CH 1.1-b: Shank's Pre-Owned

Dec 20, 2016 5:13 pm
As Lissewa enters the cantina, the rest of you hear a relaxed and soft music coming from within, which cuts off as soon as the door closes. The Kraspen night becomes still and quiet for a moment, broken by high-pitched screams off in the distance. They continue for several seconds, growing ever more desperate, before suddenly stopping mid-shriek.

Moving along, you continue down the alley, finally coming to a stop where the neon sign says 'OPEN'. Barely illuminated by the neon glow, you see a sign on the door that says 'Shank's Pre-Owned", below which you read 'Make the other guy's stuff Yours... Legally!' Eager to get out of the stench, Krosus pushes the keypad next to the door and it opens, stale light from within penetrating the darkness of the alley. You enter.

As the door closes behind you, you survey the shop. It's small, gloomy, and dingy looking, perhaps 15 by 15 meters, full of shelves stocked with various odds and ends along with items hanging on wall displays. Krosus breathes deeply, trying to push away the nausea that was slowly permeating his stomach. A pair of struggling old air filters in the ceiling make the occasional ticking noise as they struggle against Kraspen itself, along with a smell cultivated by what must be the ever present smoke of death sticks.

"Welcome to Shank's Pre-Owned," a monotonous voice drones in basic, "where you can make the other guy's stuff yours." A pause, followed by an exhaled word dripping with boredom, punctuating the sales pitch. "Legally." Your attention is almost immediately drawn to the right, where you see an older looking obese sullustan behind a counter, smoke drifting through face-high ventilation holes in the plastiglass protective barrier separating him from the threat of robbery and the rest of the room.

Behind him, a menagerie of weapons hang from the wall, promising victory with an advertisement showing a smiling human, holding a large blaster pistol, accompanied by the slogan 'Kill the Other Guy First'. The sullustan doesn't bother to acknowledge you, his attention clearly captivated by the small holo-vid projection of very scantily clad twi'leks doing erotic dances on the counter inside his plastiglass space, accompanied by likewise erotic music. A sawn-off scattergun is easily within his reach, prominently displayed next to the holo-vid projector as a warning.

The obese sullustan takes a long drag from his death stick, shifts in his swivel stool chair, then absent mindedly rubs/scratches his nose, exhaling through his mouth and nose moments later. A barrage of coughs is followed by a snort, then a gurgly hacking sound as he spits toward the floor and the doorway behind the plastiglass. For a moment he is captivated by the dancing Twi'leks, and then he shifts again, ignoring your presence.

Still humming, Hawke entered the pawn shop and, after a quick threat assessment of the proprietor, began examining all of the various items up on the shelves and walls.

Now lets see if there are any goodies here worth sending back home.

Meribson says:

OOC:
If there's something you're interested in from one of the CRB's, ask. Shank's has an assortment of goods, and I can't, and don't want to, list them all. Guns and various weapons hang from the wall behind the counter, and there are shelves and other items mounted on the walls on your side of the plastiglass. Also, there is clearly a back room, behind the clerk at the counter watching Twi'lek erotica.
Dec 21, 2016 2:06 am
Wretched damned place. Seems like it's right up Hawke's alley.

Lexi walked around the shop, perusing the goods. After she picked up a spare breathing mask, she walked up to the counter.

Just the mask. Lexi said, as she set the mask on the counter. Kriffin' riots, eh? Must drive decent business here. DFs and MZs goin' at it, Espos beatin' people in open air. Makes me wish I had something just a little more effective on me than my boot, feel me? She said, hoping that he'd show some increase in emotion, anger at the riots, something useful.
OOC:
Not 100% sure how this should work, but I'm thinking she'd try using her Influence force power to try triggering an angry emotional response around the DFs and the MZs. She's aiming to try getting his tongue to slip just enough to get more information about the groups.

Tajanna, after the proprietor had turned his attention back to his holovid, quietly walked up and down the store, purusing the merchandise on display.

I don't suppose Shank has any spare intragalactic multi-phasic frequency modulators lying around. He probably does have some respirators, at least. Maybe even one that smells relatively fresh.
OOC:
As you can probably guess, Tajanna is looking for any respirators or missing holoterminal parts for sale.
Dec 21, 2016 2:19 pm
Lexi feels the force answer her call as she works on the sullustan's mind, trying to use the dark side to twist and bend the floodgates of anger open. Her efforts, however, are futile as the sullustan is unmoved, death stick hanging slack from his lips as he scratches at his cheek, enthralled by the holo-vid.

"Breath mask's 75 creds." Palpable sarcasm drips as he continues, still as a statue. "And, oh yeah, riots are just kriffin' horrible for business." A lazy drag from his death stick, hands free. "And some people need a beating. Far as your boots, look around, we got everything ya' could want for all of your, 'self-defense' needs." A half grin barely forms with the death stick still in his mouth. Suddenly, the shopkeeper grunts a cough that forces a lengthy cylinder of ash to fall from his death stick, into his lap. "Wait a sec... Floaters and Mech'ers goin' at it?"

He seems less entranced, but still watches the holo-vid. "Nah. Don't know where you picked that rumor up, and I wouldn't go spreadin' it." He actually looks at Lexi, pointing an ashy, meaty finger. "Don't go starting trouble between 'em now, making things up. Business is better when they're stealin', scammin', and crookin' in general. Not when they're fightin' each other." He actually turns toward Lexi now, leaning back in his well-worn, extra-wide, extra cushioned swivel stool chair. Seemingly without thought, he lights another death stick, leaving the old one to smoke itself out in an ashtray.

His eyes narrow, focusing on Lexi, scanning up, then down, slowly taking her in, almost as if he was reading a data slate. Smoke slowly makes its way out of his nostrils. "Ain't seen you around before, so..." Another drag and a gust of exhaled smoke oozes through the glass, dancing around Lexi's face. "I gotta wonder, now." He scratches his chin. "Why would you go sayin' somethin' like that, anyhow?"
OOC:
All of you receive a text message on your comlinks from Lissewa: "I've made contact. Be ready to hit the cantina."

None of you see an intragalactic multi-phasic frequency modulator to fix the holo-terminal on the Spear, based on Hawke's description. However, they're pricier as far as parts go, about 750 credits, so it probably wouldn't be something on your side of the glass where it could be shoplifted.

Also, to simplify shopping, let's say anything from the CRB's below Rarity Level 5 can be seen for sale on your side of the glass, at double prices (excluding bacta, weapons, reloads/ammo, and armor). Weapons from the CRB's below Rarity Level 5 can be seen for sale behind the glass, on the shopkeeper's side.

A glow-lit sign on the plastiglass boldly proclaims: "If you don't see what you're looking for, just ask."

Hello my friend.Krosus says moving up beside of Lexi and picking up one of the respirators, as if examining it.A mutual friend said that you were a generous credit lender. I would say that a credit line of about ten thousand should cover our needs. Especially since we want to see what sort of specialty items you might have for sale.

This weak minded fool, will service us one way or other; despite the quality of his merchandise. I will defiantly have to wipe or destroy any recordings before we leave, encase anyone gets curious about what happened here.

So, how about it friend? Thanks for lending us Ten thousand credits, to purchase from your fine establishment.

Having looked around at the cheap pieces of bantha crap that was out in front, Hawke considered his options. On the red wire he could stick around and try to haggle for a couple hundred credit piece of equipment, on the green wire he could go to the cantina to meet with the contact. Which would be more amusing in the short term? Shrugging his shoulders, Hawke approached the now crowded front desk to speak to the fat sullistan.

Best get into character, I want to see how long the rest of the crew figures out that I'm faking this.

"Greetings Pawn-Shop-Proprietor, do you by chance have an intragalactic multi-phasic frequency modulator or any parts with which to assemble such a device?"
Dec 22, 2016 3:36 am
Tajanna pointedly rolled her eyes in Lexi's direction.

The master of operational security in action.

And 75 credits for a used respirator! Let's just see if Shank has our holoterminal part, and get going to Lissi's meetup.

Tajanna walked over to join the others talking to Shank, while typing out a reply to Lissi's message on her datapad: "We're just finishing up business here; we'll be over shortly."
Dec 22, 2016 6:42 pm
Krosus draws on the dark side, and it answers, fueling his efforts to manipulate the man. The sullustan seems momentarily dazed for the briefest second, then guffaws at Krosus. "HA!" He hacks, coughing a gurgly laugh. Snorting, he draws some phlegm in, then spits into the spitoon on the floor behind him. "Oh, you're a funny one! Regular comedian you are! 10,000 credits!?! Who put you up to that one!?"

Chuckling, he shifts his mass to address Hawke, scratching at his flabby throat. "Nah. We don't got one of those modulators. Know what you're talkin' about though, but full body scale holo-terminal parts ain't usually somethin' that comes through here." Another chuckle and a gurgle with a glance at Krosus, accompanied by a drag on his death stick. "Only place I know you can get 'em at is any MechTronics... but they're all closed down tight, just like the other corp' stores. Riots and all, you understand."
OOC:
CCL: Mind trick is tricky to learn how to use, so I understand what you were going for. However, that wasn't remotely in the realm of a simple untruth (e.g., "these are not the droids you're looking for", "we've got reservations", "it's time for you to go on break," "you don't want to sell me death sticks" etc). Remember, the harder the mind trick would be to believe, and the more complicated, the less likely it is to work. Without these rules, Influence would be exceedingly overpowered in the game. What you're asking the shopkeeper to believe is something he would most certainly and absolutely never do, for anyone.

As such, as much as I hate saying it, what Krosus is trying to do is literally impossible, as it is something completely outside of believable for the shopkeeper, and consequently far beyond what Influence is capable of. You're trying to get him to believe something he never possibly would (10,000 credits is A LOT! Perhaps the entire stock!). Simple truths are typically something that can be believed (like the above examples, or when you told Zhaff that "help was on the way"). I would have allowed that your influence might have gotten you some line of credit, and you would have been better off being non-specific about it (allowing the shop keeper to imagine what he deems possible), or have chosen a much, much, lower number (e.g., 100 credits or some such).

Again, the Mind Trick is a simple untruth. Something that you would express with a singular, short, and simple statement (like the above examples). Influence can get really out of hand otherwise, as 'Influence mind controlling' everyone would just own the game outright, eliminating the need for any other abilities, skills, or character types (e.g., Give me all the money, Murder the governor, Kill your friends, now Kill yourself, etc).

In one senetence: CCL, you've got to make it somewhat believable, and it should be a simple short statement contained in one sentence (like the examples above).
Dec 22, 2016 10:38 pm
Krosus storms away from the counter, slamming the door to the shop behind him as he makes his way back to the Vehicle. . If only he had received more practice with his influence abilities before leaving, he would not have failed in getting what he wanted from the alien.

I will not fail again, he promises himself out loud.

Once we have met with the contact that Zhaff, set us up with maybe we could explore the Mechtronics store the clerk mentioned. Perhaps the security measures will be easy to circumvent. Regardless, the force will lead us on to victory.
Dec 23, 2016 1:27 am
With a frown, Hawke turned and left the shop. Catching Krosus's aloud thought, Hawke raised an eyebrow and updated his mental file of the human.

Krosus possesses pride bordering on idiocy. May lead himself open if failures are thrown in his face.

Deciding to test his hypothesis, "A suggestion Systems Operator, when attempting to obtain store credit do not request the value of the entire stock of merchandise."

[I'm not too proud to admit that I was wrong, referring to your pawns by their roles is more amusing than I anticipated.]
Dec 23, 2016 1:53 am
Lexi looked quickly at the shop keeper when Krosus attempted to swing his mind. Noticing him focus on her shipmate, she stepped back away from the counter and checked her commo unit. When she saw the note from Lissewa, she decided to make a quick exit from the shop.

So the DFs and MZs normally don't fight with one another? Interesting. Floaters and Mechers. We should probably get some more info on these guys. Maybe this contact of Zhaff's has some information we could obtain. She thought as she slipped the respirator back over her mouth before heading back toward the cantina.

