Your eyes flicker open, and you find yourself staring up through a haze of black smoke and leaves. The sun is shining high above you, and the air is warm on your nearly bare skin. Looking around you, there are two other people sitting up at the same time. A pile of wreckage behind you is burning, pouring out the choking black smoke. Above you, a canopy of maple leaves filters out some of the light, leaving you in shade.

Good lord, what fresh hell is this? Jim sits up and looks around him. Seeing the other two, he says, Uhhh, are you guys from the regional office? I know it's Saturday, but you're kind of taking casual attire to a new level, don't ya think?
Dec 21, 2016 5:27 pm
Martin carefully stands up being sure to not stumble on anything. I have no damn clue. But I could really go for a beer right now, he says.

Dec 21, 2016 6:42 pm
It's 5 o'clock somewhere, he says back. But I would like to know where the hell we are. I was just going to get some groceries and now I am here. He looks around trying to make any sense of this location.

As Marty looks around the space, a few things jump out. There's a beach with lapping blue water about 400 feet away from you. You are all lying in a copse of trees that gets darker the further away from the beach it goes. About 20 feet away is a pile of burning wreckage, still with orange flames and black smoke pouring out of it. You pick out a few things of note: a tail fin with part of the letter E or F on it. A broken propeller blade hangs limply from a flaming engine. Your 'clothes' are drab gray, singed, and amount to nothing more than shorts and a belly shirt. The sun is directly overhead, and the day is warm in the shade of the trees, so it must be very warm in the direct sun.
Dec 21, 2016 7:11 pm
Marty looks towards the wreckage. My name is Marty by the way, he says to the other survivors.

Jim stops looking around for a moment to stare at Marty, an incredulous look on his face. Oh, hey, Marty! he says in a voice of the sincerest sincerity, his face a study in exasperated mockery. He grabs Marty's hand in both of his and begins to shake it vigorously. It's just such a pleasure to meet you Marty! I've been looking forward to this for just ages! How's the wife? And the kids? He drops Marty's hand. What-- he begins and pauses. What is wrong with you? Who the hell are you, and where the hell are we?

I told you who I am. If my name does not work well for you, I would be more than happy to provide the fact that we all have no clue as to where we are, how we got here, or why we are here. I suggest we calm down and try to scavenge for supplies before day turns into night, he says while looking around hoping to find some supplies.

The girl gets up and walks away from the two bickering men, not far, just a few feet. She looks them over a few times while they talk. "He's just introduced himself. Relax."
She moves to the left and peers at the wreckage, then the beach. "I was on campus shopping. Is that a beach? Are we supposed to believe we each got flown here without any memory?

Marty, as you investigate the beach, you don't find much. A pair of rocks the size of grapefruits, and some broken boughs. Down closer to the water, there are some seashells, nothing huge.
Dec 22, 2016 4:14 pm
That's what it's looking like, he says to the girl while looking into the forest for anything of interest, hoping to know what trees it contains. There are too many questions that need to be answered, but before anything we should focus on survival.

Deeper in the forest is much of what you'd expect. Fallen limbs, some fallen trees. Mounds of leaves, and a fair amount of acorns. There is some birdsong coming from deeper in the wooded area, however.
Dec 22, 2016 8:21 pm
Since it seems as if we are the only humans here and that it is on us to survive, we should make group decisions, he says while picking up limbs and sticks to use for fire, shelter, or anything really.

Go ahead and make a check to gather survival materials from the woods.
All checks (unless specified) have a base target of 70 on a 1d100 roll. In this case, you are in a well-stocked area from that perspective, so the target for this would be 60. You can add 1d10 to your roll because of your Mind rating. Additionally, you can drop the target by 10 because of your 2 survival points. So roll 1d100, 1d10 and the sum goes against a target of 50.

That roll is good enough to get you the materials to make a basic shelter. Nothing more than a lean-to pitched in and around the trees, but it has space inside for at least 4 people cozily. In addition to your lean-to, you manage enough wood to likely get you through a full day of a fire, if you can find a way to light it.

Looking out across the water, you cannot see land on the other side. You are either oceanic somewhere, or a VERY large lake.
The top of the tail of the plane is about 24 or 25 feet in the air. The wings were attached to the top of the fuselage (from what you can see through the smoke).

