Episode 2

The Seetan that has been standing silently draws back his hood, as the actions take a turn for the worse, to allow his sight to be unhindered. As the light reveals him, his face is calm and focused but his face doesn't hold your attention; what does is the ligature scars around his neck. In a blur of movement, he is on and engaging the head that once belonged to Koral, throwing an equal blur of attacks at it. As he finishes his onslaught you notice, sometime during the barrage, a "weapon" was drawn; a spoon with a sharped handle tip.
OOC:
Attack 1: 9 to hit, 6 bludgeoning
Attack 2: 17 to hit, 8 bludgeoning
Attack 3: 16 to hit, 9 piercing
Attack 4: 23 to hit, 8 piercing
Attack 5: 27 to hit, 1014* bludgeoning (houserule +mod); stunning strike: DC 15 con save.

DMJ says:
Taking a moment to notice the fineness of the day, Cedrio raises another glass to Ivor, "Not a bad life here, would you say Ivor? Or is this how it is every day with you rubbing elbows now with Jeresian nobility ?
"You sound like a fucking dotard, ready to retire to a life of luxury!" Ivor laughs. "I'm joking, my friend. It's a fine life, and I'm glad for you. I don't think I could ever stay put in one place though. And at any rate I'd kill myself if I had to see your ugly mug every damned day!" Ivor returns Cedrio's toast and drinks deep.

As tension mounts, Thorn sees that his translator is becoming more and more nervous and attempts to catch his eye, wanting to give the poor man a reassuring nod.

Koral's head springs onto the face of the unfortunate Gibon.

"Yshala!"

An oath of surprise from Thorn. He immediately leaps to the servant's aid as the Seetan leaps to attack the creature. He catches Gibon from behind and brings his right arm around, sliding his hand between the two and attempting to force the dead face off of the live one.
OOC:
Using a Shove attack against Koral. If successful, Thorn wants to drag Gibon out of the reach of the tentacles and make sure he's more or less okay.

Also, Hyp, daaaaamn, nice opening carnage!!

At the track, Yashub marks Dug-Nuna mentally, walking into the shades of nearby stalls and circling closer to his target like a shark on a hunt. He muses that it would be better to take the low-life alive, bringing in for interrogation, but admits that taking him in any fashion is the real goal. Strolling closer as nonchalantly as he can, Yashub readies his mind for the struggle.

The strange creature brings a flash of memory from the Borgh Riac to Kray's mind as he draws Serpent's Judgement, shield low in his left hand at the ready.

At the Track...

Sizhen takes note of the tracks of the mark. He is stepping heavy, walking in a direct line. Before he had been meandering around, but now perhaps he has identified a target, seen a signal. Sizhen suspects that the man is marching towards a direct action right now.

He sees the robed man marching up the grassy hill now. In an effort to keep pace and distance, Sizhen shifts and weaves through the last small grouping of people there at the base of the hill.

Still, the stalker is a fair stretch away. Sizhen sees that the distance is troubling if the man is indeed walking up to strike.

Sizhen must decide what to do. Break into a full run? Call out a warning? Watch and observe, in order to expose if the man is indeed an assassin?

---------------------------------

With little difficulty Yashub trails Dug-Nuna. The cutthroat has not made any indication that he has seen him. Now the Hechesi thug digs his sandals into the grass and picks up pace to make the steep climb.

Looking upward at the crest of the hill, Yashub recognizes the insignia sign out front of the luxury tent that seems to be the present destination. Now he sees Magistrate Eannatum, a director of freight and transport who manages in the Sar's name at Maritime Plaza. The Magistrate stands talking with a small crowd of robed men and their women just outside of the tent.

Yashub begins to realize that if The Stabber is about to strike, he cannot cover the distance to intercept him in time unless he breaks into a run.

At the Hechesi house...

Just as Gibon tumbles over backwards, the robed Seetan at the back door assaults the head horror with a series of lighting fast strikes.

Attack 1: Miss
All other Attacks: Hit
CON Save v. Stun Strike: Save successful

The assault is brutal and the monstrosity staggers, its tentacles swirling uncontrollably now.