Still, I should spend more time in meditation. See if I can improve my abilities with the Force. Not being able to even get a weak-minded shopkeeper to release a little bit of emotion. Kriffin' shopkeepers. When she reached the door, she pulled the door open and walked into the bar.

Meribson, from now on let's add a little something extra to make your parent's voices more salient. Keep doing the bold with the italics to lend them an actual 'voice' in your head. However, moving forward, let's put a bracket at the beginning and end of their dialogue to make it really clear. An example can be seen in your last post.
Dec 23, 2016 1:53 pm
Tajanna looked up from her datapad, and quickly followed Lexi, Krosus, and Hawke out of Shank's shop, towards Lissi's meetup at the cantina.

Well, this was a useless waste of time. Hopefully Lissi had better luck with Zhaff's friend.

And Krosus here might need some pointers on how the Force works. Really, a 10000 line of credit from someone we've just me. From a someone who showed no inclination of having anything resembling generosity or naivety, specifically. At least the shopkeeper had the sense of humour to take it as a joke, rather than as an affront to his business sense.

On Monday I was trying to figure out a way to keep what everyone wrote and still do the encounter, but it just doesn't work, so we'll have to retcon a little due to PbP style. The bottom line is that just walking out of Shank's would cause you problems...
Just as Krosus and Hawke step beyond the threshold of Shanks, out into the wretched stench of the dark alley, he hears "There they are! Take them down!"
OOC:
Flipping a Destiny Point here from Light to Dark; I don't want to give anything away to Squeeks, so I'll adjust it later.

Combat!

Krosus and Hawke are within short range of Shank's doorway while Lexi and Tajanna are just about to exit. All of you are within medium range of your attackers, who are down the alley, blocking entry to and guarding Charitable Charlatan's. In total, it looks like 2 Rodians, outfitted in padded armor with heavy blaster pistols (in cover blocking the doorway) and 6 Droids, blaster pistols (2 groups, essentially providing cover for the Rodians).

Everyone roll Vigilance for your initiative. See the OOC for an explanation of how we're doing initiative for PbP (there's a slight, but important, difference between PbP style initiative and using rules as written). Also, to see how far you can move and possible actions, there is plenty of info in the Library to help. A core rule of combat (aka structured time) is that you can take 1 action and 1 maneuver per turn, for the most part. Again, see the Library if you're not familiar with how to use actions and maneuvers.

This initiative order will be used throughout combat, so we'll need no further initiative rolls. Remember, PC Slots are first come first serve, no matter how you rolled. Also, after you write up your action in the post (before actually posting), it would be wise to open another tab and check to see if anything has changed right before you click 'post' or 'save' (this is actually a good thing to do before any post you make, and something I do as a player in all of my games, to make sure what I'm posting still makes sense, e.g., you can't shoot someone who is dead, etc.).

Initiative Order

Droid Group 2 (3 Droids)
PC Slot-1
PC Slot-2
PC Slot-3 ----> ties go to PC's :)
Droid Group 1 (3 Droids)
Rodian 1
Rodian 2
PC Slot-4

Regarding the Droid Groups: There are 2 Droid minion groups, so they attack as one. Minion groups in the Star Wars RPG are groups that attack as one, and are more capable the larger the group is. It's essentially a good way to add more enemies to a fight without adding more initiative slots and clunkiness/crunch to keep track of.
A group of 3 droids opens up on Krosus with their blaster pistols, their attention still focused on him as he was the first into the alley. Krosus can almost feel a blaster bolt's heat as it goes whizzing by.

The droids use the Aim maneuver with their blaster pistols to add a blue die to their attack. For those of you without some sort of equipped night vision, ranged attacks will be made with two black setback die added (except for these droids, which can see in the dark via night vision tech). Their Difficulty to hit is at two purple due to Medium range. Minions work as a group, don't have skill ranks as individuals, but get an additional Skill Rank for every member of the group above 1 (in this case, that means their Ranged Light is at 2 Ranks, changing two green to two yellow). In the future I won't add this much mechanical info, just giving some of you an idea how things work.

The droids miss Krosus, barely. As far as places to draw them into CCL, you don't see any open doors or side areas. It's an alley with the occasional doorway. Past the attacking droids and Rodians is the street where the ECUL is parked. The other direction leads to a 4-way intersection.

Core combat principles: 1 Action and 1 Maneuver on your turn, in any order. Remember, taking out a weapon counts as a maneuver. An action can be exchanged for a second maneuver (so, for example, you could give up your attack to move closer to the enemies via the 2nd maneuver, after drawing your lightsaber). You can also get a second maneuver by voluntarily suffering 2 strain. Regardless, you can only have two maneuvers per turn.

PC slots 1, 2, and 3 are up! After that, your attackers get to go. Whoever gets PC-slot 4 will be going last in the round but can, if they like, give some very basic instructions to attack that I might be able to put to work.

Lexi watched as the bolts flew near Krosus. Her lip turned into a snarl as her hand raised up, in the general direction of one of the droids that has not fired on the group, she longed to feel the Dark Side wrap around her. Blaster on the ship, take a blaster from the enemy. Easy solution to a stupid problem.
OOC:
Lexi is going to attempt (again) to harness the Force. She's trying to use the Control feature of Move to rip the weapon from the hands of one of the droids that has NOT fired. I'm not sure if it would fly (I included it on the off chance that it does, but I have ZERO problem if it doesn't work this way), but my thought is that since they haven't seen us use any force powers to date, it may be shocking enough to see someone try using the force to warrant a boost die on the discipline check?

Forgot to type it in the check, but that mass roll includes the YGG for her Discipline as well as the 1 force die.

Lexi's efforts to use the force are in vain as she tries to pull a blaster from one of the droids hands. Hawke and Tajanna have definitely gotten the attention of the Rodians with their lightsabers, as they open fire on them, scoring some less than fatal hits. The remaining droids take shots at Lexi, perhaps threatened somehow by her strange gesture, missing completely as their shot go far wide.

The droids shots miss Lexi completely.

Tajanna is hit for 7 damage minus Reflect 3, then Soak 2. Damage Total =2. 2 Advantage is used to add a setback dice to Tajanna's next attack.

Hawke is hit for 8 damage, minus Refelct 3 then Soak 4. Damage Total =1.

For the rest of the combat, adjust with the appropriate numbers for your character as combat goes on, adding the updated info to the bottom of each new post. After combat I'll make adjustments to character sheets. This saves me some work/time and also helps other players know how bad/good your character is health wise. Below is an example of from Krosus' character (CCL you'll still need to paste yours into your next combat post).

Else if current Strain is less than or equal to half of ST, block
Else if current Wounds are greater than or equal to half of WT and Strain from blocking would not result in unconsciousness, block
Else, don't block
Force Rating: 2

In sum, being able to simply paste this from the character sheet to the combat narrative itself, then update as combat goes along, will put more info in the one place we need it and really streamline things. Back to the fight...
Moving closer reinforces the droids' programming to focus on Krosus as a threat. Opening up again, they blast away to no avail as Krosus deflects the blaster fire with ease, flinging bolts into the nearby walls. Krosus takes: 6 - Parry 4 - Soak 3 = 0 Total Damage. The blue boost dice for Krosus' defense should have been a black. Fixed.

Also, remember the alley is only about 3 meters across, so fairly narrow. I'll allow that two of you can get into melee. Until one of the Droid groups is eliminated, they are essentially forming a wall in the alley blocking movement past them toward the Rodians, or your ECUL for that matter.

Figures. The Force doesn't suffuse this place as strongly as it does back home. I suppose it's better to just go about this with ferocity than subtlety. Lexi thought as her hand dropped behind her, finding her concealed lightsaber handle. In a flash, it's out of concealment, its crimson blade flaring to life. She dropped into her comfortable combat stance, bringing the beam in front of her body.

Guard up and mind analyzing various attack patterns, Hawke raced forwards to his target.

As he closed in, Hawke chose the attack pattern that resulted in the highest probability of mangled droids and intact ganks.

A few things:

(1) Everyone started the fight at Medium range from the droids.

(2) Meribson, post your combat values please. Also, the Droids are blocking the way to the Rodians, Charitable Charlatan's, and the ECUL. In the simplest terms, the way back is blocked. That means you can engage (1 maneuver) and attack (1 action) the droids this turn if you so choose.

(3)Drama, you have Quick Draw. I'm just curious as to why you're not attacking? You also can engage (1 Maneuver) and attack (1 Action) this round. Just making sure you know what's possible, as I don't know who has experience in the game.

Jan 2, 2017 11:29 pm
OOC:
Lexi didn't take quick draw (after checking her sheet). If she did take it and it's just not on there, then yes I would attack.

let's make this quick,Krosus says flourishing his lightsaber after his display of parrying bolts away.

My mistake. Looking again, you're right, she doesn't have it.
Jan 3, 2017 1:51 am
OOC:
Let's scrap the planning ahead thing as it seems to just be complicating things.

Lexi has drawn her weapon. There are two initiative slots left before the enemies have a turn. Hawke has engaged with the droids (I'll assume since he can't reach the Rodians) and can attack (make a dice roll for it Meribson, I'll add the difficulty later). Krosus can engage and attack this turn as well (1 Maneuver to close from Short or Medium range, 1 Action to attack). Tajanna is last, after all other PC's and NPC's.

As mentioned before, the droids are blocking the way in the narrow alley and making a wall of droid in front of the Rodians. If you can eliminate one of the Droid groups you'll be able to engage the Rodians.
So, we're waiting on CCL and Meribson.
Jan 3, 2017 2:06 am
OOC:
Good remembering Meribson. Parry and Reflect cost 3 strain.
This means Tajanna suffers 3 strain as well.

Sabers drawn, the narrow alley now pulsates with a red glow. Krosus and Hawke wade into the droids, side by side, meeting the metallic wall guarding the Rodians. With a singular calculated downward hacking motion, Hawke dispatches a droid as it collapses to the ground. Krosus slashes methodically, first to the right, then up to the left and up, felling two droids as sparks spray against the wall. The low, menacing hum of lightsabers emanates from their assault, throbbing with each swing, accompanied by the occasional crash of saber on metal.

Droid Group One (x1 Droid), engaged with Krosus, fires at him. 2 Difficulty for Ranged attack at Engaged range + Aim Boost (Krosus' Defensive Training won't be counted as it only works vs Melee weapons). Miss!

Rodian One fires at Krosus, Short Range 1 Difficulty + Aim Boost (+1 Setback for firing through Droids into combat, +1 Setback Darkness lit up by sabers, Krosus' Defensive Training won't be counted as it only works vs Melee weapons. Krosus takes 6 - Soak 3 damage, for a total of 3 damage (used the Triumph to ignore Reflect; suffer no strain as you never used Reflect in this case).

Rodian Two fires at Hawke, Short Range 1 Difficulty + Aim Boost (+1 Setback for firing through Droids into combat, +1 Setback Darkness lit up by sabers).Hawke takes 6 damage - Reflect 3 - Soak 5 = 0 total damage. Suffer 3 Strain for using Reflect.

If you're attacking, go ahead and roll your difficulty dice from now on. It's always 1 purple dice when you are at Engaged range attacking with a melee weapon. If I need to make any adjustments or add to roll, I can always do that later.

As far as other ranges and attacking with other weapons, your rule book at home or the Library has the answers.

If you haven't downloaded The Ultimate Condensed Star Wars Reference Sheet, you're really doing yourself a disservice and making your gaming life a lot harder. I go to it all the time. I highly recommend the Word document with the fonts. Really, if you haven't checked this out, you're missing out. It is literally everything you need for this game in 12 pages.

Click on the link and go about halfway down the page. Download the "Force and Destiny - System Cheat Sheet (Word)" and "FFG Star Wars Fonts" and you're good to go. You can use it without the fonts, it'll just be a bit harder to interpret (the fonts are for the dice symbols to show properly).

