Xorthan says:
...

Thorn limps alongside the huge naked Dannein. He manages a small smile at the big man.

"I'm surprised to see you here. Yshala must love you: how did you manage to stay alive?"

...
Maeriks tries to smile at Thorn, but he is breathing heavily. Sweating. He has cuts all over him. Several are bleeding through to stain the dirty pullover shirt that he is wearing.

After thinking it over for a time, Maeriks speaks back to Thorn, in Dannein. Thorn can tell Maeriks is too tired to speak in the only other language that he partially knows, Yuoric.

"Bryn said he was going to meet us somewhere else later. Do you know where he will meet us?"

After hiking it out for a while longer, Maeriks asks.

"Do you think we can get out of this building soon? I hope we can. Have you ever thought this: that every time we get in a big rock building, there are so many monsters?"

Thorn smiles again.

"Maybe we should avoid rock buildings. Stick to open fields. Best places for warriors and bulls."

OOC:
Ryhim's stealth is +10. The plan looks all good on my end. All Ryhim clothes need is a good wash, he otherwise looks like a simple nomad. Loose desert attire, bare feet, longbow for hunting game strung across his back. The only off putting thing, which are also the hardest to hide depending on time of day, are his completely black eyes. I suppose he can pretend to be blind. Between Blind Ryhim, Maeriks, and S-f-N Sizhen, Kray can pretend to be a handicap teacher.

Edit: And Thorn is basically a cripple right now.
Good deal, Hyp. We've got our our recon pair. And, heads up, bows our illegal in the city. We had to give ours up on the way in to town.
May 1, 2019 3:11 pm
Kray's mercenary eyes widen at the treasure trove, then a consideration enters his thoughts."Keep it light, gentlemen. We've got distance to cover, and time is of the essence."

So, although there is a ton of loot, it's a lot of weight, not to mention our best haulers Thorn and Maeriks are banged up as hell.

I think we dump the loot into separate piles on the floor and sort the precious light weight (gems, trinkets, etc) from the heavy coin. A nice drag dump by all would also scatter the items better for an easier look, shallow trails of loot rather than piles. With a focus on packing light for a quality exfil from Gelshemish, we take the light and avoid greed being our downfall. We don't need to be moving like pack mules.

Also, if you guys like this route for the loot, obviously we keep eyes wide for particularly sweet looking loot. And we don't scrape up every gem etc. I love the idea of taking the rich stuff, but we don't really have time to be accountants.

Iasu wonders if he's dreaming. He must be dreaming. Either that, or the cursed palace, Elam, the Irons, all of THAT was a dream!

Talk-through on Treasure Re-Org
OOC:
I feel like I get the gist of what Ez is saying about the "cut weight / max value" program on the bags of treasure. He also mentions a high concern for time and a willingness to accept what is possible to prioritize speed in the effort as well.

So cutting to the chase...

Current Bag Characteristics
Packed as they are, these treasure deposits are near-perfect mix of gold, gems, jewelry, and trinkets. Oversized gold coins are by far the highest distribution of material within. Gold accounts for the majority of the bulk and volume. The bags are wrapped and strapped secure and tight, buckled down extensively, evenly distributed, all loose space accounted for, and padded to minimize rattle/shake/sound/shift. Pretty squared-away in prepper form. They weigh somewhere about 85-90 lbs each. Value of those is unknown and we won't get into speculating here.

Idea of Shifting Distribution of Contents - Max wealth in smallest space
Breaking these open, pouring them out, and then selectively targeting higher value items for repacking - that's the generally idea. Definitely possible. I think the main spend here is time. Picking small loose gems and trinkets out of the pile of majority coins is a bit tedious. If you do it, you could get a chunk of wealth consolidated into a smaller area, but if you leave gold behind, you are really leaving behind a big, big distribution of the value here. It's not like you turn 8 bags of mix goods down to 4 feather-light bags of strictly premiere high-wealth portable concentrate. It's more like you burn a LOT of time turning 8 bags of mixed goods down to 1 badass megawealth backpack, but you forgo 7 extremely valuable bags of gold that you would pretty much need to pack back up almost like they were if you want to get some of that value back in the carry plan.
I think of this idea as the MAX wealth in the SMALLEST space. It's great on consolidation, but costly on time and leaves the consideration of leaving behind a lot of dough.
I don't want to get exact on time, but I think this is more like a 12+ minute project.

