Stardate 48515.52
Scientific Research Station, Epsilon 19, Deep in the Shackleton Expanse.

Your ship, the U.S.S. Venture, was assigned to deliver important scientific equipment to Epsilon 19, a newly constructed research station deep in the Shackleton Expanse. The station was built to study the sun of the Osarin system, which is decaying at an incredibly accelerated rate. Possibly even stranger, the sun has also begun emitting high levels of triolic radiation for unknown reasons.

Upon arrival, Tactical noted that an unarmed merchant vessel was also orbiting the station. The station was too small for the Venture to dock, so you beamed over to the station. The Venture departed the station to conduct more detailed scans of the system’s sun.

You have now off-loaded the equipment, and just received a dinner invitation from the station commander, Commander Erich Johansson.

OOC:
Needs to be accepted before you can use it. Once Azira sees it and approves it you should be good to go.
Mar 21, 2017 4:34 am
OOC:
Are all 4 of us on the station, away from the Venture? If so, who's in command? Wesley, I mean Codral, would have preferred to go on the scanning mission...
Mar 21, 2017 7:21 am
OOC:
All of you are on the station, yes. Suffice to say, Cordal was essential in the delivery of these supplies. That scanning mission is a trivial matter anyways, there is no way such a simple thing can go wrong is there? ... I apologize mildly for railroading here, suffice to say it's for the greater plot :)

Oh, I just realized I did a great blunder in choosing the intro image. This is a space research station, not a planet based one. Quick retcon: I'm editing the fist post, and assuming the banter between Reiter and Sabin about going outside didn't actually happen. Sorry there.
Mar 21, 2017 2:33 pm
It would be most logical for us to meet with Commander Johansson. The Venture is not due back for some time and they would hail us if they needed us. Commander Reiter, please make the necessary arrangements. Sumek said, words carefully measured as always.

OOC:
Deleting my original post -- Azira or Mr_T may want to do the same to his.
"Absolutely, Captain. A little R&R for the command crew sounds just like what the doctor ordered."

Reiter taps his commbadge, "Reiter to the base commander's office." He assumes this will direct him to an attache of the base commander rather than interrupting the CO during his busy day.
Mar 21, 2017 10:35 pm
The comlink activates and a junior officer responds. "Commander Reiter, this is Ops for Commander Johannson."

Reiter accepts the invite, you are expected in the captains ready-room in about 30 minutes.
OOC:
What equipment, if any, will you be bringing to dinner? Protocol calls for all of you, except for Sabin Jiral --as Chief of Security--, to attend unarmed.
Mar 22, 2017 7:59 pm
Codral will bring a tricorder. He can't go 5 seconds without scanning something. Until then, he'll read up on the properties of triolic radiation.

Can he tie into the station's sensors to keep tabs on the Venture and the developments with the odd emissions from the star?

Sumek only brings his communicator. No tricorder or phaser, always the pinnacle of class and logical grace. :D

Reiter will also just bring his communicator. Tricorders aren't something someone needs to carry to a dinner!

Cordal is getting a live feed from the sensor data coming in. The triolic radiation is unlike anything you've seen before, simply facinating!

I'm assuming Lt.Cmd. Sabin Jiral is bringing his tricorder and hand phaser, standard for a Chief of Security at all times.
You make yourself presentable, and take the turbolift to the commander's ready-room. As you enter, you are surprised to see not only the Commander and the head scientist, a Bolian woman named Lenana Mosa, but also an Orion trader captain and her crew of two Nausicaans.

"Ah, welcome Captain Sumek, may I introduce you to Captain Paja Tajenko." He gestures to the Orion trader, who smiles at Sumek, then at Reiter. The Nausicaans stay in the background.

"A pleasure to meet you, Captain, Commander. Erich here was just telling me about you, a Galaxy Class starship, most impressive. We are but simple traders, and most in awe of such a powerful ship. Our ship just had a bit of a problem after running into an ion storm, so Eric is letting us stay here a bit to make our repairs. It's so nice to have such a friendly and helpful station commander in the area." Commander Johansson seems enthralled when Paja speaks, she in turn divides her attention between him and Reiter. She makes a gesture to the Nausicaans, who sets a small crate on the table and opens it before withdrawing to the side of the room.

Again smiling, she walks up to the crate and takes out several items. "Of course, as a good guest, I brought something for the host. First, something from Earth, I got these nice French wines from Chateau Picard. I've heard they are delightful. Also, some Delvan fluff pastries for dessert, and a Triaxian silk robe for you, Eric. I'm sure you'll look lovely in this!
Mar 24, 2017 9:27 pm
Sabin eyes the Orion captain and her gifts suspiciously and pulls out his tricorder to scan the gifts for any toxins, drugs, or anything else out of the ordinary. He will also use his Betazoid Telepathy to sense the Orion captain's surface thoughts and determine if she has any malicious intent.
OOC:
What rolls, if any, do I need to make for these?
Mar 24, 2017 9:43 pm
Paja puts up a show of being affronted by the lack of trust. "Oh surely that isn't neccesary. I'm no danger to you, am I Erich?" She brushes Commander Johansson' chin as she walks by him, then turns dramatically to Sabin. "Oh, take a look if you must. You won't find anything!"

The scan does not find any traces of lethal or otherwise harmful substances (other than tha alcohol in the wine, and the pastries are very fatty and sugary).

azira sent a note to Mr_Tricorder
OOC:
No rolls needed for the scanning. For the telepathy you might need rolls later (in stressful situations), but right now you can sense her surface thoughs without issue.
Mar 24, 2017 9:55 pm
Seemingly bored by the drama, the bolian scientist turns to Cordal. "You're Lieutenant Nosim, aren't you? I'm Leana, head of the science team here. We're extatic you got us those sensor arrays, we've been waiting on those for months. Once we get them online we should get a much better idea of what's happening to the star. This is such an exiting and rare oppurtunity to study a dying star. And the rate at which it is declining! It's absolutely remarkable, I've never heard of such a case before." She becomes enthusiastic as she talks about the potential of scientific discoveries, seemingly forgetting the other conversation in the room.
Mar 24, 2017 11:39 pm
Sabin glares at the Orion captain sternly and does not break eye contact with her as he puts away his tricorder and reports his findings.

The gifts are clean, sir.

His intense dark eyes stay fixed on hers a few moments longer as if to show he can see right through her.
Mar 25, 2017 12:28 am
Captain, it is a pleasure to meet you. Surely you take logical precautions with gifts offered you as well? As for Commander Johansson, having a friendly station commander would be most beneficial to traders. He nods his head slightly, intent on maintaining a diplomatic tone.
Mar 26, 2017 6:49 pm
Although the Orion is certainly attractive, Reiter finds her shade of green a little off-putting. Perhaps too close to the lima beans he really couldn't stomach as a child despite his mother's fondness of replicating them and putting them in seemingly everything. "A please to meet you, Captain Tajenko. How long have you known Commander Johansson?"
Mar 26, 2017 7:01 pm
His attentison still mainly on Paja, Cmnd. Johansson tries to take on on a cordial tone to smooth over Paja's somewhat confrontive stature. "Ah, yes. Keeping up diplomatic relations here out on the fronteer is one of my foremost priorities, after the scientific research we do of course. After all, we can't all be drifting around in galaxy class starships." He looks to Captain Sumek now. "Oh, congratulations on your new ship, Captain. You're lucky to get such a prominent position so early in your career, I must say I was suprised when I heard. Of course, I've got my hands full here with the station and all."

He pauses a bit before looking over the gifts, his attention once more on Captain Paja. "Oh, you're most kind, Paja. These gifts are most generous, and would be a welcome addition to our plesant dinner."

Gesturing to the set table, he again adresses you all. "Now, please sit down everyone. To begin with we have a most plesant Bolian Tomato Soup, a family recipe of Dr. Mosa here. Then we have a Luhvian quail for the main dish. I'm sure Paja's Delvan fluff pastries will be a nice finish to a plesant meal."

He smiles at you, then Paja, before walking over to the table and sittingdown, folding a napkin in his lap.
Mar 26, 2017 7:27 pm
Paja glowers at Lt.Cmnd. Jiral before sitting down next to Cmnd. Johansson, stroking his back as she walks behind him. After sitting down she asks Johansson in a sugary voice. "Erich. I meant to ask you earlier, but we were interrupted." She glances at Captain Sumek before continuing in a even sweeter voice. "My crew are getting so restless, claustrophobic even, in that very small and cramped ship of ours. It would be such a nice gesture of you if you'd allow my crew to come over and enjoy the entertainment facilities of this magnificent station of yours.
OOC:
You instantly realize that allowing an Orion crew open, or even limited, access to a Federation science research station is probably not a good idea.

Should you want to argue against it, then this is a Social Conflict against Johannson, but with Paja manipulation him. We'll alternate between you (any one of you at a time) and Paja, with each side getting a single Task (and associated activities, such as attempting to make a deal or present evidence), to try and persuade Johannson before handing over to the other side. The first to completely persuade Johannson to side with them gets what they want, and the situation proceeds from there. You (any one of you) may start.

You may continue non-task related conversation as you want (for example chatter between Nosim and Mosa or generic banter
Mar 27, 2017 6:09 pm
Codral matches Dr. Mosa's enthusiasm."Leana, please, call me Codral. Yes, I hope we're still here to see the scans! This phenomenon is fascinating, and provides a unique opportunity to study the properties of triolic radiation."

He shows her his live data feed on the sly and maneuvers to sit next to her at the table. Happy to have something scientific to occupy him, he makes a concerted effort to keep his eyes away from the Orion captain. He's never seen a female Orion before -- well, not in person. His stomach flutters a bit as he pushes away the memories of that holodeck program his friends at the academy dragged him into.

