"While I won't lie, I do hate those monsters with a passion, sadly making a mysterious illness which targets them and cannot be healed by magic is beyond my abilities.

Durgrim feels Janis is quite sincere.

"Fair enough." Looking to the prisoner, Durgrim asks in a gruff voice. "There any more of ye in 'ere? What's behind that door?" He points to the far door with his Earthbreaker.
OOC:
I'll just continue on Roland's list of things we'd like to know..
Apr 24, 2018 4:04 pm
"Assuming you killed our mates, I'm the last one. As for the door, I do not know what is behind it. We noticed it was warm a long time ago, and further inspection of the door revealed that the lock had melted somewhat. We simply ended up using the door as a source of warmth to get us through the winters. Whatever is behind that door was of more use to us this way...

"Who was the fey creature in the ring and why was it here?"
Apr 24, 2018 5:24 pm
"When we arrived here, she appeared and begged us to free her. We tried attacking her, but she quickly escaped. She seems unable to step outside of that circle over there though she seems to be able to disappear. I was surprised to see her appear during the fight, we hadn't seen her in a long while, probably because it was clear we had no intentions of freeing her... Aside from her desire for freedom, and her ability to appear in this circle, I know nothing of her."
Apr 24, 2018 5:30 pm
"What is your relationship to the devil Strahd?"
Apr 24, 2018 7:13 pm
"Strahd, he's the leader of this accursed land right? We've heard the name when we came here three years ago. We've never met him, but people seem to fear him in these parts. I assume he must live in that big castle which dominates the land."
Apr 24, 2018 7:38 pm
"Why are you in this land? What purpose do you serve?"
Apr 24, 2018 9:34 pm
"We were like you before, adventurers looking for gold and fame. We came here to hunt werewolves. How foolish we were... unbeknownst to us, it was us who were the hunted. We contracted lycanthropy during an ambush. We could no got back to civilization, so we searched for our own den and found this place. We've been here ever since, surviving as best we can, hunting, warring with the pack who infected us."

Perhaps overhearing the tale about the hot door, Veroth examines the purported melted lock and decides to see if it can be opened. If he can unlock it, he will not open the door however.

Rolls

Lock: Perception, Disable Device - (1d20+11, 1d20+19)

1d20+11 : (17) + 11 = 28

1d20+19 : (14) + 19 = 33

Veroth examines the door and notices it is actually made of stone and only look like wood. The ancient-looking lock does seem to have indeed melted a bit and seems to have originally been of very good quality, though Veroth is convinced the damage must've made the lock less complex now. He then manages to unlock the door on his first try.
Apr 25, 2018 2:33 am
"This door is now unlocked." He puts his picks away, draws his rapier and takes a step to the side.
Apr 25, 2018 6:25 am
Durgrim walks over to Veroth. "Ah, what a swift hand ye' 'ave, Brother." Stroking his beard in a thoughtful manner, Durgrim looks at the door with scepticism. "Which brings us back around to; Checkin' it now, or gather our senses first?"
OOC:
We're low on resouces, so I guess we _should_ rest first, though, well.. Durgrim's not one to back down from a challenge. Think we could rest here?
Apr 25, 2018 11:28 am
I vote we rest and attempt to question the fey creature.
Apr 25, 2018 1:13 pm
"Rest would be good. I still need to apologize to the creature for my mistaken attack on her," Darren says, ashamed of his earlier actions.
Apr 25, 2018 1:20 pm
Veroth nods at the others. He knows that they rely on the spellcasters efficacy. "I will keep watch on this door while you recover and prepare. Roland, would you like to set up your devil's machine to cover it, as well?"
Apr 25, 2018 1:28 pm
"Aye friend, I can do that."

Roland sets the hackbutt to cover the door.

The group decides on waiting to regain their strength, besides, Heather will have probably told them that she only needs to wait about an hour to pray for her spells at noon... As the party discusses, you can all make a Perception check.

Veroth watches the darkness, his wings folded around him, to all the world looking as if with baleful eyes burning with fel intention.