Leaping to his translator and servant's aid, Thorn shoves at the injured and off-balance tower of wretched flesh.

Shove Comparison: DM ruling that comparison made at Disadvantage due to status after previous damage taken in initial round of getting physical bearings after sudden emergence.
Shove Attempt Successful

The head horror sails out the back door as Thorn heaves his full weight against it. Gibon scrambles and screams out in terror as Thorn pulls him clear of danger.

Rolling and flopping end over end, the gory mess of flesh, tentacles, and spiny fins crashes down on the back deck with a sound of both wet splatter and the knock of bone on the wood floor. It wrangles and lurches feebly to right itself, but with little strength.

Whether it could get up or not is soon irrelevant because Kray steps out the door without delay, bringing furious slashes and chops from the Serpent Judgment down into the writing mass. In seconds, the grotesque creature is reduced to a pile of hideous gore minced and splattered out on the deck.

All Attacks: Hit

Slowly, in silence, everyone moves outside. Drawn to look down in shock at the atrocity.

Rolls

Breaking out from the crowd at the hill base, still watching The Stabber, Sizhen notices another man stepping out in the open at the base of the grass hill.

Sizhen recognizes the movement of the second man in a fraction of a second. It is the man whom he has seen lurking near the Red Bastion of Midrad, the elusive observer whom Sizhen could never quite catch.

-----------------------------------------------

Yashub steps away from the last point of concealment and crosses the dirt track, stepping onto the base of the grassy hill. Over to his left there is a crowd of show attendees enjoying a wine and cheese station next to a harpist. From the crowd emerges a man that seems to be about to climb the hill as well, right in the direction of Dug-Nuna.

This second man is a foreigner, perhaps an Alijanian or a Kapek. Yashub recognizes him immediately, not from his exact features, but by his movement and familiar stance. It is the man whom he has seen lurking near the Red Bastion of Midrad, the elusive observer whom Yashub could never quite catch.

-----------------------------------------------

The Stabber crests the top of the hill.

Only a few long strides away now from the small group of wealthy revelers standing outside of the luxury tent.

At the track...

Ivor and Cedrio have been enjoying the morning and midday, drinking and eating the party provisions of Honorable Eannatum. Now they are standing at the front edge of the luxury tent at the top of the grass hill.

Over the last half hour or so, a throng of robed party women have gathered in the area. They have been quite enamored by Cedrio and his stories of the perils at the Circle of the Valiants. The Kortellan is quite the promoter it turns out. A couple of the women speak Yuoric and have been talking to Ivor. Clearly these posh women are impressed and excited by meeting an exotic Dannein, an experienced warrior of the north, and a true hulk of a man.

The Korvaran security guard Sergius has been cutting eyes in Ivor and Cedrio's direction all the while. Ivor sees him striding up out of the corner of his eye and turns to face him.

"Listen, mate!," the big legionnaire says strongly to Ivor in Yuoric, "You two prize ponies need to move your fucking display show down the hill with rest of the entertainers. You're creating a security risk here. Fucking move out and take these chirping hussies with you!"

As Thorn and Gibon begin to move outside, the fighter examines his translator's face. Are there any puncture wounds? Any signs that Gibon might benefit from the Seetan's help?

He puts a hand on Gibon's back and speaks softly.

"Peace, Gibon. The thing is down. Kray has taken care of it. You're safe."

Thorn checks Gibon for wounds and marks but finds none. It seems that the skinny servant is unscathed, but he is still struck dumb with terror. So far Gibon cannot talk, his eyes are darting around, his whole body quaking - like a wild animal overtaken by complete primal fear.

Sizhen let go of the crystal glass, freeing his hands for more practical tools.

The wheel of fate spins our threads together ever tighter Sizhen ponders. Just knowing that his shadow from the Red Bastion has also taken a keen interest in the Stabbers speaks volumes.