Just get the weight down - Fast
As an alternate, to me it seems like the fastest way to keep wealth and at the same time watch weight would just be to dump out some of the weight from each bag. Or just leave some of the bags out entirely.
Does 90lbs seem too heavy for the wounded guys? Then dump some out until it's about 40lbs and move out. If you see that you poured out a diamond necklace or a bejeweled crown, toss that shit back in real quick. Plus, I'm still remembering that Thorn and Maeriks, though tired, are still ultra weightlifters. 20 and 19 STR. Some of the strongest men on earth.
Can the two non-Exhausted guys take on 90 well-packed pounds and fucking go? I think so. Especially if you say we dump tents, blankets, torches, and other survival rucksack stuff.
Sure this leaves some concentrated wealth behind, but the time savings would have to be considerable. I think you could dump out partial weight in a bag or 2 or 3, restrap it, and move out in less than 1 minute.

I have to mention this because I am trying to track time in the background. It won't be exact, and I'm not trying to add to the meta temptation already in the air, but I don't think it's exposing a secret if I say that 15-minute increments are certainly influencers on circumstance at this point.

Escape Route
OOC:
Also going to cut to the chase on escape route, to get this show on the road.

For map references on locations discussed below, go here.
Thorn and Kray compare ideas for an escape route. Both of these guys have Observant Feat, and they have announced that they have been considering possibilities since the Exfil from The Pit Chamber began.

This is their idea:

The elevator goes up to a room on the ground floor that is hard sealed off with bands, boards, and caged doors everywhere.
(Ground Floor, Room 17).
From that room, there is a ladder going up, through a cut in the ceiling, to the room above it.

When you get up the ladder, there was a wooden covering on the north facing window. That seems to be a descent candidate for breaking through with a crowbar, axe, etc.
(Upper Level First Floor, Room 16)

As an alternate, if the above doesn't work (is too loud, turns out to be too long of an investment, etc.) there is an actual steel cage type door that seems to be locked on the room immediately above. The keys that Kray have might work on that. To get up there, it is a slide fireman pole that leads through a hole in the ceiling of the 2nd floor room (UL, FF, R16). The door leading out the cage above would seem to lead to some sort of exterior balcony or roof landing.
(Upper Level Second Floor, Room 10 to Balcony Space 11)

So this route includes:
Step 1: Elevator
Step 2: Ladder Climb. (bag rope raise)
IF possible, crowbar/axe weaker barrier and out from 2nd story window.

IF not possible, ...
Step 3: Pole Climb. (bag rope raise)
Hopeful use of key to open door to exterior and out from 3rd story balcony.

So the ropes seem to be necessary equipment. Maybe some anchor points or hangers would be good.
Crowbar, axe might be support equipment.

Sure, I'm over-detailing this probably. I just want us to visualize what is going on. We're not to the point yet where we're just like "Alright. You bounce up out of this dungeon. 'Peace, Palace!' You're in the city. You're blending in, y'all."
May 1, 2019 9:23 pm
Ryhim gives a sideways glance at the wealth before returning his gaze back to the room. "Ryhim lives and is about to be free of this place, that is wealth enough for me."
OOC:
Sounded good, time sink kills it though I think. Maeriks and Thorn already have to move slowly, both for noise reasons and exhaustion, but 90 pounds wouldn't do much to someone with 20 and 19 strength (their con is probably pretty off the chains too).
Sizhen can be a buffer between the slows behind and the silent scouts up front. Don't know his strength but, if possible, he could carry two (one if not) to keep his pace slow).
Kray and Ryhim can each grab a bag dumping out until it is a comfortable weight to still move swiftly. That seems like the best option.

Edit: Also, with the wealth we get, dumping the tents and whatnot is negligible.

HEADQUARTERS TEAM

Here's what we do, to keep the ball rolling...

Think it over to see what weight limit you want for everyone's baggage and carry.

General feelings from me (and I have some experience on this. Ha!):

On heavy carry, we're talking about MARCHING out. Not sprinting.

90 lbs.: It's tough, but you can do it.
65 lbs.: You're pretty good. It's a ruck march, but you're moving out. Sweating.
40 lbs.: You've got a load, but you feel pretty fluid. If you need to do a lengthy sprint boost now and again, you can handle it.

I kind of think this goes for everyone. Thorn and Maeriks have Exhaustion, but they are stronger. It evens out.

Weight affects speed/mobility, but also wealth.
Speed/mobility influences rolls and system of escape, to some degree.
Wealth influences circumstance in Interim 2 and Ep 3.
Get it?! Ha!

Send in these rolls. Elect someone from the group to send each. It doesn't have to all be from the same person of course:
Required Action: Ability Checks

1) STR Athletics
2) INT Investigation
3) DEX Stealth
4) WIS Insight

Sizhen is available. I'm going to say this, off the cuff: His real offering is a +10 to INT Investigation, at Advantage.
But there is a 1 in 10 chance that he totally flakes out and gets a -10 to the roll from his weirdo mental condition.

