The seas are calm this morning, and you make good time. The raft manages to hold, and whatever monstrosities Moss had seen during his captivity do not trouble your journey.

As you approach the island and the village, you can make out a lot more detail. The village sits atop a low, rocky cliff and straddles either side of a river and sits at the foot of a mighty waterfall. Distinctive wooden buildings with thatched roofs face inward toward the water, and scarlet red lanterns hang from every structure. Bridges criss-cross the water way connecting the two halves of the village.

On the rocky shore at the base of the village, defenses have been erected. Tall, wooden watchtowers with arrow slits overlook the rocky shore, and large wooden beams jut out of the water making a dangerous maze for medium to large size ships to reach the shore.

Despite the level of defensive preparations, you see people going about their lives in brightly coloured costumes. Farmers are tilling fields, fishermen are laying nets in the river, and pockets of children play in the fields. However, when you are about a mile off shore, you sense that the village has spotted you. Warriors with spears and shields begin assembling at the top of the cliffs, and a figure in black stands atop a hill overseeing their movements.

OOC:
You are about a mile off from the village in the water and the alert villagers have noticed your approach. What would you like to do?

Having little need for deception, Elspa stands and waves broadly with an open hand.

Ygne stands near Elspa (as the raft is none too big), arms crossed and looking the stark contrast to the barbarian's welcoming gesture. She poses no suggestion for discretion or misdirection.

Frick lets Elspa wave. The others can hear him mutter, "Hope they have some rum..."
Apr 5, 2017 5:10 pm
"Or gold," Ygne suggests. Without turning to the others, she explains, "They wouldn't need it here. What're they gonna buy? More twig shitshacks and spears?" Ygne scoffs, as though she knows what she's talking about.

"If they don't need it," Elspa states plainly, "why would they have it?"
Apr 5, 2017 5:14 pm
Ygne furrows her brow, and tries to explain, gesturing with her hand, "They won't, for long."

Elspa cocks her head. "But if they didn't need it, they's prob'ly never had it. Else why keep it?"
Apr 5, 2017 5:26 pm
"Well, everyone needs alcohol, so I'm still prayin' to whatever gods are listening!"
Apr 5, 2017 5:30 pm
Ygne parts her lips to speak, but finds she doesn't have the words. She pauses, pondering Elspa's logic, as she scratches her cheek. Eventually she speaks up again, further demonstrating her ignorance, though initially sounding a little disappointed, "Then it's probably all still lying around out there in caves and dirt and such." She grins, looking awfully strange with the swelling on her lip and eye, "I don't even have to trade for it."
Apr 5, 2017 5:38 pm
To Elspa, that makes sense. She nods, satisfied with Ygne's explanation.

Ygne seems to notice this, and, feeling awfully smart for it, grins brightly from ear to ear. She unfolds her arms and plants her hands firmly upon her hips.

Jarveena shakes her head and concentrates on keeping the tiller steady. For a fleeting moment she remembers a happier time, taking her dinghy out into the bay as a young girl, reveling in the wild freedom of it. The wind picks up and snaps the sail, bringing Jarveena back to the present. She directs Moss to reef the sheet as a precaution. As the raft steadies and slows she shades her eye and scans the shore.

"Are we able to stop?" Elspa asks. "Don't know if these folk will take kindly to us just barging in without a chat first."
Apr 5, 2017 9:34 pm
Listening to Jarveena's indication since she seems to know what she's doing,
We'll just have to land outside the village and wait, that way they will see we mean no harm and probably send someone to speak to us.

"Aye. Git on 'em oars." Jarveena heaves to, and the raft slows to a stop. Then she points out a spot by the defenses where they can berth.

Elspa takes up an oar and sits to one side to help paddle the raft to shore.

You cross the remaining distance in good time, your little raft proving itself more sturdy than it looks. You arrive at the shore under the careful watch of the villagers gathered at the top of the cliff 50 feet above your heads. One of them, a woman, calls down to you. She wears the same colourful garments as the rest of her tribe but she carries herself like sailor. You cannot understand her words, and when that becomes obvious, she tries again, and then again, each time making a different set of sounds. On her forth try, she speaks in broken Low Atlantean:

"Strangers! I can smell you from my cliff! What the fuck actually?"
Apr 6, 2017 3:57 am
Moss looks around at everybody, then shakes his head and starts chuckling.
Been around the trogs for so long... I think I might need a bath....
OOC:
Moss speaks so only the group hears.

Rygnar begins to shift uncomfortably as his anger rises at the woman's insult, his fists clench and his eyes narrow in on her, he lets out a low guttural growl as he begins to walk towards her with a scowl on his face.
