OOC Chat Thread

Alright gents, we'll get going here, but I just wanted to have a little primer for the game.

Two main things:

1. I've been told before that I run a sandbox style game. I don't think that's particularly accurate, but that's what I've been told by past players (who quit because they didn't like it). I would agree with that assessment, on the basis that I do not often come out and say, via NPCs or OOC exposition: "You need to go do this." So I wanted to give you a heads up regarding that. My game will require you to make story-guiding decisions. And this works best when you embrace that. I'm not gonna say "There's no wrong decision." cuz IC actions will have IC consequences. But I want the story to go where you guys want it to go, so I need you to show me where you want it to go with your IC choices.

2. While I am the GM, I need you guys to help me inject Star Wars-y goodness into the game. The nature of PBP is such that there is a much more limited - less fluid - exchange of information about any given thing going on, right? This is especially true for "setting the scene" type information exchange. So part of what I ask that you guys do with every post is to a.) bring the Star Wars, but also b.) I want you to embrace a certain amount of creative license. When I post something and you're left reading it and thinking "Uhhh, but what about X, and Y? Is there anything like that?", I don't want you to stop the game and ask me, I'd rather you put on your GM hat and inject reasonable levels of worldbuilding with your post.

For example, say I've described a scene in a tap-kaf bar, and I didn't say there was a closet over there, but you'd like there to be a closet, cuz you could go in there and put on your disguise. Well, if it makes sense that there's a closet there given what else you know, just narrate into existence that there is a closet there. Or if it's a scene on the street, and didn't say there was a bantha down the street, but you'd like there to be cuz you want to use it to cause a distraction. Well, if it makes sense given what else you know about the scene I've set, just tell us all that there's a bantha down the street.

Does that make sense?

Obviously I don't want you abusing this control, I don't want you to use it to create unreasonable advantages for yourself, or to change a scenes tone or the narrative direction in a big way. If you want to do some worldbuilding, but you think you may be assuming too much creative license? Then ask. Ask a leading question; hey, uh, is there any closets around? or, is there any domestic creatures around by chance? I'll either say, Yes, or make a "luck roll" (or say No :P), but the point is; my ability to communicate everything that's going on is greatly reduced due to the nature of PBP. So use your posts to bring the Star Wars universe to life AND to make things interesting and dramatic.

Cool?

That's all I got.

The intro IC post is just to set the scene a bit, I'll bring us up to something to bite into fairly rapidly here.

Remember: Be bold! Bring the Star Wars! Use your creative license to make things interesting!

Seeya in game.

I just have one question about how light side points might come into play here. If we feel that we might be stepping on toes, could we spend a light side point to just keep the flow going?
Oct 24, 2017 2:23 pm
What do you mean Faust?
Oct 24, 2017 2:36 pm
Just that light side points can be used as a bit of luck or deus ex machina normally, so to emsquared's point about just rolling with it instead of slowing down a PBP game I was wondering if we could spend a light side point as part of a post if we felt we might be taking too many liberties (like spotting a bantha on the streets of Coruscant).

Yes, faust, you can. But the "power" of your artistic authority mentioned above is a much lesser power than that of your normal option and ability to spend a Destiny Point to create a narrative circumstance. You can always spend Destiny to make something happen, but that is a much more significant level of control, so if you're gonna do that - make it good. Not just to add a closet to a room ;)

Question: Were we taken at a young age to be trained or did we have to seek out the Je'daii?
Nov 10, 2017 4:00 pm
You're never "taken", but if you were born to Je'daii (on Tython), yes you would start young. If you were born off-Tython, on any one of the other Settled Worlds, the Je'daii would make an attempt to convince your parents to have you trained, but ultimately it's up to your parents while you're a child. And opinions of the Je'daii have not been very high for the past hundred years or two.

Awesome. That fact makes it more fun.

Just got through the posts, boning up on the rules and classes now. Should have a character for you late tonight or early tomorrow.

Sounds good! Glad to have you on board, Apex!

Glad to be here. Have started 2 Star Wars games and both ended before 30xp.

Well, my first Star Wars campaign is coming up on its 1 year Anniversary (maybe a little under 100 xp, roughly 4 "sessions" worth of play maybe?), and I'm hoping this one has the same legs.

You mentioned that there is no lightsabers but a force imubed blades. If I took Mystic, Makashi Duelist and took the Makashi Technique, what weapon could I use to benifit from it?
[ +- ] Makashi Technique

Force-imbued blades will use the Lightsaber skill.

Sorry for the question salvo and my lack of grasp at the moment.
So they would cost the same as a lightsaber and not be available at starting?
Nov 10, 2017 8:04 pm
Actually Force-imbued blades (which is to say, primarily, the crystals) are probably in the neighborhood of 10x more rare and therefore 10x more expensive than in the base game. Which is to say, you will never buy one :)

You are starting at a Je'daii Temple called "the Forge", which as a Journeyer, you know many choose to forge their Force-imbued blade when they are on this leg of their Journey.

Sweet. Good to know. That is definitly something my character wants to pursue. He is working to have the best technique. Thanks man.

Hey all, so I'm experimenting with Subforums and Permissions so I can start keeping some information in-forum, rather than on my laptop (which I don't have with me often).

Can you guys poke around the "GM Resource Forum" and let me know what you can/can't see?

I'm expecting that you can read the Thread titles, but hopefully not any of the content...

Thank you!
