To Finish Top of the 1st:
OOC:
Trying to keep my bearings and communicate effectively so I make sure not to leave something out or push anything forward at any unclear/unfair detriment.

I believe to wrap up Top of Round 1: the Attack of The Hive, we need to see:
1) Determine whether or not Kray is knocked Prone.
2) Poison save result for Kray
3) determine if Qiu is hit or Poisoned

Once those are in, and unless anyone objects or needs more info, I think we can move to Bottom of Round 1: The Mercenaries Strike Back.
May 7, 2017 6:48 pm
Qiu watches the cauldron shift and spark for a moment, then shrugs off his backpack and picks up his shield. Hopefully the cauldron shifted enough that they will be in the clear here long enough to see their attackers if any appear... Watching Thorn rush past and begin scaling the structure and Ivor hurling an axe toward Fingol, Qiu realizes he just set things into motion when he only intended to prevent a potential trap. Hopefully he was right.

A second later Kray and Talius are shouting and Talius crashes down into the gully next to him. Above, he sees a half dozen or so demon men emerging from the smoke, attacking Talius. One horned beast, apparently having just shoved Talius, now throwing a javelin down at him. Qiu looks back toward Kray just in time to see a flanking skull faced man throwing a javelin at him. Bringing his shield up just in time, the javelin plunks solidly into the shield.

"IVOR!" he shouts "Get on that roof with Thorn!" As he shouts the command, he swipes down with his own javelin, knocking the demon's javelin loose from his shield. He then charges forward towards the horned demon, shouting with a primal rage. Qiu leaps the gully, hurling his javelin while in mid flight. As he crashes into the creature, he immediately hooks his arm under it's shoulder grappling it. With a quick drop down low, Qiu throws the demon man over his shoulder and into the gully. He then turns and moves toward Kray, hoping that Talius can handle the downed bull.
OOC:

If I am wrong about the distance of the jump, then Qiu would do something else...
If the grapple fails, Qiu will use his bonus action to take cover behind his large shield, gaining 3/4 cover against ranged attacks. He would still move towards Kray. His Mobil feat will protect him against any opportunity attacks by the bull.
If the grapple succeeds but the slam fails (Looks like it will), Qiu will drag the bull off the edge of the gully edge and both will take fall damage, but Qiu will attempt to maintain the grapple. The slam attack included a 1d6 for fall damage to the Bull.

OOC:
CB, I got you. I can picture what Qiu is working on. That sounds pretty dope. We'll get that going in Bottom R1 first thing. Only correction is there is no fall damage. That is a gradual slant going down into the gully. Not a sharp enough drop to be difficult terrain. Qiu does not necessarily need to jump but he can, and the jumping throw definitely works, and he can easily make it up with normal movement, especially with the Mobile. There won't be any fall damage, but we'll see how it all pans out tomorrow when I roll the attempt Slam resist. It sounds like Qiu could be staged up right beside/over Kray at the end if you want to, or you could move Bull back down the hill slant if you don't get the Slam.

To clarify: Qiu descended down into the gully beyond Talius/Kray to be in range for the backpack throw. Approx 15' past them, down in a flat spot at the bottom. So when Bull crashed Talius 10', Talius landed about 5' from Qiu, 5' closer to Bull and the top crest of the southbound rise.

Also, I'm taking on your correction on the non-lethal damage and rethinking my DM call on the effects of these non-MM monster damages. You figured out my inner psychology on my Pathfinder history. haha. If you want to, I'll tell Ox you are calling the shots and we can convert that damage from non-lethal damage to normal damage, and we'll change it to short sword horn damage plus STR Mod if you say so.
Ox, ask CB what I should do next, and I'll reroll for normal and additional damage against Talius if we need to. Just be prepared to make the adjustment to your current HP accordingly.
But in all seriousness, folks...
I really want to get Ez's update and input on what happened to Kray on Top R1 before proceeding. It seems like he may be in some trouble, so I don't want to proceed before he weighs in.