I'm happy to try and support someone talking the Commander off the cliff, but I picked the Adventurous XO rather than the Diplomatic one. :/
Mar 28, 2017 4:01 am
Sabin coldly addresses Captain Tajenko.

Commander Johansson is, no doubt, trying to find the most diplomatic way of telling you that would be quite impossible. This is a Federation research outpost, not an open port for shore leave.

He turns to Commander Johansson.

Sir, you do agree that the research you are conducting here requires proper security measures against allowing unauthorized personnel access to any station facilities should be followed, do you not?
OOC:
I would like to attempt the Social Conflict, but I'm not sure exactly how to start with the mechanics. I have Betazoid Telepathy which allows me to read surface thoughts and emotions, Cold Reading which gives me a bonus d20 when trying to tell if someone is lying or attempting to glean information from an unwilling person, and Interrogation which allows me to buy one or more bonus d20 by adding to Threat and allows me to re-roll my dice pool when attempting to uncover information from an unwilling person in a Social Conflict.
Mar 28, 2017 9:30 am
Dr. Mosa leans over to check out the data feed. "Absolutely facinating. The waves are being emitted from many locations within the star. We have done a comprehensive study of the make-up of the star, but haven't been able to determine the reason or source of the waves yet. We're hoping the new equiptment will shed some light on it."

She takes the data pad and points to a data point. "Take a look at this. Normally we'd see an energy buildup in this area of a decaying star, but as you see, the energy is simply vanishing. It's something we've never seen anywhere else, and the major reason this star is so interesting. Some in my team theorize that the energy is somehow slipping into another dimension, but we don't have any proof yet. In any case, we have been able to determine that the process of decay has been increasing exponentially over the past millennia. At the current rate we expect it to collapse within the next six months! We don't expect it to go nova when it does though, because of the vanishing energy.
OOC:
I'm not sure interrogation will help you here, unless you'd like to use a task to get evidence from Paja about her motives or other facts that can influence Cmdn Johansson. Otherwise I'll let you propose tasks that can convince the commander to deny them access. It sounds here that you're trying a Prescence + Command check to convince the commander that this isn't a very good idea. If you have a different suggestion of skill let me know. The Difficulty of this task would normally be 0 (very reasonable), but Paja has been smooth talking him, so it's now a 1
Mar 28, 2017 4:12 pm
OOC:
I'll attempt it then.

Paja shoots Sabin a cold stare, before adressing Johansson in her usual sugary voice. "Surely your'e not afraid of us? What danger could a few orion traders pose to such a mighty Federation station?"
OOC:
She get's an extra d20 on her task because of orion reasons. I'm having the difficulty at 2 for her though, since her request is a bit more unreasonable.

Somewhat chastesised by Sabin, Commander Johansson frowns. "You're right, Lietenant Commander, it is against protocol. But Paja has a point, and I can't see much harm in it, they seem peaceful enough. I'm sure she can keep her people in line, can't you Paja? And as the local Federation commander I've got the diplomatic relations to think of. Surely you can see that, here on the frontier we have to bend the rules some times." He smiles at Paja.
OOC:
You both made your DC's but paja has a complication. She will have +1 difficulty on her next check. The rules are a bit vague on this encounter, but I'm running it as an opposed task between you. The greatest amount of extra momentum wins. Any of you may try to make a new task to make a new argument or present evidence etc.
Mar 28, 2017 9:05 pm
Commander, are you aware that Paja is not being completely honest with you? She was lying about her ship needing repairs. Perhaps we should ask her to explain why she's really here before bending any rules for the sake of diplomatic relations.
OOC:
Because of Sabin's value A Responsibility to the Truth, I would like to use a point of Determination to add a bonus d20 with an automatic 1.

Sumek sits, quiet and contemplative, showing little reaction to the conversations around him.

This turmoil, it is bad and illogical. Both sides surely have their points but Federation security must be adhered to.

While I, of all people, can certainly appreciate the need to maintain a proper diplomatic stance. However, you know as well as I that the Federation, in its wisdom, has laid out protocols and protections for the good of the Federation. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one. It is only logical. You cannot allow access to the station, or you are derelict in your duty to the Federation sir. Sumek says, steady as ever.
OOC:

Sumek has quite the repository of stuff that would come to bear here. Chief value I can see would be: Needs of the Many Outweigh the Needs of the Few or the One as a value. I'll use it to also take determination to add a d20 @ a 1.

Presence of 9, Command of 4 for a discipline, and a focus of Diplomacy should make anything below a 4 also count as 2 successes.

Codral, oblivious to the power struggle, considers the pesky data point, with a concerned look on his face.

"But the energy has to go somewhere...it's possible that although we aren't able to detect it, the missing energy may still contribute to the star going nova. An untested hypothesis of "another dimension" is not enough to jeopardize a Federation station, or a starship. Are there any other hypotheses for the location of the missing energy? Anything falsifiable?"

Paja is a bit flustered at Jiral's accusations. "What? No.. We, we took extensive damage, we..." She tries to compose herself, looking to Commander Johansson. " I wouldn't lie to you, Erich."

Seemingly shocked at the news of lying, but still wanting to believe Paja, Commander Johannson composes himself and touches his comlink.

"Ops, please scan the Orion vessel for signs of damage, possibly from an ion storm." Turning to Sumek, he responds "Yes, yes, you're quite right, Captain. Let's see what Ops turn up though." He eyes Paja, who's now looking intently at her soup, suspiciously.

Seconds later the response comes from Ops. "Commander, Ops reporting. The orion ship seems in good shape, no trace of hull damage or stress corresponding with an ion storm." Commander Johannson gives Paja a stern stare and touches his combadge. "Thank you, Ops. That will be all."

"I'm not sure what you're playing at, Captain Tajenko, but it won't work here. You can stay if you'd like, but your crew is not entering this station."

Nodding at Jiral and Sumek, Johansson's tone is much milder. "Thank you for pointing out the protocols, gentlemen. I'm not sure what I was thinking." Taking a loaf of Bolian bread from a basket on the table, he makes an effort to normalize the situation.

"So, Captain Sumek. How is the Venture turning out? Crew settling in well?"
OOC:
Sabin managed to convince Johannson, so Sumek may keep his determination. The speech helped though.
Mar 29, 2017 11:51 pm
Reiter has watched Sabin and Sumek handle the station commander, so he takes to watching the Orion's reactions and trying to be very aware of what she's doing. He Grew Up On The Frontier, so he's aware that sometimes the rules have to bend -- but he's also very familiar with the Orion reputation; especially where the Federation's hand is lighter.

Quite well, Commander Johannson. The ship performs well, but I know the crew is eager to test her further. Always new places to scout and new diplomatic relationships to entrust to our fearless commanders. he says evenly, reaching for some bread of his own.
Mar 30, 2017 1:26 pm
Commander Erich chuckles a bit at the remark. "Glad to hear it. I'm quite interested to see what you uncover to be honest, It's an exiting time to be here in the expanse, lots to be learned." He takes a sip from the French wine, smiling delightedly at it.

The rest of the dinner passes rather uneventfully, with Sumek, Johansson, Reiter and Jiral conversing on the potential exploration missions and discoveries that can be made in the Shackleton Expanse. Meanwhile, Mosa and Nosim are discussing the finer points of the strange phenomenon. You learn that the triolic waves don't seem to pose any harm to human life at the station (due to distance and the shields), but they do cause occational interference with sensors and communication. You seem no closer to figuring out the conundrum of the missing energy. Tajenko eats in silence, and the Nausicaans stay in the background.

After dinner, Commander Johansson rises from his chair with an air of contentment, the conflict with Captain Tajenko all but forgotten. "Ah, that was a splendid meal, wouldn't you say. Thank you, Captain Tajenko, for your gifts, they were most welcome. Now, I know you're quite familiar with our loading bay, but would you like a greater tour of the station?"

"Certainly, Commander." Reiter actually isn't all that interested in a tour, because stations are all kind of the same in his book. But he's aware that they're guests and they need to be interested in what's on offer. "Unless, Captain, you have something else you need me to do while the Venture is away?"
Apr 4, 2017 5:34 pm

"Splendid. I thought we'd look at ops first, then take the turbolift our new science labs. Our engineers should be starting to fit the new equipment by now. Then perhaps we can go through main engineering on or way to the shuttle bays you're so familiar with. Oh, I appreciate the concern, Lietenant Commander Jiral, but we don't keep restricted information around. I'm sure you can keep an eye on our visitors in case we slip."

He walks over to the door, which opens to show you ops. The main view screen is focusing on the Osarin sun, which most of ops seems to be focusing on. There are currently four crew members on duty, two command staff, one engineer and one science, all lieutenants. A Vulcan science officer comes up to Commander Johansson as soon as you come out of the ready room, and speaks in a hushed tone.

Johansson turns to you and excuses himself. "I'm sorry, I need to look at the duty roster for tonight. Perhaps Dr. Mosa can continue the tour."
Apr 4, 2017 7:00 pm
"I'd be delighted." Turning to the viewscreen, Dr. Mosa points out the most interesting features of the star, and the areas they are hoping to get better data from. "...Especially this area. It seems the energy is disappearing somewhere between the photosphere and the corona, but we need better readings to understand exactly where, and what happens to it. I have some simulations of different thesis down in the lab. Speaking of, let's take the turbolift down." She walks up to the main turbolift and calls it.

