OOC:
Sounds cool on the sneaky group delving further away from the party (the drinking and opium party, not the adventurer group). I THINK Trece is taking Bryn's invitation to follow?

But hey Ox, either way - I'm pretty sure I know what Bryn is going for, but send me some strategy and general plan of how he tries to find what he's looking for. The Garden Palace is a MASSIVE structure that stretches out and blends into other buildings. If you don't know where you are going, specific places may be hard to find, and there is even a chance to get lost in the place.

Obviously I'm not going to send out a map of the Garden Palace (you know I don't have one), and I know you may not have an exact plan, but talk me through some thoughts and verbalize some of what you'd like to see happen here. Bryn and Trece sort of "broke free" a bit, so now what?

Thorn moves with Kray, a hand on Ivor's elbow if need be, to help Ra u nak with the boxes.

Thorn and Kray move away, following Ra u nak and the two Bishtu workers. Ivor does follow if he is led, but he seems to remain in a daze and will not comply with picking up the box. Kray and Thorn start to see that something is wrong. Kray and Thorn pick up the box between them, and Thorn takes a hold of Ivor's arm and leads him to follow.

Ra u nak is talking to the Gilded Armsman who is the guard at the back of the Griffon Room. Ra u nak is talking to him, pointing to his workers and briefly to Kray, Thorn and Ivor, making some sort of explanation. The Armsman seems a little confused himself maybe. Soon he waves at Ra u nak, letting him pass and the rest of the group to follow.

The group of six walks down a hall and up some spiral stairs, carrying two large crates and a few basket-backpacks full of tea station equipment.

On the way out, Thorn looks back and sees the "invisible servants," clad in all black robes and wraps, moving out through the crowd, putting arms around people who are woozy or dazed. The silent and covered servants take people by the hands and arms, and lead them to chairs and couches. All the while the poets speak on and on, in their wondrous patterns.

Out of the corner of his eye, Thorn thinks he sees a cloaked servant who has skeletal bones for hands. Thorn stops and does a double take, almost pulling the box from Kray's hand on the opposite handle.

But when Thorn looks again more closely, he sees that the dark cloaked servant is not where he initially had thought. There are two servants near each other, one carrying an ivory opium container in his (or her) hand. The container is pale white and has long vertical ivory plates on it, one in line with another. Was that the image of a skeletal hand that Thorn thought he saw?

Thorn turns back and makes the corner, Ra u nak is calling them to move on.

The old Seetan tea maker leads everyone up a spiral staircase, down a hall, and into a parlor room. There are couches and chairs placed about the room in the fashion of a sitting and lounging area.

"I have been on my feet all day. Very tired," Ra u nak says, in Yuoric, as he sits on one of the reclining slant cushioned chairs. After rummaging through his bag to find a padded silk eye-cover, Ra u nak lies back and places the cover over his eyes.

"Very taxing. It is best to rest in these times. Hoohoo...Ha," he chuckles softly and settle his head back. "Rest the mind." He stills and definitely seems to be falling asleep. "The body is weak. The mind must withdraw. Ha...hoo." He whispers out and then silences.

The two Bishtu workers have not even been told, but they are already laying down on small rugs on the floor. They turn away like nothing is wrong and sleep.

Kray and Thorn feel heavy and sluggish themselves. What is going on here? Ivor is still in a daze, but he sits down on a couch and stares down at the floor between his feet, saying nothing.

No one else is in the room. There is one entrance from the hallway. The door is shut and a bolt is thrown over it from the inside.

"Fates be damned." Kray discarded the words as his eyes swept the room, a singular shake of his head further expressing his discontent with the turn of events. "Some strange shit going on. Have to wonder how much better off we are in here. Cornered if the wrong types come knocking." He looked at Ivor, assessing for a moment, then continued with an almost inaudible chuckle. "And does he need a wet nurse or..." Kray took out a spliff, twisting the end off "... or a smoke. I could use one."

Kray lit his spliff on the nearest available firefight, taking a deep drag. Savoring the Heshaban tobacco deep in his lungs, he exhaled after a few seconds passed. "Well, Aemlar," he paused for effect, allowing the levity of using Thorn's adopted pseudo name used between the two of them to settle. More and more it had become a standing joke between the two of them. "Mind seeing if there's another way out? Or you could join the grandfather and the rest of the babes for nap time." Another amused chuckle, followed by another drag on the spliff with a bloodshot gleam in his eyes.

Suddenly all business, Kray knelt beside Ivor, hitting the spliff hard. "Time to wake up, gladiator." With that, Kray pushed the burning cherry of his smoke into the back of Ivor's neck, just enough so as to leave a scar, twisting it as he continued.

"Wake the fuck up."

Thinking Thorn with his eagle eyes could make that search for a secret door. Worth a shot.

Bryn is looking for smoke, chimneys, and hearths in lower quarters. If I remember correctly, he has heard that it is within a hearth?

Thorn's eyes narrow briefly at the mention of his name.

Then he nods and walks around the room, looking for Kray's possible second exit, but also for anything that might look useful to them or purposefully hidden from prying eyes like his.

