"Gandish...why would they be so far south . . ." Zaituc says quietly after another stall. "Did you have the goblin half-breeds running the woods up north at Annagain Pass, Connal's Son?" Zaituc asks, looking quizzically at Ivor.
I'm a bit confused what is being asked here.
Ah yes, was also about to ask the same thing but you beat me to it. :-)
LOL. Exactly. It is confusing. I thought it would be perfectly understandable if Ivor wrote back "What are you saying, old sea dog? Are you talking to me or to yourself again?"
Big Zaituc, a monster of a man even though he is old, speaks with a fearsome and booming voice when he is on the ship or in a fight, never lacking clarity. He is feared for his ruthlessness in battle, and his great physical strength, and also hailed as one of the most shrewd corsairs and elusive smugglers for decades.
But when he is hanging out drinking and getting high and getting laid at his camp with his friends, he drifts away and can be seen talking to himself. He still insults everyone and complains, but he is very generous and egalitarian, (even though you have learned recently that he actually carries the title of Viscount in Voldruv, which would make him mid/upper level nobility. He has never mentioned this, but some of the non-Voldruvan crewmen have told you).
Not sure if the behavior is bipolar, an act, or him just adjusting to circumstances albeit dramatically. Also, it seems like a Voldruvan tendency. Many of his crew are Voldruvan. The trend is that they are gruff, abrasive, and focused when they are "on the clock" managing the ship, and ferocious in battle (especially with axes), but when they get down time, they are rather quiet, dull, calm, and very kind.
The comments about the Gandish will revive later. Not giving anything away when I say that.
