I think we hold at the doorway. The plan is for the rest of the team to join us up here so I'd hate to shut them off to deal with the bug room.

Maeriks has one charmed. I think we hold.and wait for the team, then move through that room without bloodletting if possible.

Short rest after that to get the poison effects off us.
May 31, 2018 1:33 pm
J, just for clarification, there's two large bugs in the upper room, correct? What are they doing and which one is charmed?
May 31, 2018 3:56 pm
OOC:
S3 hit me for 3 damage. If it is attached, I won't risk rolling a nat 1 and breaking the daggers, so I'll sheath them instead to prepare for next round. Readied help action still in place.

As the giant insect flies out of Thorn's reach, two of the bat-like creatures attach themselves to his torso. Bryn and Sizhen move to the north door, and he moves with them, slashing at the annoying beasts as he moves.
OOC:
S5 and S6 both successfully attached to Thorn for 5 and 7 points of piercing, respectively. Thorn is using both attacks to hopefully kill them on his way over to Bryn and Sizhen.

DMJ says:
Review of input needs:
*Thorn Action
*Upstairs Team's overall combined move out the door details. Close door? Hold Door closed? Continue Movement? Stand and provoke a fight at the doorway threshold?
*Clarification on Stirge Attack Hits if any (Ox is already in. I incorporated NPC Maeriks'.) Think it over if anyone wants to incorporate stirge-removal into action set. If there is a stirge hit in one round and you do nothing to address it, that is auto-damage on the stirge Turn forthcoming on the next round.

Stuff I have to send after input:
*Bad guy set inputs (stirge swarm, crawler, robed figures, upstairs monsters)
*Update on Kray's transition Actions, coordinated with upstairs action
OOC:
Trying to get organized by this. All of your guys' stuff is in now - thanks.
Will follow up in next posts. It will come through in pieces.

Upper Room

Thorn slides his heavy blade smoothly across the back of the bat stuck to his left side. The foul creature writhes and squeals as it is cut in half.

The other bat is at an awkward angle though, wedged under Thorns arm and on his shoulder, piercing in at the gap in his armor at the armpit. He tries to cut it away, but cannot connect.

Attack 1 Miss. S5 remains attached.
Attack 2 Hit. S6 slain.

Thorn winces as the bat quickly begins to drain fluid out from the site. The barbed snout buried in Thorn's flesh stings as it sucks in a draw of blood.

OOC:
Note on Sizhen and Bryn Action.
The way I understand, Bryn and Sizhen moved to the door and then both sort of staged up with some Ready Actions. For Bryn it was to cover a withdrawal with an Attack that would trigger if any opponent approached. For Sizhen, he gave Help aid to give Bryn a lift on an Attack.

As you will see next, there was no approach by the big bad guys (Big Bug, Big Bat), but the little stirges are still around harassing. As they come in, it seems like the Attacks could apply to them, even though I feel like you were envisioning more from it.
Better than nothing though, so at least it is not a total loss of the round.

I didn't hear instructions that you guys were moving further out, closing the door or anything, so I'm going with the picture that you are still there right at the door. Map will be coming up a bit later.

Bryn and Sizhen pause for a moment in anticipation of the giant bat or the devil bug pursuit, but the two large creatures do not advance towards the group of men in battle stance.

Bryn splits one of the small bats in mid air, cutting it with his kukri as it flutters at him.

Readied Attack by Bryn applied to S1

Seeing that there is a spare moment since the greater monsters are not approaching, Sizhen grips the bat that clamped onto him and tears the beast away.

S3 detached from Sizhen
OOC:
Len, yes I'm taking some liberty here. You didn't state the removal, but if you don't get that tick off, it sucks out some auto-HP-loss in one more split second. In the flow of things, I know we are aiming for mechanics (Ready for Help Action with trigger that didn't happen, double dagger stow to avoid risk of breakage), but it seems realistic to me that Sizhen could have stole one last spare moment to knock S3 off of him since he wasn't able to land the blows he wanted to elsewhere. If you disagree and want the auto damage this round, say the word and you got it.

Kray's Entry to Upper Chamber
OOC:

Ez, I want to build off of a mix of your early send of Attacks here.
Plus Acrobatics check here.
And then possibly your addition here.
I say possibly because I think I should really let you see the development of it all put together and give Kray to see the circumstance he landed in, which is just moments after this here.
Barely clinging to the rope for a moment after being covered in a flood of bats, Kray resets his grip and tries to regain his composure. Now the rope is swinging from all of the turmoil. Kray uses that to his advantage. With a few heaves he shifts his weight and then lets his momentum carry up and over as much as it will. At the end of the swing he kicks his leg up and hooks it over the lip of the ceiling opening, gaining traction on the floor above.

Without cease of movement, Kray spins and rolls his hips and torso. His upper body is pulled in as his lower body grips the floor and turns. He rolls in onto the floor of the upper room.

It is difficult to get his bearings and see all of the features of the room, but there is a torchlight to the north so he has some visibility. Several of the bats are stuck to him, their sharp snouts and claws breaking into his skin and muscle.

In all of the noise of the wings and chirping bats that he just emerged from, he did not hear it at first, but suddenly a droning buzz fills his ears. A loud rolling roaring hum.

Kray jumps to his feet almost immediately and draws his sword.

Just then passing above him in the air, a giant insectoid buzzes through the air!
OOC:
OK, Ez. Decision time. And I think an important one.
When I look back at your Attack scores, I see that they are all good. Definitely a good set to land some hits, including a DISADVANTAGE CRITICAL on an unarmed strike (though unarmed strike isn't 1d4 as rolled, it IS a Critical as far as I can tell).
So...that means that you can chop/chop/tear off all 3 stirges, and thereby avoid the upcoming blood drain...
Or... you can throw all those Attack rolls at Big Buzzy Bug that is coughing out required Actions for upstairs party member CON saving throws and generally being pretty scary like a Flying Monster Boss.
Pros and Cons both ways I think. Not my decision though, it's yours, but it's only fair to make the choice now that we see all of the circumstance as it came together.
Let us know what it is going to be.

OOC:

In upper chamber, there is 1 mega demon bug and 1 giant bat.

Maeriks has the bat charmed for him, and so far it hasn't attacked anyone else.

The bug is droning around generating a sound from its wings that seems to be on the brink of causing a strange effect.

See descriptions above on both.

The clawed bats descend into the large chamber like a dark cloud of doom. They swirl and sling around the room.
