Strangely, there are no taverns here, so you set out in search of where they brewed the strong mead you had in the morning. Your investigations lead you to the back of a communal kitchen hut. You locate several large wooden barrels that are being used to ferment the honey wine, but a big woman with a kitchen knife waves you away from the modest brewery.

ELSPA and RYGNAR

You return to the cave before nightfall to find three wispy balls of light bobbing up and down near the cave entrance. They illuminate the entrance to the cave but do not block it. This is a new phenomenon to both of you.

Ygne appears stunned for a moment, but quickly proceeds flailing and shouting threats of stabbing and choking should Frick not put her down. They are all, as her companion would know, in good fun (whether or not she'd admit that), but threats nonetheless.

OOC:
This so-called "fastest girl" has Jarveena's interest piqued. Would RP trying to find out more, but as mentioned elsewhere, I'm slammed at work so an OK to fast forward to the scheduled duel.

Indeed, just as Auntie Zilla said it would be, an hour before nightfall a young woman emerges from a hut with scarlet ribbons threaded through her hair, but she is not what you expected: she is clearly not from this tribe. Her hair matches the colour of the ribbons, and she wears a black breastplate with matching gauntlets, inlaid with intricate gold patterns. Two ornate gilded rapiers hang at her hips that look like they were made for someone bigger than her.

In flawless low Atlantean she greets you: "Hail and well met, outsider. I understand you have something for me?"
I believe I do, Moss hands her the package, you'll have to forgive me my curiosity but might I inquire what is in the package and what you will do with it ?

The large woman just glares sternly at Ygne, arms crossed. You get the feeling that Ygne might not be the first kid trying to sneak a drink out of the punch bowl.

She unwraps the package, revealing a gold chain with a heart-shaped pendant, in which a large red gemstone is centered. There is an inscription on the back, which she reads quietly to herself, tears forming in her eyes. She dashes them away and gives fiery her hair a toss as she regains her composure.

"It was my father's. It has been at the bottom of the ocean for 15 years, and our mutual friend found it for me."

As she places it around her neck, a fire grows within the jewel, letting out a heat strong enough that you can feel it from your distance.

"With this, I can defeat The Seventh. Then The Sixth, The Fifth, The Forth, The Third, The Second, and at last The First - the man who killed my father. Thank you for delivering it."

She pulls you in close and looks carefully into your eyes. Her voice is cold and sharp as steel.

"Dealings with the Auntie rarely go well. Be sure you are willing to pay the price either way."

Not knowing what these strange lights are, Elspa tries to wave them away with her axe like one would shoo a fly.

Voices come from the lights, sounding like distance whispers.

" ... your friend is in danger .. '

" ... he left the path ... "

" ... the forest will eat him soon ... "

" ... follow us ... "

" ... to your friend ... "

" ... follow us .... "

" ... follow us ... "

Elspa tilts her head back in bewilderment, and looks at Rygnar. "You left the path?"

"... the one who brought your food ... "

"... the one who paid your price ..."

"... the one with the heart of darkness ..."

"Yeah, it is pretty dark out," says Elspa, glancing over her shoulder at the sky. "Anyway, if you... what are you?"

Slowly, almost in a whisper, Moss ask...
...Who is she ?..

"If that's the case,"
says Elspa, "and since you seem to know where he is, why don't you lead him like a lost lamb to safety?"

"What the villagers call her translates into Old Snake and she's been around as long as anyone can remember. When I was a kid the village mothers used to tell us stories about how she would lure us to the beech with toys and cook us for dinner in her pot."

She pauses for a moment, chuckling to herself.

"Guess I was never good at listening. When it comes down to it, she can give you an edge. When you're in the dark and all alone, you can find yourself giving anything for edge - a nice sharp one. Just got to be careful you don't die on that edge."

"Honestly, you're probably better off never going back to that disgusting cave if you have things to live for."

"Not very good protectors if you need someone else to do the protecting for you; fuckin' titles." Rygnar scoffs then turns to Elspa "If he can't make it across a beach without a guide, is he worth babysitting?"
Apr 19, 2017 7:11 am
Elspa returns the scoff. "Think they've got the wrong lamb. Fellow we know ain't cried for months in that cave, why's he starting now?

"Go tell the villagers about him,"
she says to the lights. "They's prob'ly got a stick for that."

FRICK, JARVEENA, MOSS, YGNE

"I'd better go, I must attend to some last minute preparations." She looks like she wants to say something else, but she doesn't.

The next hour unfolds with much fanfare. The whole village begins filing out to the front of the chief's hut, forming a wide circle and lighting dozens of torches. The tribe is positively vibrating with excitement and tension. Soon the light fades to darkness and the entire jungle begins its eerie descent into silence. The conversations die down until everything and everyone is hushed.

Then, She Who Has Beyond the Reef leaps into the center of the circle and screams at the top of her lungs!

"AYYYLLILILILILI"

The crowd explodes, roaring back into the night. You swear that the whole island must shake from the thunder of the great drums that swell and eventually drown out even the crowd's roars.

The two warriors emerge from opposite sides of the circle. The lithe and beautiful woman in red ribbons, and massive and hulking Seventh. Both salute each other, and draw their weapons: Red's twin steel-and-gold rapiers reflect the fire opposite to The Seventh's massive, black ironwood greatsword. Red sets herself to defensive stance while The Seventh begins to circle like a shark.