He also has a +8 Insight. Still the risk of the total flake out 10%, after the roll.

Maeriks has a +7 Insight, but it is at Disadvantage b/c his Exhaustion.

Let me know if you need any of these NPC rolls. Players' Club can cover all the rolls on their own if you want.

I'm sending in a Random Encounter roll. Coming in Old School. 1st Edition Module mode.

1d6.
1 is bad.
2 is a little scary, but you can mitigate with some adjustment.
3-6, you're good.

Na'ahma is in the emotional moment. She looks on at Iasu as if he was a treasure once lost but now found. She has tears of joy and then an ongoing look of endearment as she speaks with him.

"Perhaps there will be time to talk about the past," she says, "but now I want us to cherish that we are together in this moment. You are safe! YOU survived. You were hurt, but now you are healed. Here, take some wine. Water. Whatever you will. Perhaps you are hungry. Hod, bring Simush something to treat himself."

She turns back and motions. The hefty man standing in the back gets to task, bringing up a tray of wine, cheese, breads, water, fruits. Iasu does realize now how thirsty he is.

"Leave it there, Hod," Na'ahma directs. "and get that box of scraps out. Take your tools with you, you bear! This place has become a rubbish heap."

There is a sharpness in her voice, and her eyes are a bit wide. The man jumps to it. Iasu can feel the edge of stress in the air. He notices as the man Hod carries out a box that is full of short lengths of iron bands - the filed off remnants of what once must have been the Iron Snakes of Hinnon that bound Iasu's legs - unmistakable.

Iasu looks over at the other woman. She holds gaze with him, a rather cold stare though her eyes are beautiful. She keeps one of her hands out of sight, behind her hip. This one is alert, and difficult to read.

Na'ahma brings the focus back with another appeal, in her captivating voice. "Most of all, my son, we must talk about your future. Our future. Together."

Her expression is like a font. Her eyes are magnets. Her voice - music.

Cursed Headquarters Team

1. Give final decision on treasure load carry.
Is the team going for the high-concentrate dump-out, down to one single bag of picked gems, jewels? The fast dump-out per bag to a target weight for each guy? Who has what?

2. Identify or plan other supplies taken, supplies dropped, and/or garb change.
Download "camping gear" to leave room for more ca$h weight? Ditching armor or grabbing new clothes to change out of the bloody mercenary look? Keeping that high visibility illegal bow and arrows? Some of this might be a last moment dump/change later, after you leave the Palace or leave the abandoned section of Old City, but at least be thinking about it.

3. Send in Ability Checks.
From whomever you choose on each. See above for more detail on NPC options if desired. Here’s a restate of what is needed:
1) STR Athletics
2) INT Investigation
3) DEX Stealth
4) WIS Insight

Going a step further right now, exposing DCs:
Athletics DC 11
Investigation DC 13
Stealth DC determined by roll result below (Dang. Dice are still gunning.)
Insight DC 12

The Random Encounter:
I was just throwing that on the board for an extra level of method transparency here near the end, since we have EVERYTHING out in the open (like split screen reveals on separated party members). You can see the result was undesirable, but don't wait on that entry from me. It will be woven in to the mix after I get input from you on the above topics.

2. Confront or ignore confusion. Weave through tension and inappropriateness. Fight or embrace innuendo.

3. Decide level of participation in family reunion planning.
OOC:
Just kidding.
But...Ha!, Jabes.
Which was more of a stress: Devotion of the Small Irons or THIS?

Fuck the Fates is right, Hyp. Damn, J...

Bad... hilarious. Like a bad movie. Almost expected at this point with how Cursed Palace went down, but we're not dead so a good ass start to exfil.

For the loot, I say we have everyone load to their own comfort. Gives the option of PC's dumping their bags as needed, depending on circumstances, withoutbpotentiallynlosing all rich stuff.

Kray is already traveling light on his personal gear. No changes needed there.

I think the following PC's handle these checks:

Athletics: Thorn has Athletics prof and 20 STR
Investigation: Sizhen +10
Stealth: Ryhim +10
Insight: Sizhen +10

Changing outfits when possible seems a good option. And carrying super light gear that may be useful. For the Palace escape, Kray has hammer and crowbar tinderbox, real light satchel type stuff. Thorn has rope. Camping gear seems unnecessary, we can rough it for a night if needed but I'm hoping Sizhen can hook up the boat ride asap.

I thought I wrote something but I guess I didn't hit post or imagined it. It wasn't too far off what you put, Ez.