This particular Stabber is not Sizhen's real quarry; he is more interested in the greater threads connected to this thug, the real powers behind the Stabbers. As such, taking this particular pawn alive would be best, and he wasn't sure what his shadow's intentions were. At the same time, his shadow is just as interesting a target, perhaps more so, and a confrontation with this man might prematurely chop down the tree before it bore fruit. Not to mention saving a life can produce a valuable asset, especially a rich life with an exploitable sense of gratitude.

The crystalware shattered on the ground.

He broke into a full sprint on an intercept course with the Stabber, holding blades produced from within his leather jacket, with the intention of getting to the man before his shadow did. He shot his shadow a wry grin on the way, conveying a 'fancy meeting you here' kind of expression.

Like a well-oiled machine, the once hooded Seetan resumes a relaxed stance, his face never changing from serene. His ever watchful eye however, moves from the now deceased Koral to Gibon.

Ivor would like nothing better than to shut this prick Sergius up, but doesn't want to jeopardize Cedrio's good standing with the Magistrate Eannatum. The Dannein laughs and drains his winecup. "Since you asked so NICELY...come on, Cedrio. Ladies." he starts to herd the little group down the hill as requested.

Back at the ghetto house...

Kray gave a nod to the Seetan, whose fluid bladework had played a vital role in slaying the tentacles abomination. His eyes still on the corpse of the now dead creature, relaxed yet poised to strike if it somehow defied what appeared to be death, he spoke to all present.

"Someone explain what the fuck that is." Kray's gaze briefly moved from the Hechesi leader, then to Oram and finally the Seetan. As always, he trusted Thorn's eye to pick up details he occasionally missed. He addressed Thorn. "Mind taking a look at this... thing."

Thorn nods, then gestures with his head to the poor Gibon as he walks past Kray to the gory mess on the ground.

"We may need to find a new translator," he murmurs as he walks by.
OOC:
If Oram or any of the Seetans call out a warning as Thorn gets close, he immediately stops. If they don't, then he does the following (and the investigation roll applies to that).
He slowly approaches the dead creature that had been the head of Koral and carefully squats down beside it, peering at it intently but not touching it, appreciative of the chance to inspect it now that it isn't flinging itself wildly about. He wonders to himself its relationship to Koral; whether it is actually Koral transformed, or some sort of parasite inhabiting Koral.

"Perhaps." Kray looked toward Gibon, his demeanor expectant. As always, Kray expected the men in his employ to push through adversity.

His expression to Gibon was one of such expectation. Get up. He moved away from the abomination and extended a hand to the shaken Gibon.

Nice roll X. Perfect timing ha ha. You're going to pick up a disease and have some crazy shit pop out of your guts.

The Magistrate is a few steps away. The Stabber Dug-Nuna moves in for the strike.

Mechanics Translation: If you have Perception higher than Stealth result above (20), you can choose to take Action. If so, announce Action and Roll Initiative.
For Ivor, it has to be Passive Perception.
Yashub and Sizhen can take their Passive Perception or elect to take an Active Perception check.

Distance Points:
Sizhen burst into a full sprint moment ago. Currently he is at the front edge of the crowd that is moving downhill, the crowd through which Dug-Nuna the Stabber sought to move through as cover.
Sizhen distance to Dug-Nuna: 25' Difficult Terrain (hill plus crowd)

Ivor is actually in the small crowd that passes by the other and starts moving down hill. Ivor passes Dug-Nuna somewhere in the crowd. Distance: 15' Difficult Terrain

Yashub. OOC: did not see any shift from stealth based Movement in last post, but will assume that Stealth was dropped and normal movement was used.
Distance: 20' Normal Terrain followed by 25' Difficult Terrain

For the purpose of Ranged Attacks, Dug-Nuna is taking Advantage of the crowd enough to enjoy effects of Half Cover (+2 AC/DEX Saves)

OOC:
NPC Initiative below.
This becomes a good queue to promo House Rule (HR): Retro Initiative.
We roll 1d10 for that here.

Rolls

Dug-Nuna Initiative - (1d10+3)

(9) + 3 = 12