The sun has moved a bit, if you stand with your back to the water, you have a sliver of shadow extending in front of you. Temp is warm, slightly on the unpleasant side. There is no breeze at the moment.
Dec 23, 2016 10:28 pm
So the sun was directly overhead? And has been moving toward the waterline horizon. So forest extends east, water to the west. Anything resembling contrails in the sky?
Dec 24, 2016 4:01 am
Yes, the sun was directly overhead when you originally woke. It's now moved slightly toward the water side.
As your eyes search the skies, it's a muddled mix of clouds (mainly cumulonimbus with some cirrus flecked throughout). You don't make out any distinct contrail like patterns.
Everyone make a Mind roll (1d100 and then however many D10 you can add based on the points you put in Mind).

For each point in an attribute, you can add 1d10 to a roll for that attribute. So in this case, Jim's mind roll would be 1d100, 2d10. Unfortunately, Gamersplane doesn't like 1d100+2d10 as a formula, so you have to make it separate items:

In this case, my result is a 107, a very good result. :)

And to go further with the rolls. The amount of points (each point subtracts 10 I believe) you have in that attribute (brawn, agility, mind) determines the goal to reach. I believe the base goal for a roll is at least 70 for a success. Whereas if you have a 2 for brawn, you would subtract 20 from 70 meaning you must get at least a 50 to succeed.Dec 27, 2016 8:27 pm

OOC:
Nope, attributes grant you d10s to roll towards the goal without changing the difficulty. Skills give you 5 points off of the difficulty.Let's do an example:
Task: Swimming across the Channel. Target = 80 (it's hard!)
Character 1: Brawn 3, Swimming 2
Character 2: Brawn 1, Swimming 3
Character 3: Brawn 2, Swimming 0
Character 1 rolls 1d100 + 3d10. Their target is 70 (80 - 5 - 5)
Character 2 rolls 1d100 + 1d10. Their target is 65 (80 - 5 - 5 - 5)
Character 3 rolls 1d100 + 2d10. Their target is 80 (80)
Having the attribute boosted makes it somewhat more likely that you achieve by raising your total roll.
Having a skill makes it more likely that you achieve by making it easier to perform.

When you approach the wreckage of the plane, you notice there's only a single charred body in the former cockpit. You find no other bodies in wreck, not even bits of bodies. The plane looks strange, however. Instead of rows of seats, the twisted charred remains reveal a series of cots of some sort bolted to the fuselage.

Go ahead and give me a either a Mind or Brawn roll. If you have survival, you can use that to reduce the target (so a 1d100 and then however many D10s you need to add for your skill. The way I figure it, Mind will have you hunting in the wreckage for usable stuff and bringing it out. Brawn will be you just carrying a bunch of crap out of the airplane and figuring out how to make it useful later.

Martin starts hauling out anything that looks remotely useful. You end up with several pieces of slightly bent steel frames. On most of them, there are flame retardant straps riveted to the metal. Three of them look cut through, as if with a knife.
There are a few glass bottles and vials covered in ash.
You do find some melted piles of plastic with unwarped steel tubes in the middle. Marty, you recognize the metal components as pieces of military grade rifles and pistols.
There is the single charred skeleton.

The tubes are not warped at all. It is still straight as it would be in the firearm itself. You could, but you would have to find a way to: manufacture gunpowder, create a trigger mechanism, etc. Barrel, upper/lower receiver areas, firing pins, etc are all there, but you don't have the trigger components. They were likely plastic and melted in the inferno.Jan 18, 2017 5:49 pm
At this point, you just can't puzzle out how best you could turn the scraps of wreckage he pulled out into useful things. You have a pretty good thought that you should be able to, your mind is just a bit at a loss at the moment.
Jan 22, 2017 3:36 am
Martin takes the firearm components back to the camp. He attempts to position leaves with his feet so he can set the components down without possibly losing a piece. After finishing, he heads back to the wreckage to investigate the wreckage and surrounding area more.

You easily arrange a mat of leaves to hold the components. You find no other immediate resources in the wreckage. From where you are, looking both directions, the beach stretches on as far as you can see without bending or diverting.