OOC:
As I understand it, Tajanna cannot close into melee range while Hawke and Krosus are both engaged, so she can't actually attack anything directly.
Tajanna grimaced at her current inability to productively contribute to the fight, the red glow of her unbloodied lightsaber illuminating her foul expression..

My ACP Repeater sure would prove handy right about now. Or any old blaster, really. Or even just a big, heavy rock to throw, if we're being honest here.

Tajanna then quickly advanced as close as possible to where the action was taking place, shooting back a reply to Hawke's query regarding leaving one stupid rodian alive to question.

"Yeah, we should."

Still greatly dissatisfied with her predicament, Tajanna channelled her great dissatisfaction into the Dark Side of the Force, attempting to cloud the mind of the rodian who just fired at Hawke.
OOC:
Tajanna is using a maneuver to move into Short range of the combatants, and using her action to attempt to use the Misdirect force power to make Rodian Two unable to perceive Hawke until the start of Tajanna's next turn.

And I just remembered that I can't use Force powers while my Force die is committed. Yep. Remember to add your your force die being committed as part of your combat info post. Just tack it on below your Parry/Reflect directives.

Also, for assisting Hawke's next check with a boost, we'll just assume your nearby presence is considered enough of a threat to help create openings for Hawke.

The rodains are the real threat here, but who sent them and why. Did the one we kept alive betray us? I find myself agreeing with Hawks analysis of the situation. We need to keep one of the Rodains alive, at least long enough to get answers.

Lexi lunges forward and to the left, vaulting up into the air, somehow landing on the wall. Suspended for the briefest moment as she looks down on her foes, Lexi decapitates one droid before slicing another in half on the way back down to the alley pavement behind Hawke. Droid group 1 is destroyed, Lexi having taken down the last two of them. In style, no less!

Drama, typically, Lexi wouldn't have been able to engage (as previously mentioned, there was only room for two of you to engage with the droids in the narrow 3 meter wide alley). However, in the interest of smoothing things out for PbP and putting your Triumph result to work, we'll say you somehow managed to get an acrobatic hit in by doing some parkour off the wall of the alley, landing behind Hawke.

Keep in in mind that Hawk Bat Swoop lets you engage them from Short range, not attack them at Short range (meaning, you move to them with HBSwoop). It's essentially a leap attack, allowing you to cover Short range, with the force dice being used to allow you to move as an incidental, saving your maneuver for something else. The attack can be used with force dice for other benefits as well.
Jan 3, 2017 11:56 pm
Krosus, mindful of avoiding the next salvo of blaster fire, turns his attacks toward a more defensive style, barely missing the last of the droids.

CCL, you get two advantage there, ignoring the last purple dice. Remember, add effects to your combat info posts (at the bottom of yours you could add your Triumph boost, making sure to denote it as temporary, labeling it 'Next attack difficulty upgraded from Triumph' or something similar that ensures all of the important info is available.

The Rodians cringe, pressing against the walls, blasting furiously at Hawke, their droid cover no longer providing cover.

Hawke feels a singe and burn on his skin as a blaster bolt finds a crack in his laminate armor.

Rodian 1 Aims and blasts at Hawke. Added setbacks for fear and darkness. Hawke takes 9 - No Reflect (following Reflect conditionals) - Soak 5 = 4 total damage.

Rodian 2 Aims and blasts at Hawke. Added setback for fear and darkness. Miss!

Rolls

Crit Roll for Hawke's Attack on Rodian 1 - (1d100)

(85) = 85

Jan 4, 2017 4:30 am
Coming in low like a juggernaut, Hawke raises the glowing red saber above his head and unleashes it at its zenith, bringing it down in a decisive two-handed hacking motion that cuts the Rodian's arm clean off at the shoulder. His victim howls in pain, high pitched staccato screams filling the night air. Amazingly, he's still conscious, and he flails in a state of shock as he slumps to the ground, trying to pick up his arm, which now lies motionless on the pavement next to the heavy blaster that was once aimed at Hawke.

First off, Hawke causes 6 damage to the Rodian with his lightsaber.

Now for the critical. As Hawke's weapon only requires 1 Advantage to cause crit, he can use the other two advantage, provided by Tajanna's threatenting assist/distraction, to add +10 to the roll per extra advantage. Using the above method for his crit, his final result is 85+20 = 105. This result adds the effect of Maimed Limb to the attack. GM's choice on the limb using RaW, and we'll go with Hawke's call: the arm that would have been used to shoot Hawke was already cut off.

Hawke does not take the damage from the previous attack.

Nice Meribson. You called it. Talk about motivation... you really took care of business on that one. Nice assist Tefmon, couldn't have happened without it.

PC slot 4 is up!

OOC:
I'm assuming that Hawke moving forward to engage the rodians left a place for me to move up to engage the remaining droid.
Finally.

Seeing an opening to use her lightsaber in its intended role, Tajanna rushed forward at the remaining droid, using her momentum to empower a vicious slash with her saber.

Tajanna uses her maneuver to move to Engaged from Short range of the remaining droid, and then uses her action to attack that droid with her lightsaber.

Taking advantage of the opening left by Hawke's advance and dismemberment of the now one-armed Rodian, Tajanna rushed in, the last second deflection of a blaster bolt at point blank range evolving into a singular efficient slash that opened up the droid's chest.

Tajanna's attack hits for 6 + 4(extra successes) - Soak 0 (Lightsaber's Breach penetrates 10 soak) = 10 total damage. Tajanna picks up 1 strain for the Threat (the point blank deflection is an interpretation of this).

We've been forgetting, but CCL, you should be adding a Setback dice (the black one) to all of your checks, as you lack a breath mask. Krosus takes 1 strain as well, for breathing the atrociously garbage Bonadan air.

Jan 4, 2017 3:22 pm
OOC:
Similarly to Drama's thoughts on the matter, I've been digging through three pages of combat moves every time I post, just to make sure I know which enemies are still alive, at what ranges they are at, and who they are currently engaged with. Having a 'combat map' added to the end of one NPC post per round would be very helpful.
Jan 4, 2017 7:26 pm
A joyous, savage grin spread under Hawke's helmet as the rodian screamed and cried. Kicking the fallen blaster aside, Hawke turned his gaze to the last remaining target.

[Perhaps take this one's legs, it doesn't need them to talk.]

Raising his saber in a half-guard stance, Hawke's eyes alit with maniac glee, he brought his crimson blade down to the remaining rodian.
OOC:
As best as I've been able to determine, the rodians are close enough together that Hawke doesn't need to use a maneuver to close in on the last one. If that is wrong, then add in a maneuver to close in. Using the advantage to recover some strain, I suspect that a crit is not necessary to drop the rodian.

In response to Drama's query and Tefmon's interest as well...

Narrow alley, wide enough for two across. At medium range behind you to your right is Shank's, on the corner of an intersection. Ahead to your left is Charitable Charlatan's, at short range, beyond your enemies. Past that, straight ahead, is where the alley empties out into the street where your ECUL is parked.

Fallen droids and miscellaneous droid parts are scattered around the area, but they aren't too much of a problem and you can get past them. Rodian 1 is at Hawke's feet, slumped against the wall, in a state of shock as he seems to be trying to put his arm back on now, having dropped it again after hist initial try. Rodian 2 is still standing, although it's clear that fear and horror are taking hold...
Jan 4, 2017 8:43 pm
Hawke connects with his lightsaber, savoring the violence as he does so, searing a gash in his leg, although not deep enough to bring him down.

Hawke hits for 6 + 4 (extra successes) - Soak 0 (Lightsaber Breach penetrates soak for 10) = 10 total damage. Rodian 2 is badly wounded, but still standing.
Jan 4, 2017 8:45 pm
As far as a combat map, I'm still working at kinks with the rest of you. I'm trying to get in the habit of posting the initiative order at the start of every new round, updated with the number of actual enemies remaining, along with any pertinent info (e.g., maimed status). I missed a round before, but got back in the swing by labeling round 4.

Also, the more proficient we all get at combat mechanics, the less clutter there will be on each page, allowing for a smoother read and less page turning.
Jan 4, 2017 8:52 pm

Clutter like this, which I just remembered.

In the off chance I forget, after the end of every combat, all of you can roll a Simple (no difficulty dice) Cool or Discipline check to recover strain equal to the number of successes you rolled.
Jan 4, 2017 9:01 pm
Lexi reaches out to the hysterical Rodian's arm with the force. The dark side answers her call, but she simply doesn't have the strength to make her will a reality. The arm lifts for a moment, ever so slightly toward her, then falls lifelessly to the ground. It's enough to push the one-armed Rodian over the edge, however, and his hysteria blossoms to all new volumes and fits of unintelligible terror.

To execute the pull fully would have required two dark side points. Given the dice roll and the one dark side point, my interpretation is what you read above.

Adding range to this would be more complicated, as it would be relative, depending on variables such as who, what, etc. Also, adding too much technical info could become cumbersome as well. Jan 4, 2017 9:56 pm
Krosus steps forward with his blade raised in a high guard position, effortlessly bringing the red light of the blade deep into the last standing Rodian's abdomen. He falls to his knees, dead, eyes still filled with shock and awe. Nearby, the one-armed Rodian's shrieking persists, escalating with each unbelievable event unfolding in front of him. His legs are quivering as the shock begins to manifest at a more biological level. No longer reaching for his lifeless arm, perhaps even afraid of it, he looks up at all of you, absolute unmitigated terror flowing from his eyes, an expression of horror, seemingly permanent, all over his face.

FYI, you guys can add your own crit rolls if you like; just use 'Basic' for the dice type and enter '1d100' in the roll box itself. Remember, each additional trigger of crit on the same attack adds +10 to the crit roll (so, for those with lightsabers that crit on 1 Advantage, the options are extensive).

Also, remember, using our simplified home brew dice mechanic, a Triumph can count as 3 Advantage on any dice roll, or be used to cancel out Despair. See this link
from the Library for more info. Given that Krosus could have turned that Triumph into three advantage, he could have triggered the crit 3 times, adding 20 to his roll. I'll take care of it this time, but the further along we get, the more I'll expect you to take advantage for yourselves and put the game mechanics to work.

End results, Krosus gets a 40 for his roll, giving the Rodian a stinger, increasing the difficulty of his next roll by 1. However, Krosus' 8 damage was enough to finish the job, and the Rodian lies dead.

Ultimately, the above is meant to be informative, as I knew the Rodian was dead the moment I saw CCL's roll.

PC 4, you're up, as I'll allow you to take your turn. If you like, we can end combat here, as it seems interrogation is of interest to some in the group, and all that's left is One-Arm.

OOC:
I think combat is pretty much over. I'm fine not taking an additional structured turn.
After the last rodian was dispatched by Krosus's blade, Tajanna de-ignited and sheathed her own blade, and then swooped down to grab the heavy blaster pistol out of the quivering rodian's now-detached limb, checking it for damage.

Good, a weapon with some range. I won't make the mistake of wandering around without one again.

Tajanna stoop up, took a moment to catch her breath, glad that she had the equipment necessary to do so, and then turned to address Krosus and Hawke.

It would sure suck not to have a respirator right now, wouldn't it?

"I trust that the two of you can handle the questioning of our new friend without my assistance."

After excusing herself, Tajanna walked over to the pile of disassembled droids, poking around for an intact droid brain to slice into.

Now, let's see if someone forgot to wipe their droid's memory recently.
OOC:
I'm rolling Discipline to recover Strain after combat, and Computers to attempt to slice a droid brain. If my Computers check is premature, just ignore it. Disappointed at loosing a potential toy, Hawke nonetheless deactivated and hid his lightsaber.

Making his way to the blubbering plaything, Hawke knelt to administer some basic first aid while speaking to the rest of the crew, "May I suggest that someone use the dead Stupid-Rodian's blaster to perforate the corpse while I stabilize our new toy. With civil unrest blaster wounds will draw less attention than cauterised cuts."