Meanwhile Commander Johansson has gone over to the science console where he's speaking softly with the Vulcan.
Apr 4, 2017 8:04 pm
It would not make sense for us to separate, Commander Reiter. I am intrigued by the idea of a station tour. It is always good to see how the Federation is being represented throughout the galaxy, as well as what kinds of experiments are being carried out. Sumek says as he follows Johansson into Ops.
Apr 5, 2017 12:13 am
"Of course, sir." Reiter dutifully follows his captain on the tour. On the way to the turbolift, assuming the science station isn't far, he'll inquire of the Commander, "Everything alright, Commander?"
Apr 5, 2017 7:01 am
Briefly looking up from the screen, Johansson replies dryly. "All fine, Commander. We're seeing some heightened activity in the Osarin Sun, but that's routine here, nothing to worry about. You'll probably get a better overview over that situation from the science lab. And I better get on to those duty rosters. I'll catch up with you before you leave." He nods to you, but stays at the science station.

Meanwhile, the turbolift has arrived and Dr. Mosa has stepped into it.

"Oh, yes, sure. That should be ok." As you all get into the turbolift, along with Captain Tajenko and her guard, Dr. Mosa orders the llift to crew deck 1. The doors shut and it starts moving downwards.

A short way down the light starts to flicker. You all look to each other as the station shudders and the light goes out. The lift starts falling, and for several tense breaths you experience weightlessness in total darkness as the lift enters a free-fall. Then the light flickers again and the emergency brakes kick in to halt your fall. You are all thrown violently to the floor of the turbolift.

A few heartbeats of silence follow as you take a stock of the situation and gather your senses. The emergency lighting kicks in, and you are all bathed in dim red light. Moments later, the station shudders again, dropping the turbolift a few feet more. Sounds like something just exploded above you somewhere.
OOC:
I persume Sumek and Nosim have followed the rest into the lift, even though I haven't heard from you in a while. So you are all present in the turbolift, along with Mosa, Tajenko and two Nausicans.

Each of you must attempt a Daring or Fitness + Security Task of difficulty 3 to avoid taking damage from the fall and subsequent debris.

OOC:
Sumek and Nosim should have each contributed one to momentum, right?
Apr 10, 2017 4:26 pm
OOC:
You are correct, the party currently has 2 momentum. Also, remember you have the ability to get bonus dice adding threat to the GM's pool (1 threat = 1d20), should you find yourself without momentum or determination. You need to spend before rolling though. I'll wait for Reiter's task before resolving the action.
Apr 11, 2017 8:25 pm
OOC:
I totally forgot about getting bonus dice by adding threat. I didn't think we had any momentum since the last post in the resource tracking thread shows party momentum 0/6. I know it's too late for me to do anything now that I've rolled. That's my fault for not asking for clarification before rolling. I'll just hope Sabin isn't injured too badly.
Apr 11, 2017 10:26 pm
OOC:
Rolling for Reiter (since he's out skiing). I'm guessing he'd use one momentum from the pool.
Mr. Tricorder: Yeah, happens. Would have let you roll an extra, except it gets messy once you know how the rest rolled, so decided against it. Well, at least you have momentum to deal with the consequences.. ;)

When the lift goes, your Starfleet training kicks in and saves you all. All, except Jiral, who in sensing his fellow officers from the Venture being on top of the situation, but Dr. Mosa being taken off guard, sacrifices himself to safeguard her. Throwing himself across the room in pitch darkness, he manages to make sure she get's a grip on the safety railing. He himself is caught off balance in the act, and hits the floor hard in the final impact.
OOC:
Jiral takes 2 falling damage.
As the emergency lightning turns on you see you all made it, more or less. Dr. Mosa seems a bit frightened by the drop, the two nausicans look to be in high-alert mode, and Captain Tajenko isn't quite happy at this new development.

Apr 12, 2017 5:29 pm
Captain Tajenko, is it not true that you have issues with your own systems from time to time? Does your anger solve problems with your technology? We acknowledge that systems may fail. It is the reasoned response that ensures we repair and move forward well. We will collect our thoughts and proceed from here. Situation report, Venture officers.
Apr 12, 2017 5:45 pm
Codral asses the situation. He uses his tricorder that is tied into the station computer to check power levels, check the lift location, and scan the immediate location for additional danger -- falling again, debris on the lift, radiation leakage in the shaft and report.

If they're near enough to a turbo lift stop, he'll attempt to rig the doors to open; if not, he'll point out the location of the emergency hatch to the XO warn of any immediate danger of opening it.
OOC:
reason12+engineering 4, focus power systems? What Difficulty would you say?
Apr 12, 2017 8:37 pm
Sabin winces in pain as he picks himself off the ground. Carefully, he examines himself for injuries, quickly finding some superficial cuts and bruises. Hoping he did not suffer anything more serious than that, he deliberately flexes his arms and legs, rotates his neck back and forth, and pats down his torso before attempting to stand up.
OOC:
GM please let me know if Jiral is actually injured or if the damage is superficial.
Apr 12, 2017 10:08 pm
Tajenko is even more frustrated by Sumek's logic, and turns her back on you in a very dramatic "hrmpf!".

Cordal's tricorder shows the stations main systems are down. This means lights are dimmed, and none of the station’s major systems or operations function, including shields, transporters, communications, sensors, and main computer. You're not sure what the issue is, but you guess you'd probably need to get to Main Engineering to rectify it.

The turbolift is indeed trapped between stations. The crew quarters and the command center are above you, while engineering, science labs, storage and the transporter room is below you. You know there's a escape hatch in the top of the lift.
OOC:
Cordal: no roll required for this, you know what I've described, and you're unable to fix the problems from here. The focus will probably help once you get where you need to be..

Jiral: I ment to say Jiral took 2 stress, so no, he is not currenty injured.
Apr 12, 2017 10:08 pm
Dr. Mosa also get's on her feet, and looks to Captain Sumek, as the commanding officer. "I need to get to my lab. There seemed to be increased activity from the sun, that has to be connected. Only.." She looks thoughtful for a moment. "I suppose my lab isn't much use without main power. What do we do, Sir?"
Apr 12, 2017 11:37 pm
Sabin addresses Captain Sumek.

"Captain, the emergency stops on the turbolift should not have allowed the lift to drop a second time. That explosion may have damaged the safety mechanisms keeping us stable. With your permission, I would like to check the damage to the turboshaft through the escape hatch. I recommend everyone else remain very still for the time being."

Make it so, Lieutenant Commander. Dr. Mosa, once we have the results of Lieutenant Commander Jiral's inspection, we will proceed to main engineering. Once there, we will establish power grid control and then make a new plan from there. Captain Tajenko, you will have part of your wish. You will accompany us under emergency protocols. You are to speak of none of this. Sumek says, his mind already piecing together future steps.
Apr 13, 2017 2:31 am
Sabin turns to Commander Reiter and signals that he needs a boost.
OOC:
I am assuming that Reiter understands and successfully assists with the boost.
With Reiter's assistance, Sabin reaches the latch for the emergency hatch and opens it. Carefully, he reaches through the open hatch and hoists himself up by pressing his arms down on the outside of the opening. Slowly, he pulls himself out of the opening and lays prone on the top surface of the lift. Careful to spread himself out and disperse his weight as evenly as possible, he moves around to inspect as much as he can of the turboshaft and safety mechanisms on the turbolift.
OOC:
GM please let me know what rolls, if any, I need to make.
Apr 14, 2017 9:50 pm
Looking up, Jiral sees flames shooting out into the turbolift shaft from where you surmise the command center is/was located. The rest of the shaft looks mechanically sound, thought the turbolift itself is stuck hard, semi-fused to the shaft due to the heat of the emergency brakes.
OOC:
No roll required to get out on top of the turbolift, but climbing up or down the turbo shaft requires a Daring or Control + Security Task with a Difficulty of 1 (per level, for each person attempting it).
Apr 15, 2017 2:08 am
Sabin raises himself to a kneeling position and looks down into the turbolift.

"It looks like the turbolift is stuck hard and nearly fused to the shaft, so we don't need to worry about free-fall here. It looks like the explosion came from the command center. I still see flames coming from the top of the shaft, so the damage must be severe.

"Captain, I recommend we proceed to the station's security office. With the command center out, they are most likely to have the most information about what is happening. They would also be able to..."

Sabin pauses to rephrase what he is about to say a bit more diplomatically.
"...keep our guests safe."
Apr 15, 2017 11:31 am
Looking outraged at the prospect of being locked up in such a situation, Captain Tajenko turns back to you, glaring at Jiral. "I will not be locked up while this station is in dire straits. Who knows what's happening here? It's practically a death sentence to lock us up if anything more happens to the station."

She turns to Captain Sumek. "Whatever is happening, you need our help, Captain. And you have no reason to lock us up!" The two nausicaans move up behind her, they look ready for fight at her slightest word.
OOC:
The station has a small security office with a single holding cell at the storage level.
Apr 16, 2017 6:45 pm
"Is your ship still docked to the station, Captain? Perhaps we could see you safely there -- enabling you to be away from the station and secure." Reiter offers.

Sabin holds up a hand in Lt. Nosim's path to stop him.

"Slow down, Lieutenant. This lift is wedged in tight and not going anywhere anytime soon. We can afford to take a moment and decide where we need to go instead of blindly charging through the nearest door. At the very least, we should scan to see what's on the other side of the door first."

Sabin stands up and pulls out his tricorder to scan past the nearest door.
Apr 17, 2017 8:21 pm
Yes, my ship should still be in orbit around this mess of a station. She turns to one of her bodyguards, who give her a comlink. She keys it and hails her ship.

"Thelv. Tajenko here. What's happening?" You hear static from the comlink, and Tajenko seems a bit worried at this. "Thelv. Quit mucking about. How is my ship doing? Thelv?" After a few more tries she throws the comlink to the wall, breaking it.

She turns back to Reiter. "Damned static! We need to get to a comms panel, or failing that a bloody window! I need to know what's happened to my ship!"
Apr 17, 2017 8:22 pm
As to emphasize Jiral's caution, the ladder Nosim was about to climb fails. It detatches with a great metallic groan and falls down inches from you.
OOC:
Should you wish to go upwards, you'll need to find an alternate route through the nearest jeffries tube (possibly costing you half an hour or so).

