OOC:
For all who staged up the underwater javelins, I'm good with saying that your PC has one "locked and loaded" in advance. So they have been swimming with one free hand and the other hand gripping the high end of the javelin near the head, with the wrist anchored band fully extended and effectively hooked onto the rear launch notch.

So the first one you can fire right away as an Attack.

Any further firing would call for drawing out another javelin, notching it in the band, and extending back into firing position. It's a tricky sequence, especially underwater. It can be done and you can fire every round, but this re-loading effort gobbles up a Bonus Action to complete. It also takes the full use of both hands.

Happy Spearfishing! (Hopefully not on each other)

Seeing Hinka viciously attacked, Bryn does his best to signal the rest of the group then fires his loaded javelin.

1d6+4 : (6) + 4 = 10

Kray picks up on Bryn's signal and prepares for combat, signaling to Thorn behind him.

Lets try to stay in close together and not get separated and drawn out into the murk, which would make us extremely easy targets. 15 feet of visibility sucks, to put it lightly. We should circle the wagons, stay on defense and definitely not pursue.

Bryn
BR1

Attack: Hit

In the swirl of murk and mud, it is difficult to see the exact effects, but Bryn does see the creature jerk and thrust back, as if either struck or aware of the weapon narrowly missing.

Hinka
BR1

After escaping the Deep One's grasp, Hinka tries to turn the tables on his opponent. The little Tochoan swimmer tries to wrap up the creatures legs, trying to keep it from escaping and alerting others.

Grapple Attempt

Result: Grapple Resisted.

Hinka is no match for the Deep One however. The Tcho-Tcho is pushed away and the Deep One maintains mobility.

Kray and Maeriks both react quickly and can get into the proverbial mix and the visibility window at BR2.

Jabes, send it for BR1 on Rear Guard Detail when you are ready, Sub-Mariner.

As the team dives deeper and deeper into the murky water Ivor feels as if he is diving deeper into his own memories. Breathing through the krekutil is an alien sensation quite outside his experience but soon even that melts away. He remembers his boyhood home, diving in the freezing waters of the Miolmor Imill Coast to spear seals, as well as whales when in season. Ivor shakes his head clear of such thoughts. This isn't home. Nowhere is. He does an inventory of the light bulbs about him, and just in time sees the Deep One come up from behind and make a grab for him with its clawed, webbed hands!

* bonus action to enter Rage.

Ivor reacts instincively the way every boy of his village is taught to react when an orca comes for them: he twists to face the Deep One and kicks hard. In the same practiced motion, Ivor thrusts his trident one-handed at the monster, aiming just beyond the range of his kick, which turns him around in the water: his weapon is now at the fore, and his legs can now add power to his strikes.

Ivor
BR1

Grapple Resisted
Attack: Hit

Ivor feels the trident meet resistance and tear past, sliding along the side of the creature's hip. Not a killing blow, but likely a strong sting.

TR 2
Deep One Flanker

Realizing that the would-be victim is not out of element and vulnerable, the Deep One keeps its guard up but pulls backwards into the water, seeking to withdraw back to the concealment of the muddy waters.

Disengage Action to use Movement safely.
OOC:
Ohhhh! You know: SORRY! It's actually NOT safe to do that. The jelly fish head guy with the trident has Sentinel. You can't just back out like that, Underwater Guy.
A capable swimmer and trained to exploit retreats, Ivor shifts his weight quickly and kicks forward just enough to stay in engagement range with the Deep One. Still Ivor can recognize the superior speed and mobility of the creature. He suspects that this could be a last opportunity to make an attack on the creature before it sinks back into the veil of the outer darkness.
OOC:
Jabes, send a Reaction Attack if you want it. Trident/Net combo looking quite applicable atm I must say.

Deep One Lead

Pushing away from Hinka, the Deep One makes a strong sweep through the water with both arms and legs. Bryn sees Hinka's dark red light spin around through the cloudy water, and the eerie face of the Deep One shining in the red light briefly, bulging black eyes shining, before it fades back into concealment.

Disengage Action to avoid Reaction by Hinka.
Movement.

At beginning of BR2, Bryn is about 10' from Hinka, from the starting point of the Deep One's departure.

Kray is approx 15 feet behind Bryn, and sees the commotion. Also has seen the "Danger" wave from Bryn, but can't really make out what is happening beyond. He can see the faint glow of Hinka's red light, shadowy swells of mud, debris and Hinka's rough form in and out of the reflected pale glow - but the other details are just not perceivable.