Dice Rolls

Codebreaker: Keep in mind that it only downgrades reds to purples. It doesn't decrease difficulty (meaning it doesn't remove purples). Clarifying as this is in contrast to when dice rolls are upgraded, wherein dice are actually added if necessary (e.g., if the difficulty was all Red dice, and then was upgraded, it would add a purple to the pool. Upgrade the same pool and that new purple becomes a red, etc.).

As always, the above is a reminder, with the added benefit of helping those less familiar with the game mechanics to learn them as we go along.

Lastly, for those of you who might take combat lightly, I want to remind you that it only took a roll of 105 (85+20) for Hawke to cut off that Rodian's arm (keep in mind that the if the damage from the attack is 100% mitigated by defenses like Parry, Reflect, Soak, then the crit does not happen, regardless of the roll). The opponents you fight may have weapons and skills similar to yours at any time, and a critical hit can happen any time. Clearly, to get over 100 you need bonuses, but, as seen with Hawke's brutal (and gleeful) dismemberment of One-Arm, it is possible. Limbs can be lost, characteristics can be permanently reduced, death can be around away (roll 141-150) or instantaneous (151+). The right combination of skills and attachments/mods can make an opponent truly terrifying...

How ever much strain you recovered, please make adjustments and post a final combat info at the end of your next post. I'll adjust your character sheets using the new information.

Also, it's good that you rolled for Lexi's cover up efforts Drama. There was no difficulty to the roll itself (a simple check), but if someone investigates the bodies, I can use your dice results to determine how well you covered up the lightsaber wounds.

Tajanna: Slicing droid brains Results: 2 Success

Hawke: Stabilizing One-Arm, the Hysterical Rodian Results: 2 Success, 3 Threat. 3 Threat isn't good; interpretation is in the narrative. The Rodian does, however, recover 2 wounds from your work.

Ezeriah sent a note to Tefmon
Hawke works on the Rodian with his medpac. He's used to doing repairs on machines, and although he is competent with med work, despite a lack of training, the fact of the matter is he doesn't care about the Rodian, at all. His only interest was answers, and he knew that dead things didn't talk.

[Father: Smell that? Let him wallow and gibber away in his own pool of piss and shit. He's not worth your time.]

Distracted by the intrusion for a moment, the only exception to the rule for the dead seemed to be his parents, but he knew that was all in his head. The distraction didn't help, and while Hawke did a decent job on the Rodian for the most part, his presence, as the one who dismembered One-Arm, along with the unintentional (?) scrape against exposed nerve endings, has sent One-Arm into a new state of shock with a piercing scream, followed by strangeness.

One-Arm goes utterly silent, then slowly turns away from Hawke, as far as he can, looking off to his right, cheek pressed up against the wall of the cantina. Then he begins to knock his head into the wall, rhythmically, every few seconds, almost as if it might restore sanity, somehow. With each knock, eyes unblinking and wide open in a vacant stare, monotone words spill out of his mouth in basic:

..."not here." Knock. "not here." Knock. "not here." Knock...

Lexi fills the night air with a dizzying array of blaster shots, putting her aim to use in an effort to 'paint' over saber wounds/damage with bolts from the heavy blaster. Methodically, the six droids and the dead Rodian are taken care of to the best of her ability, and, from what she can tell, she was pretty on the mark, and it would take a keen eye to see through the ruse. A little bit of insight also told her that less skillful investigation might assume that the decapitated droid head was caused by something similar to a vibrosword.

Krosus' attention is suddenly drawn back toward the street, beyond where the ECUL is parked. Shouting. Directing his attention toward the sound, he notices that they seem to have drawn the attention of the Espos who were guarding the station tower. He can see them in the distance, moving out from under the light of the Espos tower, starting to head their way. A couple of them have lit up glow rods. The riots have surely desensitized them a bit to the sounds of blaster fire in the streets and the occasional screams of the dying, but apparently your group has caused a commotion far beyond the norm for the neighborhood, warranting investigation. A powerful glow lamp on the tower comes to life, lighting up the area around the ECUL, sweeping the ground around the entrance to the alley, illuminating a 5 meter diameter area in a bright as day glow.

Krosus passed a Vigilance check to notice the Espos (I always start with the most likely to succeed at a check and work my way down the list; Krosus succeeded right off the bat).

I won't assume you guys are keeping anything unless you specify as much (e.g., the heavy blaster pistols). The light blasters pistols are built into the droids, and would take some time and effort to salvage.

[color="blue"]Lastly, any extra posts last night (Meribson, Drama) were an
awesome way to move things forward, but they don't count for today (not trying to be demanding, just clarifying and making sure the game moves ahead without confusion, everyone taking a turn, which would be especially wise, given the circumstances).

Damn. Lexi thought as she dropped the pistol down her leg, attempting to be quiet about it. Heading into the cantina is a grand idea. If we can look nonchalant about it. Her hood is pulled back up as she quietly tucks the lightsaber back into its hiding place. As for the Rodian, I'm not sure he would talk even if we left him alive. Just our luck.

Tajanna stowed her datapad back away, dropped the droid brain she was fiddling with back into the pile of droid parts, scooped up the remaining respirator, and then shot the still-living rodian once in the head and twice in the chest with her new heavy blaster pistol.

"I'm sure we'll get another chance to interrogate some flunkies soon enough. I doubt that whoever's after us is going to stop sending goons squads anytime soon."

Tajanna then hurriedly followed Krosus and Lexi into the cantina, and flicked her left wrist once to set her holographic costume to display a set of inconspicuous, dark-coloured civilian clothes.

Jan 9, 2017 1:57 pm
The four of you leave behind a wake of death and destruction just outside the cantina, entering Charitable Charlatan's as Espos shouts, still a block or two away, are completely cut off by the cantina doors closing behind you. Uptempo yet relaxed, rhythmically persistent jazz type music comes from a jukebox, part of what you're certain is ownership's attempt at cultivating an extremely relaxed ambience. It's a decent sized cantina, as you immediately notice the dark atmospheric blue lighting precludes you from seeing with any clarity beyond the main room around the bar. While you can see the extent of the room's dimensions for the most part, it is difficult in some cases to tell whether or not anyone is actually occupying space toward the darker edges of the blue light bar room, especially as the booths themselves seem designed for privacy, with exceptionally high-backed seating that would even hide the presence of a tall wookie. Ultimately, the cantina itself seems to be separated into blue subdued illumination in the bar room, and a separate 'dark room' of sorts off to your right, negligibly illuminated by the seeping blue light cast off from the main area by the bar.

As far as you can tell, the booths in the bar room are empty. Faint murmurs of conversation float across the air in subtly varying volumes from the dark room, none of them distinct enough to make out, but enough to know that there are patrons here that you just can't see due to the lighting. An outburst of laughter comes from somewhere far off to your right in the dark room, followed by a burst from a different voice. This is, without a doubt, a cantina designed for those who value privacy and quiet, and, based on the feeling you get, a well-mixed drink. Not necessarily high class, but low key and reserved.

The bar is directly ahead of you opposite the entrance, well lit in contrast to the rest of the cantina, bathed in pale blue light from above. Behind it a bartender droid is at work mixing a drink, as a server droid appears to wait on the order. In addition to the booths in the bar room, there are, of course, a multitude of seats at the bar itself, all of them empty.

The bartender droid looks up from his work, acknowledges you with a nod, and gets back to pouring.

Classy place, maybe we can try some of that Corallian ale we've heard about? Krosus says with a smirk.

One bottle of Corallian ale back home would have run in the hundred of credits, making it the prize of the wealthy lords. Who would have biding wars over a bottle when an unfortunate freighter lost their way.

Krosus is looking for a possible exit out of this place as he moves away from the front door, keeping his hood pulled low over his face. First rule of any engagement is to learn your surroundings and in this case, finding any possible exits out of this place, because those guards will be arriving any minute.

Lexi sat down at the bar, near to the end, as she ran her fingers through her hair and set her elbows down on the bartop itself.

"Asteroid Jammer, short." she said, quietly. I hope he knows how to make the kriffin' drink. Should be light on the alcohol, enough to tinge it with taste and for my breath. Enough synthjuices and flavorants to keep me sober. Maybe. she thought to herself, taking in the bar. If there's a way out of here, we should get in touch with Lissewa and book it. Ideally, we'd get the ECUL back. Sith command won't look highly on us losing something that expensive after a single use. Damn.

While she sat there, brooding over the possible loss of their ECUL, she kept her ears and eyes open, trying to ensure nothing snuck up on her.

Drinking on the job, really?

We really should meet up with Lissi, and then secure the ECUL, both as soon as possible. We can't afford sit around idly at a local bar, sampling local intoxicants.

Tajanna stuck close to Krosus and Hawke, rolling her eyes at Lexi as she went to order a drink from the bartender droid.

"I don't believe you have, Engineer. I'm sure we could find some dealcoholized Corellian ale, just for you, though."

Tajanna scanned the bar, looking for alternate exits, as well as any sign of Lissi and Zhaff's contact. As she was looking around, she discreetly slipped out her datapad and texted a quick message to Lissi's datapad, saying We're at CC's. Where are you situated? Respond quickly, we've picked up some heat.

The bartender droid seems programmed for efficiency, and, as the serving droid walks away from the bar, it mixes Lexi's drink without delay. A splash of this, and a jigger of that, and it's exactly how she ordered it. Apparently to come off as less droid and more sentient, it leans on the bar. "So, I haven't seen you before, human. New to town?" Its mouth remains still while it speaks, rendering the illusion of sentience less than convincing, to say the least. Lexi does, however, notice a warm yellow glow emanating from within the droid's mouth... perhaps an attempt by those who programmed it to convey warmth?

The rest of the group moves through the cantina intrepidly, across the shades of blue mosaic bar room floor into the dark room. The quiet sounds of conversation are subtly drowned out by the jukebox jazz-like beats still floating through the air, discussions kept private by the music itself. Rounding the corner, entering the dark room, your eyes adjust to a darkness partially illuminated by a sudden flood of blue light from a booth in the far right corner, allowing you to see barely enough to understand the purpose of the high-backed booths in this section: they were covered on top and had curtains that could be drawn to allow for additional privacy, each booth essentially being a secluded, quiet room in its own way. From what you can in the shadows, a handful of these very private booths were in such a state of seclusion, curtains drawn, its occupants completely hidden from view.

As your eyes adjust even further, you note that empty booths of varying sizes and seating capacities have their curtains open, dark within, showing available occupancy. From the booth that just opened its curtains on the far wall, a human woman exits, making her way past you to the bar. Another human woman sits within, and closes the curtains partially to maintain a degree of privacy. She's likely waiting for the return of the other. An added benefit of the modicum of light from within her booth is that you can barely discern what looks like a door in the far left corner.
Jan 11, 2017 12:19 am
Two major options: blend in or disappear. Require additional input.

"Should we hide in a booth or vacate the premises?"
Jan 11, 2017 12:35 am
Krosus takes a seat at the bar beside of Lexi, and leans in closer to speak. Have you had any contact with Lissewa yet?
As he awaited a response an idea came to mind and he glanced over at the bar tender nearby. Bar tender, if you were asked by someone who the most recent patronage were that came through that door, what would you tell them?
OOC:
Krosus is trying to determine how much information the droid knows and if they stay at the bar looking for Lissewa, if they could convinve the droid to tell a lie for them. If that fails he will suggest to Hawke about turning the droid off and one of us taking his place until the local authorities could be diverted.

Lexi looked to her side when Krosus sat down. A quick twitch of her head in the negative. How to answer the droid? How connected is he, does he have a line to the Espos, what will they tell the Espos if they ask? Her head hurt with how far sideways it went.

No, friend, not heard from her at all. Was hoping she'd checked in with you. she said quietly, and quickly, before turning back to the bartender droid.