Jiral's scans show dangerous levels of triolic radiation flooding the station, which is also probably what's interfering with coms. The nearest levels are the crew quarters half a level up, and the science labs half a level down. The radiation makes it very hard to make something out, except that there are more structural damages to both stairs and EPS conduits that could cause more complications for anyone climbing up or down.
OOC:
The radiation has gotten so bad, that without the shields anyone on the station reduces their maximum Stress by one every hour. Try a reason+science or reason+engineering check with a difficulty of 2 to try to get more from the scans.
Apr 18, 2017 2:53 am
"This does not look good, Captain. The station is being flooded with dangerous levels of triolic radiation. There's also a good deal of structural damage to stairs and EPS conduits, so we're going to have a difficult time moving around the station. We're stuck in-between crew quarters..."

Sabin points up.

"... and science labs."

He points down.

"I can't get much else with this tricorder, but I may be able to sense what's going on nearby."

Sabin puts away his tricorder and closes his eyes to concentrate. Taking a deep breath, he reaches out with his mind to search for the thoughts and feelings of others nearby. He's not so concerned with the contents of each individual's thoughts, but is instead trying to determine the overall tone and intensity of thoughts and feelings immediately outside of the turbolift. He also tries to determine if those thoughts and feelings are coming more strongly from the crew quarters, the science labs, or possibly somewhere else.

Feeling that another scanner is unlikely to help, Reiter begins considering some tactical options. "Is there anything other than shielding that will protect us from triolic radiation? Are we getting a sense of the source? I assume it's the main star of the system, but if not, that'd be good to know."
Apr 18, 2017 9:57 pm
Sabin's eyes snap open. His stance takes on a sudden sense of urgency.

"Someone is still alive in the command center! Captain, whomever it is won't last long up there without our help."

He reaches down through the hatch as an offer to help the rest of the group up out of the turbolift.

"We should hurry, sir" he says to Captain Sumek. "There's more, but I can fill you in on what else I sensed once we get moving."
Apr 18, 2017 10:19 pm
Reiter is not one to shy away from adventure -- or a rescue mission. He hops up to the top of the elevator with Sabin's help and begins to eye the best path up. "Two levels, Commander?"
Apr 19, 2017 7:18 am
"The triolic radiation has so far originated in the upper mantle of the star. Although the hull does protect us from some of the radiation, nothing short of getting the shields up or moving the station out of the system will get us down to safe levels. We might be able to treat the radiation sickness from the lab though. I understand some of you have medical training?"

Turning to Jiral, Mosa exclames: "What? Is that where the explosion was? Ops? How many survived?" She looks a bit shaken at the thought of humanoid casualties.
Apr 19, 2017 7:20 am
Sumek's scans comfirm what Jiral said. There is a single feint lifesign from the command center, and the ambient temperature of the crew quarters suggest there is still a fire going on in there. There are also a handful of stable lifesigns from the crew quarters level and science labs, otherwise the station seems empty. And as far as you can tell, the radiation is coming from the systems sun. You also see some strange energy fluctuations from main engineering, but you'll probably have to get closer to find out what's happening there.
OOC:
You made 2 new momentum (spent 1, gained 3), new party momentum is 3/6

Codral wants to dash straight to engineering, but holds off in case this rescue operation requires his technical ability -- and to assess Ops functionality. He takes the offered hand and follows along.
Apr 21, 2017 1:16 am
Reiter turns to Sumek and the Orion captain, "Captains, perhaps we should split up and cover more ground. Maybe Paja and her colleagues can try to assist some of the stranded crew, some of us can make our way back to Ops to help out whomever is up there and another party can head to main engineering and try and get both power and shields back online."
Apr 21, 2017 2:07 am
Yes, splitting up may be the quickest resolution. Please take Captain Pajenko and Lieutenant Commander Jiral with you to the Command Center. Codral and Dr. Mosa will accompany me to main engineering where we will endeavor to restore shielding and emergency power to the station. Stay wary Commander. Sumek says, weighing options in his head as quickly as he can.
Apr 21, 2017 7:02 am
Captain Tajenko looks thoughtful, then nods. "Wery well, Captain. We'll accompany the Commander." She gestures to her bodyguards, who boost eachother up the escape hatch, then pull her up after them.

She turns to Reiter. "So, commander.. How are you planning to get up there with the ladder missing? Through the 'goffry-tubes'?"
Apr 21, 2017 7:07 am
"As you wish, Captain." She nods to Sumek, then pulls herself out of the turbolift. Once there, she turns to Reiter. "Oh, Commander. Good luck with the rescue up there. I hope you're able to save them."
OOC:
Nosim and Sumek give me a Daring or Control + Security Task with a Difficulty of 1 for climbing down a level.

Reiter and Jiral, feel free to come up with ideas of bypassing the ladder, or try going the through Jefferies tubes on the way up. Someone make a Reason+Engineering or Reason+Conn check to navigate the tubes properly.
Apr 22, 2017 2:27 am
Sabin looks dubiously at Captain Tajenko, but decides to push his misgivings aside for the sake of the task at hand. Turning to Reiter, he asks, "Commander, the Jefferies tubes will take time to navigate; time we may not have. However, it may be possible to pull some ODN cabling from behind the panels in the turbolift and use that as rope. If we could fashion something that could work like a grappling hook and tie it to the end of the cabling, we could use it to climb up the shaft. I don't know if that sort of rig could hold our weight though."

Jiral opens a panel and rips out som ODN cabling, fashoning a provisory grappling hook from a rung dislodged from the fallen ladder. He throws it up, and catches the ladder above on the second try. But as he checks the strength on the hold and cable, it snaps, making it clear that this ODN cabling isn't going to be much use as a rope. Tajenko seems a bit amused at the display, but keeps silent.

Nosim, Sumek and Dr. Mosa have better success in traveling down. You find yourself in a crawlspace one level below. The station seems to have taken less damage here, and Dr. Mosa tells you that you're on the science labs level. Below you is the transporter room and shuttlebay level. Below it is Main Engineeering.

The climb downwards continues without incident. Sumek, Cordal and Mosa find themselves on the transporter room and storage level, with main engineering a single level down. It's eerily silent down here without the distinct warpcore humming you would normally hear this close to main engineering.
OOC:
The lower team is a bit ahead in the timeline now, but since the upper team will probably have to spend some extra time getting up there, that shouldn't be a problem. It's either 2 or 3 successes. I know previously if you had a focus and you rolled less than or equal to that number, it counted as 2. With the removal of "ranked" focuses, does this transfer to the Discipline? So Sumek's Security discipline is a 3, meaning 1, 2, or 3 would yield 2 successes. Either way, doesn't matter in this instance, as we're topped up on momentum, but for future cases it could be important.

Of course. As long as you can have it make narrative sense you can spend it on anything. Common uses other than Create Oppertunity:

- Create Problem: spend 1 momentum to increase the difficulty of a task for an opponent (must be done before the task is rolled)
- Obtain Information: spend 1 momentum to get 1 question about the current situation, an item, object, structure or character present or relevant to the scene at hand.
- Create advantage: spend 2 momentum to establish a new fact about the scene, location or the characters involved which is benificial to the character or group, or remove a complication. (must be related to the nature of the task attemted or can logically result from your actions). (page18 of the rules)

Apr 25, 2017 8:58 pm
Still in the turboshaft, Sabin comes to the conclusion that it may simply be too difficult to take a direct route up the turboshaft with no ladder or usable rope. The Jeffries tubes seem to be the best option at this time.

"Commander, I think we'll need to use the Jeffries tubes to reach the command center. I recommend you take point, sir. Tajenko and her... associates can follow your lead. I'll bring up the rear."

She walks to the nearest intersection and looks up and down the hallway. "Commander. Is there a porthole or window somewhere? I'd like to check on my ship." Her voice turns sugary sweet for a moment. "Surely, as a fellow officer, you must know how it feels not to know how the people under your command are doing."
Apr 27, 2017 9:40 pm
Sabin steps between Paja and Commander Reiter and gives Paja a look of cold warning. "We need to stay focused on reaching the command center as quickly as possible. I understand your concern for your ship, but as long as there is at least one person alive and in need of our help in the command center, checking on your ship will have to wait."

Theoretically, we wouldn't necessarily need to waste them if we took better advantage of the other momentum uses bit. For example, Sumek could have used that bonus momentum plus one to establish a fact of the scene. Not fully sure what Sumek would have done in that avenue, possibly something like "On their way do engineering, Dr. Mosa did recall one key change the engineers made: a hidden access panel around the bend from the main door." to establish a second area they could use to get in or something like that. Either way, I would agree that there needs to be some kind of modification to the momentum system somehow.

OOC:
You've spent approximately an hour on getting to where you are now, your maximum stress is reduced by 1 due to radiation poisoning
Main Engineering
Sumek, Nosim and Dr. Mosa make it down to the Engineering level. Main engineering is a large circular room at the very base of the station. The fusion reactor takes up the center of the room, and the walls are lined with computer monitors and control panels that should allow for complete control of the stations functions.

As you enter main engineering you see the remains of an explosion. Two starfleet engineers lay haphazardly in front of a shattered panel, where a jet of plasma is burning out of a broken EPS conduit. The automatic fire suppression seems to have stopped the worst of it, but someone will have to deal with the plasma flow manually.

Dr. Mosa runs up to the engineers and check their pulse. She looks up at you and nods sadly. "Dead. Both of them"
OOC:
Shutting down the plasma flow is a Daring+Engineering Task with a difficulty of 2

Command Center
Reiter, Jiral and the Orions finally make it to the upper levels. The Command Center is at the very top of the station. You can se smoke and flames spouting out of the doorway. A quick tricorder scan shows the sole survivor is still clinging to life, barely.

