By the way, Jabes is out on vacation. Until I think 23 May.
He sent word though, is looking forward to getting back. Thinking of options for his new character.
May 19, 2019 2:42 am
Send word back to him that when he comes up with a new character to come up with a new-new one 'cause I'mma point blank his ass the second he's introduced for that previous betrayal. Let's do it for Maeriks, man.

All in good fun, Jabes. You played Iasu/Simush amazingly; loved him as a character, hated him as a person—not more than Elam though, even fuckin' Trece felt that betrayal.

Bring your ass back Jabes. Hate the shit out of Simush, but want you here. Just, you know, in a less "I'm going to try an murder the party" kind of way. It did feel like a betrayal, I'll admit. I'm not the kind who can cycle through PC's. Kray making it all the way is huge to me, the kind of history to create through playing the character just really resonates for me.

Ultimately, if Kray drops I doubt I'll stay on. Mentioned it to X months ago when Thorn had his near death experience. Maybe I'm character monogamous, so to speak. I just can't imagine trying to replace Kray. Every other character would just be a hot dog to the juicy rib eye Kray is to me.

The played history of my character is huge to me. The more I play Kray, the more in tune I feel and the more the character comes to life for me.

I personally have to admit something I love about the total burnout ending for all of the cambions (devil half-breeds. the DT tieflings. the DT elves?), with Jabes capping it off sending Simush on a mission of intended grandeur that turned to ruin.

These guys are intense. They have wild extreme personalities, on the outlier edges of the bell curve. They are pshcyopaths and sociopaths. They have fucked-up lives filled with all sorts of psychological strain about family, identity, purpose, destiny. They are almost always untrustworthy, and tend towards destroying everything around them, including themselves.

This party going forward, if they encounter another rare cambion, I suspect they would stab first and ask questions later. And when they do, chances are it was the best move.

Perfect.
May 19, 2019 3:47 pm
Stab first, absolutely.

Questions? Nah. Kray has way better shit to do than waste breath on cambions (aka elves).

The only negative about the ending is having one of the team flip and going psycho on you.

Gotta respectfully disagree.

Negative!? It was the best thing about the entire episode, Ez. We thought Elam's betrayal was holy-shit? Just wait until Iasu, the dude who saved Thorn's life, kills the PC who saved his life! Jesus. Amazing.

And of course, we'll never trust a devil again.

I'm rolling up my next PC as we speak. Should she have two or three horns?
May 21, 2019 4:28 am
Six horns. Might as well go freak show.

I get the character aspect, it just sucks when a player turns on the party. Just sends a negative vibe, counter productive to the party itself as a whole.

I get it from an RP view though.

Sorry you feel that way. Again, my apologies for the lack of communication.

Apology accepted.

Yo, Jabes. Get with us on the boards when you get back from vacay.

And get with me on CharGen threads Note-style. You need to start building New Guy so that he can be incorporated into the Interim 2 abstract weave.

Hi, all! I'm back from my trip but pretty tired (though in a good way) and I have a ton of catching up to do at work, so I won't be back on the boards til Monday. Catch you all then! 😊
May 24, 2019 7:43 pm
Good shit Jabes. I hope your trip was 110% of what you were going for.

Remembering the fallen today and hoping those of you who celebrate are having a great Memorial Day.

It's been a good Memorial Day weekend here, Ez. Thanks! Hoping for you the same.

Hot weather. Yard work. Cookouts. Couple of moments of reflection on the fighters who didn't come home.
Seems like the holiday measured up to tradition again this year.

Back at it tomorrow though on the work grind. Brings me to my next post.

Fellas, it's inevitable. I've got to bring Dark Thrones to a wrap up point soon. I mentioned it a bit before that I could give a week or two to the Interim idea and then would have to go on hiatus. Now the time has come.

As much as it pains me to do it, I have to walk away from gaming for a while and disappear. I've got a lot of things to improve on at the job and a lot of family issues to sort out as well. I just have to tear myself away from this addictive leisure activity to put my full attention on other important things.

You know I'm kind of an "all-or-nothing" guy. Haven't been able so far to find the "half pace" setting for DT. Ha! So the chainsaw has to be shut down entirely pretty soon.

Here's the straight shots, firing down range:

1) I'm going to post a bit, watch the boards and PMs, for the rest of the week. Through 31 May, Friday. After that, I'm going to log out.

2) I want it to be a summer break. Tentatively planning to get back in touch with you guys in the early days of September.

3) I have to admit, in full disclosure, I can only get back to gaming even then if I get some things squared away in The Real. Not trying to be negative or pessimistic, I just want to be honest so that I'm not doing any sort of betrayal or being misleading (Guys, come on. I did PLAY Elam, but I'm NOT HIM. Ha!). I think you guys deserve to know where I'm at with the future of the game. I'm wanting to get it back running again in the future, but I can't promise it 100% on my good word. I'll just promise you that I'll try, and that my best guess is that I can.

So with that, yeah - everyone can respond however you will. We have this last work week to wrap up some loose ends, or probably even MAKE MORE loose ends. Work on character builds. That was a bit of the point of Interim, to have some open-ended developments. Some questions to ask, possibilities to be built - for answer and completion maybe later.

Those requests I made for entries were always sort of optional of course. They are not meant to be homework assignments - only invitations for you take an active hand in weaving story if you want to and feel like it is fun. So send in ideas if you have them, but if not - no big deal at all. Either way, when we get back together we can revive it all and see where it goes.

No matter what happens, I think the point in the story is at a good place. The characters took a shot at some big events, it cost them a lot, but they won! (The survivors did anyway. Sorry, Jabes. I still LOVED the Simush ending - want you to come back with some new character, bro.)
The surviving characters relocated to a point in time and position where they can build something - stay sharp and exciting, continue towards Legend Status, but also live for a while at a moment of some accomplishment and respect. For the idea of thinking out a story, I'm satisfied with that. It's a place where we can wonder what will come next, but it isn't a brutal cliffhanger that is punishing to be left with.

So that's it for tonight for me. I'll look forward to the next few days of exchange if you guys are gaming. We'll get what we can done, and then take a break.

Thanks for everything.

Sincerely,

J

I'm sorry to see this game go. Hoping it won't be permanent. I don't know if I want to hash out a new character in the remaining few days, or just hold off until if/when we go back on air. Probably the latter. I wish you all the best, J! And shoot me an email anytime, man.
May 28, 2019 12:25 pm
Hey J. Thanks for more than two years of crazy shit. I've loved figuring Thorn out and interacting with the rest of the DT crew. Hope you can make it back in the fall.

I'm going to echo X's sentiment. It's been a great ride, truly the most realistic rpg experience I've ever been a part of. Love the challenge and stellar story.

A summer break is welcome, for sure, but I'm really hoping we can get together in the fall for what is my favorite experience as a PC, all time. I've DM'd or GM'd games 90+% of the time but for me, DT is an absolute treasure as a gaming experience.