You could say that. Got a call, said go to Bonadan. I load the ship up and take her out. Get here, only to find out the air is a mess, the streets hate me, and I can't even find a place to get a passable piece of commo equipment. Had a short out on the trip in, blew a piece. My engineer has the name but I was never good with that kind of stuff. She said, giving the droid a shrug. Say, is it ok if I duck into one of those booths back there? Need to clear my head and don't want any distractions. She quirked an eyebrow at the bartender as she finished up.

I figure hide out in a booth, get the lay of the land. Normally, standing and fighting would be the way to go, but with a force that large it destroys any chance at mission success. Progenitor help me.

Tajanna stayed standing with Hawke, as Krosus joined Lexi at the bar.

"I think we should find a booth for the time being. We could use a few moments to strategize before we head back out to the warzone outside. And hopefully Gunner is still waiting for us here, or at least not captured or dead."

We can't really afford to lose a single person right now, even one with as questionable combat ability as Lissi.
Jan 11, 2017 3:19 pm
Despite the droid being programmed to seem more sentient as part of its bartender work, it's still a droid. It looks at Krosus, a bit puzzled. "Why, that's an odd question. The answer, however, my good sir, is simple. I would tell them that 4 sentients were the most recent patrons to enter this fine establishment. Three plainly dressed. One of them well armored, with the look of a bounty hunter." A gesture toward Hawke. "One of them a paying customer." He gestures toward Lexi. "An odd question, but one with a simple answer. Care for a drink, sir?"

Beyond the droid's answer, you guys have some decisions to make. Check the Shank's OOC for more, before you post.

Lexi gave a small nod as she downed the remainder of her drink, with a satisfied smack of her lips.

What's the damage, bartender? She asked, cocking her head at the serving droid. Without waiting to hear the reply, she turned to look at Hawke. Who needs a to-go glass? Pound it like a proper man. Let's give it a quick rest, my legs are killin' me here. Snag a booth, get outta the loud. Once the old walkabouts are refreshed, we get back out there looking for that equipment, yeah? Lexi said, as she stared at Hawke, her eyes trying to bore holes into the engineer's.
Jan 12, 2017 12:43 pm
Tajanna followed the rest of the team in grabbing a seat at the bar, sitting down beside Hawke.

"A quick rest at a booth sounds just about right to me."

Tajanna turned to face to bartender droid, and raised her voice slightly to grab its attention.

"Hey, bartender, do ya happen to have a vacant booth we could occupy? We'd be most appreciative of some peace and quiet while we imbibe."

If Lissi has been receiving any of our messages, she should have responded to them. I don't like this situation one bit. A missing teammate, a soon-to-be impounded transport, no way of contacting STRAT-COM or Flesh Walker, assuming he's still living and not defected, and someone who knows we're here and keeps siccing goon squads on us.
Jan 12, 2017 2:57 pm
The bartender droid looks to Tajanna, replying with machine like efficiency. "There are many booths available, of varying sizes and seating capacities. Feel free to choose the one that suits you, although I would advise you that the far left corner of our 'privacy room' is often least desirable, as it is closest to the kitchen." The droid conveys another mechanical warm-glow smile, 'lips' unmoving. It seems 'pleased' with itself, having given out some good bartender advice, as it was programmed to do.

"Once you have chosen a booth, you may, of course, draw the curtains if you like, affording you privacy, a most desirable primary feature of this fine establishment. If you do so, upon leaving, please leave the curtains open as a courtesy to future patrons."
Jan 12, 2017 9:12 pm
Krosus gets up from the bar stool and motions for the others to follow him toward a vacant booth, not too far away from the bar. This one will do.

He has an uneasy feeling about this, but he wants to be close to the bar so that he can hear any conversations, between the bar tender and security guards if they pursue them into the place, which he's almost certain they will. The other thing of concern is what the hell happened to their other crew member.

After sitting down in the booth he closes his eye's and stretches out with the force hoping to get some guidance as to where their missing crew mate might be located. At least what direction and perhaps how far away.

As Lexi sat down in the booth with Krosus, she pulled her com out to check if Lissewa had sent them any further information.

Lissewa's still missing. Hasn't responded to anything, and the Espos are likely swarming our ECUL. Why, in the name of the First Sith, did I leave the vessel. Damn it all Lexi, you know better. We need to establish a plan and that plan should get us up off the streets and out of the eyes of the Espos. she thought to herself quietly, not wanting to say anything until the curtains were drawn.

Closing her eyes, Lexi opened her mind to the Force, seeking out the Darkness she felt so strongly at home. Damn the Jedi for their useless emotionless ways. Damn the Sith High Command for not properly testing our equipment. Damn Flesh Walker for - well - for everything. It's his fault this current mess is plaguing us. She let the frustration, anger, and hatred from their mission's progress flood through her, over her. As she breathed in deeply, she focused on the single burning hatred at the core of it all. Damn you incompetence.
Jan 13, 2017 12:27 pm
Tajanna followed Krosus and Lexi into the booth, sitting down across from Krosus.

"This is better. We should be free to discuss matters a little more plainly here. We need to come up with some sort of plan before running around outside.

Although I doubt an establishment that does business on its reputation for customer privacy would take too many liberties with it, we can never too careful with what we say openly.
OOC:
I've included a Streetwise check to determine how likely this cantina is to be bugging us, or otherwise knowingly endangering our privacy in their booth. I'm not sure if it is appropriate, so if not, just ignore it.

Tajanna draws from her experiences in the Akrultos underworld, and considers what are called 'information brokers'. These individuals generally weave webs of informants, who typically don't even know of one another. They are 'invisible', and you wouldn't know it if you met one.

Knowing that information can be extremely valuable, she wouldn't put it past the cantina's owner to establish means of collecting information, this type of cantina clearly being ideal for doing so, then selling it as an information broker. She also knows it would be pragmatic of such an individual to be completely unconnected to the cantina on record, or at least distanced from it by multiple degrees of separation, not to mention as 'invisible' as possible in general.

With the Advantage from your roll, Tajanna is also pretty sure that the droid won't try to give them up, but will likely be matter of fact and straightforward if it has to deal with the Espos.
Jan 14, 2017 12:27 am
As Hawke slid into the booth, he pulled out a mass of wires and circuit boards to keep his hands busy.

As his eyes surveyed the other crew members, a most unwanted voice piped up, [Fifty credits says that this blows up in your face.]

...you're a voice in my head, even if I was stupid enough to take that bet how the heck would I pay it?
Jan 16, 2017 4:04 pm
Krosus reaches out to the dark side, and it answers, giving direction, orienting his mind toward Lissewa. Moments pass, eyes closed, searching, fueled by a subtle anger derived from a lack of knowing. The dark side opens his eyes.

Ezeriah sent a note to cclrbrts30
Clarification on the information broker concept: I'm not saying Tajanna thinks they are being listened to, just that she understands an information broker would highly prize this establishment as a means of gathering secrets.

I'm assuming that the group has drawn the curtains, but correct me if I'm somehow mistaken.

CCL, as far as hearing the Espos talk to the barteneder, the curtains are thick and help block sound, not to mention the music is designed to obfuscate conversations, and the booths are contained (with ceilings), increasing the privacy level for all patrons. However, if things got loud, that would be different. The group's position in a booth, even if the closest to the bar, would preclude them from knowing if the Espos were even there, unless things got loud.

However, a lot of this would depend on Perception checks, which would be secret, but I'll tell you the difficulty would be 5 purple to try and pickup tidbits of conversation at the bar, and I'll allow that your booth is close enough to try and do so. Opening the curtain a hand's width would reduce the difficulty to 4 purple, but you all know it would increase your visibility, standing out as a beacon in the dark with the light spilling from your booth.

A note: These are estimates on difficulties. If, for example, the Espos were at the bar, and you opened the curtains a bit to listen, the difficulty might be two red, two purple, wherein the red dice represent the potential for a Despair result, from which I might simply interpret that the Espos spotted your booth as 'interesting.'

To help clarify the potential Espos presence: as of now, your characters just sat down in the booth less than a minute ago. To your knowledge, the Espos aren't here yet.
Jan 17, 2017 12:32 am
Krosus opens his eyes from his brief meditation. The force has given me insight into Lissewa’s location. I don’t know what her situation is, but we must hurry if we are to catch up with her. Any idea what our situation is out there? He motions to the drawn curtains with a pivot of his head.

If she is a captive, that could explain her no response to communication. And that will also complicate the matter ten-fold if they get her to where they want.

The lack of the force in giving him more details about the situation angered and frustrated him to the point of almost wanting to smash through the tables and charge head long into whatever confrontation awaited them

He had to take a deep inhale of breath and release it slowly, in order to the slow his pulsing heart rate from the anger. At times like this, the words of lord Krawley came to him as if he had been a young student awaiting his first combat.

A true blade master, Krawley spoke, must first master his emotions, once you have achieved this, then, and only then can you determine the right time to allow the raw fury of the dark side to consume the motions of your blade. Many, too easily fall into the trap of allowing the pure rage to go unchecked. Granted it gives you great strength, but at the cost of recklessness. So do not be the raging Touth hound charging head long into your opponent, but instead be like a hurricane, spinning, spinning, spinning all the time gaining momentum, until at last unleashing your full fury.
Jan 17, 2017 2:17 am
"Not as of this moment, I do not. What can you tell us about our missing minion?"

Finally, something going right. It seems that the Progenitor is blessing me at last on this mission: first no one seemed to notice my break of character and now the spy's location has been found.
Jan 17, 2017 4:13 am
I'm loathe to be too hasty, but leaving her without support is unacceptable. If you know more of where she is, we should go quickly. If the Espos ARE still out there, we'll have to do our best to get out quietly. Perhaps a single person going first? Lexi said as she listened to Krosus explain the results of his peering through the Force.

Once more, crap's gone sideways and there's nothing we can easily do about it. I don't want to deal with these Espos. We never should have split up. Stupid tactic, you should know better Lexi.

Regardless of what we do about our friend, what is our next step beyond that? Clearly everything is sideways. Per the pawn broker, those two groups that were in the landing bay don't normally fight. But great lengths were taken to make it look like they did just that. With that kind of pull, what kind of a threat do we think we're really dealing with? Lexi spoke quietly, and quickly, looking to get some more concrete plans in place before they launched into another damn fool conflict.
Jan 17, 2017 12:51 pm
Tajanna sat upright, jolted out of her lounging by Krosus's sudden news.

Finally, something goes right for once. We shouldn't have split up like this in the first place, but we fortuitously now have a chance to un-split up.

"Is Lissi's location within walking distance, or do we need to do something about our transportation situation first?"

Resecuring the ECUL won't likely be easy, but not having it will just make the rest of this mission that much harder. I wonder what the Espos will do with it, as well as how much effort they'll put into investigating, by what all accounts, appears to be a simple gang brawl that got out of hand.

Tajanna then turned to contribute to Lexi's ruminations about their foe.

"And they also knew where our landing platform was. I would be surprised if we weren't dealing with a defection here."

The lack of any information about the situation other than Krosus's vision is worrying. Although I doubt that his vision was inaccurate, given his strong connection to the Dark Side of the Force, it also doesn't give us any information other than our destination. Maybe the Dark Side will deign to give me some useful visions as well.
OOC:
Tajanna decommits her Force die from Sense: Upgrade Difficulty (as we're not in structured time, I assume I can do this essentially at-will), and then attempt to use the Foresee power to gain hints of events to come.

Also, if relevant, Tajanna will attempt a Knowledge: Underworld (Or other Knowledge check, such as Education or Warfare, if Underworld isn't appropriate to the information she seeks. In that case, ignore the removed Setback from Street Smarts.) to determine how the Espos are likely to act in response to the killing spree outside (Such as how much further they will search for suspects, and what they will do with the suspicious hovervan parked nearby).

Tajanna pushes the cantina out of her mind, turning her attention toward what might be. The force permeates her very being, helped along by her obsessive nature, drowning the sights and sounds of Charitable Charlatan's in the depths of the Dark Side.

