Thank you all. That was a fucking roller coaster from start to finish, knowing what was coming but seeing Trece just be a complete legend throughout that fight. I envy each of you getting to experience Trece's final post without knowing the harsh reality that was waiting just around the corner. Rereading, I ain't gonna lie, I still got a little choked up; Trece was dope. Hats off to you as well, J; this world is beyond amazing. Looking forward to Ep. 3, though somewhat bummed Trece will not be starring in it.

Rest easy, Thirteen.

I know how you feel, J. I've gotten myself into two mass battles in my Birthright game. Its fun, but boy is it a lot of work! You forgot to add to the game description "DMing this game will be my second job."

Hyp, you are sticking around for the next story arc, right?

I was thinking about what Maeriks would do if he had a healing spell left. And I don't think he would have used it. Sad is right. Watching 13 walk to 2 while blistered and charred is just ...

Dip out of this game? You kidding me? Of course I'm going to stick around. I have an idea bumping around in my head, extremely basic at the moment but hopefully with time, he can come close to being as cool as Trece.

I'll let J take the reigns on this one just in case but healing wouldn't of done anything for Trece.

I think why Trece's death was so powerful was because while it was sad, it was intwined with happiness; a bittersweet end. Trece didn't see death as an end, he saw it as a new beginning, one that included his only friend. While it was sad to watch him struggle just to hug nothing, that isn't how Trece was seeing it. He stood tall, walked strongly, and went without knowing; his last vision was his friend standing in front of him, smiling. Bittersweet.

This is so good. The Bull is such a cool AND weird phenom.

CB, you've nailed it on conveying the mix between man and animal that manifests as Bull Maeriks. The descriptions of bull decision-making and mannerisms is a direct hit descriptively - a pleasure to read, and it always gives me a laugh. It has steered my interpretation of the transformation, that as we know is EXTREMELY weird and exceptional in the DT setting.

I think it is one of the biggest standing questions at the moment: WTF is up with this BULL here in the room right now?!

Note: "Endgame" was a nickname for the final phase of that particular battle. It was like a grand chess match. Room was like a board. Two opposing groups on either side, moving towards one another. Pieces falling on either side. Pawns were all down. We entered a time when major pieces had to start cashing in for one side to win. etc.

It was NOT predicted as the end of Ep 2. Still more to go, one way or another, for the Players' Club.

Just to mention it in case there was an interpretation that the level-up and end of combat signaled the end or near-end of the story.

I made an entry in CharGen Admin to route focused discussion there for consolidation of that sort of thing.

Correction: That rule is discontinued.

I had that option in the background offline for quite a while. It didn't really work with Ivor's death facing a dozen stirges. It worked like a rock ballad for Trece, and it was extremely memorable as we know.

But it is going to have to stay there - as a one-time event.

To make a guarantee of a "God Mode" Epic Death runs the risk of incentivizing the use of such a dramatic option. It would remain too much of a temptation to just pull the pin and explode every character at every gritty high-drama scene, in a round-about way degrading the efforts of others who are trying to manage tactics, choose more prudently, and survive.

On more reflection, that sort of temptation is not what we are looking for here. Have to stick to the original themes: "Combat is bloody, dangerous, and exhausting. The rules of injury, recovery, and dying are adjusted to capture a grittier depiction of close calls with death at low and negative HPs. "

So...I LOVED the Dark Ending when we saw it live, Hyp. But the 13th Chamber was closed with Trece's death.

So my 6 year old daughter and I were having a "drawing contest". I had to ask what this was: It is a beholder (big eye is the flower in the middle) on a robot body spaceship flying in space looking at all the planets.

J, you got us on track for some DT Ancient Aliens? Is CB's daughter psychic?

I wasn't really ready for this ancient image to be discovered just yet, but it's no surprise that savants are picking it up in the psychic fields and dream rays now that R'yleh has moved.

But yeah, how do you think Chaugnar Faugn and Glaaki got to the DT planet 2 billion years ago?

Won't reveal the Beholder's name or backstory on that reconnaissance voyage, but let's just say you might learn a little more about in Ep 5. Did anyone notice Jupiter circled in red? Might be worth remembering.

In all seriousness, that's really really cool, CB. D7D playing a role in the formative years of imagination in a new generation - ha!

Just re-read those scenes linked from above. Dark Thrones, indeed. Forgot how grim that damn swamp was. Going to have to give Episdoe 1 a read through one day.

I'm ready to roll out when everyone else is.

Someone should be mindful enough to grab Maerik's dropped gear, whatever's left of it.

I thought gear transforms with you when you wildshape.

Here lies Trece, the Indomitable.
[ +- ] "Freedom." - Thirteen, closing the 13th chamber.
Here's an item dump for Kray, or others, if he decides if/when to go through it.
Feb 18, 2019 10:34 pm
Kray is opportunistic. He'd look. Taking the keys, a couple torches, and the unknown name. Ox, Kray would show the unknown to Bryn.

EDIT: And the Ghetto Mirror!

RIP Trece.

The Indomitable.

You must be playing some weird high fantasy version of D&D.

Damn J, just noticed that you spent an hour writing up all that. I never checked before, but I'm sure that's not a record. :thumbs_up_emoji: :cute_hearts_emoji: :bromance_emoji:
