Bandit Init - (1d20+1, 1d20+1, 1d20+1)
1d20+1 : (4) + 1 = 5
1d20+1 : (15) + 1 = 16
1d20+1 : (2) + 1 = 3
Leo Init - (1d20)
(20) = 20

Leohand holds out his hand as a strong beam of energy streaks towards bandit 2 (the one who rolled a 16 for initiative). After the spell has been casted, he moves back 25 feet away from the group of bandits.
Casting Eldritch Blast
IE: 1d4+1 = 3 which would turn to be 30 feet.

OOC:
Is there a specific distance? I am in an arena type game and we roll 1d4+1 to determine the distance in feet. IE: 1d4+1 = 3 which would turn to be 30 feet.

a few points: 1. you wouldn't know their initiatives as a means of who to attack necessarily at this point.
2. List what spell you're casting, makes it easier for me to check effects and such. I figure it's Eldritch blast, but for my sanity and such, just an ooc note works.
3. What do you mean by specific distance? You are in a wooded clearing about 150' across. They were about 40 feet from you when you started. You are now about 65' away.

OOC:
1. I wasn't trying to make it seem like I am attacking him by the means of his initiative. That was just the way I was identifying who I attacked. It bugs me when someone says "the bandit closest to me" when all of the bandits are, if not then close to, the same distance away. I apologize if it seem as if I was [purposefully] metagaming.2. Okie dokie. I will. Post will be edited so keep an eye out.
3. That was what I was asking for, if it isn't metagaming...

good deal. As for the dimensions, my general rule is if it's something you'd know by looking at a tabletop battlemat, you'd be able to know it here. It probably is considered metagaming to a point, but I'm fine with that kind of meta gaming since you'd know what kind of ranges you could hit with stuff.May 5, 2017 12:48 pm
Your blast of eldritch energy sails just wide of the lead bandit. He scowls at you and sets off at a dead run, pulling his scimitar free of its home on his hip. He ends up just outside of melee range from you.
The other two bandits raise crossbows and let bolts sail towards you! The first slams into your shoulder, dealing 4 damage! As you stagger slightly from the impact, it moves you just out of the way of the second bolt, which buries itself harmlessly in the dirt beyond you.
You're up!

Leohand reacts to the crossbow bolt and points towards the bandit of which had damaged him and the bandit is momentarily surrounded by hellish flames. Then he retreats his speed of 25 feet to get him a safer distance away from the lead bandit of whom is angry.
Casting Hellish Rebuke. The bandit must succeed on a DEX (DC 10) save throw or suffer 2d10 damage. After retreating the 25 feet, he releases another beam of crackling energy towards the lead bandit.

You point your finger, and the creature that damaged you is momentarily surrounded by hellish flames. The creature must make a Dexterity saving throw. It takes 2d10 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
OOC:
I am quite fuzzy on how the reaction feature works, so I am just going to roll an action of eldritch blast below this OOC chat if it turns out I can do a reaction as well as an action.Casting Eldritch Blast

A beam of crackling energy streaks toward a creature within range. Make a ranged spell Attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes 1d10 force damage.

The man spins out of the way as your flaming blast streaks by hi, barely singing him. In a flurry, they reload their crossbows and take another shot at you each. Meanwhile, the other man takes his full movement and gets right next to you, slashing at you one time with his scimitar.
The first bolt, from the man you singed, slices along the outside of your arm, dealing 3 damage!
You're up. Yes, you may take 1 reaction per round and it doesn't impact your ability to take normal action (typically).

OOC:
Typically, when you cast a spell that requires a ranged attack (like eldritch blast) and are within melee range of an enemy, you make that attack at disadvantage. That roll missed and we're not running crit failures with extra nastiness in here, so no need to reroll. Secondly, because you left his reach without using the "disengage" action, he gets to use his reaction to make an attack of opportunity against you.His first swing misses as you retreat, but as he closes to you his second swing bites into your arm for 2 damage.
Both bolts sail wide.
You're up.

Down for the count. Glad I made the mistake and learned more in here rather than in the adventures!May 6, 2017 1:09 am
OOC:
That's part of why I like the dojo environment. Let's you get a feel for your person. The one of yours hit for 2 damage, I forgot to put that bit in. It didn't change the outcome. Granted, had you hit with the other ones, you would have dropped 1 for sure, likely a second. All in all, fun experience!May 6, 2017 1:14 am
OOC:
For sure! If you want, I wouldn't mind running through it again. Bandits are fine, but if there is another "monster" that you think would be just as challenging, we could try it. As well. I am still getting accustomed to playing a squishier warlock rather than my tankier classes.May 6, 2017 1:18 am

Sure! I figure we can just roll through fights in here pretty easily. I'll set a scene in a bit.May 6, 2017 1:20 am

Sounds good! I am really enjoying what you have going on here. At first I was debating whether or not I would like it... but I LOVE IT! Aha!May 6, 2017 1:29 am
You find yourself in a relatively dim tavern. There's a lone barman and a simple fire crackling in the fireplace. Suddenly, from the corner of your eye, you see a set of four glittering lights shimmer into existence into the corner of the room. Through the lights, you see a shadow in the corner darken and a scrawny creature cackles at you, babbling in a language you don't know!
Once again, a perfect init for you.....you go first!
