• When did you first put on the mask? Why?
The summer after 8th grade. I was feeling the pressure of starting high school in the fall weighing down on me. I'm usually so Type A. I practically spent the entire school year studying and taking care of my little brother. I needed an outlet. Something outside of my family and my life. Thus, Cammy was born.
• Why do you keep a secret identity?
The reasons stated above. Cammy is my excuse to pretend to be someone else. Someone not like me, who's maybe a little bold, confident, daring even! And to do it for a greater cause is better than a lot of the other volunteer work I've done in the past! (Those were filled with kids just looking to bulk up their resumes anyway.)
• Who, outside of the team, knows about your dual identity?
I think Mist knows. One day, out of the blue, he walked up to me at school and started talking to me like he knew me, whereas most people pass me by without noticing me. I told him "Sorry, you must have confused me with someone else" and walked away. We've never talked about it or anything, but now every time he looks at me I feel like I have to show him somehow that Cammy and Talia are not the same and that maybe even if he thought we were, he was mistaken.
Our landlady Rabia knows. The first time I took the costume out for a spin, it was kind of a disaster. I ripped it in two places and I was limping home when I ran into her. I thought it was over for sure and she'd tell my uncle. But she understood and even patched up my costume for me. Now every so often I'll find a fruit and nut basket at our door with a note that says "For strength, energy, and good health". She always leaves it there after my uncle leaves for work, so she knows that only me and my little brother will get it. I guess she doesn't like my uncle much either.
• Who thinks the worst of your masked identity?
My uncle thinks only heroes that fly or teleport are worth anything, so to him Chameleon is nothing but a lame wannabe hero. He doesn't know she's me, so it's nothing personal. It's not like my uncle is a bad person or anything. He's just... he's had some health problems what with all the drinking. He forgets things sometimes. But he always makes sure to leave enough money in the change jar for when I have to buy groceries.
• Why do you care about the team?
They're the cool friends I never had in real life, and they think I'm cool too.
