Chapter 2: Killing Some Stinky Trogs

Elspa pitches in, using her strength to haul materials to the construction site. She has no idea how to build a boat, and makes that fact plainly known. "I have no idea how to build a boat. I hope the rest of you do."
Apr 3, 2017 5:21 pm
Frick finds the work to be a bit boring, but helps out as he can, understanding the necessity of it. He still pays close attention to how it's done; you can never be sure when it might be useful to know how to build a boat!

Naatkinson says:
OOC:
Hopefully our raft is giant squid free?
OOC:
Foreshadowing aside, your vessel is currently free of giant squid.

Elspa uses her handaxe to trim lumber as needed, or to harvest vines and rope from the trees. While she works, she speaks quietly to Rygnar in conversation, "Nah, they's good folk. Jarveena was in the same pack on the boat, so by blood rights she's with us. The others got some fire in 'em to be sure, but they ain't weak. Might help to keep them around for a while."

Frick attempts to keep close to Ygne as much as possible during their work without making it too obvious, knowing she wouldn't appreciate that. He hopes that his proximity helps to quell her fears.

OOC:
Feel free to take as much time on this island as you like, doing whatever you need or want to do. When the party is ready, pick a destination. You can travel at the rate of 1 hex, or 6 miles, per hour. Once you're out on the ocean, we'll roll for random encounters and see what happens.

I'll go and try to find some food for the travel, I'll be back before sun down...
If nobody stops Moss, he turns and enters the jungle for some hunting/foraging...
OOC:
I don't know what you need me to roll, so here's a few rolls for you.

As she is possibly the most experienced sailor among the group, Jarveena directs the building of the raft. It doesn't turn out as seaworthy as she hoped, but with the limited resources she supposes it can't be helped. She nods when Moss says he's going hunting. She's rather not stay another night on this isle but the tide and wind will be better at dawn. "If ye doan come back I ain' searchin' for ye!" she calls after him.
OOC:
Eastern shore makes sense. So we're spending the night at the beach guarding our raft then?
Apr 4, 2017 4:51 am
Much throughout the building process Rygnar is hardly ever seen out of viewing distance of Elspa. He nods as she speaks to him "As long as they show you respect, I will stay my blade."

OOC:
I mean, it is only 2 pm when we finished so we can make it pretty far before nightfall.

During a break, or when the raft is done, Elspa checks her pack. "I need to find some medicine," she says, referring to her herbalism kit supply. She looks into the jungle. "Rygnar, help me out and use your nose."

"Elspa, you forget? My nose doesn't work good, one to many breaks I think." While Rygnar smiles, he can't help but feel bad for not being more help for her.

Moss brings back a whole nest of fat water snakes for dinner, as well as locates a fresh rainwater pond to fill your canteens in.
OOC:
You don't have to spend rations for this day.

Elspa and Rygnar look all over, but find nothing usable among the diseased plants of this jungle. No Troglodytes challenge you, however.

As night approaches, you set up camp on the exposed beach, prepared to keep your new watercraft safe. The sun is setting, and the gorgeous sky paired with the rolling waves and the smell of cooked meat is making this feel quite comfortable. East from your island, you can see cook fires lighting at two distant settlements.

As night comes, the jungle goes eerily quiet. Everything stands still for an excessively long period of time, but the chirping of frogs and insects eventually returns.
OOC:
We'll do another long rest. Looks like today was completely quiet for action; I guess you scared the Troglodytes well! Let's pick your location for sailing and get to that after your long rest.

Frick, Ygne, and anyone else who did not get a chance to act are welcome to retroactively post what activity they performed during this time.

Ygne took a moment to relax throughout the day, actively avoiding constructing a boat, always disappearing if/when she's needed.

Inspecting the raft,
Since we do not know for sure how stable the raft is , I suggest we go for the closest island. But I'll admit that just leaving this one will be good enough for me.

"There be someone living there, too," Elspa states the obvious, tipping her chin over to the campfires in the distance. "But are they frog-men or not?"

"I like His Majesty's suggestion," Ygne says during one of her brief appearances throughout the day, "Get to land quick-like, search it out for anything shiny and valuable, and scoot on to the next."
Apr 5, 2017 12:44 pm
"That sounds fine to me. Let's leave in the morning and check out the locals. Either they'll help us or try to kill us, either way we win!"
Apr 5, 2017 1:43 pm
Before we leave, I just wanted everybody to know, some of the corpses the trogs brought in that washed out on the beach had really scary bite marks... Once I even spotted giant crabs and one of them was massive, maybe 20ft high. We crossed eyes and I swear there was some spark of intelligence in there. The trogs called it "Old One". What I'm trying to say is we'll have to be really careful on the water, because I don't know about you guys, but I plan on staying alive for more than a few hours if possible...

Moss is looking at the water and shivers for a few seconds...

Morning arrives without any incident; whether your show of strength has kept the troglodytes wary of engaging you or they just had better things to do you'll never know. The most beautiful sunrise you can imagine stretches before you.

You shove off from land and hop onto your humble vessel, setting sail for the nearby island village. On a beautiful day like today, what could go wrong?
