Hi guys! I've got about 6-8 months of active GPing under my belt, I love D&D 5e, and I'm an incredibly active and frequent poster whenever my crazy life allows me to be.
Feb 16, 2017 1:50 pm
I joined into Gamers Plane in early December, so I have a few months of GP gaming experience. I love the roleplaying aspect of D&D because it allows me to enter a new world and use my imagination. I am usually constantly checking GP to check for new posts, so I guess you could say I am also an active and frequent poster.
I had just recently changed my profile picture from a wizard-like hat to King Arthur. I did this because I am a big fan of the TV series Merlin and just could not resist.

Thanks for having me here! :-)
I'm Jabes, 42 years old, from Manila, Philippines (GMT+8). Besides the time zone difference I also keep odd work hours as I am a chef running my own cake business. We like making geeky cakes. Here's a D&D-themed one, and here's another.
And then there's this bad boy!
I was introduced to D&D almost 30 years ago (AD&D back then) and to this day I still play with the same group of guys, my best friends. We played 3.5E when that came out and spent 10 years on a campaign, skipped 4E, and started a 5E campaign as soon as it came out. I've been on GP since early 2015. It's been fun trying out new game systems and character concepts I would never have gotten off the ground in my IRL games.
I'm in quite a few games on here. I'm not an addict. Nope.
Whenever I play I try to do something new. Sometimes that means something a little unconventional, but other times that just means something I myself have never tried before. I'm not yet sure what to play for this particular game, but most likely something from UA.
Looking forward to going on this adventure with you folks! :-)

Jabes, is that you in the purple wig?
My name is Dan, but can be found by XOSkel10 in any online profile. I still have the dice from the basic D&D box set I bought in 1978. I skipped from AD&D in the 80's (when I was the only one who willing to DM) to 5e within the past couple of years (and now my son is the DM of my IRL group). I am involved in 2 other games here. I think 2-3 active games is enough for me! (cough, Jabes, cough).

I don't know Jabes is only in 16 odd games and is only running 1, That's about the same number of games I'm in and I run 4 of them (one of which is actually 4 games rolled up into one)... So clearly there's nothing wrong with Jabes level of involvement, in fact I think he's slacking a little!
Feb 17, 2017 2:53 am
Heh, I'm in a lot of active games. I'm in like 12 total, but only 5-6 or so are active I think.

I guess while we're getting all introduced I should throw out my credentials, Started playing DnD about 10 years ago, this was of course 4 years after I invented tabletop role playing (imagine my surprise when I discovered someone had beat me to it)! When I started off I loved crunchier systems, rapidly getting into all those D20 systems (especially the starwars and WoW d20 games), then leaping across to Call of Cthulhu. Entered a bit of a systems rut when my only game was a 3.5 game I was running for group of 10 PCs (It's still going somehow... even though I'm in another state...) But when I moved I started playing new systems, and fell in love with the more rules light, narrative/rp focused games.
Current RPG Projects include; Putting together a new world for 5e DnD, Writing an PbtA Cyberpunk Noir game loosely inspired by Urban Shadows and my long term work a entirely new system: Machines and Magic, a game where I attempt to balance player agency with resource management to deliver a rules light system with an intense sense of imminent death.
When I'm not doing all that, I find time to do research towards my doctoral thesis in acausal quantum mechanics and other applications of the process tensor formulation of open quantum dynamics. Oh and teaching to put bread on the table.

I'm glad I'm not old enough to know what my life will be like so I don't have to be ashamed, but I think I probably would be if I had a few more years under my belt.
Feb 17, 2017 3:09 am
Don't be, each give in the amount that they can. I'd rather a player who was in one game but consistently posted then in 100 and I only saw them once a week..

So what about the username, @DM? Am I correct in getting Genesis (i.e. beginning, first book of the Bible, etc) out of it, combined with sect, or is it Genisi sect, or Genesis ect?

I am one of the ones who constantly refreshes the page to look for updates in the forums.