May be? That actually got a real chuckle out of me. From the looks of the dice (44 damage, about to be somewhat mitigated by Parry maneuver), the Fates want him bad. Kray is pretty much screwed, but he'll try to suck it up.

Busy, so here it is without the narrative dressing, so combat can move along:

CON Save vs. Poison. ATH save vs prone.

Reaction Parry Maneuver vs 12 damage from Goat spear attack #1.

Qiu says:
"IVOR!" he shouts "Get on that roof with Thorn!"
I don't think that's good tactics. This is pretty much advising what could very soon be a 2 vs 5 down here on the ground, because Kray got reamed this turn and could will very possibly likely be out of it soon at 4 hp. Thorn is unharmed, not even fighting. We've got 5 guys (of unknown ability, seemingly 4th level or lower, with poison) down here to deal with. Not sure why Ivor should be on that roof when there's killing to be done on the ground.

Action Surge for extra action this turn. Bonus Action to go into 'Rage' (RP wise for Kray more of an iron-willed focus).

Disengage action. Move next to Talius whether Kray needs to get up from Prone or not, trying to form a line of sorts, or consolidate force. Dodge action to give attackers Disadvantage (about the best thing Kray could do right now is stay standing, providing another target so Talius and Qiu don't get overwhelmed).

Changing Combat Prof to +2 AC at end of turn.

EDIT: Lucky Feat on the Poison Save.

OOC:
Ha! Whoa. Sorry, Ez. At this point after hearing more, my previous comment DOES sound sort of like the Understatement of the Month. I did not mean that tongue-in-cheek or to make light of Kray's situation; just hadn't really taken in all of the math and effects without your update on what was a hit or not, etc. Glad he is not out; time to show and prove now.
Don't give up, Mercon! Stay on your feet!

I'll get going writing up what we see so far on next entries, with Kray's and Qiu's actions already in for Bottom R1.

Xorthan, you and I are already along the way this far with Thorn as well up at the house. Effects of his choices will be delivered next round.

So, after that, Talius and Ivor can weigh in on what they do next.

Kray During Initial Attack

After being hit by the javelin, Kray is thrown to the ground by the tall man in the bird-like costume. Laying prone, Kray is assaulted by a flurry of attacks by the clawed gloves of the bird man and the fierce spear thrusts from the goat. With what seems like an impossible parry, Kray diverts the head of the spear away from his chest, making a blow that likely would have killed him into a lesser injury.

Kray feels the sting of the javelin injury burning at the site of the wound. A queasiness sets in on him. He knows the barbed head was treated with poison; he braces himself for the effects.

Successful Poison Save. No further effects, other than cosmetic descriptions above.

Qiu
Bottom R1 Begins

Qiu leaps and throws the javelin aiming to take out the bull man's hand axe if possible. The javelin hits the man in the arm, slicing through his thick costume and skin before sailing past, but he does not drop the weapon.
Javelin throw to Bull is a hit.
STR check is successful. Opponent is not Disarmed.

Qiu boldly launches straight at the horned opponent, seeking to get a hold on him strong enough to crash him down the rise. Qiu uses a pit fighter technique and the bull-costume man is soon bound in the Alijanian's grip, unable to move forward or pull away.
Grapple comparison failed. Opponent begins Grappled Condition.

Qiu tries to flip the fiendish man over backwards, but the rage and savage twisting of the bull prove too taxing for Qiu to get an opening for a lift and throw. Adjusting, Qiu instead shifts his weight and does several heaving push-pull actions, dragging the bull against his will, and repositioning him down near the base of the slanting bank. The bull remains in Qiu's grasp, very near to Talius.
Opponent prevailed against Slam attempt. Followed adjustment instructions as a movement of a Grappled Opponent.
Fall damage was not available because of landscape.
Opponent remains Grappled during remainder of Bottom R1.

Kray
BR1

Kray rolls out from his exposed position and escapes from the assault by the bird and the goat costumed men. He springs back to his feet and takes evasive action as he relocates down the hill, towards the gully and closer to the smoke at the base of the house, taking up a line of defense with Talius and Qiu.