I'm probably going to take the 40 pound option, if that option come up, otherwise I'll stick with my former choice of nothing. Ryhim is also traveling extremely light; courtesy of being a prisoner.[

My roll suggestions weren't too different either, I'll add the difference, for more choices. Ryhim has an investigation of +6. +10 with advantage? No, but there isn't a chance that Ryhim's brain will fritz out and make it -10. Something for consideration; everything else looks solid.

Definitely making the bow a last moment change, will cross that bridge when we get there. Would washing be an option or are there nomadic clothes available?

Also, would Kray be able to help Ryhim with the stealth check? They are both high stealthers and are the spear point of the marching order, makes sense one might be able to help the other.

Also, also, Iasu piercing Na'ahma's Pit with his Small Iron has leaked to the main thread that means it's cannon. Sorry, Jabes, but you have to go through with it now; can't have you ruining or altering the timeline

OOC:
I get it. Take what load you can, for as far as you can, but always try to keep the best loot in the bag in the final escape.

Yes, the Random Encounter roll is rough luck, but also fitting I suppose. At this point, as strange and callous as it may sound, I think it only adds to the legitimacy of this LEGENDARY HEIST.

And on that, I'd like to expand. Ha!
Have been thinking about how this raid on the Adriyalet House has gone. As Ez says, there were choices that could have gone differently, other avenues that in hindsight would have been more optimized - plenty of "What if's...?" to speculate about that might have generated a better moment right now, here at the Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) EXFIL.

BUT...no guarantee other routes would have unfolded perfectly either. This place was built to be confusing as fuck, both in it's physical structure and high-risk priority payoff sites AND in it's complexity of dealing with NPCs who HAD to be dealt with to have any options for success.

I read back over the Honor Among Thieves entry on Codes of Honor and enjoyed thinking about it in the circumstance that your characters are in now. These characters may not adhere to this Code as a lifestyle, but at this moment in the DT community and world, they are on the brink of pulling off one of the most legendary thieving raids of a generation, at least regionally to include multiple cultures. It was super secret, but seems inevitable that it will go super-public very soon - whether it is a success or not. And in large chunks of these cultures, where master thievery is like a prestigious profession and successful raiders are like rock stars, ....despite all of the hardship, probably BECAUSE OF IT in fact ... your characters are taking a shot at becoming CELEBRITIES!!! Survival is the baseline goal of course, but being a FAMOUS ADVENTURER in the DT setting would be a really dope stretch goal. Right now, that's DEFINITELY in play.

Thieves' Code: "Trust your instincts."
Thieves' Code: "Be bold."
Thieves' Code: "Share adventure, and spoils, with a worthy companion."
Thieves' Code: "Never give aid or information to the city guard or militia about fellow thieves, even if it costs your life or freedom."

These characters have either already lived up to these ideals or are imminently facing the chance to fulfill them at the highest stakes.

So I love the idea that after all of the frustration and heavy cost, here you are when it all shakes out: having a shot to carry out with heavy bags of tycoon-level wealth, raided from a REMNANT site of an ANCIENT, mysterious, decadent, dark culture.

SO KEEP IN MIND: the amount of loot you get out with WILL be incorporated in to Interim 2 and Episode 3. This includes influence on the lucrative or the conservative final form of DM Fiat Awards of Interim 2 that I think should be pretty fun for those who get there.

No matter what happens in these last down-ramp encounters, checks, entries, to me this is shaping out to be a near-perfect Dark Thrones ending to an extraordinarily long and grueling Episode.

I admit I wonder what Jabes is thinking in all of this. Iasu is pretty quiet so far.
He might be like "ENOUGH, fellas. This is fucking weird and NOT THAT FUNNY."

Don't worry, Jabes. For the record as you have seen, Na'ahma was a little strong on the intro affection, but hasn't actually offered up the snatch in the canonical writing (such inferences in non-canonical entries will always remain uninhibited however, and as Hyp suggests, those may gradually come to wield unmatched power).
Iasu hasn't yet heard Mommy Dearest's intent on the Next Phase of Cambion integration into upcoming city planning efforts.

On this set of Skill Checks, and in the Skills Challenge Machine that will follow (Spoiler right there), the HELP Action for Advantage on Checks will not be allowed.

It is assumed that the whole team is doing everything they can to make all of these things happen, and following the instructions of whoever is in the lead on each focus skill. Cooperation doesn't really generate a boost on performance for the one guy as much as it the success of one guy who has an opportunity is projected out to the whole team.

In some moment-focused or action-type scenes, the Skill Check Help option is there, but these types of checks are something more generalized and narrative forming, so they'll be required to stand on their own: one roll by one guy.
