You know what goes here

Hi guys! I've got about 6-8 months of active GPing under my belt, I love D&D 5e, and I'm an incredibly active and frequent poster whenever my crazy life allows me to be.

I joined into Gamers Plane in early December, so I have a few months of GP gaming experience. I love the roleplaying aspect of D&D because it allows me to enter a new world and use my imagination. I am usually constantly checking GP to check for new posts, so I guess you could say I am also an active and frequent poster.

I had just recently changed my profile picture from a wizard-like hat to King Arthur. I did this because I am a big fan of the TV series Merlin and just could not resist.

Thanks for having me here! :-)

I'm Jabes, 42 years old, from Manila, Philippines (GMT+8). Besides the time zone difference I also keep odd work hours as I am a chef running my own cake business. We like making geeky cakes. Here's a D&D-themed one, and here's another.

And then there's this bad boy!

I was introduced to D&D almost 30 years ago (AD&D back then) and to this day I still play with the same group of guys, my best friends. We played 3.5E when that came out and spent 10 years on a campaign, skipped 4E, and started a 5E campaign as soon as it came out. I've been on GP since early 2015. It's been fun trying out new game systems and character concepts I would never have gotten off the ground in my IRL games.

I'm in quite a few games on here. I'm not an addict. Nope.

Whenever I play I try to do something new. Sometimes that means something a little unconventional, but other times that just means something I myself have never tried before. I'm not yet sure what to play for this particular game, but most likely something from UA.

Looking forward to going on this adventure with you folks! :-)

Aha! Yes! You are the man who creates the amazing cakes!

Jabes, is that you in the purple wig?

My name is Dan, but can be found by XOSkel10 in any online profile. I still have the dice from the basic D&D box set I bought in 1978. I skipped from AD&D in the 80's (when I was the only one who willing to DM) to 5e within the past couple of years (and now my son is the DM of my IRL group). I am involved in 2 other games here. I think 2-3 active games is enough for me! (cough, Jabes, cough).

I don't know Jabes is only in 16 odd games and is only running 1, That's about the same number of games I'm in and I run 4 of them (one of which is actually 4 games rolled up into one)... So clearly there's nothing wrong with Jabes level of involvement, in fact I think he's slacking a little!

Heh, I'm in a lot of active games. I'm in like 12 total, but only 5-6 or so are active I think.

I guess while we're getting all introduced I should throw out my credentials, Started playing DnD about 10 years ago, this was of course 4 years after I invented tabletop role playing (imagine my surprise when I discovered someone had beat me to it)! When I started off I loved crunchier systems, rapidly getting into all those D20 systems (especially the starwars and WoW d20 games), then leaping across to Call of Cthulhu. Entered a bit of a systems rut when my only game was a 3.5 game I was running for group of 10 PCs (It's still going somehow... even though I'm in another state...) But when I moved I started playing new systems, and fell in love with the more rules light, narrative/rp focused games.

Current RPG Projects include; Putting together a new world for 5e DnD, Writing an PbtA Cyberpunk Noir game loosely inspired by Urban Shadows and my long term work a entirely new system: Machines and Magic, a game where I attempt to balance player agency with resource management to deliver a rules light system with an intense sense of imminent death.

When I'm not doing all that, I find time to do research towards my doctoral thesis in acausal quantum mechanics and other applications of the process tensor formulation of open quantum dynamics. Oh and teaching to put bread on the table.

I feel ashamed
Feb 17, 2017 3:08 am
I'm glad I'm not old enough to know what my life will be like so I don't have to be ashamed, but I think I probably would be if I had a few more years under my belt.

Don't be, each give in the amount that they can. I'd rather a player who was in one game but consistently posted then in 100 and I only saw them once a week..

So what about the username, @DM? Am I correct in getting Genesis (i.e. beginning, first book of the Bible, etc) out of it, combined with sect, or is it Genisi sect, or Genesis ect?

I am one of the ones who constantly refreshes the page to look for updates in the forums.

@CouchLord, It's a really old name that use for everything. When I started of on my first MMO (can't remember if it was WoW or Runescape as they were about the same time) Rolled a warrior and called him Genesisword, I thought I was being clever as it was my first character, my MMO Genesis if you would, and he wielded a sword and I liked the overlapping into one word by omitting the repeated s (no spaces were allowed and genisissword looked weird). But then I wanted to play a wizard (Genesispell) and a tank (Genesishield), and then an archer, but I couldn't come up with something good for it, and in my head cannon all of these characters I was playing were working together and I had already jokingly named the group of them the Genesisect (the Genesis-Sect) so I went with that. When I made the character though I screwed up the spelling and the character and he was called genisisect. I kind of liked the misspelling though, as it sort of removed it from being a union of words to just being a thing, and I ended up using that ever since. Only problem is there's a terrible pokemon with a similar name (genesect) nowadays which is kind of ruining the party and makes it harder for me to google myself...

At the time I never realised just how religious the name actually was, for a little while a few years latter I had considered dropping the t, and being genisisec (I was going to keep the misspelling), representing my belief in a secular genesis, but the fact that I really don't care that much if people mistake it for a religion thing, and that I like the name and have been using it for so long stopped me from fiddling around with it.

So that's the long story of the username, if all you wanted to know is how to pronounce it, well it's "genisis-sect", where the s-s should be a long s sound with no break. The few times I've heard other people try to pronounce it have been hilarious though, and I've heard just about every way of splitting the s.

So my initial guess was right! I had no idea why you would be genesis-sect, but that was my guess.
My last name is Davenport and I'm the oldest in my family so Couch comes from my name (Davenport is an old word for a sleeper sofa), Lord comes from oldest child and 0510 is my birthday, May 10, as well as just a cool sequence of numbers (flanking zeroes, 5=10/2, etc.)

Hey everybody! I'm the lucky 5th player. A bit about myself, I've been playing DnD for 6 years. Started with 3.5 and Pathfinder, and then to 5th edition- which I actually prefer now over other modules. I've been on GP for about a year now, and I've been in plenty of games, I think I was in 15ish, but I dropped a few due to inactivity. I was running a Wild West 5th edition homebrew for a bit, but most of the players ended up inactive and unfortunately I ended wrapping it up. I'm currently running a thieves guild homebrew- I'm kind of improvising throughout that one, so it's going slow, but it'll end up fun. But yeah, outside of GP I write books, but mainly I train in weaponry of all kinds, preparing to be a medic in U.S. Army Special Forces. I'm a senior in high school still, so I'm busy with Ballroom Team and Chamber Singers, but I'm pretty active with a few minor absences here and there. Everything is calming down since I'm about to graduate though, so I'll be even more active. Anyway, glad to be here, and glad to get started on a seemingly awesome campaign.