He also keeps an eye on the napping Ra u nak.

Investigation - (1d20+6)

Kray's mind starts calculating options, pondering the strangeness of their situation while simultaneously noting what appears to be an oddly unfocused Thorn.

Door's bolted from the inside. Weird shit happening in the party rooms. The tea man and his lackeys went straight from evacuating the poetry party to a slumber party. What the hell is going on?

Kray pulled the spliff off of Ivor's burning flesh to take a drag as his thoughts drifted to his time in the Borgh Riac. The decimated and dying village. The Hive, dead men turned into inhuman pawns. The deaths of Talius and Qiu on Old Island. Amphibious monstrosities in the depths of the Black Ziggurat, raping and impregnating the women of the Borgh. An ancient power struggle among gods older than time itself. The Dark Throne in the final chamber. Rutcranna's apparent ascendance to the status of a living deity. The slowing of time and space in what appeared to be some mystical connection between those he entered that dark, deep, nightmarish hell with. The bloody escape from the throne room and the Black Ziggurat to the light of day.

Surviving, despite the odds and the alien strangeness of it all. Sometimes he felt as if the Fates...

or something else

...had taken a particular interest in their path.

He missed Sorcha, Rutcranna's daughter whom he had adopted after their escape, who had been instrumental in their surviving the Black Ziggurat. He had, of course, concealed her identity under the name Lucretia Mercon in an effort to protect her from Nemes Zaituc. Since the brutal war in the north, the frozen hellscape that it was, he hadn't seen her. Often he dreamt of her, imagery of sunny meadows and better days that had yet to happen. May never happen.

Life had become surreal since he had left Jeresian land for the Borgh Riac. In rare moments of reflection he wondered if it was all a dream, but always knew the truth of it. Especially when he was putting metal to work on flesh and bone.

His mind snapped back to the present. Did Ra u nak have some wisdom he had yet to tap in to?

Should we just follow the old tea man's lead and... sleep?

OOC:
Players' Club,

I took a full stop break for the Easter weekend, will try to reorganize today, stealing time to game at work.

Quick Review (and tell me if I'm wrong or more needs to be clarified):

1) Sneaky Bryn and Trece are creeping through Garden Palace, heading downward, looking for a lower chamber with multiple chimneys.

2) Sizhen is on follow for Item 1 above, but we need to see how it unfolds on detection or no

3) Kray and Thorn are deciding what to do in a side parlor sitting room, with a zoned-out Ivor and napping Ra u nak and helpers.
OOC:
Ez, cool condensed review of events of Ep 1 and Interim 1 by Kray. Blast from the past for me, been so wrapped up in this current swirl on camera action/RP and off camera planning, haven't thought about that old scenario in a while. Kray is right, that was a lot of shit. Now more seems to be boiling up. No wonder Kray feels like Fates (or something else) have it out for him.

Ivor feels the burn stimulus and snaps out of it. Abruptly.

In full automated reaction Ivor knocks Kray's hand aside with such force that Kray spins back and has to catch his step before tilting over. As Kray hits a nearby table steadying himself, a vase tilts off and crashes into a thousand pieces on the floor.

Ivor rises to his full towering height in the blink of an eye. His face displays surprise and confusion, quickly mixing with anger and alertness.

Hypnotic effects on Ivor ended.

Ivor's last memory is of the poet speaking. The burn in his shoulder stings briefly, but fades away. He sees now that he is in a quiet sitting room, away from the crowd. Kray and Thorn are there, and the sleeping tea workers nearby.

Welcome back J, I hope you had a great Easter! I think Sizhen will neglect the stealth check. Better to approach Temba his Arms Wide rather than Shaka When the Walls Fell.

Soon after Bryn and Trece begin their joint travels to the lower levels of the Garden Palace, another trailer approaches. Alijanian Lord Sizhen Lao, to whom Bryn was introduced earlier this night by Nasi Talel, steps forward openly, walking down a stairwell that Bryn and Trece were about to pass.

It seems to all that more factions than one want to see what it is that Bryn is looking for.

OOC:
Trece saw Sizhen, and was likely introduced to him at least, in the Griffon Room when the whole crowd was together for quite a while. A few hours ago, everyone had a chance to get acquainted with their increasing cross references and commonality among contacts and events.

Up to you guys how much or how little they talked with one another personally. The most control over it may rest in Trece's hands. He seems to have had a wide option range on how to engage conversationally, from being integrated alongside of Palla Ba and Lok who were talking and exchanging actively with all sub-parties to the other extreme of hanging back with Ra u nak sort of playing the role of tea attendant, doing more observing (spying?) than engaging.

Both of these guys speak fluent Zutaran, "Old Empire", the desert language.

Bryn does not speak Zutaran, but speaks Heshbaan, which Trece and Sizhen speak at Intermediate level.
Apr 2, 2018 9:44 pm
Sizhen greets both in the repectful Heshbaan fashion, his hands and two daggers in plain view. After, he switches to Zurtaran.