@CouchLord, It's a really old name that use for everything. When I started of on my first MMO (can't remember if it was WoW or Runescape as they were about the same time) Rolled a warrior and called him Genesisword, I thought I was being clever as it was my first character, my MMO Genesis if you would, and he wielded a sword and I liked the overlapping into one word by omitting the repeated s (no spaces were allowed and genisissword looked weird). But then I wanted to play a wizard (Genesispell) and a tank (Genesishield), and then an archer, but I couldn't come up with something good for it, and in my head cannon all of these characters I was playing were working together and I had already jokingly named the group of them the Genesisect (the Genesis-Sect) so I went with that. When I made the character though I screwed up the spelling and the character and he was called genisisect. I kind of liked the misspelling though, as it sort of removed it from being a union of words to just being a thing, and I ended up using that ever since. Only problem is there's a terrible pokemon with a similar name (genesect) nowadays which is kind of ruining the party and makes it harder for me to google myself...
At the time I never realised just how religious the name actually was, for a little while a few years latter I had considered dropping the t, and being genisisec (I was going to keep the misspelling), representing my belief in a secular genesis, but the fact that I really don't care that much if people mistake it for a religion thing, and that I like the name and have been using it for so long stopped me from fiddling around with it.
So that's the long story of the username, if all you wanted to know is how to pronounce it, well it's "genisis-sect", where the s-s should be a long s sound with no break. The few times I've heard other people try to pronounce it have been hilarious though, and I've heard just about every way of splitting the s.

So my initial guess was right! I had no idea why you would be genesis-sect, but that was my guess.
My last name is Davenport and I'm the oldest in my family so Couch comes from my name (Davenport is an old word for a sleeper sofa), Lord comes from oldest child and 0510 is my birthday, May 10, as well as just a cool sequence of numbers (flanking zeroes, 5=10/2, etc.)

Hey everybody! I'm the lucky 5th player. A bit about myself, I've been playing DnD for 6 years. Started with 3.5 and Pathfinder, and then to 5th edition- which I actually prefer now over other modules. I've been on GP for about a year now, and I've been in plenty of games, I think I was in 15ish, but I dropped a few due to inactivity. I was running a Wild West 5th edition homebrew for a bit, but most of the players ended up inactive and unfortunately I ended wrapping it up. I'm currently running a thieves guild homebrew- I'm kind of improvising throughout that one, so it's going slow, but it'll end up fun. But yeah, outside of GP I write books, but mainly I train in weaponry of all kinds, preparing to be a medic in U.S. Army Special Forces. I'm a senior in high school still, so I'm busy with Ballroom Team and Chamber Singers, but I'm pretty active with a few minor absences here and there. Everything is calming down since I'm about to graduate though, so I'll be even more active. Anyway, glad to be here, and glad to get started on a seemingly awesome campaign.

Here's some music to help get us in the mood. ;-)

I will concede I was listening to diablo music when I was writting most of my adventure notes.

I gotta say I loved this game back in the day! The 2nd and 3rd versions got more and more epic and the stories got more and more complex (which isn't necessarily a bad thing - I do like some of the innovations) but the original was just incredibly creepy and claustrophobic. Great stuff!

The prelude is live, feel free to have your characters jump in, or to create other NPCs to weigh in on the argument.

Hi all,
Sorry about not getting the next part up, but building the rest of he world is taking more time then I thought, and I'm trying to Taylor it to what experiences it seems your after. I don't have a huge amount of free time at the moment which is translated to a huge wait for the first chapter. I'm going to formally put this game on pause while I put the finishing touches on this. I hope to get things rolling again soon, and I'm sorry that I didn't warn you quicker.

