panther's jaw, near its throat.

(111) = 12

(151452) = 18

OOC:
Sorry, my phrasing was perhaps a bit vague or misleading. By your initiative, I mean Phenna or Nadim may act, as we are still in the first round. I'll let them post, then have Thyrans melee attack be the first action of the next round.
Jan 30, 2017 1:31 pm
Phenna draws her phaser and fires the last shot its charge can muster, using one point of momentum for an extra die.

Phaser on the kitty (Bravery + Security = TN12) - (3d20, 4d6)

3d20 : (10121) = 23

4d6 : (2343) = 12

Jan 30, 2017 1:55 pm
The phaser blast hits the feline's hindquarters for a solid hit, but the huge cat merely shrugs it off.
OOC:
I realize I forgot to update momentum earlier, but you've now topped it up to 6/6 again. Nadim's up, then It's a new turn.
Jan 30, 2017 11:44 pm
"Oh my.." Nadim says. Taking advantage of the others and their exceptional efforts to subdue the panther, he does a short somersault, just like they teach at the academy, to come up on the flank of the beast. Kneeling he fires at the exposed side of the panther... at an increased charge.
OOC:
Using 1 momentum for success. Charge should now be 2. +1CD

Rolls

Bravery + Security (13) - (3d20)

(4713) = 24

Damage on a hit - (6d6)

(453552) = 24

Jan 30, 2017 11:46 pm
OOC:
I'd like to use spare momentum to increase the damage if needed to bring the panther down. What is my success target to hit?
Jan 31, 2017 7:34 am
OOC:
The standard difficulty for phaser fire is 2, so you have 1 spare momentum. I'll chalk that up as +1 damage, which gives you a total of 6 damage.
Nadim's phaser blast hits it in the side, almost toppling the beast over, ut lunges at him and swipes at him with a claw. The claw hits Nadim hard in the chest and knocks him down.

OOC:
Cmbrian says:
does Thyran get a knockdown?
Yes, indeed. Blanked on Thyran having that effect. Panther is knocked down.
Cmbrian says:
Also, how does injury work on an NPC? There were two attacks that probably did 5+ damage, depending on soak. Does the panther have determination to ignore injury?
I can spend Threat as you would determination. I did so the first time you possibly injured it. I blanked on the second one though, too many thoughts in my head, and the panther should now be injured yes. I could spend 2 threat now I believe, but I don't see the point as the cat only had 1 stress left, so I'll have it go down now.
Cmbrian says:

Could one momentum be used for Penetration, ignoring two soak?
Yes.
The big feline beast looks deeply into Thyran's eyes, then gathers all it's strength for a final pounce, but instead collapses from the severe beating.
OOC:
Combat over. You may now proceed to fix the ship. Note that the storm is getting worse, and you're not out of the proverbial woods yet. If you don't do this in time you might get stuck here!

The repairs are an Obstacle, with a Progress Track of 12, a Magnitude of 2, and with a base Difficulty of 3 for each Task to overcome it. The default Task to overcome it is Control + Engineering, though there may be other creative solutions.

The repairs are an Obstacle, with a Progress Track of 12, a Magnitude of 2, and with a base Difficulty of 3 for each Task to overcome it. The default Task to overcome it is Control + Engineering, though there may be other creative solutions.

Phenna grabs the parts, and settles into work. She moves quickly, doing what she can to get things to work together well, jury-rigging repairs where possible.
OOC:
Using Jury Rig talent, reduces the Difficulty by 2 (so it's now a 1). Spending 2 momentum to extend the scenes the repairs will last for (3 total scenes). If the 1 scene that I get by default would get us to our next station, I won't spend any momentum here. DM choice.

Spending 1 momentum to gain an extra d20.

Results:
Control + Engineering (TN 12) - (3d20)
( 14, 5, 3 ) = 22

2 or 3 successes (I have a skill focus on engineering propulsion systems. If that's applicable here, since I was doing some nacelle work, it'd be 3 sucesses).

Spending another momentum to reroll the 5 and 4 on the progress (shouldn't have rerolled the 5, but it came back up. Forgot that 5 was an Effect. D'oh.)

7 total points of progress towards 12, good for 1 Breakthrough, plus 2 Effects.

Spent 4 momentum, Gained 2 momentum.

Rolls

Control + Engineering (TN 12) - (3d20)

(1453) = 22

Progress (2 + Skill (3) = 5) - (5d6)

(26154) = 18

Reroll 2 [CD] - (2d6)

(52) = 7

Jan 31, 2017 8:04 pm
OOC:
I think extending it for 3 scenes is a good idea, assuming you don't want to get stranded in deep space. ;)

Nacelle work is indeed a part of this, so I'll grant 3 successes.

As you stated, Progress 7/12, Breakthroughs 1/2
Phenna makes good time on the repairs, and it seems like you'll be along shortly.
OOC:
Meanwhile, someone might want to plot a safe course up and out through the ion storms, requiring a Reason + Science Task with a Difficulty of 2. Two Momentum may be spent from this Task to reduce the Difficulty of the pilot’s Task (in the next scene -- if all goes well) by one.

Nadim stands up and brushes off his uniform to the best of his ability. Unable to contain himself, he takes a sample from the dead animal for later study. Once back at the shuttle with the rest of the crew and passengers, he busies himself with ensuring that the scientists are coming back around and herded to stay out of the way in case their cognitive functions are not up to snuff.

Nadim demurs from aiding in the repairs at this time, noting that he's not good fixing things as much as fixing beings. Still if necessary he'll do what he can to lend a hand. Failing that, he'll keep an eye out for anything else untoward coming from the foliage, as he has a high level of vigilance...
Jan 31, 2017 9:29 pm
Thyran puts his type II phaser in its charging bay on the shuttle and holsters one of the spare type I phasers [7CD]. There were at least 4 affected scientists when we arrived he thinks to himself. Sitting at the sensor station, he performs a wide area life form scan, looking for humanoids as well as threats.

OOC:
Yeah, that's a difficulty zero task, so you now have 5/6 momentum (forgot to deduct earlier)
Thyran locates the remaining scientists in a clearing not far away from the shuttle. You might be able to get there and get them, but time is of the essence.
