"The faster we move, the faster we can dispatch of these brigands and return to town for our next assignment," Kaio says martially.

You set off for the mountains, once again astride your horses. After a good four or five hours of riding, you find yourself at a point where the horses aren't able to realistically be used further. There are three major paths you can see: northeast, east, and southeast. Each looks equally traveled.

I miss the city...

Xaar? Thorolf? We're in your hands in these hills.

So, can either of you see anything I'm missing? I've no way of knowing which way we're to go... though we may as well start to the northeast if it's all the same.

"I've no idea," Kaio says, truly out of his element here.

I pick a direction at random. "That way." I head northeast.

You head off down the northeast path, its worn dirt packed firmly beneath your feet. The trail climbs higher into the hills, becoming very narrow at points, enough that you have to put your backs to the wall and shimmy through sideways just to fit. After about 20 minutes of walking down this path, you begin to notice several caves dotting the sides of the mountainous area. You check the first few you come across and find a collection of humanoid bones in each. There are crush marks and scratches down many of them. It would appear something very large has been making a meal of wandering humanoids in the area!

As you scan the mountains, you notice some goats leaping from crag to crag. Eagles soar overhead, as do vultures.

Even those of you without the best of observation skills take note of the large footprints in the ground.

What do you do?

I’m no good in the wilderness but I know medicine, and those bones are human, or near enough. I’d wager the bandits we’re after have learned to stay clear of this valley.

We should learn from their mistake,
Rixon says uncomfortably, nudging a pile of bones with the toe of his boot.

"Then we avoid these tracks. Simple enough. Unless you have a fear of trolls?"

"I don't think we should fight a troll. But that's just me."
Apr 3, 2017 5:59 pm
Trolls, is it? I've got a... healthy respect for them. I've never fought one, but it looks like they've fought plenty of us, Rixon gestures to the bones again.

Do you think avoiding the tracks is enough? What if the tracks catch up to us?

;-)
At any rate we're after bandits, not trolls. Even if they were here, they're not anymore.

How far would it be to go back?
"Were we sure this was our path to our target I would most certainly continue, but I am of the persuasion that taking another path may be the best option."

the path forked about 20 minutes back. I suggest we try the middle fork?
Apr 4, 2017 1:08 am
"Aye. I think we should take that fork."
Apr 4, 2017 1:31 am
"Fair enough," Kaio says, obviously not possessing much of an opinion.
Apr 4, 2017 2:11 am
I just shake my head and head back towards the second path. "If you think there's such a thing as a safe route, you are mistaken. Out here, you should assume nothing is safe. Be on guard."
Apr 4, 2017 8:12 pm
As you all head back down the path, you continue to make efforts to move carefully and quietly. After another twenty or thirty minutes, you find yourselves back and the fork and proceed down the middle path, heading due east. Visually, nothing much has changed. It's a mountain path the same as the other. As you continue on, you find yourselves in a deep cut in the mountain, barely wide enough to walk one abreast. Suddenly, from all around you, you hear a low rumble.

Dex saves from everyone, please. Also, what is your marching order. You are moving in a single file line, so when you post your save, include your position (1-5) in the post. Finally, how are you all transporting Geran at this stage, since you are now on foot only. Are you leaving him with the horses at the fork?

Dex save
Thorolf is first in line when he notices the rumbling.

Forgot about Geran, to be honest! Can we do a flashback to the crossroads? It's been over a day, Rixon feels that is long enough to scout the bandits and come back.