No worries! There's no rush. Looking forward to what you'll have in store when we hit the un-pause button! :-)

Apr 3, 2017 1:16 am
Still 'loading' the world. It's taking longer then I would like as I'm incredibly busy at the moment IRL. Should have enough content to work with in the coming week.
Apr 3, 2017 1:53 am
Okay cool. I'll be in California from 4/5-4/11, so I'll only have my phone to post, so no pressure cause I understand the busy life.
May 15, 2017 10:09 pm
I'm getting slammed with marking at the moment so it's a bit slow. I anticipate having a lot more free time in a week or to where I'll smash out the rest of the planning and we can get going. Sorry about the delays all.

Ok I've finally finished prepping this game. Are we all on board and ready to go?

Great article! Thanks for sharing Jabes. Diablo 2 was one of (actually still is) my top favorites of all time. Such an amazing game- I actually have been playing a TON of Diablo 3 recently, and it's so underrated. While I was playing today, I came to realize that Tirisfel is basically Tristram right? Haha, I thought that was a decent connection.

We have a new player, welcome Loadstone!
We are working to. One up with an interesting character for them to play and will likely add them into the main story after this combat.

Don't worry XOSkel, do you want me to NPC your character while your unavailable?
Aug 11, 2017 1:54 pm
Hello all, Loadstone here.
Finally I don't feel old, in fact I feel damn near n00bish. I'm a 36ish, Married, Father of three mini-rpers, and a 20 year veteran of D&D. All the kids at Roll20, were making me feel like an old man. Finally I have some adults to play with, even look up to. In fact all of you are more experienced then me, in Play-by-Post Roleplaying. Since this is my very first one. Indeed this will be my very first Forum post in Gamer's Plane.
As a n00b to this form of Media, I'm going look to all of you for advice, tips and tricks to Rping on forums. If someone would give me a run down of formatting, Bold for speech, Italics for Inner thoughts. How do I post dice rolls? I wish my profile pic would show. I haven't even explored creating a character in GP. So much to learn, I hope to get plenty of help.
Now, I do have some experience with D&D, besides the countless Roll20 games that have come and gone (they never seem to last long.) I have spent many a years role playing with the same group of people. In an experience not unlike Jabes. I started out in 2nd Edition AD&D, thoroughly enjoyed 3.X, kept 4e away with a 10' pole, played pathfinder in the meantime, and as soon as my Pathfinder campaign ended, hopped right into 5e. My three kids play with me sometime, my oldest, now a Senior in High school has started his own group of D&D Tavern Brawlers, and my youngest boy is gonna start DMing a game for me soon. Can't wait. While I wait though, I'm happy to be here.
I look forward to exploring this Diablo inspired apocalyptic world with you all. I remember many a lost hours playing the first Diablo on Playstation.
Also you mentioned DMB forum, you listen to the podcast as well? It really cool to see other Blockheads out there. Just browsing the games alone I seen two. You and DM Mainprize was hosting a game. Really Cool.

Hey Loadstone, I have a few questions about your Dwarven Paladin. Not sure if you read up on all the other Orders, but the only Paladins are in the Knights of the Undaunted Crusade. Each Paladin/ other class in the order MUST follow the Oath of the Crown no matter what class they are. Also, how did Ser Claymore find you? What made him bring you into the order? Upon graduation, what symbol were you granted? I like what you have so far, I just wanted to clarify things up so it fits with what we already have constructed.
Aug 12, 2017 11:42 pm
Ah just to clarify I had loadstone flesh out the three heroes who saved the town 9 years ago, as it was relevant to the character he built. So Huldurn was definitely a paladin before Ser Claymore started recruiting!

Sorry I've been out y'all! Life has hit me like a truck. I'll try to get back into it, but I'm afraid I can't promise too much at the moment.

I'm a bit lost on the initiative order. It seems like we're doing side-based initiative but I'm not so sure. If we are, then is it currently the good-guys' turn?
Sep 8, 2017 9:34 pm
Well we had an order but I gave up on it for the supportive flow of side based. The whole thread ground to a half without it. It is currently your side.

Thanks! All combatants are now in melee? So ranged attacks now have Disadvantage?
