I didn't see that the guy responded to the second part of Edwin's question. Either way, he will go through the motions of mining and will be seeking out a higher up member of the guild once they are done to report the issue.

You make your way deeper into the cave. The torches and lanterns become fewer and farther apart. The tunnels get narrow and shorter, until you can barely move through them without crouching. A bright light suddenly shines about 100' feet in front of you and you look up to see a wooden door with a small dwarf standing in front of it.
