Marie-Louise, as you inspect the books, you find nothing remotely helpful in portal creation. Some appear to be self-help books. "Overcoming male baldness", "Learn Abyssal Now!", as well as sheets that appear to be balance sheets, detailing numbers in and out, but without any other information.

Tolwir, when you open the door, it swings easily, revealing a dimly lit library with deep wooden shelves stuffed with all manner of books!

Tolwir stands in the doorway a moment and lets out a small, defeated sigh at the number of books.
He moves back to ML, and waves slightly to her, motioning with the other hand towards the library.

Flipping through the books and sheets Marie-Louise lets out an exasperated sigh. She picks up the book about baldness and turns to hand it to Revelry when Towlir grabs her attention, motioning towards the library. She about drops the book, then shoves it at Towlir, not looking at him at all, but silently moving into the library, inhaling the scent of books and closing her eyes for a second to enjoy the "normalcy" for a bit. When she opens her eyes again she goes to work, starting on the left side of the bottom shelf, reading titles on spines and covers, perhaps peeking inside a few books, hoping to find the right books in here.

Tolwir will take the pillowcases from the bed, and take the pillows out. He'll follow ML into the library and begin putting books she passes over into the cases, provided that they look interesting, rare, or expensive. ornate or strange bindings are the biggest tell for him, after title, but he'll also take special not of anything ML pauses on, but passes up. He does his best to stack the books so that they won't open and damage the pages.

These books are much more interesting looking. There are several with titles that would suggest varying forms of blood magic, summoning rituals, magical extortion techniques, devil contract law, things of that nature.

One in particular looks very interesting, as it is stuffed with reams of additional paper, with hand scribbled notes, though not in a language any of you understands.

Suddenly, as Marie-Louise pulls out a thick black tome titled "Daemons of the Abyss and How to Identify Them", a soft grinding echoes through the small room and the bookshelves begin to sink into the floor. They very rapidly appear to be forming a set of stairs heading down from this level. A sickly green-purple light shimmers up from the newly exposed room.

Stitch grabs the How to Speak Abyssal book and thumbs through it.
OOC:
would this book eventually aid me in learning a new language?

Well that was unexpected... Shall we go, and investigate Marie-Louise?
Jul 16, 2018 11:20 pm
OOC:
It WOULD help you learn a new language, with a few months study. Perhaps lessened if you can find an instructor to help. :)

Stitch puts the book into his pack, thinking that this will be some good downtime reading, but not right now.

Tolwir looks at the few books he managed to put away before the bookcases disappeared and sighs. He'll look at them later, hopefully he'll actually be able to understand them. If not him, perhaps someone else.

Seeing the pillowcase in Towlir's hands Marie-Louise raises an eyebrow before handing him book after book. Definitely all about the magical extortion techniques, summoning rituals and devil contract law. She hufs at the notes that just don't make sense at all, tucking the book they're in under her arm while continuing her search. As the books disappear after picking up the copy of "Daemons of the Abyss and How to Identify Them" a small hint of panic creeps up her throat, making her whimper. She leans forward towards the light, leaning, with respect, on the first bookshelf step of the stairs, mind racing in search of an explanation for this colour.
She looks up at Stitch, reminding herself that losing the books might not be a horrible thing to him, explaining his short recovery time. She nods, gets up, and steps aside to let Stitch, and any others that want to go first, go first. She holds the most interesting book/"insert title here" close to her chest as she follows, only half wishing nobody gets eaten by whatever is waiting down there.

Stitch, you head down the staircase formed by the bookshelves, along with anyone else that follows along. As you descend, you find yourselves in a small room, only about fifteen feet in either dimension. A massive circle of runes decorates the floor and you can see the weird light is from a basin in the middle of the room full of a liquid. A polished obsidian ring with various arcane runes runs in a channel around the rim of the bowl.

The staircase descends down the western wall of the space. On the eastern wall is a series of gems with runes carved into them, set into sockets forming a horizontal row across the wall, about four feet off the ground. Marie-Louise, you recognize many of the runic indicators as being names of locations within Feyshear; including Nightspire Keep, Wavebreak Market, and the Dark Market.

Marie Louise, I don't know exactly what these runes mean, but are they our way out of here?

Stitch would like to inspect for any traps

Tolwir takes a defensive stance at the top of the stairs. Such runes and magic is sadly too advanced for him.
OOC:
how much has Tolwir heard about the other's sanctioned investigation?

Marie-Louise walks a few steps behind Stitch going down the stairs, but once they enter the room she pushes past him, immediately focused on the runes on the floor, edge of the basin and on the wall. She holds up her finger as Stitch speaks, reading the runes a second time before turning to him and Revelry. These runes on the wall are places in Feyshear, but I don't know what these are for exactly... I think we might need the professor for that, he might know if it is some sort of spell, or just a weird combination of words. But looking at it I'd say we are exactly where we want to be! So, who wants to pick that daft man up? while speaking of the professor being needed Marie-Louise's ace goes a little dark, but in the end she looks hopeful and happy at the others.
Aug 2, 2018 5:14 pm
OOC:
What did we do with the professor again, I don't remember?
Aug 3, 2018 12:54 am
OOC:
We'll say that Revelry ran back sneakily and recovered the diminutive professor.
The squat little halfling wanders in at the end of Revelry's blade, muttering, Aye, aye. I'll be moving along now, no need to get so prickly!

When he walks down the stairs, his eyes stretch as wide as dinner plates, amazed at the scene before him.

What in the Deeps is this!?

OOC:
and Revelry took Vlur with him too? Are we going to leave him to be eaten by fluffy too:-(?
[ +- ] in the profs head
Marie-Louise's face turns very sour while she thinkspeaks to the professor, obviously still not happy she can't figure it out on her own, but knowing it would be too dangerous to just randomly try something, especially considering where they are now. No, she needed to convince the professor to help them now and then think of a way to leave him behind for Gwar'hull'ij. She takes a deep breath, forcing herself to first focus on the professor and what he does and says, not wanting to miss anything important she might need later
Aug 4, 2018 8:13 pm
OOC:
Yes, Vlur came back with Revelry as well. :)
Hmm, yes. Well. These runes on the bowl, and over on the wall, they are definitely used for some kind of teleportation. They read very similar to normal teleportation circles in Feyshear. It is, well, it is something else. There are extra runes here, that I wouldn't expect. I'm not fully sure why though. But this, the bowl, it's less teleportation oriented. It looks - YES - it allows for remote viewing of someone on the other side of the spell. But, I don't know of a spell that would do anything like that.

While the little man wanders around the basin, face scrunched in thought, Vlur leans back against the wall, seemingly distracted. While doing so, he bumps into one of the gems. A faint click echoes throughout the chamber and the runes on the basin flare up, an image of a marketplace shimmers into existence over the pool of liquid, showing you people wandering through stalls. The chamber is filled with the very loud sounds of a bustling marketplace. Half the runes on the floor start pulsing with a purpley light.

Stitch jumps back at this, a look of intrigue crosses his face. Well that was a neat trick Vlur! what happens if I push a different one
OOC:
Stitch will press a different Rune, lets say the 3rd from the left ;)
