Ezeriah says:
J, since we are working with the Old Tea Man on this whole Oceans 11 raid and assassination plan, do we have commitment to contract right now as part of the job? I know our pay is the loot we find, but it is still a job we've agreed to do for Palla Ba, killing Iz Jeddriss.Hmm. I would not have looked at it that way, but I'm up for hearing out the appeal. It has some merit.
Commitment to Contract assumes living a lifestyle of the Mercenary Code. The Ep 1 crowd here breached contract famously. Not meaning they can't do work for money again, but it might say that they work on some other set of codes beyond just money agreements and an ironclad commitment to their literal word.
Also, Sizhen and Trece I don't think are taking on a Mercenary Code life.
Plus some of the other criteria isn't quite there, like the payment up front.
BUT that meeting with Palla Ba at the secret room in the Tea Shop did seem like a heck of a conspiracy deal hire. I'd say if you guys are striving towards a true fulfillment of Palla Ba's goals (which is to kill Iz Jeddriss and by extension other menaces he employs to prey upon the city) and you have given your solemn mercenary agreement on that, I can see maybe you guys get some extra motivation here and there because you are intent on seeing it through.
We'll have to think it over in the long run to make sure we don't set it up like every time someone gives a lead on a place to raid, we call it CTC.
In the end though, these code boosts are meant to be a way to use mechanics in an fun way to convey some sort of culture threads that weave through the setting and the characters.
So that's a long talk to say
"yes" with qualifications. The intent would be for you guys to be using the rerolls as an illustration of the characters' determination to get the job done, because they took on the employer's goals and mean to see it through. So if you guys pussy out at the end and don't follow through, you should feel guilty about using the rerolls. Haha!
Now Sizhen and Trece, they have done an outstanding job conveying to me their very serious intent on accomplishing this mission, but it is different than a Commitment to Contract under the Mercenary Code of Honor.
Sizhen has a commitment to his expertise of solving cases and a drive from his background to destroy demonics wherever he finds them.
Trece has a personal code that has him focused like a laser beam on fulfilling the request of Palla Ba come Hell or high water it seems, so no lack of motivation there.
So everyone, let's call it
Commitment to Mission (CTM):
PC can choose to gain Advantage on an Attack Roll, Damage Roll, Ability Check, or Saving Throw of his choice once per day as long as the action taken is an effort of striving forward towards the completion of the Motivating Mission.
Upon reaching 5th Level, the PC can choose to enact the ability twice per day.
No one can use it until the current round though (mainly just meaning Ox has to make the hold-over CON save under the tough circumstance with no retries like everyone else did).
