Hey guys, the other day GP went down for several hours and it struck me that our game would instantly die with GP if the site died. So I wanted to share my contact info with you all in the event of such a catastrophe.

So to contact me off site, just add @gmail.com to my user name.

Good call, CB. I had the same thought at the time last weekend, that we needed a backup plan, but I forgot and never followed up on the idea.

I followed the trend then and have a gmail. "dmj" and "miracle" both taken on gmail individually (I wonder if the original DMJ has some good games), so I combined for:
"DMJMiracle@gmail.com"

Also, as a tertiary comms platform if everything goes down here, I think we should give it a shot at shifting to https://www.rpgcrossing.com/ as a rally point. I don't know anything about the site, don't have a login there, but Ox told me about it.

As a prepper at heart, I'm going to take some time this weekend to make sure that I have all of my game structure files saved on another format. I do have a lot of it already if we really had to rebuild, but want to take a good inventory to make sure. Some of the story and dialogue would be lost for sure. Bummer. Come on, Rohit, KEEP GP ALIVE!

I also have a gmail address with my user name at the front of it. Great minds think alike, I guess. We're all so awesome.

Some tactical considerations from Kray before we go in:

---J, I'm thinking that the krekutils will serve to protect us from tripping on the smoke since they filter what we're breathing. It might do us well to pop those on before we go in there.

---Also, remember to stay tight in there. Visibility will be lacking and we know what happens to those who get separated from crew.

---Rutcranna needs to be kept alive. She can open the main gate and sounds like our ticket out of here. I know she wants Maeriks nearby, but I'm going to suggest that we form up like so:

T-K-M-I
-B-R-H-

---note: the hyphen use in the above formation does not reflect open spaces the enemy can move through; just going for symmetry.

---In the above formation Rutcranna is protected. Hinka and Bryn in the rear as flankers, set a little inside in a position to protect RC and flank the enemy (backstab!) if they can manage to do so without too much risk. Thorn and Ivor on the front edges, using Sentinel to keep those engaged on the flanks from easily pressing to our rear, not to mention they are both rocking some cornerstone quality hp. Maeriks in the middle with his healing abilities, next to Ivor and his net for fish smashing and close to RC as she requested. Kray was actually my last consideration, posted up in the remaining spot in the front line.

I think this is our best bet. Stout front line, flankers inset to the rear for flexibility, VIP RC protected.

Playerz Club,

In the timing of it all, though it's tempting to press on with full throttle combat, I am sending the traditional Friday midday downshift post.

I want you guys to have a breath to talk/debate strategy if necessary and I not have me pressing everyone in half-cocked or shaky on clarity when bad guys are locked and loaded for bear.

I'm going to be in and out on connectivity for the afternoon and night too.
On the other hand, I've got a weekend that is more flexible than most IRL during Saturday and Sunday. If there is a crowd motivation to press forward as a complete group, I could support some weekend play as an exception to tradition.
BUT if no mandate like that emerges, fine with just leaving it as half-speed casual time hanging out this weekend and get back to full throttle Great Hall Smokehouse Showdown on Monday during normal hours.

Post up any thoughts. Will catch up later.

OOC:
Thorn would rather not inhale Molua smoke; he's holding his breath for as long as he is able to and still be good for the fight. With a +4 Con he should be able to go for 5 minutes normally, but that doesn't take into account all the action that might soon be happening. I'm good with whatever you think here; DMJ.
OOC:

You know, did not think about addressing this in advance of this game build, but this Ep 1 has really pushed the rules on breathing and breath holding into the spotlight. I've stalled on formalizing a rules adjustment or expanding House Rules any further, but this one is going to have to give either sooner or later. Those rules as written need a dose of realism.

To keep it simple, I can live with Rules as Written (RAW) for holding breath as long as the character is sitting still, no work, no stress. That to me is the base calculation. A best case scenario.

If the character is doing Movement, I think that cuts the base calculation in half.

If the character is in strenuous activity, including Combat or taking Dash as Action, then the number is 1/3 of the base calculation. (Fractions rounded to nearest 6 seconds if it must be done, simply because that can be converted to a number of rounds). That's still going to generate plenty of rounds to fight and hold breath for someone in better than average health.

