Fellas, it's inevitable. I've got to bring Dark Thrones to a wrap up point soon. I mentioned it a bit before that I could give a week or two to the Interim idea and then would have to go on hiatus. Now the time has come.
As much as it pains me to do it, I have to walk away from gaming for a while and disappear. I've got a lot of things to improve on at the job and a lot of family issues to sort out as well. I just have to tear myself away from this addictive leisure activity to put my full attention on other important things.
You know I'm kind of an "all-or-nothing" guy. Haven't been able so far to find the "half pace" setting for DT. Ha! So the chainsaw has to be shut down entirely pretty soon.
Here's the straight shots, firing down range:
1) I'm going to post a bit, watch the boards and PMs, for the rest of the week. Through 31 May, Friday. After that, I'm going to log out.
2) I want it to be a summer break. Tentatively planning to get back in touch with you guys in the early days of September.
3) I have to admit, in full disclosure, I can only get back to gaming even then if I get some things squared away in The Real. Not trying to be negative or pessimistic, I just want to be honest so that I'm not doing any sort of betrayal or being misleading (Guys, come on. I did PLAY Elam, but I'm NOT HIM. Ha!). I think you guys deserve to know where I'm at with the future of the game. I'm wanting to get it back running again in the future, but I can't promise it 100% on my good word. I'll just promise you that I'll try, and that my best guess is that I can.
So with that, yeah - everyone can respond however you will. We have this last work week to wrap up some loose ends, or probably even MAKE MORE loose ends. Work on character builds. That was a bit of the point of Interim, to have some open-ended developments. Some questions to ask, possibilities to be built - for answer and completion maybe later.
Those requests I made for entries were always sort of optional of course. They are not meant to be homework assignments - only invitations for you take an active hand in weaving story if you want to and feel like it is fun. So send in ideas if you have them, but if not - no big deal at all. Either way, when we get back together we can revive it all and see where it goes.
No matter what happens, I think the point in the story is at a good place. The characters took a shot at some big events, it cost them a lot, but they won! (The survivors did anyway. Sorry, Jabes. I still LOVED the Simush ending - want you to come back with some new character, bro.)
The surviving characters relocated to a point in time and position where they can build something - stay sharp and exciting, continue towards Legend Status, but also live for a while at a moment of some accomplishment and respect. For the idea of thinking out a story, I'm satisfied with that. It's a place where we can wonder what will come next, but it isn't a brutal cliffhanger that is punishing to be left with.
So that's it for tonight for me. I'll look forward to the next few days of exchange if you guys are gaming. We'll get what we can done, and then take a break.
Thanks for everything.
Sincerely,
J
