Out of Character thread

So....it seems we may have lost 2 of 3 players. Caedmonr, we have several options at this point. We can continue as a solo campaign, we can recruit more players, or we can end. Since I mostly created this campaign for you (and the other two), I'll let you decide.

If you're still willing, I'd like to continue on. It could be more fun with more people to play off of, also the way I've made choices for Chanler's skills and such he basically has no combat capabilities. However, the option of going into a fight he's not prepared for would lead to some interesting and fun character development opportunities. So what about recruiting players, but continuing solo in the meantime?

Sounds good to me. Also, don't assume you always have to fight! I will (almost) always make sure there are multiple ways to resolve things that you are faced with.

Yeah that's one of the things I've most enjoyed about this so far. I recently found a local gaming store that does dnd adventure league twice a week. I'm only able to go once a week, but when I do I find there's a lot less roleplaying than I prefer.

I was wondering if anyone felt like sharing their character ideas before I crank mine out? I will play anything (except for a Tiefling) including classes available. Also, I noticed that in the Generation thread everyone was generating characters by using 4d6 without dropping the lowest.. is that the case?

We have a bard in play, and ProfessorPyrate just submitted a cleric.

No, they did drop the lowest. There was a bit of confusion during character generation, but basically any standard stat generation is fine.

Also, no evil characters, please. :)

No evil characters - can do! (I don't do evil.. maybe some emotionally charged reactions, but not evil.)

Welcome, new players! Please feel free to discuss here what you would like to create as a party. Character creation rules will be reiterated in the Generation thread. It is absolutely okay for characters to have the same role or class; it is my job to design or modify encounters to make them possible but challenging for the party.

Any general questions, ask them here.

Hi guys, glad to be aboard here :) What characters are we looking at in the party already?

A bard and a rogue, so far.

I’m leaning towards a monk with an entertainer background.

I was waiting to see what else the party was thinking before I got too crazy with my pick. I could play either a fighter or paladin.

Honestly, I would play any class.. even magic user.

marithyme has indicated that class/race selection won't matter, as the story will fit what the party consists of.

Create a character whose story you want to tell. Or, look through the player’s handbook and see if inspiration strikes.

I think Delta is probably like me, a person who likes to wait until everyone else has picked so that they can balance out the party.

Cancerman is right, in that you, as a party, don't need to worry about "filling the holes" and covering roles, because I won't throw anything at you that is insurmountable based on whatever skills and abilities the party has.

So you truly can choose whatever character you've wanted to play. A fighter or paladin would be just fine, as would a magic user if you want to branch out. The most important thing is to choose something you will have fun playing.

If you still want to focus on balancing the party, you might think about out-of-combat roles. :)

Marithyme is correct! I also didn't want to spoil another pick prematurely since I am far more flexible! I fashion myself a creative writer and have many character concepts as a DM of my own game! I was simply doing this out of consideration~

Hey - I posted in the official thread and it didn't give me the option to post as Aestan. When I checked the characters I show mine is submitted, but ProfessorPyrate is still in the game instead of me.

Sorry! Hadn't approved your character yet. You should be able to go back and edit your post to change "post as".

Just to let everyone know I'm having a few internet issues at home at the moment (damn thing keeps dropping out, have reported it and waiting on a new router which should be some time this week) and I'll be going on holiday at the end of the week so my ability to regularly post will be a tad cut down for the next couple of weeks

I will be on a family trip from 6 Oct through 11 Oct, and will have limited access. I should be able to check in at least once a day when back at the hotel, but my participation will be otherwise diminished.
