Chapter 2: Killing Some Stinky Trogs

Frick knows Ygne well enough to recognize her weak cover-up, but doesn't comment on it. "Nah, don't worry about me, I ain't gonna die here. Not to a bunch of stinky fuckin' trogs anyway!" he says, patting her on the shoulder, then pauses, "You don't die either, okay?"

Ygne does get best to look offended that he'd suggest such a thing, even if it'd been on her mind. "There no one that can kill Ygne the Quick," she assures him, "I'm just looking out for you, is all." Despite her best attempts to appear completely normal, someone that knew her as well as Frick did could tell that she was feeling relieved.

CancerMan says:
As they pass the impaled troglodyte, Elspa tests her theory and tries to separate the head from the body with her axe.
The undead creature falls limp. You watch the creature for awhile, and the only movement you see is from the typical rigor mortis you've seen on battlefield corpses.

Keeping a wary eye on Rygnar, Jarveena nudges Elspa. "Choppin' heads done it, then. Good t'know." She points out into the inky darkness of the jungle. "So whaddya think? Camp here, an' head out at dawn?"
Apr 1, 2017 11:09 pm
"Here's as good a den as any," Elspa replies. "We practic'ly cleared the place, but let's keep an eye out anyway."

At Elspa's words, Rygnar draws his sword and makes his way to the cave entrance; where he stands guard with his sword at the ready.

Elspa, Jarveena, and Rygnar begin setting up camp at mouth of the troglodyte cave. The air is still somewhat toxic here, but it is manageable and will mask your own scents. Frick relieves Ygne's anxieties while they help set up camp.

Moss stalks off into the dark jungle and returns with the alarm ropes that trigger the clanging trees. He then stalks off again into the dark to check the perimeter.

The evening passes without incident. You wake in the early morning, refreshed. Ygne's vision returns to normal.

Waking up with his belly rumbling from hunger...
I don't suppose anyone has some spare food ? I won't be picky, it can't be worse compared to what I ate in the last months...

For reference, here is the map of the islands that was tucked in the journal that the captain of the Black Lotus carried.. Your actual location is now the center of the island, not the beach.

Jarveena tosses Moss some food from the few rations she managed to grab before abandoning ship. "I'm fer buildin' a boat an' sailin' off. Whaddya say, King? Whad el'h we goan find on thi'h rock 'sides more o' them undead trog?"

Moss takes a few seconds to think and then answers,
I don't know for the undead trogs but there is at least two other tribes of troglodytes numbering in the 30, maybe 40 individuals.... So the idea of a boat or a raft to go to another isle is pretty much a good one from my point of view.

"Goan hafta git wood an' rope an' oars. Barrels, mebbe? Sail's back there." Jarveena jerks a thumb inside the cave.

We can probably salvage enough rope from the alarm systems...
Apr 3, 2017 6:45 am
"Aye." Jarveena nods. "Les' git to it." She enlists Elspa and Rygnar's help hauling the sail, and the rope that Moss gathered. "We'll hafta build near th' beach."

Ygne sucks on her teeth in thought as she ponders the plan to make a boat. She'll back off a bit, when no one is particularly looking, and she'll go see what she can scavenge for food in the woods.

OOC:
Sounds like everyone is down for building a boat! Constructing a simple raft with a sail to get to the mainland will require 2d4+2 hours, which includes the travel time to return to the beach. I'll do a hidden intelligence check for the sturdiness of the boat; I'll use Moss's INTmodifier and add proficiency because of Jarveena and Elspa's experience with sailing to make it truly a group effort.

After we find out how long it takes, I'll roll random encounters.

BTW: If you wanted to construct a vessel capable of extended ocean-going travel, that would be an entirely different sort of task

How well did the boat turn out? - (1d20+4)

The day proceeds peacefully as you set yourselves to building a boat. It is hard work, but you manage to rig up a simple vessel that looks like it will work, at least in the short term. Given the limitation of building supplies, you aren't too confident it could survive a big wave or an impact with rocks, and it certainly isn't going to win any beauty contests.
[ +- ] Your Raft
Ygne struggles to find anything worthy of eating. What little fruit and shoots she finds are diseased and strewn with maggots.

It is now 2pm in the afternoon. The weather is sunny and breezy. You have 6 hour before the sun goes down.

Which shore did you go to, the western one with the debris, or the eastern one closer to the mainland? Also, please note in your character sheets what items you took from the beach salvage before you leave the island; otherwise we will assume you left them behind (ie, copper pots & other junk).