When shielding your eyes from the flame, you can barely make out the figure of Commander Johannson in the center of the room, his Vulcan next in command laying in top of him in a brave attempt to shield him from the blast. Looking down at the tricorder again, you see the Commander is the sole survivor.

Paja snorts and proclames arroganlty. "Great. It's a big ball of fire. Can we go somewhere else now, please?" Her bodyguards laugh on cue.
OOC:
If someone were to simply go in and get him, they would need to attempt a Daring or Fitness + Security Task with a diffifulty of 1 to resist the heat (every momentum mitigates 1 damage from the heat)

Also, remember I simply suggest tasks to make things go faster, you are in no way limited to my suggestions. Feel free to come up with other things to do.
May 6, 2017 12:47 am
Codral grabs the tools he needs from a nearby compartment and moves to the control panel, taking care to avoid the plasma.

Should be just a simple redirect and shutdown of the local circuit...
OOC:

Cordal shuts down the correct plasma conduit, safely redirecting it to several nearby conduits that had excess capacity. Looking up at the flames, you see them gently wind down as the fire suppression systems do the rest of the work.
OOC:
Power systems is indeed a good focus for this task.

The flames lick around Jiral as he goes in and drags the unconscious Commander out of the inferno. His instincts help him avoid the brunt of the flames, but his back is singed while shielding the Commander on the way out.

Nosim re-balances the power from the fusion drive, shutting off non-essensial systems and restores power to the core computer, lighting to the main corridors and rooms, and even finds some spare power to partial shields. However, you see there is still a massive amount of power that is drained from the core - apparently being siphoned off to nowhere.

azira sent a note to Cmbrian
OOC:
Good use of momentum. I can't make any promises for the future, but you won't take radiation strain for the next hour at least.
Also, No, Tajenko is not responsible for the explosion.

Command Center
Just as Jiral carries the limp Commander out of the Inferno that was the Command Center, and gingerly puts him down in the hallway, the light in the corridor turns on.
May 10, 2017 12:42 pm
Nosim, do we have any way of tracing that siphoning of power or to shut it down? Sumek asks, trying to plan out the next move. Doctor Mosa, do you have any idea why power would be siphoned off to seemingly nowhere?
May 10, 2017 6:36 pm
Still staring at the dead engineers, Dr. Mosa shakes hear head as to clear it on hearing her name. She looks to Cpt. Sumek an nods, walking up to the nearest terminal. "Hmm.. Internal sensors and coms are still down, but I can confirm the energy drain."

She picks up a nearby tricorder, and scans the room. "I don't get much from this, but I still see triolic radiation. Hm.. Nosim, didn't you say you got the shields up?" A frown breaks out on her face as she studies the readouts, then takes a few steps to one side, then the other. "Strange..." She walks one orbit around the fusion reactor while studying the tricorder intently, then stops in front of Cpt. Sumek. "Ok, I haven't seen that before.." She looks up, worry on her face. "The radiation.. It's coming from the fusion reactor. We only saw it from the sun before, now it's.. It's here!"
May 10, 2017 8:15 pm
What could cause triolic radiation from our reactor? This is not my area of study, as you may have guessed.
May 16, 2017 4:39 am
"It's not clear, Captain. Triolic radiation is a very rare phenomenon. Starfleet reactors should not produce it as a product or byproduct."

He tries his scanner, the ships scanner, if he can get it to operate. On a whim, with his hand held he tries scanning for biological signatures.
OOC:
use one momentum to get information: 'Why is the reactor giving off triolic radiation?'
May 16, 2017 7:20 am
Looking at the scanner, Nosim sees some strange readings. It could be liveforms, you're not sure. Now that you think about it, the radiation signature has variances that look like they could come from something alive. But there is nothing there to see. It's as if you are indirectly observing a strange lifeform. You cross reference this with the data from the reactor, and see the same pattern. It's as if something, or someone, is sucking the energy out of the reactor.
OOC:
Good guess on the whim. The strange "might be life" phenomenon looks related to the radiation. You're fairly certain that there is something alive here that you can't see.

Party momentum 5/6

Analyzing the data to find out what this "potential lifeform" is is a Timed, Extended Task with a Progress of 10 and a Magnitude of 4, and Resistance Soak of 4, with a Difficulty of 4.

Each Task towards the Extended Task has an Increment of 30 minutes. If you get to the Science Lab you may enlist the scientists to assist the you in this analysis. For every four Scientists involved, each Effect rolled ignores 1 Resistance Soak. As long as Mosa is involved, each Effect rolled also adds +1 to the Progress generated.
May 24, 2017 3:29 am
"Captain, I'm sensing possible life form readings related to the radiation. I need to model this data and have the computer perform some iterative analytics -- put the AI to work. Mosa, can you please assist? If only there were a science lab near by where we could tie multiple processors into a neural network...are there any data scientists on the station that could help?"

After hearing that the science lab is near by, Nosim and Mosa move quickly to that location, enlisting the help of the scientists there.

"I'm streaming the data readings from the reactor and the sun into the network. I'd like you to construct a geospatial predictive model -- start with a multilayered decision tree, then combine that with multinomial logistic regression with clustering. We're attempting to examine the phenomenon as if it had the complexities of a living organism. Here, I'll show you..."

Clearly wearing his values on his sleeve "understands technology better than people" & "young prodigy", Codral begins the investigation.

OOC:
The science lab is in the upper levels, I'm afraid. Assuming you do what you can from here, so no reduction in soak. Skill and focus is ok. Use of value would be ok, but re-reading the 1.36 rules, it now costs determination to invoke it (you can either get an extra d20 that has rolled a 1, reduce difficulty by 1, make an extra task in the same amount of time or create an advantage).

So results: I count 4 successes, 4 progress, 4 soak, which means no progress made. You can always move up to the science lab (which might take some time), use determination, or have Sumek assist. And yes, I do believe you have to declare use of threat or determination before rolling.

Party momentum 3/6
Nosim and Mosa begin setting up queries for gathering and handling the data from the internal sensors. The scans are intriguing, but you struggle to find a clear image of whatever is causing the energy drain or the radiation.

Dr. Mosa sighs and looks up from the engineering terminal. "I'm having trouble getting to the source of this. Should we move up to the science labs? My team should be able to help, and we have better equipment there. We might also be able to cross reference with the historical data from the star."

Jiral breathes a sigh of relief and wipes some sweat and grime from his forehead.

He's stable for now, but he needs serious medical attention or he's probably not waking up.

Only now does Jiral take in the level of death and destruction he saw during his brief run in the scorched ruins of the command center with the burnt remains of the station crew members that were less fortunate than Commander Johansson. Sabin's eyes flash with anger and frustration as he snaps his gaze on Paja. Involuntarily, he projects a flash of hostility as he rushes towards her threateningly and shouts, "If you had ANYTHING to do with this, I swear I will.."

He's cut off by Commander Reiter who, reacting to the projected flash of hostility, jumps up to intercept the enraged security officer. "STAND DOWN, LIEUTENANT COMMANDER!" he yells into Sabin's face, a bit more aggressively than he intended.

Jiral stares hard into Reiter's face for several seconds. Then gradually his anger subsides. Sabin takes a deep breath, exhales, and then looks away, somewhat embarrassed at his outburst. "I apologize, sir," he says contritely, "It won't happen again."

"Good," Reiter says, visibly relaxing back into his normal friendly disposition. "Now, let's put out this fire and see if we can figure out what the hell happened here."

Reiter and Jiral search for a way to put out the fire, perhaps by evacuating the oxygen from the command center or restarting the fire suppression systems. Jiral is also continuing to keep a mental watch on Paja.

The nausicans step protectively in front of Paja, who gives Jiral a furious glare.

You notice again that the station has regained some power, and manage to access the emergency fire suppression system from a console in the hallway. Power levels are low, very little is coming out of main engineering, but you manage to route enough over to the fire suppression system to put out the fires in the command center.

Looking over the scene of destruction, you assume it will take some time for the ambient temperature to drop to comfortable levels in there, and most the consoles and equipment looks salvageable. But at least the fire won't be spreading.

Meanwhile, Paja turns her back on you and stomps down a connecting corridor, her entourage in tow.
OOC:
Dramasailor: I'm afraid assistance only allows for 1d20, so I'm discounting the secondary rolls, and I'll assume it was for the roll cmbrian already made (so you're free to either move to the labs or try again from main engineering). In any case, the party momentum is still 2/6
Jun 4, 2017 6:32 pm
Reiter watches the Orion leave with some trepidation. "I suspect she's up to no good -- but there's not a lot we can do unless we want to restrain her -- and we don't really have the manpower to do that." He looks down at the station commander. "I'm hesitant to move him..."

Tapping his badge he says, "Computer. What's the situation in medical?"
Jun 4, 2017 9:31 pm
The computer replies immediately. "Medical facilities in the science lab operational. Minimal damage to non-essensial systems due to an overload in the eps system."
Jun 4, 2017 10:01 pm
Reiter nods, "Can we effect an emergency transport of Commander Johansson to the medical facilities, Computer?"
Jun 5, 2017 7:24 pm
"Transporters are offline. Power restricted to essential systems and main engineering."
Jun 7, 2017 3:41 am
"Naturally." He looks down, trying to establish if physically moving the Commander is a better option than leaving him here and getting the transporters up and running to move him more safely.
OOC:
Need a roll?
Jun 7, 2017 6:32 am
OOC:
Only if you want to generate momentum (remember there is still a danger of complications if you do). He's stable enough for moving.
Jun 8, 2017 3:45 am
"Well if he's in bad shape -- our first order of business should be to get him to medical -- give me a hand here, Jiral... Computer -- in the mean time, please keep an eye out on the Orion captain and alert us if she appears to head into a restricted space."
Jun 8, 2017 7:20 am
"Affermative. Orion captain is currently in the commander's ready room."
Jun 8, 2017 3:05 pm
Jiral assists Reiter in lifting up the Commander and begin moving him in the direction of the infirmary.