BR2 is open for the Line Leaders. Bryn and Kray.

On the Rear Guard: last breath of TR2 Reaction open for Ivor. Results of that may inform BR2 which will follow immediately after,
with Ivor and Maeriks having options.
Jun 23, 2017 3:22 pm
After getting a full visual on the Deep one, Bryn swims father back toward the group as far as he can get to try and signal the rest of the group. He then looks to Kray and puts two fingers up to his eyes and then puts up one finger and points to where the Deep One disappeared. Bryn then readies another javelin.

If it's too much to swim and load the javelin I will retcon what I wrote, just let me know.

I will hold my action until I have visual on the Deep One.
Jun 23, 2017 3:58 pm
As the Deep One attempts to swim away, Ivor tries to ensnare it with his net.

Again, a fragment of memory swims up to the surface of Ivor's mind: His father, coaching him in the casting of the net underwater. There you go, my young pup. Steady...easy does it. Use the current, not the strength of your arm.  There, that's it...
OOC:
TR2 Reaction: Net Attack. Restrains on a hit.

Kray nods understanding of Bryn's signal and maintains vigilance, moving close enough to see Hinka and still Bryn, a glance to the rear before doing so.

I'll use my action to have a ready shot on the next threat that appears. Also, I'd like to think we could say we retro-planned staying tight during the dive, meaning Hinka would know to stay close with the group and not just swim on?

And maybe that Deep One that was on Hinka is going to swim off and warn his friends, can't be sure; if he is, we won't catch him. Maybe he's just out of visual range and going to rush us again. Either way, I think we keep the focus on staying tight and repelling attacks. Ideally we get back to back in a circle type cluster, eyes vigilant above and below as well. Ideally.

J, I know visibility is 15 feet, and maybe I'm just forgetting, but how far away can we see the lights?

Front Of Line
BR2

Bryn, Hinka, and Kray take a moment to consolidate, pulling closer together so that they can communicate as best as possible with a set of hand signals. They let the back end of the line catch up, with Thorn arriving. Rutcranna sends signal to Thorn that there is an attack to the rear.

The Deep One that attacked Hinka is nowhere to be seen. The large stone blocks are seen nearby below, looming in silence in the underwater landscape of the lake floor.

Normal visibility is about 15'. The lights can be seen and give shadowy images out to about 30'.

Ivor/Deep One Flanker
TR2 (cont'd)

Ivor's net loops around the retreating creature, stopping its progress. The Deep One weaves and thrashes to escape...but cannot seem to work an opening to slip through.

Result: Escape unsuccessful. Opponent Restrained in net as of BR2.
OOC:
Jabes, look like Ivor bagged a seal just like old times. Stab away for BR2?

Also CB, explain to us what Maeriks decided to do. He has option to move back to engage alongside Ivor, or Rutcranna has stopped ahead and is awaiting signal, also signaling that there is a halt to the front.

Nice catch Jabes! Drag it towards the rest of us so we can help finish it? Or at least Thorn and Maeriks can help waste that thing. Finished it off quick like.
Jun 23, 2017 8:57 pm
Signal from the front, something's happening. Behind, the Dannian gold presser, Ivor? Ya, Ivor was his name. Need to let him know about the front. Maeriks turns and sees the two black shadows light up by the haze of light in the murky water. Ivor's under attack! He shifts his orientation quickly and swims hard for Ivor. The damned flimsy javelin shifting forward and backward in his grip as he tries to focus on swimming. Too distracting. Can't shoot it now tho, Ivor may be hit. Frustration spiking quickly after just a couple breast strokes, Maeriks fires off the javelin to the side, safely away from anyone in the group. Then, with a smooth action mid stroke, he removes the dagger from around his neck, loops the lanyard around his wrist, and makes ready to strike. Drawing closer, Maeriks is able to distinguish the Deep One from Ivor, and he makes the course correction. Like a freshwater narwhal, the huge Maeriks smashes into the creature with his dagger outstretched before him.

Maeriks
BR2

Attack: Hit.

Maeriks glides in and slams his dagger into the captured Deep One. The blade cuts deep and blood bursts out into the water. The creature jerks away from the stinging blade, still struggling to free from the net, but now severely injured from the torso wound.
OOC:
Looks like Ivor has the last option for BR2. Deep One Flanker still restrained.

Thorn and Rutcranna have caught up to the front of the line now - how much space is there between them and the tussle going on behind? Can the front of the line still see Ivor's and Maeriks' little lights?
