The bar patrons spill out of The Cast Iron and chase after Grok, but his stamina is greater than theirs and he loses them and makes it Nar's door.

Nar, having just set down his newly resized spiked full plate, hears Grok pounding on his door. Elsewhere, bells of alarm sound, and in the distance you can hear screams.

Your rooms are essentially adjoining, and so you will all hear Grok's pleas.

Owen was oiling his tools and weapons, his cloak laid out. He hears the commotion and hops up. Grabbing one of the shortswords he had already treated, he heads out of his room in a hurry. "What is going on? Is everyone alright?" He asks in a worried, serious tone whilst he approaches the scene.
Jan 16, 2017 4:21 am
Roused from his rest, Jhishma bursts from his room, "Grok!?!?! What's going on? Did you say demons? Grok, are you sure?" Then, seeing the drink in his eyes and hearing the screams in the distance, the paladin asks, "Grok, are you drunk? Have you scared some people?"
Jan 16, 2017 8:00 am
Grok snaps out of it, his discipline returning at Jhishma's stern voice. He gets back to his feet and drops the dagger so it once more hangs by it's chain.

"Um.. Nottgrok got drunk a bit, but it ok. It not Grok, you see? So..." Realizing he's not playing his best cards here, he grasps around for something else to say, then realizes the demons are probably more important.

"Oh, yeah. Grok went to tavern. Eh.. She call it Cast Iron or somethin'. Everyone so friendly. Then Grok see they have horns, like that guy in the cavern. And those demon-thingies in the street. Not know why not see it before, first they look friendly and normal, then they look all demon-y. Nar say to Grok once that demon-thingies be very bad and eat thing that make Grok Grok. Grok not scare any one, Grok just get away fast, and come get Nar. Nar always know what to do."

Cyrind'ae tears herself from a book she was reading, poking her head from the door, looking inquisitively at what's happening in the corridor. She sees the rest of the group rounding around Grok, prodding him with questions about demons. She listens to Grok's story intently.

"Demons, like the one we met? Does he mean tieflings? There would be a bar of tieflings right in in this city beneath our very noses?"
Jan 16, 2017 11:01 pm
Hearing the discipline return to Grok's voice, Jhishma realizes his halforc friend has just delivered an extremely detailed and lucid description (for Grok) of events.

He turns to address Cyrind'ae first, "Yes, it seems that's the case. Grok knows demons and he knows tieflings and this is how he would describe them." Then, returning his attention to Grok, the dragonborn says with approval, assurance and authority in his voice: "You did good coming straight back here, Grok. We'll look into it further together as a company. As soon as Nar and his new friend-of-the-cloth appear in answer to your call we'll follow you back and you can show us exactly where you encountered the demons."

Grok stares past Jhishma, his mind working and re-working the evenings events. The gears that started in the bar have now gained momentum.

"Dagger. They..." He looks at Jhishma with an expression of sudden realization. Clearly having big thoughts inside that head for the first time, he struggles a bit with making them into words.

"Grok.. Ehm. Me." He wrinkles his eyebrows and looks at the ceiling for a moment, his brain muscles clearly working hard. He once again composes himself.

"Jhish. Me remember something. Maybe important? The dagger." He takes a deep breath.

"Me walk into bar, and they all be normal. Friendly, Grok had fun. Then was going to go upstairs, and I touch blade. Then everyone looked bad. Me think dagger let Grok see them true then. See their hearts. They be tied to sharpie, and..."

He picks up the dagger in his left hand and strokes the blade gingerly with his right. "Grok feel it. They not be tied to dagger. They be tied to big bad thing that want dagger."

Owen relaxes somewhat, lowering his weapon. "You sure it wasn't just a bad dream or something Grok?" Owen asks the half-orc.

Fritz rises up, a disappointed look growing on his face. "Sorry Nar. I can neither confirm, nor deny the presence of evil in this equipment. I will say though, they are of excellent qual-"

Loud banging and a commotion interrupt his speech. His brow furrows and a look of grave concern appears. He looks to Nar, and then proceeds to the door. "By the gods! Is that Grok?" He opens the door and gestures for Nar to lead the way.
Jan 17, 2017 7:48 pm
"Well, if Grok truly escaped them screaming like that, they know the jig is up. They either abandoned the place or are waiting in ambush for whomever's coming to investigate. Either way, I say better us than the town constabulary, if a trap is waiting for us at least we know what to expect..."
Jan 18, 2017 11:11 pm
Nar finally emerges from Fritz' quarters, probably confusing both Grok and Cyrind'ae.

After getting up to speed, "I agree with the bard -- this is a job for our crew. But I haven't known tieflings to cast a magical deceptive trap like that! I believe Grok's instincts are correct and we're dealing with demons. Be careful not to get lured in by their charms..."

Visibly relieved now that his companions is here --surely everything will be ok now, as they are smart and can fix anything-- Grok drops the dagger back onto it's chain and walks up to Nar. "Thanks, bro. Smash time now?" With his friends at his side, the fires of battle are once again lit in Grok's eyes.

Three of you will remember first hand a mass illusion perpetrated by cultists of Orcus that started in the prison back in Marian Town. That was the work of a powerful magician (who was never identified), or the direct intercession of the demon Prince itself.

As you prepare yourselves for three unknown, the alarm bells and screams cease and relative silence returns to the city.

A patrol of town guard is jogging your way, toward the prior alarms.
Jan 19, 2017 6:30 pm
"If demons are about, then we better investigate!" says, Jhishma, stating the obvious, "Let's move! Double time!" and the dragonborn gives everyone an 'are you ready?' look and heads quickly down the street to where Grok described his encounter.
Jan 19, 2017 6:56 pm
Owen follows, though with lest vigor than the dragon born.
Jan 20, 2017 12:24 am
Nar carches Grok's enthusiasm and rushes into the fray!

"Stay close -- all may not be as it seems. The alarm has stopped, but I'd wager all is not well. I suspect that the demons may have gotten to the alarm."

Cyrind'ae will hail the town guards, acknowledging their presence.

"Hail to thee constable. What may I help you with?"
Jan 20, 2017 2:38 am
"Alarms! If you're good with a weapon, you're welcome to join us. Might be over now." The constable and his crew continue to jog toward the former sounds.

As those of you who follow Jhishma, including Owen and Nar, and maybe tipsy Grok who follows Nar, and assuming Fritz follows Nar, too, and Cyrind'ae who might be going with the patrol.

Okay, you race down the street with the patrol and find a small water brigade putting out the last touches on a fire charring the side of a tavern, with a sign labelled as The Cast Iron.

An aproned lady wipes her brow with her forearm and looks about. "There! That's the one that dids it!"

She is, of course, pointing at Grok.

If there are any demons about, they are well concealed.
Some kind of perceptiony roll (Insight or Perception) could be attempted. Or other kinds of sensings.

Owen looks around and approaches the tavern. "Let me have a look." He then casts detect magic to see if any concealment or illusions reside in the area.
OOC:

Detect Magic (Wis)
For the duration, you sense the presence of magic within 30 feet of you. If you sense magic in this way, you can use your action to see a faint aura around any visible creature or object in the area that bears magic, and you learn its school of magic, if any.

The spell can penetrate most barriers, but it is blocked by 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood or dirt.

Rolls

Perception, if needed - (1d20+4)

(12) + 4 = 16
