I just finished reading through the story so far, and I've read through the basic combat rules, but I will likely need some guidance through my first combat experience, but I'll be sure to ask questions as needed.

I just want to point out as it looks like we're waiting for Feridir to go first in combat, GaztheDm's profile page says he's been inactive for a month.

on that note let me try my hand...

iirc its a d20 roll and i need to get under my attack +4 cause small creature, and then i roll the d20 and get under their defense? does that sound right?
Nov 9, 2018 2:53 pm
I think you have to get under your attack -4 (not +4), making it harder to hit.

so the attk number takes the --4 so it would go from 12 to 8 and under to hit?

i was thinking just roll +4 to my dc 12 to hit instead of roll dc 12-4 either way idc just wanted to make sure i gots it right.

I guess I'm not sure, the way I read it was add -4 to your attack, but I'm completely new and may have it backwards. I'm just going to let someone who know more then me chime in.

haha, im super greeen also thats what i was trying to figure out. cause if its a -4 to your roll it makes it easier to hit i would think because ya gotta get under your attck DC
Nov 9, 2018 3:23 pm
I see what you mean. I was thinking -4 to your target number, not to your roll. So if you have to roll below 12 to hit, you now have to roll below 8. I guess I'm not sure. By the way, what does DC stand for?

Difficutly check its a D&D term that just makes sense to me instead of CBM Or whatever the acronym is for the different checks.

I see. Thanks.

I think we're basically saying the same thing, just from different perspectives, adding 4 to your roll, or subtracting 4 from your target number would basically affect the result the same, right?
Nov 9, 2018 3:42 pm
thats what im thinking. but there may be more modifiers that we dont know about that could also come into play.
Nov 9, 2018 3:54 pm
Yea, best wait for an experts direction.

Yes, a difficulty modifier modifies your CTN (Check Target Number), and not your roll.

So let's say you were climbing a wall with a +2 modifier and your Climb CTN co climb that wall was 12, well with that +2, it would climb to 14. And yes, attacking those tiny rats at -4 means your offensive CTNs (melee attacks, ranged attacks, and offensive spellcasting) are all reduced by 4.

cool, should i go ahead of first guy or should we wait for (s)he to respond?

also not that it matters right now, i believe i fount a discrepency with my init and fixed it in my sheet, Lightningn reflexes gives me a +2 to init. i have it all in a spreadsheet now so math isnt human error no more :D

If we don't hear from Gaz by then, you can act first and I'll NPC him until we can figure out what to do.
