Episode 2

The bull trots over to Elam, brushing its side on Namtur as it passes, then stands there looking at the warrior with weary eyes. The bull snorts and scrapes a hoof on the ground and nods it's head in a great arc. It seems clear to all: the bull agrees with Elam's plan.

Kray acknowledged Elam."Let's keep it quiet." Once more, he surveyed the room, assessing the team's condition.

Let's put a stealth pair up front, keep the louder team members toward the rear. Yeah, the enemy knows we're in house but they don't need to know exactly where, and we need any advantage we can get. Carrying torches, the idea is focused on quiet.

Some combo of Kray, Bryn, Iasu and probably Elam in the recon pair would work. I remember Jabes built Iasu for recon, not to mention Iasu is healthy. Putting the doc first is usually bad business, but Iasu also knows the lay of the land, which is huge. I believe Iasu also has Alert. And is healthy.

This is what I'm thinking:

KI = Stealh 1 (S1)

EB = Stealth 2 (S2)
TNM = Heavy (H)

We move in three teams, separated by one turn of movement between each team. Iasu and Kray (S1) as recon, move ahead. Elam and Bryn (S2) catch up to S1 after S1 is in place. Then S1 begins to advance again as Thorn, Maeriks and Namtur (H) catch up to S2. Rinse and repeat.

I'm pretty sure you guys get what I'm going for here. S2 is essentially a stealth buffer between S1 and H, to optimize our stealth efforts.

Kray can carry the torch for S1. Someone in H should probably be as well. Having Bryn in S2 also gives us the option to pull him up to the front if we can coordinate an Iasu-Bryn sneak attack special. If we do meet the enemy, I'd love to ambush their asses.

Vigilance for traps should be high, but I think Elam and Iasu know the ground so we should be good (J, is this a poor assumption?).

The above detail could be more than needed, but I sure as hell don't mind in an effort to keep us from being dead.

At the armory, injured folks may want to consider ranged combat options, if there are any.

OOC:
I think I get what you are saying.

Plus I looking back I can see that I screwed up a little in the way I formed the question.

Elam is definitely leading the way, holding a lantern in one hand. He would have Iasu right there with him to send arrows down range at the drop of a hat. He definitely feels the same: that Iasu is quick to react, highly alert, and stealthy.

From there back is more of what I was wondering about I guess. I think I can blend in what you wrote above to picture it from there.

and...

RESULT:
it's all for naught anyway. No encounter.

OOC:
I want to and will write descriptive and narrative, but struggling for time now. In interest of moving on with numbers and some of the lingering questions though, will Blue Text dump some rulings on mechanics.

Best I can do now. Will clarify later and update story.

Short Rest.
Includes water resource for the bull

Rulings for PCs who have experienced ZHPS with Death Marks (Maeriks, Thorn):
CAN increase Max HP and Current HP by amount gained with Level 8 advancement.
CANNOT role HD for recovery of Current HP.
CANNOT gain HP for Healer or Poultice medical treatment
Poisoned Condition on Maeriks is ended.
1 Level of Exhaustion continues for Maeriks.
If Thorn receives Medical Treatment (attention from Iasu in form of Healer Feat effort or Poultice), he can recover from 3 Levels of Exhaustion to 2 Levels of Exhaustion.

Notes/Thoughts on Medical Treatment:
If Iasu is administering Med Treatment the whole time, we have to incorporate the timing of it. I'll need to see a list of what Jabes wants Iasu to accomplish. Also need to track med supply levels. I know in real life a field medic's med bag can get blown out and exhausted with about two major trauma patients. This location has some cloth and towels that can be used for bandaging, but I'd like to hear if there is any tracking on healer kit resources and how they are expended. Also, if Iasu needs a Short Rest, he has to take one after the total med treatment plan.

Others:
CB, you are probably already on this, but I need to start thinking over the timing restrictions and any other effects on that accelerated Wildshape transformation. I think there is info on that, but can't remember details.
OOC:
So think on that.

Get numbers updated where you can.

Assemble some response about Med Treatment goals so that we can pin down material and time costs.

Consolidate any further questions.

I'll write story descriptive tonight late. Until then, the specifics on the locale and circumstance will have to wait, but more open-ended narrative posts are welcome.

Makes sense for Elam and Iasu to lead the way narratively. Kray just likes being on point.

X, perhaps CB as well, mayne there will be some ranged weapons you guys can put to use.
Feb 20, 2019 6:05 pm
Not sure how long this bull will last, nor do I know what will happen when the wildshape HP drops to zero. I suspect things will not work like we are used to them working in normal D&D Druids. I think our best use of bull maeriks at this point will be to trample and shove - reposition enemies where we need them or just shove them prone and keep Maeriks from being a primary target. If he does revert, anything that Maeriks can throw would be the best way for him to contribute away from the front line. That or he can stand back behind others with his glaive's 10 ft reach. He has polearm master, so there is some benefit there to stand adjacent to glaive-maeriks.