Attackers unable to get Opportunity Attacks as Reaction because of Disengage Action.
Dodge Action and Defensive Proficiency Adjustment noted, will be incorporated in effects of Top R2.

OOC:
Talius and Ivor can have at it to finish out Round 1.

As it stands now:

Qiu, Talius, and Kray are grouped together, roughly in a line at the base of the gully.

Qui has Bull Grappled.

Ivor is about 10' away, across the mud and slightly up the sharp root-covered rise towards the house. This 10' is considered Difficult Terrain. It is also the beginning of gradual Concealment from the smoke.

From the Party Line at the base of the gully, The Hive (excluding Bull) stands at the crest of the bank, 10' away, with smoke rising up off in the background (though no Concealment effects). From left to right (as the Party sees them), they are positioned in this order: Bear, Goat, Bird, Phantom.

Of note: The Hive seems to have exhausted their missile fire. None are poised with atlatls or javelins.
May 8, 2017 6:27 pm
Seeing Kray take some serious hits, Talius steps between Kray and the oncoming hive. Then taking full advantage of the vulnerable position the bull is in, Talius drops down low and slams the bull with his shield
OOC:
Might as well try to knock him prone and have him restrained.
then swingns his hammer high aiming at the bulls shoulder trying to cause him to drop his weapon. He then follows up with a reverse swipe at the bulls collarbone.

May 8, 2017 6:41 pm
Ivor's skin is crawling and his ears seem to fill with a loud buzzing. He hears indistinct shouting from somewhere behind him but it hardly registers, filled as he is with a mind-numbing desire to end the witchman's life. He clambers up the slippery slope and onto the wooden structure, and makes his way to where he last saw his quarry.

Woth a roar, he kicks the cauldron off the deck and down to the ground.

Ivor
BR1

When Ivor kicks over the cauldron, it tumbles off of the upper deck and bangs into the roots below with a crashing bounce and roll. A large plume of smoke puffs up from the site where the heavy pot hits the ground, but now the coals are dispersed and mostly quenched by the saturated ground.

On the deck, the smoke still hangs in the air, but it begins to thin slowly once the cauldron source is removed. Ivor scans around looking for Fingol, or anything else around him. Initially focusing on the upper plane upon which he stands, Ivor sees a primary door that leads into the center of the hut on that level. The door is wooden, and closed.

To the right of the door, Ivor sees an opening and sheltered area, a sort of inlet storage opening. Inside the opening are odds and ends of tools, tarps, ropes, sticks tied together in strange formations, buckets, furs, sacks and simple boxes - an outdoor junk storage shed that is built into the house. In the back of the open storage bay, Ivor sees Thorn tossing a few things back away from the inner wall, near the back left corner of the opening.

Though not focusing primarily on the ground below, Ivor does notice some images on the hill, though murky from the smoke - figures standing up on the ridge.
OOC:
I'll leave it at that on the perception from Ivor's vantage point, and trying to incorporate Jabes' entry on what Ivor was doing. I saw the debate and commentary yesterday of whether the fight on the ground should be joined immediately by all PCs, even the ones who launched up to the house. I want to maintain neutrality on party debates, and always leave action choices completely up to characters, but also expose that I asked Jabes and Xorthan to maintain what they thought to be vantage point realism from their characters' points of views. They had just sprinted into a smoke covered hill climb, hustling in full exertion climb on treacherous ground in extremely hindered visibility, chasing and attacking an opponent. I have to admit that I think it would have been difficult from position and the sensory they had available for those guys to understand with exact clarity what unfolded for Talius, Kray, and eventually Qiu in the 6 - 12 seconds that followed. We're talking a very short amount of time, although we have huge entries on our boards. The first option they would have of seeing the Hive at all would be about right now or in the coming seconds, even if they were really looking for it by trying to really get re-situated to check back on where they just came from. Now their efforts have sort of put their attention in other directions, but Ivor tossing the cauldron overboard and the increasing sounds of battle below might change things in an equally realistic way.
Alright. Good talk!