"Computer, seal the door to the Commander's ready room and lock out all consoles within. Security authorization Jiral-Delta-Echo-Hotel-seven-eight-eight-three."

He looks to Reiter. "I may have been out of line earlier, but I still don't trust her and would rather keep her contained no matter how furious she gets."
Jun 8, 2017 7:06 pm
"Affirmative." You hear doors closing down the hall, then muffled clanging. "Ready room locked and secure."
Jun 9, 2017 4:09 am
Reiter looks at Jiral and cocks an eyebrow. With an exaggerated glance around the command area he says, "Well, I do believe you're the seniormost security officer on the station now. Who am I to argue with your professional opinion?". A smirk is difficult to hide.
Jun 13, 2017 4:05 am
Assuming that there's a need to get the Commander somewhere safe, Reiter works with Sabin to gently lift Johansson up and begins the steady trudge towards science and the medical bay. Perhaps he will encounter the rest of the command crew there -- failing that, he can at least ensure Johansson is secured.
Jun 13, 2017 7:00 am
OOC:
Cmbrian & Dramasailor, will Sumek and Nosim be relocating to the science labs, or stay in main engineering?

If you are, I think we'll handwave the move, saying it took you half an hour, and the one hour of radiation safety you got will be over. You'll all meet up in the science labs. If you don't relocate, you can make another check on that extended task instead.
Jun 13, 2017 6:34 pm
OOC:
Definitely move. Need the help.
Jun 14, 2017 6:11 am
OOC:
Affirmative. It will be good to get the team back together again too. Timeline merger!
Reiter and Jiral gently walks the unconscious commander to the jeffries tube you came from, and lowers him down level by level until you are on the Science Lab level. As you come into the corridor near the labs, you see this area is less damaged than the upper levels. In the lab itself you see a small team of science officers patching up some minor injuries for those that have made their way here by themselves. Mostly broken bones, concussions and minor burns. When they see you coming in with the commander, they immediately clear the biobed for him.

Reiter takes charge and places Commander Johansson under induced coma. He is hooked up to the bio monitors, and a wide field dermal regenerator starts treating his burns.

A few minutes after the procedure is started, Captain Sumek, Junior Lieutenant Cordal and Dr. Mosa walk into the science lab.
OOC:
To recap, progress on the extended task is 2/10, magnitude and difficulty is still 4. There are enough scientists available to ignore 2 soak, so new soak is 2 as long as they are available.

Party momentum 2/6.
Jun 14, 2017 12:46 pm
OOC:
Definitely agree with moving to the lab to meet up with everyone else.
Ah, so good to see the rest of you. What has happened to Commander Johansson? Sumek says, casting a glance to the unconscious officer.
Jun 14, 2017 1:29 pm
Jiral, being ever vigilant, is the first to notice Captain Sumek, Lieutenant Cordal, and Dr. Mosa. Satisfied that Commander Johansson is in good hands, he walks over to the newcomers.

"Captain, we found Commander Johansson in the wreckage of the command center. He's in rough shape, but it looks like we brought him here just in time."
Jun 16, 2017 3:23 am
Reiter nods his assent, "With what training I have, we've been able to stabilize him. Perhaps the medical facilities here can do more good than Sabin and I could. How about you Captain? What news do you have?"
Jun 16, 2017 8:05 pm
We restored some measure of power and discovered through Codral's efforts and my own that there is a major source of triolic radiation in the station's reactor. Something living. We were hoping we'd have enough support here to do a proper modelling and assessment to determine a logical course of action.
Jun 16, 2017 9:06 pm
Jiral looks from Captain Sumek to Codral and Dr. Mosa.

"How could something living get into the station's reactor?"

Jiral pays special attention to Dr. Mosa's thoughts and emotional state. He can tell something isn't adding up here between the station commander's recent behavior, the accident, and the revelation that there are potentially living beings in the station's reactor.

"A good question, Lieutenant Commander, I hope we can figure out. Even better ones are 'What is it?' and 'Where did it come from?'." Mosa walks up to one of the workstations and brings up the newest scans from the star. She gestures to her team, who go to their own stations and bring up different readings.

"Captain Sumek, do you have any particular direction of inquiry you wish us to start with?" She drags out a chair next to her station and beckons Cordal.

How big is this station? Could all its inhabitants be taken on board the Venture? I ask for roleplaying purposes.
Jun 19, 2017 8:24 am
OOC:
This is a fairly small research station, too small for the Venture to dock. The venture is way about the same mass, but there are less crew currently at the station, so yes all the current inhabitants should be able to get on board.
Jun 19, 2017 2:22 pm
"Captain," Reiter intrudes, "Perhaps we should attempt to raise the Venture and have it return here. We could evacuate the staff aboard, keeping only those here who are critical in the research of the reactor. Moreover we could augment any research with our own staff?"
Jun 19, 2017 3:54 pm
"Captain, I agree with Commander Reiter," Jiral adds. "We have a responsibility here to ensure the safety and security of the station personnel. Jun 20, 2017 1:46 pm

Dr. Mosa looks around at her team. "Any of you wish to evacuate to the Venture?" They all shake their heads, and one of them, a young ensign speaks for them. "And miss the biggest scientific mystery of our lifetime? Don't think so."

Mosa nods knowingly. "I'm glad you feel that way too." She turns back to Jiral. "I'd like to keep my team here, but any others on the station should be evacuated if possible. Make sure the Venture knows what we are dealing with though, so they can take appropriate measures to ensure nothing hitches a ride on the transport beam." She frowns a bit, and adds. "Before you ask, Lieutenant Commander, I don't know if that is lightly or even possible, but we should take all precautions we can to avoid this spreading. Of course, they could be dealing with the same issues too, we don't know before we make contact."

"Hailing the U.S.S. Venture." A minute passes, two. People start stealing glances at Reiter and Sumek as time drags on.
Jun 22, 2017 5:34 am
Mosa turns around in her chair and enters some commands on another console. "Commander, Captain. You better see this." She brings up a view of the U.S.S. Venture on a nearby viewscreen. It is whole, but most of the ship seems to be dark. Here and there some external lights flicker on and off. "Structually, she's sound, sir. But they seem to be experiencing the same issues as us. Should I start broadcasting what we know so far? If they are able to receive, it might help them to isolate the problem?"
Jun 22, 2017 1:21 pm
Reiter frowns at his console before joining Dr. Mosa for her news. He looks to his Captain and says, "That sounds like a good plan. Sir? What's your perspective?"
Jun 22, 2017 1:42 pm
Jiral focuses on the image if the Venture on the viewscreen and reaches out with his mind to hear the thoughts of anyone on board in order to get a sense of what is happening over there.
Jun 22, 2017 2:19 pm
Yes, send a message with the minimum details needed to suss out the solution. Mention nothing of the life form, if it can live in a reactor, it may be able to also hear our transmissions. Sumek offers.
Jun 23, 2017 5:37 am
Reiter nods his assent to his captain's logic and looks over to Doctor Mosa.
Jun 23, 2017 6:09 am
Mosa nods. "I can mask it as a general warning broadcast." She taps a command on the console, recording a looping message. "Epsilon 19 Science Station calling all ships in the sector. The Osarin solar system is now off limits, due to heightened triolic radiation activity. The radiation is interfering with ship and station energy systems. Shields mitigate the effect on biological sources, but don't have an effect on the power drain. If you are experiencing power drain we suggest setting the following warp chamber parameters...." She continues with a list of the adjustments Jr.Lt. Nosim made to the station core when he stabilized it.
Jun 23, 2017 6:26 am
Meanwhile, Lt.(JGr) Nosim is lost in a deep analysis of the Sun. The improved equipment and access to the scientists who have better expertise in Stellar Science makes the job a lot easier from here.
OOC:
I'll assume Nosim is working on the analysis problem. Anyone who want's to assist roll 1d20 for an appropirate skill (Reason+Science if you're helping directly, or Presence+Command if you are overseeing etc). Also, should Nosim take a momentum from the pool?

To recap, progress on the extended task is 2/10, magnitude and difficulty is still 4. There are enough scientists available to ignore 2 soak, so new soak is 2 as long as they are available.

OOC:
I'm comfortable raiding the momentum pool to help with the task.
Although overseeing detailed scientific work like this isn't precisely Reiter's strong point (he's suspicious the Captain has significant advantage here), he nonetheless does what he can to assist. Rather than participating directly in the research, he occasionally asks a pointed question to get the scientists out of a mental block or looking at the problem from a different, but hopefully not obvious angle.

"Why do you say that? What are the ramifications of the inverted alpha waves at those frequencies?

"Triolic radition is quite dangerous to living tissue -- but it doesn't just arise naturally in these concentrations. Have you thought about what could generate a triolic source of that magnitude?"

I count 3 progress from CD + 1 from effect due to Mosa. 2 are eaten by soak, so the new progress is 4/10, just short of a breakthrough. Party momentum 1/6

Meanwhile, the 20 causes a complication...
Even with the improved equipment, it proves to be difficult to isolate and detect the lifesigns. In an attempt to get a clearer picture, you decide to ramp up the scanner intensity, but the lifeforms seem to respond badly to this. The station shakes and the lights flicker as a massive power drain pulses through the station. As the systems come back on again, you realize there is no longer enough power to keep the shields up. Radiation levels rise rapidly.