Ezeriah sent a note to Tefmon
Tajanna returns from her vision, eyes fluttering. The cantina seems to be undisturbed, a web of voices that can't be heard over music undoubtedly intended to make it so.

Tajanna has no idea how the Espos might act in response to the carnage outside of Charitable Charlatan's. More on Knowledge checks in the OOC.

We may have to abandon the transport for know. We just don’t have the time to deal with the local authorities and rescue our crew mate, if indeed she needs rescuing. For her sake let us hope that her life is in jeopardy. From the vision, we must head back toward the Espos station. I have a feeling that if we were to ask the bartender about alternate exit routes out of here, we might find ourselves being able to avoid any encounters with the local authorities. Even if it cost us a few creds. It would be worth it.

"Of course we do, why did I expect anything different?"

[Perhaps the twi'lek found her true calling using her body in exchange for security. Someone was tipped off that we were coming.]

Hawke froze for a moment as he considered the possibility. From what he knew of her file she was a slave before being brought into Intelligence, if she resented her time as a slave strongly enough...

Need more data, one way or another we'll bring her back, either intact or in pieces.
Jan 18, 2017 4:58 am
Perhaps before abandoning it we make our exit and recon slightly. Those above us will. It look too kindly on needless waste of good material. If it is still covered, we can leave it. Lexi said as she looked at her comrades' faces. But I will follow those of you with a closer connection here. It is better than walking blindly.
Jan 18, 2017 12:33 pm
"I agree with Lexi. Unless the place is swarming with Espos, we might as well check on the ECUL's condition before running off."

Tajanna paused for a second to gather her thoughts, then again addressed her teammates.

"By the way, do any of you have any experience dealing with giant war droids? I have a hunch."

Hopefully events turn out better than they did in my vision, now that we have forewarning enough to make proper preparations.

Krosus opens the curtain just enough to look out toward the bar room. Everything seems the same as when they entered the booth minutes ago. The 'dark room' is still dark, and the main bar room is still bathed in pale blue light. There are no signs of an Espos presence. Just as he is about to let the curtain close, the server droid appears from his periphery, stopping at your booth.

"Welcome to Charitable Charlatan's! Haven't seen you here before. Welcome, welcome, welcome!" It has a woman's voice, and the 'personality' is clearly a more exuberant kind, likely intended to be the excitable contrast to the bartender droid's more laid back 'cool guy' program. 'She' leans down, and peeks through the curtain, addressing all of you. "Just so you know, you can call for service anytime by just leaving your curtain open. Even a little crack of blue coming from your booth will have me..." She looks down at her wheels. "Well, it will have me come rolling, to serve your beverage consumption needs!" It spun once, its mechanical yet female laugh contriving artificial amusement, showing some pizazz. "So what'll it be? Kraspen Death Wind? Bonadan Wrecker? Or maybe some Corellian brandy? You know," she shows you her left arm, a dispenser half full, "we've got deathsticks too, if that's your thing."

Her eyes light up a bit more in anticipation, accompanied by an orange glow smile, almost exactly like the bartender's.
Jan 18, 2017 4:14 pm
I agree we shouldn't leave the transport behind. Server droid, what other alternate routes out of this cantina exsist?

While awaiting a response from the droid, he glances back at the group. If everyone is in agreement we will do a quick assement of the ecul from a distances. Hopefully the espos are paying it no mind. It's imperative that we stick together, what ever is happening on this planet we appear to be trapped in the middle of and I hate being the bug stuck in the web. Instead of being the spider. Whoever betrayed us, will soon know the error of crossing us.
Jan 19, 2017 4:44 am
Lexi sat, awaiting the servodroid's response to Krosus' question.

For once, since we left, I think we're in total agreement. We have to tread a delicate line here however. We must revel in our shared power, but we must remain vigilant for a way to move forward. Lexi said, even as her mind began to turn slowly. Progenitor damn it all, why is he prattling on about betrayal and such in front of the droid? They may be known for security but we were supposed to have a clean landing and an easy meet up. Things aren't normal.

"Its a shame our toy broke before we came here, we could have had so much fun with it on the ship."

Information and something to practice implanting cybernetics into, it would have been perfect!
Jan 19, 2017 12:36 pm
And everyone was sassing me earlier about lax operational security. We probably should dismantle this droid, if it was feasible in our current situation.

"I think that your 'toy' breaking is the least of our problems right now, Engineer. We need to get moving."

Tajanna got up from her seat, waiting for the rest of the team to be ready to move out.
Jan 19, 2017 2:17 pm
The server droid's eyes flicker as it listens to the lot of you, dim to bright, dim to brighter, paying particular attention to Krosus as he speaks. It allows Tajanna a wide berth as she gets up and quickly steps out of the way, as if Tajanna herself was inherently a threat by her mere presence. It points to the door in the far left corner, the one you saw previously when you first entered the dark room.

"That door," 'she' says to Krosus, sounding surprisingly nervous, almost sentient, "is the only other exit, through the kitchen." It shifts momentary glances, rapdily switching between everyone at the table, eyes flickering again, then widely bright. "It's not for our patrons," it backs further away from the table, "but...I don't see any harm in your using it? I...I'll just walk away now. Undoubtedly, there are patrons in need of refreshment. Booths that need resetting. Good evening." With that it backs away then spins around, moving into the blue lit bar room toward the bar, a little faster than what you saw when you first came in.
Jan 19, 2017 7:03 pm
let's go.. Krosus says exiting the booth and heading toward the kitchen. Be alert.. With that said he lowers his hands to be in a better position to draw his lightsaber if needed.

At the door to the kitchen he cracks it slightly and peers in to get a lay of the situation before proceeding.

Hopefully the kitchen is ran by droids as well.

Switching his helmet commlink to send out his message in text, Hawke links it to Tajanna's datapad before whispering his message: "Bet a week of cleaning the ship's refresher that we get into trouble by the time we get back there."

[Seriously? What are you twelve?]

It's in character.
Jan 21, 2017 12:12 pm
Tajanna followed Krosus towards the kitchen, eyes alert and hands ready, when she felt her datapad buzzing softly. While still walking, Tajanna took out her datapad, skimmed Hawke's message, and typed out a short reply before sliding her datapad back away.

Given the way things have been going lately, that doesn't seem like an overly fair bet. And we are on a mission right now, we can gamble once we get back to the ship.

How odd. I didn't think that Hawke was the gambling type, not the idly chit-chatting while on duty type. You can't judge a holovid by it's trailer, I guess.
Jan 21, 2017 4:11 pm
CCL, you can't 'crack' the door. Most are automatic, or have a keypad, like this one, and slide open.
Jan 23, 2017 2:52 pm
We'll assume Lexi is going with the group.

The door opens, revealing a very basic and small kitchen of sorts, occupied by a lone chef droid who looks up at you, then returns to its mixing and chopping. Another door, closed, is on the opposite side of the kitchen from where you just entered. Not feeling particualrly threatened by the chef droid, you move through the kitchen and tap the keypad to open it, eager to avoid a potential confrontation with any Espos who might come into the cantina to investigate.

You stand in the doorway, the cantina's back door, which exits out into another dark alley, as narrow and poorly illuminated as the one fronting Charitable Charlatan's. You gag, almost tasting the foul air, and immediately put on your breath masks, reminded of Bonadan's extreme pollution by the horrid smell that assails your senses. Looking to the right, there's just enough light so you can see that the alley dead ends about a block down, whereas off to your left it passes through what seems to be a 4-way intersection less than a block away, then continues on, toward a still shadowy yet more well lit alley.

Directly ahead from where you stand is another door with a keypad, although it's difficult to tell what might be inside as all of the buildings are connected for the most part, whether they're residential or business oriented. There's no glow-light sign, or any sign that you can see that would suggest it is a business.

To help you guys with orientation, the entrance to the Charitable Charlatan's is on the opposite side of the building relative to the cantina's back door. If there was no dead end to your right, that would generally lead back toward the ECUL. In fact, that dead end is literally part of the building that would be on the street where your ECUL is parked.

If you exited from the kitchen toward the intersection to your left, then took two lefts, you would then be looking down the alley past Shank's, Charitable Charlatan's, and a pile of droid parts near a pair of dead Rodians. Beyond that would be the street where your ECUL is parked, past that the Espos Tower Station, where the Espos were coming from to investigate your alley fight.
Jan 23, 2017 10:06 pm
Looks like we have a couple of options, though I’m not too thrilled with going toward the front side of the cantina. I say we head toward the four way intersection and go to the right. Hopefully we can circle back around to the ECUL from that way.

Krosus, keeping an eye out for any potential setbacks proceeds to the four way intersection and evaluates the options from there.

Now more than ever he is convinced that Lissewa was a traitor in their midst, which explained the missing components to the holoterminal, also why she was so eager to split from the group as soon as possible. Granted, there could be a larger picture here in this betrayal. He would have to ponder this further. The only regret in this was the fact that as soon as they had learned about the missing components on the holoterminal he should have locked down the ship and investigated. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

If we can’t catch her, he remarks to those around him. We may have to go into hiding.

I agree, on all fronts. Let's stay to the side. If there is an opening to get to the ECUL, we'll take it. Push come to shove, if I can get to it, I'll get it back to the ship if you can draw attention away from it.

Of course, the socially graceless psychopath who wears battle armour while stroll around town complains about being too conspicuous.

"Sounds like we have a plan; let's move out. And maybe, Engineer, you could try not walking around in battle armour all the time? It would do wonders for your inconspicuity."

Tajanna starts cautiously heading up towards the intersection, keeping to the shadows, staying alert for any additional complications to emerge.
Jan 24, 2017 3:36 pm
The four of you cautiously approach the intersection, mindful of the Espos presence nearby. As you near the corner, Krosus, in front, barely hears the sound of footsteps down the alley off to the left, and motions the group to a stop. A glow light beam, coming from the same direction, suddenly sweeps past the intersection in front of you, close enough for Krosus to reach out and 'touch'.

Just then you hear a plasteel banging sound, followed by some grunting and the spill of -bottles?- onto the ground. "Heyyy-ay!" A gravelly, angry, clearly intoxicated voice yells. "Hey brown pants!" The glow light sweeps back from where it came, leaving the intersection dark in front of you again. A different voice, nearer, mutters, just loud enough for you to hear. "I'm so sick of this dung. Damn homeless bums. Worse than the air." The nearer voice increases in volume, asserting a professional, authoritative tone. Sounds like some type of security or police. Surely it's one of the Espos.

The gravelly voice of the homeless is accusatory now, pressing. "Whatcha doin' by m' home? Huh? 'at's m'home. Ya' boys 'n brown.. ya' in yer brown outfits. Ain' welcome here."

The Espo replies. "I suggest you go back inside 'your home'. Espos business."

"You're in m'yard!"

A sigh from the Espo. "Really? Your yard? It's an alley. Just go b-"

"You're in m'yard" You hear a bottle shatter against something. A wall or the ground? "You're in m'yard brown'spo!!"

"Look, moving the back seat of a--" The Espo talks over the homeless man.

"M'yard!"

"--a speeder into an dump of an alley doesn't--"

"M'yard! M'yard!"

"--make it your--"

"It's m'yard! Home!"

"--home or yard!" The Espo, exasperated, finally finishes. "Dammit!"

The homeless man explodes into a screaming rage. "It's M'HOME!!! AAARRRRHHHH! M'HOME YA 'DUNGHOLE BROWN'SPO!!" His screaming seems like it won't be letting up anytime soon.

The above homeless man is provided courtesy of Krosus' 4 Advantage on an excellent Vigilance roll. Also, only one of you alluded to using Stealth (use placeholder rolls to make it clear!), surprisingly, but luckily the Espo failed his Perception roll against difficulty two purple & one setback while actively searching for you (the purple for the weakest Stealth in the group- Hawke/Krosus, the setback because you were around the corner). I assumed you were being Stealthy and applied your skills, but will not always do so (again, placeholder rolls to indicate using a skill!). I don't mention every roll I make in secret, but, as always, I may occasionally give you some insight so you can understand how the mechanics of the game are working out. It's my way of making sure you know that the skills matter.