I hadn't even considered the possibility that krekutil would work above water. If it's something that can be done then Ivor would do that too. Otherwise yeah, he'll try holding his breath too.
OOC:

Krekutils still in play as a resource. Above strategy is creative and may be promising. Keep in mind though that their oxygenation is fluid based. They don't have an air based system as an alternate. It can work walking around in the room obviously, just keep in mind that the mask chamber has to be flooded with fluid, which takes a little time to load up and also puts you out for a few rounds as you cough and puke it out when you take the mask off.

I've been leaving those times imprecise so far, but we may have to pin down the flooding and extraction actions in game terms depending on how the situation goes in the future. It's just a short time in the real life of the characters, but depending on circumstance, may end up making someone kill time/action in a key moment.

In a worst case as example (speculation), the whole party is hacking and choking after taking masks off and then on the same round they are ambushed by 16 Froghemoths. That would be tough.

Completely fine. Let's just shoot the breeze ad-hoc for a few days and reconvene Monday.

J, I don't know if CB told you yet, but we are going to link the Dark Thrones World to the West Marshes game and I'm going to DM in the world you created so I can kill your character.

Ox, I'd proudly send a character to die in any game that you DM. And my character would cut up MANY of your weak NPCs and monsters before bleeding out in a fight like a real man.

But dang, bro. Pretty cold for you guys to hijack our whole world out the side door and open it up to get diluted and pimped out in a bunch of mass production chat-room nonsense with every tool-bag who has a login username.

Just so you know, the PHB has more classes than just the Barbarian class, you can go past the first one listed and dabble a bit. ;)

DMJ

Jul 14, 2017 7:10 pm
Ha! Yea. You know the problem? The next class is BARD! I pretty much quit reading after I heard about weak shit like that.
Jul 14, 2017 8:19 pm
Bards can be hella strong. I'll fight your almighty barbarian with a Bard any day. I'll make a level 5bard you make a level 5 Barbarian and let's fight arena style.

Maybe a bard can go toe to toe with a barbarian, but their class design is lame and overpowered in the context of what bards from fiction and myth could actually do. D&D, in the simplest terms, has gotten stupidly carried away with what bards are capable of.

Ox, you're probably right. And after your Bard defeated the Barbarian, you would still have to deal with the cruel degrading fact that ... you're a FUCKING BARD! A guitar player who is great at Performance checks. Who plays a flute to creep people out or has a harp that gives people stomach aches with magic music. A little clown in fancy clothes who makes people laugh, oh and cry. What an artist.

If Conan rolled up on a guitarist, who made a move for his guitar to try to play a mean magic song at Conan, Conan would cut blousy pants and his faerie instrument in half with one swipe. There would be 1/2 of a bard and 1/2 of a guitar on one side of the stage, and 1/2 of a bard and 1/2 of a guitar on the other side of the stage.

But in traditional setting D&D, there would be a Barbarian dead in the front row of the audience, after a quick Thunderwave followed by a magic song. Plus a tabaxi druid/sorceror would be raising his glass in the back of the club like, "Good show, my thespian friend. Good show!"

Because of the truth that a Bard 5 beats a Barbarian 5 in traditional setting D&D...that, my good friend, shows just how imperative it is to have Dark Thrones as an option. We are here to put things back as they should be.

Muhahahahahah. Dark Laugh: Lameness of the Bards

Lol for real. All so true. The shit bards can do in 5e is k-razy.

Sounds like a great idea, but I think they take something like 30 seconds to a minute to fill. That may be a pain point we have to work with. A short delay is better than getting high. Don't do drugs, kids.

Maeriks doesn't have healing abilities (that he knows of) and besides, he burned both his spell slots on speak with animals and charm animal to get that crocodile to escort our boat on the way here.

How does Kray feel, being picked last? It's like middle school all over again...

That's some top-notch considerations there, Ez. I tip my hat. I don't wear one, but consider my hat tipped. I'm all for this plan.