Reiter spends what time he can monitoring the Venture and moving between stations to assist people, and or buck-up their morale. This is hard work -- pushing at the edges of our understanding of the universe, and people can be easily discouraged.
OOC:
Happy to roll something...

Reiter: you can assist a new check or do a medicine task to try to mitigate the radiaton damage.
Jul 7, 2017 3:16 am

Reiter's assist fails. Count 3 successes for Jiral, Party momentum still 4/6.
Jiral can sense the Venture's current bridge and engineering crew are trying to figure out what's draining power from the engines. The power drain was threatening to either drain all the energy, leaving nothing for life support, or simply overload the core, which would cause a catastrophic breakdown. After Dr. Mosa's transmission, however, they seem to be making some progress. She hinted at the method Cordal used to stabilize the core, and they are now trying to use the same method to siphon off some power for shields and life support.

OOC:
I'll Roll a new task for Cordal, assuming Sumek assits, and you spend two momentum.

Counting 6 successes, which makes 2 momentum after success. I'll spend one of these for piercing (ignoring the remainding soak, and one to get 1 extra progress.

I count 5 progress, and a breakthrough. New progress is 9/10. Party momentum 2/6. Breaktrhoughs 1/4, Difficuly is now 3

After the next try you'll again get reduced max strain. You may try a Difficulty 2 medicine check to combat this, or you may try to focus on the task. I'll roll again for Cordal when the rest of you have decided what to do.
Cordal and Sumek spends some time trying different phase variants until they make a breakthrough. It seems the lifeforms are slightly out of phase with our reality, and they are now honing in on what the variance is. Once that has been determined it should be much easier to identify the nature of the lifeforms.

Reiter's efforts to assist with the medical tricorder have him stumped. He shrugs and notes absently, "They didn't really cover preventive medicine against radiation exposure in First Aid." Figuring he's better off putting his talents to good use, he continues to wander about the room encouraging the scientific personnel with his inquiries and general good nature. Stiff upper lip. Buck up. Good job. That sort of thing.

Perhaps Commander, it would be good for us to discuss any proposed First Aid class changes when we are back aboard the Venture. I imagine several of our standard protocols and regulations will require adaptation after we synthesize the information we learn here. Sumek says, mind already thinking of the logical documentation required and station-side changes that could be undertaken to prevent things like this in the future.

We should focus as much effort as possible on solving this problem now.

Reiter is momentarily taken aback by his Captain, despite being somewhat used to the quirks of Vulcan command staff. "Ah. Of course, Captain. That only makes sense."

Encouraged by the success, and greatly aided by his Captain and Commander, Cordal makes an effort to figure out the enigma of these lifeforms.

OOC:
The remaining task is only a difficulty 1, so Cordal just does it. However, the triolic radiation causes all your maximum stress to go down with 1.
Cordal finally makes sense of all the data. "Sir! Sir! I've found it! Look here... " He points at a looping time lapse of the Osarin sun, and zooms into the heliosphere.

"See here, you can see super-heated gases near the surface are simply vanishing..." He switches visible bands, and overlays the triolic radiation patterns. "..at the precise area where the triolic waves are being emitted."

He makes a few more adjustments to the sensors, shifting wavelength and compensating for phase variance, and you see several massive blobs on the surface of the phere. "I had to pull some older data to compare, they are so massive that they almost look like sun spots or normal dips in activity, but with the right variance... These are lifeforms! Massive entities, many kilometers in diameter, the largest look about a fifty or hundred times larger than this station!"

He zooms into one of the entities and bring up some data on it. "As we suspected, they are slightly out of phase with most other life-forms, with a positive phase variance of 0.004, which renders them undetectable without using a precise setting. There are hundreds, and maybe thousands, of these entities. And they appear to be consuming vast quantities energy form the sun, which is probably what's causing the increased decay. The triolic waves look to be a byproduct of this process."

He zooms to a spot near one of the larger ones, where you se slight shimmers of entities that are starting from almost nothing to a solid shape. "They are spawning, each of them seem to be making smaller, new versions of themselves. They are mostly oblong in shape, about one meter in diameter and 2-3 meters in length. It's these that have been leaving the sun, heading into deep space, probably in search for new stars to feed on. It would seem that our generators drew them towards us. Our core is food to them.."
Jul 12, 2017 12:54 pm
Excellent discovery Cordal. Is there anything that we can do to attempt to contact them, to make them see that they are killing us by harvesting our core? If they can sense this energy, perhaps a modulated beam of some sort, anything to draw them away. Sumek says, lost in thought.

"I've made telepathic contact with the Venture. The crew is safe, although the power drain from the creatures is threatening to cause a catastrophic breakdown. They're making progress towards stabilizing the core and are attempting to restore power to shields and life support.

Captain, I can attempt to telepathically relay information we've discovered here and coordinate our efforts with the ship, at least until we can restore subspace communications."
Jul 12, 2017 2:55 pm
Cordal replies to Sumek: "I'll look into it sir. Although, at this time I've got no indication that they are sentient." He glances at the readouts on the viewscreen, then includes. "About the beam, sir. I should be able to set up a modulated beam that emits a power signature that looks like food for them. Just a matter of finding out what they deem tasty. I'll get right on it."
Jul 13, 2017 2:28 am
"Can phasers injure them, Lieutenant?"
Jul 13, 2017 1:00 pm
Cordal studies the readouts for a moment before replying. "We'd need to do some modifications to account for the phase difference, but we know the variance now, so we should be able to. Well, that's for the ones outside. The ones inside are still invisible to the naked eye..."
OOC:
Reconfiguring the ship phasers and targeting sensors is a Control+Conn or Science task with a difficulty of 2. Firing at the spaceborn entities does not require a task. Modifying hand phasers is a Daring+Engineering Task with a difficulty of 2.

Jiral attempts to project his thoughts to the bridge crew of the Venture through Betazoid Telepathy. Knowing that there are very few other telepaths on board, he tries to keep the message as clear and concise as possible.

Space-faring lifeforms. Out of phase. Positive variance .004. Reconfigure sensors and phasers.
OOC:
I'm assuming this is another Insight + Command roll with difficulty 2, so I'll go ahead and roll accordingly. Let me know if this should be easier or harder. Rolling Insight(11)+Command(3)=TN14 and spending 1 Momentum to add 1d20.

Jul 13, 2017 3:30 pm
Agreed Commander. Mr. Jiral, please instruct the Venture to use phasers at their earliest possible chance. We need to configure our handheld phasers for the beings here.
Jul 14, 2017 11:38 am
Jiral senses that one or two crewmembers get the message, and after some initial confusion, the crew scramble to battle stations. They are now aware of the lifeforms on the sun. Problem is, they are focusing too much on those, and not on the ones in their core, so life support systems are still ailing.
OOC:
The critical fail (20) causes some confusion, and sets back the crews fight of the local threat by at least 30 minutes. The task is a success though, and they are aware of what the problem is.

Party momentum 2/6
Cordal looks up from his terminal. "Sirs, I've got something. If we can get the Venture back, and get the core free of the malign entities, we could modify the main reflector dish to emit a beam that replicates the energy signatures they feed on. It wouldn't take too long, and we'd only have to overload the engines a bit, but it should work as a lure. They seem to be moving in sub-warp speed, so we could lure them to the edge of the solar system and point them in a relatively safe direction. It would take them centuries just to get to the nearest star. No leads on way to communicate though, I've tried a wide band of emissions, but they don't make any responses as far as I can tell."

Dr. Mosa looks up from her own terminal, and joins in. "We still need to clear our core and the Venture's core of entities. We could either try to look for ways to cloak or alter the energy signature so we can lure them away from the core, or we could look into ways of making them visible so we can pick them off with hand phasers. Both are long shots though."

Jul 18, 2017 10:46 am
OOC:
Uh-oh. Yeah. You do succeed, however...
You sense a bit of panic as they receive that message. Someone might have done something unwise near the core. Panic spreads across the Venture as engineering is scrambling to fix that particular mess.
Jul 25, 2017 12:48 pm
Sabin senses the panic and tries to project a sense of calm focus.
OOC:
I'm not really sure what else to do in this situation.
Jul 25, 2017 9:07 pm
OOC:
Ok, I should perhaps made your options more clear. Also, I haven't pushed on since this seems to be a bit of a lull all over (vacations etc).

As I see it now (from what you know at least), the venture is incapacitated for some time due to your complication. You do however have the option of getting the station up an running properly by getting the station core free of entities. Right now you can shoot them, but not see them. Mosa suggested trying to get them off the core peacefully (by modifying the energy signature) or to look for ways to make them visible. The choice is yours.

Later, once the station is up an running, and you (hopefully) make contact with the Venture again, you might be able to use Sumek's lure beam to lead them wherever you want (deep space?) or destroy them."
Jul 26, 2017 12:41 pm
OOC:
Ok, that's pretty much how I understood it. I just didn't know if everyone else was waiting on me to handle the complication caused by my telepathy roll somehow, or if the group just hit a big collective lull.

OOC:
Summer activity is hard for me right now -- so i've been slow to post - apologies.
Reiter offers: "Let's try and lure these things away for now and see if we can get the station online. We don't know about their offensive capabilities and if we can spoil the food for them, this may help us quickly without confrontation. Failing that, we'll need to do what we can to use wide-beam phaser configurations to score hits."
Sep 4, 2017 10:02 am
OOC:
Post-hiatus summary
An unknown phase shifted lifeform is draining energy from the cores of the U.S.S. Venture and the Epsilon 19 Science Station. The away team from Venture are the only senior officers left on the station after Commander Johannson was incapasitated and the rest of his bridge crew killed by an explosion in OPS.

The Venture away team have been able to stabilize the core of the station, and have notified their crew on the Venture of the issue, but they have yet to deal with the lifeforms themselves.