Also, in the future, in Stealth type situations, you may want to have your best go first, if they're willing. If they are at least ahead of the rest of the group by Short range (6m/18 ft) then they can serve as scouts, depending on the situation and where threats might lurk. Mechanically, this means they will often serve as the group's Stealth roll, again, this depends on variables, but will typically be your best bet (e.g., going to look around a corner). Having the group trail at Short range also saves us from redundant 'so and so' scouts ahead posts. If you want to work out a scouting setup, go ahead and do so via the Shank's OOC. I'll assume that order from now on, unless things are obviously not so, or you inform me otherwise.

Additionally, two people can work together in Stealth efforts, using the 'skilled assistance' rules to pair up for greater success. Those two characters would combine the best of their characteristics and skill ranks to form one skill check roll for Stealth, moving in tandem. In sum, you'd want to have the highest Agility character working with the one that has the most skill ranks in Stealth.

Also, FYI, the Espos, as Zhaff might have mentioned, are commonly referred to as the 'Boys in Brown', due to the uniforms.
Jan 24, 2017 11:17 pm
Krosus motions to the group to start backing away quietly. As the commotion from the nearby alley intensifies. When Krosus thinks he’s moved far enough away from the Espos he whispers to the group.

I think we should try to go through that other door, hopefully we can hack it. The rest of us should try to stay hidden. If we are discovered, let them move deeper into the alley before springing an attack on them. We need to stay close to each other as well, if we have to run less chance of anyone getting split from the group. Right now we are the only ones we can count on, on this planet.

You all move away from the intersection and the continuing commotion between the vagrant, who is still screaming at and berating the Espo for intruding upon his 'home'. Retracing your steps, you quietly make your way back to the door on the opposite side of the alley from Charitable Charlatan's back door. There are no signs or windows to indicate what might be beyond the door, but there is a keypad next to it on the wall.

At this point the conflict between the homeless man and the Espo continues, but seems to have died down a bit and become more civil, with the vagrant now simply making his case rather loudly, instead of screaming at the Espo.
Jan 25, 2017 9:04 pm
Krosus still whispering speaks out to the others while looking at the keypad. What do you think, can it be hacked easily or should we cut our way in?

Hopefully this building is some kind of residential apartments, instead of any kind of business. It would be easier to disappear in a residential, just in case the Espos happened upon us. After all it should take no time to get through that door.

"While my specialty is hardware rather than software, I will give this a try," Hawke muttered as he pushed past the chiss to kneel in front of the keypad so as to take a closer look.

When I get my hands on the twi'lek that ratted us out I am going to see how many replacements she can take before her organs give out. My guess is...two. Perhaps I should see how long she remains conscious while I work, it would be a suitable start to her punishment before High Command takes her.

Hopefully we can resolve this without leaving gaping lightsaber cuts in the local infrastructure. We've been inconspicuous enough as it is, we don't need to start leaving even more evidence for our adversaries to find.

Lexi moved to the side, to let the other Sith take their crack at the door. She planted her back against the wall and began sweeping her eyes around the area, alert to any new threats. Her hand sat lightly on her lightsaber hilt, ready to deploy it at a moment's notice.

As Lexi keeps an eye toward the intersection near the Espo and the vagrant, her eyes are drawn to something lying on the ground. Kneeling down to get a closer look, she determines that it is a stimpack. Upon closer examination, she also notices that it's clean, and not covered with the usual layer of grime one would expect in a neighborhood like this, especially on such a heavily polluted planet.

Just as Tajanna is about to add her two creds to Hawke's attempt to slice the keypad, he finally manages to overcome his lack of training with computers and more subtle electronics, bending it to his technological will. The door slides open with an audible hiss, followed by a thunk as it completes the process of opening. Comlicating your efforts to remain undetected was that right before the door thunked, there was a break in the Espo/Vagrant argument around the corner.

Silence for a moment in time, then you hear the Espo. "Who's back there?" After that you hear the Espo's voice lower, from which you can make out "might have --------- ov-- here. Req------- ----up." The glowlight shines across the intersection again, then starts to creep forward, bouncing slightly with what you assume are the Espo's footsteps toward the intersection.

The vagrant gets a final shout in. "That's right brown-spo! Git outta m'home! GIT!"

Peering into the building, it's pitch black, the minimal light from the alley suggests it's an open space inside, rather than a hallway.

Ezeriah sent a note to Tefmon
Flipped a destiny token there to have the break in the argument and the Espo hear the door open.

None of you have glow rods with you, so in this case I'll allow that Hawke can see well enough to navigate very slowly (helmet scanner allowing a slight improvement using the faint light from the alley, although not allowing full on nightvision like scanner goggles do, but the ability to see about 3 meters in front of you; given the creds and parts/time, Hawke could upgrade this), while Tajanna could navigate at normal speed (Chiss nightvision). I'd also allow for lightsabers to provide about 3 meters of illumination.

Excellent work, Krosus says quickly swooping through the door and almost tripping over the body on the dark floor.Karabast!

Every place we go on this planet there is some kind of body laying in their wake. Wonder who it is now? If he had to guess it was probably the alien they kept alive after first arriving.

Bending down and igniting his blade so he could get a better look at who or what had almost made him look undignified.

What's this?

Hawke began to make his way towards the human, before stopping. They didn't have time to examine random bodies that may or may not be dead. They needed to leave. With a sigh, Hawke reached up to his helmet and activated the sensor suite within. His view of the warehouse became grayscale as lowlight amplification was activated, while all sources of heat in the immediate area were outlined in red.

Hawke's scanner doesn't have nightvision. It's more like a lowlight amplifier that would shift his vision into a grayscale of sorts (it only removes one setback dice for checks, whereas true nightvision would eliminate all setback dice for such checks). It does have the thermal vision, however.

Tajanna briefly glanced at the motionless body, quickly checking for any obvious signs of potentially valuable salvage or enemy insignia.

The others seem to have investigating the body handled. Although we really don't have time to linger.

"There's a door over on the other side. We'd best get moving."

Krosus, in the red glow of your lightsaber, it isn't difficult to determine that the man is very, very dead. Upon closer inspection, the only real question is how he was killed. Parts of his head seem extremely swollen with pulpy, splitting skin, the kind of damage you've seen in the past inflicted by severe blunt trauma, whereas you also discern that there is blaster scoring on his neck and forehead, from what appears to be two or three shots.

From what Krosus and Tajanna can tell, this corpse has been thoroughly picked over, as there is not a single credit or bit of gear to be found, save for the man's dark colored, casual attire. There are no markings on his clothes or skin that would indicate any insignia or organizational affiliation of any kind.

As Lexi moves stealthily toward the opposite door, she doesn't hear anything from outside as the door behind her cut off the vagrant and any other external sounds as soon as it was closed.

Drama, you can have that stimpack from outside if you like. I wasn't suggesting that you couldn't take it, just stating that you hadn't. We can always assume you took it if you like, just let me know.

Lexi stood near the door, waiting for the go ahead. Quietly, she spoke to the assembled group. "As soon as we are ready, I will slip out and see if we can make our way to the ECUL quietly. If I can get there, I will get it wheeled back here and you can jump in on the fly. Unless we all want to try making it there without drawing attention." Her voice, barely over a whisper.

Tajanna stood just beside the door, waiting with the rest of the team for Hawke to finish slicing it open.

"Sounds like a plan. We'll be ready to back you up, if need be."

Tajanna replied quickly and quietly to Lexi's proposal, eager to ensure that neither Hawke nor Krosus had time to suggest that they advance first instead.

If Lexi can manage to secure the ECUL, then we should just have to follow Krosus's directions to Lissi's location, pick her up, and head back to the hanger to regroup. Unless someone's waiting just outside this door, of course...

It takes some time, but Hawke manages to slice the keypad. The door grates open, and once again you can hear the sounds of the Kraspen night: a buzzing siren fades in the distance, the sound of distant blaster fire coming to an abrupt end, all reminding you how desperate abd chaotic life is in the city, which, according to Zhaff, are a result of the labor riots.

Looking out the newly opened door, you see something like an alley, except wider, with enough room for one-way speeder traffic. To the left the street comes to an end then narrows into a foot traffic only type alley, much like the one that you first used to enter this neighborhood after parking your ECUL. To the right, the street continues and then widens about a block down to what passes for a normal street, wide enough for two-way speeder traffic totaling 4 lanes, much like near the Espos Station Tower. Three blocks after that is another intersection.

As you look to your right down the street, your directional sense tells you that you'd want to stay to your right (1st right at the intersection, then another right would take you past the Espos Tower and toward where your ECUL is parked on the same street). Before that, if possible, moving through a side alley or the first building on your right would likely lead to right about where your ECUL is parked, which, as a reminder, is at the end of the street a couple of blocks from the Espos Tower, just outside the alley entrance that leads to Charitable Charlatan's, past which is Shank's.

To give a bit more direction sense with easier terms, let's say that looking straight out the newly opened door across the street I just described is West. Directly behind you, to the East through the warehouse you're currently in, is the back door to Charitable Charlatan's. To the North would be the Kraspen Spaceport, to the South the street narrows into a foot traffic alley neighborhood again. If you could phase throough walls, your ECUL is just over a block Northeast of where you are. About 3 blocks North of your ECUL is the Espos Tower, on the same street as your ECUL. Charitable Charlatan's is 1/2 block South of your ECUL, in a foot traffic neighborhood, with Shank's being a 1/2 block past Charitable Charlatan's.

As your merciless GM, I suggest you consider the situation and potential outcomes before advancing. You may want to take a moment to talk things through, even posting a couple of times today before making a decision to advance (remember, I've said before that talking doesn't count as an action, except in very special circumstances. Also, keep in mind that I try to make our game world more on the believable/realistic side, as part of the challenge. Your group taking a few moments to talk isn't going to pass a lot of time in the game, and could be beneficial.

Just a reminder to be careful, as I know some of you may have played in games where you can't screw up via coddling GM's. I'll say this: there are Espos out there, as you know, behaving and acting much like any police force would.

It's still early in the game so I'm keen on helping you guys adjust to my merciless ways. Eventually, however, you'll be on your own.
Jan 31, 2017 3:31 pm
Lexi pulled her head back, gesturing to the others to fall back from the door a bit.

Looks like a back entrance of sorts. Narrow path left, down to foot-traffic only. If we head right, it gets substantially wider, out to the big 4-lane speeder road, kind of like the Espos tower area. We'd probably need to make two right hand turns to get back to the ECUL. However, it puts us right back by the Espos tower, which is a unique danger in its own right. What's the best course of action to preserve us and give us a chance to re-unite with Lissewa? Lexi finished, eyes still flitting between the open door and the door they just came from.

Getting picked up by the Espos as possible suspects in a crime of some sort isn't something I would want to deal with. At all. Better to be on the ship than that.
Jan 31, 2017 4:50 pm
You can, of course, close the door while you talk, if you like. Or leave it open, so you can hear and see what's going on outside, while you stay to the sides, out of sight. Both have positive and negative value, depending, but the point here is that I do keep it in mind.

Regarding your options, remember what I said about stealth before: if your Stealth party members are at least Short range (about 7 meters or 20 feet) ahead of the rest of the group (who are, of course, also using stealth), they can serve as your scouts and help to insulate the group from surprises and ambush, using their stealth to maintain the element of surprise and secrecy. However, keep in mind that there are threats your scouts themselves might not see, and those threats might also fail to spot your scouts. However, the less sneaky types in the group might still be spotted.

Ultimately, much like a real military outfit, the scouts do help serve to insulate the party from being detected, allowing those better looks around the corner, over the ridge, out the window, etc.
Jan 31, 2017 11:03 pm
I recommend that we make straight for Lissewa location and access that situation first. The Ecul is important but it may not be wise to approach it with so much activity. Of course I will follow whatever the group decides. I will however use the force again to determine her location, so we can make the most updated decision.

