Go ahead and make attack rolls against the locks (they do have an AC and HP per). Unless someone wants to try picking them.

Alohomora!

Dmg 1 - (1d10)
(10) = 10
Dmg 2 - (1d10)

Geran blasts the chest with his eldritch forces, and only the last seems to rattle the locks at all, but ends up leaving no marks whatsoever. They seem to be very well constructed locks!
Jul 11, 2017 8:45 pm
Kaio, remembering his prior success with lockpicking, takes one of his darts and moves towards the chests. "Does anyone have actual lockpicks?" he asks as he starts to work away at them.
Rolls
Thieves' Tools (Lockpicking) - (1d20+6)
(7) + 6 = 13

I do have picks, Rixon volunteers.
but it looks like you're working on it already. Let me know if you need a hand.

Rolls
Traps? - (1D20+1)
(19) + 1 = 20
Thieves tools - (1D20+6)
(18) + 6 = 24

Kaio, you work your dark into the lock and it doesn't have any impact at all.
Rixon, you don't find any obvious traps on chest number two. You slip your proper tools into the lock and with a quick twist and flick of the ends, the lock pops open quietly.

Kaio shoots Rixon a small smile. "'Twould seem you have more skill than I.

Hey guys I had an idea and I want feedback. Go check it out here, would you?Last edited July 12, 2017 7:48 pm

Rixon only shrugs at Kaio, the corner of his mouth curling into a smug half-smile, Learned as a kid.
Rixon slowly lifts the lid of the chest...

If you want to take 20 to open the locks, you can do that, but it'll take you 10 minutes or so per lock (5 locks remaining, 2 per chest). Otherwise, you can make checks enough to pick them. DC20. Making the checks will likely take you "less" time, but it isn't a guaranteed thing each time. Up to you.Jul 12, 2017 8:23 pm

Haha, I clearly need to brush up on reading comprehension ;-)Rixon gets back to work...
This one seems tougher.

Is it a minute per check? Trying to save time.Last edited July 12, 2017 8:27 pm
Rolls
Theives tools - (1D20+6)
(3) + 6 = 9

(15) + 6 = 21

I figure about a minute per check would make sense. Taking 20 I figure would be kind of like taking 10 minutes to sit and really think, trying a few things, coming back after a bit. Stuff like that.Jul 12, 2017 9:13 pm
Just as Rixon pops the second lock and excitedly rubs his hands together, Geran asks his question. The color drains from Rixon’s face and he turns, standing.
Geran, no. If he’s left any studies, they should be burned. That was pure evil. And… Rixon steels himself, I guess now is as good a time as any for this conversation.
Geran, really, I’m starting to wonder at your motives. You were supposed to scout the bandits so we didn’t walk into any traps such as this. It seems that instead you went on your own personal mission doing Light knows what, and left us to carry your body around the whole of Delmarra. That is not what I’d expect from a trusted ally.

How was I supposed to know the bandits had a necromancer? I figured you guys would be fine, so I took it upon myself to investigate to our true cause, which is stopping this war, not bounty hunting. he sighs, Look, if you guys decide to contribute to the bigger picture, then I'll stick around. Otherwise, I'm a busy guy. Now where is his book so I can give it to the council, so they can study counter measures?
Jul 12, 2017 9:32 pm
We don't even know these are or were the bandits! You were supposed to know about the necromancer by scouting. Like you’d committed to do.
If we’d talked about you neglecting immediate obligations to ‘investigate our true cause’ maybe we wouldn’t be having words right now. But you'd agreed to scout, then took off... thinking that we’d be fine without you?
I agree that this war is foolish. That is why we await orders. If you want to go rogue, do it on your own time, without endangering any of us.

Okay fine, you're right. I should've informed you of my side activity. Listen, I'm not used to taking orders, and I'm still new at this whole team work, and magic thing. I grew up learning to give orders; hell, my best skill is acting... he rests his head in his palm I apologize for my actions. I ask that you may forgive me, and I promise to aid the team as best as I can.

"I think your rebuke was well done," Kaio says, laying a hand on Geran's shoulder, "And well received," he says, nodding to Geran. "Now let's get these locks open. I think Geran should retrieve the book either way--whether we burn it or save it, we can do neither until we have it in our possession, and we should have it rather than anyone else that is likely to come upon it here."
Jul 13, 2017 2:17 am
"Have you found anything or not? Seems all you're doing is standing around chatting. At this rate we're better off heading to the nearest tavern. At least then I'd have a tankerd of ale on front of me."
Jul 13, 2017 2:44 am
I pray you're not acting now. Apology accepted. Rixon nods.
Now, yes... what have we found? He lifts the lid of the chest again, sure he got both locks this time...

You push the lid open and reveal a mound of glittering coins and gems. The chest appears to be full to the brim, which matches with how heavy it felt when you pulled it out of the ground.