Are we going forward, down the hallway Thorn & Bryn went down? If so, Thorn's hand axes might be lying around down there...

Yeah, and don't forget to grab Maerik's stuff. Bull Maeriks isn't going to remind anyone to do that. He needs you all to look out for him in that way.

@DMJ Any damage to those things from lingering slime?

We'll definitely grab Maeriks' gear, if it's not slime food.

Elam gets Iasu to help him move the bodies of the twins over to the northwest corner of the room. They lay them beside one another.

"We will come back for them when we are through with this madness," Elam says as he gets up to depart.
Feb 21, 2019 12:13 pm
Namtur looks on at the beginning when Elam and Iasu move the bodies of Akkeen and Adar-Malic, but quickly turns his attention to other things.

He moves back to the lower end of the room to check his armor. Using a towel to wipe the remnants of acid from the mail and leather, he puts his cuirass back on.

His notorious helm though is apparently lost to the deadly gel pool.

Everyone gathers what they can, takes one last survey of the body-strewn blood-covered room. They turn away from the carnage and move through the north hall, lanterns and torches carried to light the way.

The carcass of the Howler and small bits of hound flesh are still smoldering on the floor.

The gel mass is slowly sliding back through the south entrance opposite. Dissolving flesh, bone, blood swirl slowly within it, along with various metal objects that can be seen still intact.
OOC:
Maerik's stuff was only in there for a flash. All weapons and metal gear are fine. The backpack is still operational, but it might be weakened and might be suspect for trying to carry a heavy load. The hide armor is probably reusable too, though it would show some signs of damage - probably not a long-term keeper, but good enough for another fight or two.

The group moves through the north hall and turns left. On the right side of this hallway are cell doors, one of which is open. A quick glance and a whiff of the familiar smell - it is clear that these rooms are kennels for the hounds.

There are 8 doors in a row. They all have barred windows at head level. Six of the kennels are empty with the door closed, the one is open but also empty. The last door is closed but 3 dead hounds can be seen within. They lie dead, but are not burning.

Shining a lantern in to peer at the dead hounds, Elam nods understandingly.

Elam moves on and stops to look down at the body of Abros. The huge muscular devil, his body partially covered with coarse leathery hide, thick horns on his head, but also on his arms and shoulders - he looks only partially human, and also shockingly powerful. Still he lies dead from wounds.

Elam stops and looks down for long moments, in silence. Finally he looks up at Iasu. His face is stern, held stoic to stave off emotion. In a quiet voice, he speaks to his brother in their common language.

He stops speaking and turns away sharply, walking away with a strong step. His face a mix of sadness, anger, determination.

He leads the way onward down the hall, holding a lantern.

Namtur looks down at Abros for quite a long moment, lost in thought. He says nothing though and walks away without comment, falling into line with the group following Elam.

Using the light from the torches to search, Thorn is able to find both of his axes that he had previously thrown at Abros.

Bryn is not able to find his thrown dagger.

note="jabes.plays.rpg"]I am taking some liberty here, but it seems that the first thing Iasu would do is check Abros for life signs, inspect wounds, etc.

When he does, he quickly finds that Abros is indeed dead. No breathing. No pulse. Several wounds.

His face is bruised. Several very small stab wounds in the arms and chest. Some sort of chopping cut in the shoulder. Quite brutal all, but none are life threatening.

Iasu can see that death could have come from any of three larger stab wounds.
One in the back corner of the skull, behind the right ear, speared the brain.
One in the back, under the rib cage, right of the spine - straight through to the liver.
One on the left side, around the corner to the back. Blade slid right between two ribs, certainly split the left lung wide open for a quick flood.
Abros's torso is tight. No percussion from lungs on the tap. Blood pouring out of his mouth. Definite hemothorax.

But then the group is moving away and Iasu has to move on to keep up.[/note]

Alright. Though I'm sure I'm testing everyone's patience, I had to get through those details.

Will move to the Short Rest station next, but likely not free again until late night.

Thorn picks up his axe from nearby.

"It was my throw that did him in, to be sure," he says to the medic. When Iasu glances up at him, Thorn grins and continues to limp on down the hall.

"To be sure." Bryn echos as he strolls up next to Thorn.

Also continuing down the hall, Bryn looks into the cages to see the dead dogs "This could of been worse," looking at Thorns battered body "Much worse." Turning from the cages and staring at the torches being held, Bryn rubs his eyes seemingly annoyed "Can we put out one of those torches for fucks sake!"