Krosus pauses, with a mindful stare into the darkness. . If it is discovered that we cannot reach her, we should consider finding a place to lie low, disappear off any ones grid for the time being, just a suggestion of course.

Krosus closes his eyes and seeks out the traitor through the force. Where are you now, my prey?

I agree, Lexi should advance ahead of us, and then signal us to follow or not. Once we determine the feasibility of retrieving the ECUL, we can decide whether to abandon it or not."

It's unlikely that Lissi will be any easier to reach than the ECUL is. We'll be skulking around, avoiding Espos patrols either way. The difference is that a getaway vehicle will undoubtedly help us retrieve Lissi, while Lissi would be if only questionable help in retrieving the ECUL.

Lexi advances under cover of darkness, avoiding the occasional illuminated areas created by overhanging street lights jutting out from buildings. Fortunately, this part of Kraspen, despite the occasional outburst of noise that breaks the constant din of distant chaos, is quiet and still, likely a result of it being the middle of the night and the general desire of law abiding citizens to stay say off of the streets. That, and of course, you're only a few blocks from an Espos Station, which tends to reduce the crime rate in the immediate neighborhood. She makes it to the end of the street without difficulty, and disappears from the rest of the group's view as she rounds the corner to her right.

Everyone remember to use the 'Note' feature here for what we're assuming is a short term temporary split. Drama's should be addressed only to me. CCL, Meribson, and Tefmon should address their notes to the rest of the party in this thread and me (not Drama, of course).

To use Notes, simply click on the 'Note' icon and address your note to the correct individuals, separating the names by commas. To address the larger group, for example, it would simply look like this: cclrbrts30,Tefmon,Meribson,Ezeriah (If you like, just copy and paste those user names for when the link request who you want to send the Note to).

Starting up the ECUL, lights off, Lexi is momentarily surprised that the Espos by the door to Charitable Charlatan's don't hear the subtle hum of the speeder coming to life as it pushes against the ground with its thrusters. Then her eyes look down the alley, then upward, and she realizes that the thrusters for the air speeder hovering above Charitable Charlatan's are acting as a convenient cover for the ECUL's thrusters. Carefully, she backs out into the darkness a ways, then turns the speeder around, ready for hot pursuit.

Creeping along, Lexi manages to steer the vehicle down the darkened street. Slowly, carefully, navigating ever so methodically through the dark spaces. As she approaches the Espos Tower, still over a block away, one of the Espos heads inside, while the other isn't even facing her direction. It seems like he is on a comlink, but he's smoking a deathstick and appears to be laughing heartily. A personal call, perhaps? Regardless, it would seem the two guards are neglecting their duties.

The Progenitor must be watching over her, and it would seem the Dark Side itself is riding shotgun.

The rest of you reach the intersection to the north, and stick to the corner on the right side of the street, maintaining low visibility. Looking back, you see that the glow rod beams are now coming from the alley where you had been hiding less than a minute ago, about 40 meters away; nothing would indicate an awareness as to your current location on the corner. Your escape was timely, to be sure.

Just as you begin to wonder where the hell Lexi is, watchful, you make out your ECUL coming toward you silently from down the street to the east. It slithers up to the curb next to you, oh so slowly, slower than walking speed, in an effort to keep the hover thrusters inaudible. It comes to a stop, and the rear cargo door pops open, right in front of you.

The invitation is an obvious one: Get in.

Lexi's Piloting skills really paid off here, and I treated her attempt to stealth Pilot the ECUL oh so slowly down the street, lights off, weaving between streetlight glow and such, as a Stealth check, using Piloting. She knocked it out of the park, generating 4 Advantage against my secret check for the Espos. The guards shirking their duties is my interpretation of the 4 Advantage, which was as good as any Triumph.

As always, just cluing you into the mechanics. I'll stop eventually, once I feel like everyone has a solid footing in the game.

Everyone together now, done with Notes.
Feb 9, 2017 3:47 pm
Lexi sat in the pilot's seat, her chest heaving as she let out a breath she wasn't aware she'd been holding. Progenitor, thank you. The Darkness embraces me even as I reach out to it. She stretched slightly, feeling the exhilaration of careful pilotage start to abate.

As she stretched, she caught sight of the small bracelet on her left arm. Akrultos damn it all, am I really that stupid?! Lissa has a transponder on her! I could at least try for a scan in this area, see if I can find her that way. I'll wait til we're a bit away from here, possibly back at the Spear. We could use the heavier scanners there. Not sure if these Espos have a level of scan detection or anything like that. May as well see what the others think when they get aboard.
Feb 9, 2017 11:07 pm
The dark side is with us.Krosus says after taking a seat.

Finding Lissa shouldn't be a problem now, especially if we all stick together. Can't allow anyone to stray off on there own again; espacilly since he doesn't know who he can truly trust. Since Lissa betrayed them, no telling who else might as be involved. Not again, stay vigilant and alert. The only thing to do now is to keep a watch out the windows and see if he can catch sight of the traitor.

As Lexi pulled to a stop and opened the ECUL's cargo door, Tajanna quickly jumped in, and slid up to the front passenger seat.

"While we were seperated, I remembered that Lissi had a transponder. With any luck, I should be able to zero in on it with the ECUL's sensors."

Things seem to finally be going out way. Now we should be able to find out what Lissi's been up to while we've been scuffling with local law enforcement.

Tajanna typed in Lissi's transponder frequency into one of the ECUL's control panels, and started scanning nearby regions of the city.
OOC:
I'm assuming that the ECUL's front passenger seat has access to the ECUL's sensors. If not, I guess Tajanna is just reaching over to Lexi's console.

...how did I forget about the transponder?

Hopping into the ECLU, Hawke resisted the urge to palm his face as he asked, Does anyone else feel like touching a live wire for forgetting about something so simple?

Taking a seat, Hawke's head was filled with mocking laughter.

[Of all the things for you to miss, to forget, it's something so simple? Here I was thinking you were a big, badass sith, and instead the truth is revealed: you so-called greatest tool isn't so great afterall.]
Feb 11, 2017 3:04 pm
Tajanna momentarily looked up from the ECUL's control console, and turned her head back to respond to Hawke's rhetorical question.

"Not particularly, engineer. Momentary lapses of efficiency necessitate a redoubling of effort, not self-flagellation."

Although if you want to electrocute yourself, go right ahead. It might reset your brain's desire to go clanking around in armour while undercover.

Just before Tajanna returned to monitoring the console, she remembered about the team's other method of locating Lissi.

"Oh, and Krosus, do you still have Lissi's rough location? Just in case this transponder thing doesn't work properly."
Feb 13, 2017 9:26 pm
Technology can be fooled. I will put my faith in the dark side to guide us. And to answer your questio, yes I can still sense her in the direction as described before.

I want to shout out traitor, but it has become apparent that the entire group has not come to that conclusion yet. They will though, all the pieces fit, he just has to convince the others, provided that none of the others are part of the conspiracy as well.

Once we find Lissa, perhaps we should devote some time to acquiring Hawke a new look? No disrespect, but you do stick out engineer.
Feb 14, 2017 3:29 am
I was just thinking the same thing Tajanna. I just realized I'd forgotten her transponder as well. My thought was to get a bit away from the Espos before keying it on, but so long as you're doing it I can still get us around as needed. Either the scan or Krosus, please tell me which direction to head so I can get us there. Lexi said, eyes flicking about the immediate area as she takes the ECUL away from the Espos tower enough to avoid raising suspicion from any observers.

Once we have our fellow shipmate back, hopefully alive, we need a plan. What is that plan?

We need to get back to work subverting our target. We have a mission, we need to complete it. Period.
Feb 14, 2017 12:58 pm
"My recommendation is to head back to our hanger next, unless something urgent pops up. We have some intelligence to disseminate amongst ourselves, some longer-term planning to do, and I'd personally like to make sure our ride offworld is still where we left it."

Tajanna stopped fiddling with the ECUL's sensor controls, letting the sensors scan around the city for Lissi's transponder signature, and leaned back in her seat and turned her focus towards her internal ruminations on the state of their mission.

With all that's gone wrong, it's a testament to our ability and training that we're all still alive and functioning (with the possible exception of Lissi), and still in a position to continue working on our mission. I wonder if the other Special Operations advance teams are moving along as smoothly as we are? It wouldn't bode well for the overall success of our Site Empire's conquest if the levels of disorganization and lack of foresight that went into planning our mission was endemic amongst STRAT-COM.

That makes perfect sense. As soon as we can get Lissi, we'll make our way back to the ship.

Plus, if we're back on board the Spear, we can always ghost the entire operation if it looks like failure is imminent. I'd rather NOT leave the planet with our work not performed, but at this point we have less than zero information it feels like. Plus a team member out of contact.
Feb 16, 2017 2:49 pm
Lexi drives the ECUL nonchalantly away from the area, in an effort to maintain a low profile. For now, she takes the group toward the spaceport, which was the general direction the Dark Side had most recently revealed to Krosus regarding Lissewa's location.

After you get a few blocks away from the Espos Tower neighborhood, none of you notice anyone following you, although the occasional air speeder flies overhead, one of them flashing Espos red and yellow lights, traveling from east to west, siren buzzing. Currently, you're heading north, in general toward the space port, no particular destination. Tajanna's efforts to locate Lissewa via the ECUL's scanners come up with nothing, although admittedly the range isn't as powerful as the long range scanners you would find in a starship, space station, or the like.
Feb 16, 2017 10:16 pm
May I suggest, that if we are planning on going back to the ship. We should observe it carefully. I have a feeling that there will be some unwelcome guest awaiting us. We must draw our enemies out into the open. So I recommend that once we learn what we can from lissia, we seek out fleash crawler. It might even be advisable that we use the warehouse we just left as a tempory hiding spot.

he's almost for certain that going back to ship would be a trap of some sort and he didn't want to poke his head into that nest of vipers.

Krosus looks out the windows hoping to catch sight of the traitor.

Suddenly a com call comes in. It's from Lissewa, a short voice message: "Hey, what are you all doing? I know you're there. I'm waiting at the ship with a guest. Get here ASAP!"
Feb 17, 2017 3:51 am
Lexi frowned as the message played. "I don't like this, at all. Why are we just now getting the message? Either way, if we don't go back to the ship, I think we raise more suspicion from those that are trying to pull our strings. I think we go, but we go in hard and hot. Treat it like a combat insertion of some sort. Only until we can confirm that Lissewa is safe an this 'guest' holds no threat." she said, setting a course for their ship. Obviously, Krosus, we will observe a bit before we go in blazing. As much as possible. But when we go, we go quickly.

Why didn't she try pinging us at all before this? Radio silence is rarely good.
Feb 17, 2017 4:55 am
"Agreed, I do not like this one bit. Although if this is somehow actually genuine, it would save us a bit of hassle."

As Lexi drove the ECUL towards the spaceport, Tajanna again tried pinging for Lissi's transponder frequency, because the information could still possibly prove useful, and because Tajanna had nothing else to occupy to time with while Lexi brought the ECUL in.

If this is not a trap, why is Lissi only now contacting us, and with only such vague information? And if it is a trap, I would have expected a less suspicious message, like mentioning that she lost her comlink or something.

"Hey, could someone try replying to Lissi's message? Maybe ask why she hasn't contacted us until now or something?"
OOC:
I'm assuming that the ECUL moving closer to the spaceport would count as a reason to roll to check for the transponder again. If not, just ignore my roll.

Krosus takes Tajanna's advice and responds back to Lissi's message on his comlink. How nice to hear from you Lissi. Can you give us any details about what happened to you after you left our company? You had us all worried when we couldn't reach you.

He wanted cough up bile after that last sentence of false centimince. It was obvious the little traitor was leading them straight into a trap, but this time he would not be the bug. Lissi was inviting the spiders to dinner.
OOC:
I feel like this is the skill Krosus is going for. Assuming we can even get any other info from Lissi.