Relevant options:
- Try to "sour the milk", and get the lifeforms to detach from the core
- Find a way to make the lifeforms visible, so you can shoot them with modified phasers

Once that is done you may use Sumek's plan for a modified beam as a lure to get the lifeforms where you want them.
Sep 4, 2017 2:52 pm
If we alter the energy signature of our core, does it pose any risk to us? It would be in line with the wishes of the Federation to not attack another lifeform if we can avoid it. So long as it is safe, make preparations to modify our core's energy signature. We will go from there. Sumek says, eyes squinting just slightly as the calculations run through his own head.
Sep 5, 2017 5:40 pm
Jr. Lt. Nosim takes a moment to do some calculations, then answers readily. "That should be ok. We won't get optimal power output from the engines, but as of now the power levels are dropping in any case. I'll make the preperations."
OOC:
This will be a Reason + Engineering task with a difficulty of 3. I'll let one of you you have a chance to assist with whatever you think is relevant, then make the check for Nosim

Reiter considers himself a natural teacher and adviser and while he doesn't have extensive experience in engineering, he's cross-trained enough as a Starfleet officer that he's happily to assist Lt. Nosim as best he can. "Lieutenant -- perhaps you can talk me through what you're doing -- so I might lend some assistance or act as a sounding board?"

"Absolutely, Commander." Nosim quickly explains the intricacies of the operation, while Commander Reiter makes some insightful observations regarding some details that's easy to overlook in the heat of the moment. Once the calculations are done, Nosim punches in the new commands for the power fluctuations..

He slides over to the screen where Dr. Mosa is monitoring the liveforms. A tense minute passes as they study the incoming data, and gradually the power level indicators go up. "It's working! Commander, they are drawing away!" The stations power levels are rising to just below operational parameters, restoring power to the shields and transporter.

He considers, "Can we construct a probe with the right power signature to draw them out of the station and away from us?"
Sep 8, 2017 11:06 am
Nosim nods at this. "Great idea, Commander. I'll get right on it!" Nosim runs a few simulations on the main computer, making a lure based on a standard deep space probe schematic. Meanwhile, the internal sensors show the entities are drifting around aimlessly.

"No, Commander. The station comms are working, but they seem not to be receiving on the other end. Our scans show signs that the core issue is stabilizing. If so, it should be a matter of time before they get power up and running, including coms." He shows some initial schematics to Sumek and Dr. Nosim, asking for input. Although Sumek is well versed in astrophysics, these drawings are so experimental and jury-rigged it's hard for him to make heads or tails of it. Dr. Mosa points to a few smaller points, making suggestions about pulsating the phase variance slightly to get their attention.

Thirty minutes later you've been able to use the manufacturing replicator in Main Engineering to create two lures, made the proper adjustments and loaded them in the station's torpedo bay.
OOC:
Doing what the system doesn't want me to do, and skipping over meaningless tasks ;) I might take this more narratively for a while.
As Nosim enters the last commands to the lures, you see the comms panel blink. One of Dr. Mosa's science staff checks the display. "It's the Venture, Sirs. They report their core is now stable, but still under attack from the entities. They've modified phasers to combat them, but are having a hard time of it, they merely push them back only to have them return moments later. Still, they have been able to restore minimal power to life support, comms and limited sensors."

Nosim looks to his commanding officers. "Orders?"
Sep 13, 2017 9:09 pm
"Captain," Reiter offers, "it would seem the question is whether or not we try and angle a probe past the Venture to draw out the beings. That said, given we don't know whether or not they will act as a lure -- or how the creatures will react -- there may be some risk to doing so. Although I'm eager to get the Venture back into shape -- I suspect the wise course would be to launch a lure away from the Venture into Interstellar space. If that works on our creatures -- the second probe may be something we can use for the Venture."
Sep 14, 2017 1:28 pm
I agree Commander. Make it so. Sumek says after a few moments of closed-eye contemplation.
Sep 14, 2017 2:09 pm
Reiter works with his colleagues to program a course for the first drone and suggests it gets fired. "Do we have any sense of the speed of these creatures? Ideally we'd like the lure to be about the same speed -- so that they give chase but don't overtake it..."
Sep 14, 2017 2:21 pm
I don't think we do Commander. Better to ensure the probe has a means to receive commands to adjust speed based on nearby data sources. Perhaps it could adjust its own speed based on the speed of any nearby lifeforms? Then it could always move at the same speed. Sumek offers.
Sep 14, 2017 4:08 pm
Nosim makes a few rapid calculations on his console before chiming in. "Yessir, Captain. It should be easily possible. I'll just reverse the targeting subroutine to evade the entities instead of targeting them. We'll need to relay sensor data from our sensor array, but that's a minor issue..." After some small adjustments the first torpedo is ready for launch.

Nosim points the first torpedo away from the station, setting it up to launch in a slow but steady trajectory out of the system. On Sumek's order he launches. Nosim makes small adjustments to the torpedo's emissions and velocity while Dr. Mosa keeps track on the lifeforms.

Slowly at first, but steadily gaining speed, the lifeforms around the core detach themselves and head after the lure. Soon all the lifeforms on the station are heading after the lure in sub-warp speeds. They seem to be flattening out at about 5% of the speed of light.
Sep 15, 2017 4:39 am
"I'm impressed -- they can move with fairly astonishing speed without the aid of impulse engines."

Dr. Mosa observes the readings with wide eyes. "Absolutely, Commander. I'm sure we could learn much from studying these beings. I guess that explains their great craving for energy. I wonder how long they can keep it up.."

Jr. Lt. Nosim keys enters a few commands on his control panel. "Lure two ready. Orders, sirs?"
Sep 18, 2017 2:11 pm
Set initial coordinates for a shot near the Venture. If possible, have it hold station for a few minutes, just long enough to attract the creatures. Then set a path that will send it after the other group. Sumek says.
Sep 18, 2017 7:33 pm
Reiter asks, "What kind of sun would have the most energy for them to consume? Perhaps we can redirect both probes towards one of those suns in the nearby interstellar area that doesn't have any Class M planets..."

Reiter turns towards a console and taps away to see if his rudimentary skills can pick something out of the database.

Nosim sends over an encrypted message to the Venture asking them to turn off or reduce the energy signature of it's core, hoping that someone will receive it this time. He includes details for how to best execute either plan. He then aims the lure just of the Venture's bow and launches it on a low velocity. "Lure launched, Sir. Velocity minimal, trajectory within requested parameters."

As it nears the Venture, he keys the lure to ramp up it's energy signature. "Lure active, Sir. Are they biting, Dr. Mosa?" Dr. Mosa keeps an eye on the entities on the scanner, adjusting the scan parameters to get a good idea of what's happening. After a minute, she looks up with a grin. "Seems like the Venture got our latest message, they just shut down the main core, and are running on emergency reserves. The lure is effective, the entities are detaching from the core and going for it, better ramp up the speed."

Nosim keys his controls again, and the lure increases speed. He adjusts the trajectory slightly so they follow the same path as the other lure out of the system. "Lure on a escape trajectory out of the system, Sir. I'll alert the Venture that they can start their core again shortly."

----

Half an hour later, the com panel lights up as you are hailed by the U.S.S. Venture. First Lieutenant Martinez shows up on the viewscreen. "U.S.S. Venutre hailing Epsilon 19 Station. Oh, Captain." He halts for a heartbeat as he sees he's communicating with his own officers, not the station personnel.
"I'm happy to say that we're safe, Sir. We got your message, and shut down the main core. Those things, energy draining entities, they just went away. We have sustained minor damages to internal systems, we'll probably have to put in for repairs before we are fully operational again, but otherwise the ship is ok. We lost five crewmen in main engineering, and six more have sustained minor injuries, the rest of the crew are shaken but well. Orders, Sir?"
Sep 20, 2017 12:42 am
The news is welcome First Lieutenant. Will you be able to beam any personnel off this station? We have some serious injuries and the Commander is in need of proper medical care. Sumek says, turning to Dr. Mosa.

Doctor Mosa, provided our medical bay is in working order, you would be free to use our facilities to restore health to all wounded parties.
Sep 20, 2017 9:52 am
Martinez nods to the transporter chief who responds with a "Yes Sir. We'll have to take everyone through transporter room two, I don't trust the state of the others. I'll beam the Commander straight to sick bay." With another nod from Marinez, Commander Johannson dematerializes. The transporter chief reports "Sick bay has recieved the Commander, Sir."

Dr. Mosa breathes a sigh of relief. "That's great news, Captain. I'll start organizing our wounded. If you could send over some repair crews as well, once your ship is safe, it would also be appreciated. We have a lot to do before this station is livable again."

---

During the next couple of days you are able to perform enough repairs for life on the station and venture to return to some kind of normalcy. Commander Johannson received emergency surgery, and is recovering. He returns to his station, but is ordered to rest for a few days more. Meanwhile, the senior crew of the Venture are temporarily in charge of the station.

There are still waves of lifeforms that detach from the sun now and then, but you have made enough new lures to draw them out of the solar system after the others. Dr. Mosa and Nosim have been busy going through stellar cartography data to find a suitable relocation system on Reiters orders, and have found a promising star only 70 light years away. With their current speed it will still take them roughly one and a half millennia to get there, but it's agreed it is the best plan for now. A moving quarantine zone is set up along the path to it.

As you get more supplies sent over from Starbase 364, you are able to modify a shuttlecraft to act as a lure for the greater beings on the sun. By overloading the warp core of the shuttle you are able to draw the remaining entities away, and send them after the others.

Captain Tajenko and her crew are returned to her ship, but no longer welcome on the station. Her ship suffered more extensive damage than the Venture. After you help them with the most critical repairs they are send packing back to Orion space.

Once the station is safe, and has been resupplied, the Venture returns to Spacebase 346 for more extensive repairs.
