Lower Level, North of Cage Door

Seeing Trece stalk towards him, the thin goat man scrambles to his feet, his eyes wide with fear. His bow and several arrows rattle to the ground as he loses his footing in his haste.

Once he is up, he is running. He darts through the east archway and disappears into the dark room beyond.

Disengage. Dash.

Trece hears the sound of his hooved feet clicking on the stone floor. The goatman is quite fast; he is gone in brief seconds.

Behind him Trece hears a whirring noise, like wind mixed with chirps and flapping. He can see fairly well. An oil lamp sits on a small shelf, apparently right where it was left by Eumash or the goat man.

Trece hears Ivor yell out his name, and then, "Time to go!"

Trece is a few steps away from the furthest reach of the gas vapor, and a few steps further still from the cage gate. He can see that the lower gate door is still open.

From the light of the torch that is on one of the statues in the cage room, Trece can see the swirl of bats flying all about. Collectively they look like a fluttering cloud above the pale smoke that sits lower.

Trece sees one bat then another cling onto the cage gate. They hold there at a high position. Trece can see their claws. They appear to be small enough to wiggle or crawl through the space between the iron bars that make the cage gate wall, but so far they do not. None seem to be flying down low enough to pass through the low inner gate door.

Slightly dazed, Thorn's instincts are still able to move him out of the way of the evil bat-like monster's teeth. He sucks in a lungful of breath, trying to regain full control of his mind.

Kray's voice crashes through his momentary confusion as the noble charges to him from the hole in the floor: "Let's fucking go! Now!"

Reenergized, Thorn twists into action once more, though still feeling sluggish from the effects of the foul vapors vomiting forth from whatever-the-fuck those things were below.

Whatever-the-fuck. Best analysis available at the moment.

As Kray tears into the giant insect, Urdav's blade aims first for the bat still attached to Thorn, and then, in a burst of speed, slices into the huge demon before him.
OOC:
Sucking in lungful of breath = Second Wind
Correction on what Thorn's HP were prior to the Kray's Rally: 20/36, as he lost a further 4 HP from S5. Totally sucks. But back up to full health thanks to Rally & Second Wind.
Also, Action Surge.
After roll: Great. The attack with maximum damage is the one with a natural one.
After GWF reroll: And the universe is balanced.

Thorn slices the bat hooked under his arm. He feels a burst of blood pour out, likely some of his own mixed with the bat's.

Attack to Stirge Hit

He then hacks crossways, splitting right through one of the giant bats wings. When he brings the heavy sword around and down, it crashes through the bats head so hard that it continues straight through and chops into the floor. The monstrous bat drops in a heap.

Attack 2 and 3 to Giant Bat hit. Dead.
Attack 4 Miss.

Upper Chamber
Need Bryn's CON Save DC 12 vs. Droning Buzz from previous round. If Bryn saves, he can Action.
-->Bryn target options: stirge on Bryn, 2 stirges each attached to or attacking unconscious Sizhen and Maeriks.
After that, upstairs stirges will take their Turn.
After that, Kray will have Action.

Ground Level Chambers
Bad guys have acted.
Ivor still has current or slightly retcon Movement left if desired.
Beyond that, Trece and Ivor hold other updates momentarily so that I can keep time correspondence intact with what is going on in Upper Floor.

Bryn was hit by one Stirge, I’ll use uncanny dodge for 2 damage. I’ll roll that con save too.
Bryn tries to rip the creatures off Sizhen and Maeriks.

can I use my action/bonus to rip both of them off him, Or just one?

His head feels like he has been hit by a club. He nearly passes out at the sound of the droning buzz. His eyes are going blurry and he can barely see the big bug across the room.

Bryn sees Maeriks hit the floor ahead of him, and he realizes something is wrong. He looks back to see Sizhen sitting down and then laying over on his side, even with one of the clawed bats stuck to his chest and another fluttering around him.

Bryn shakes his head and fights hard to focus against the pulsing buzz. He moves to helps Sizhen.

Save Successful.

He grabs the bat by the back and head, gripping its disgusting flesh and fur tight. He pulls back, finding that the bat's needle nose had inserted into Sizhen.

Detach S4

The bat begins to squirm and flap its wings frantically. The vile creature wiggles out of Bryn's hands and flies straight at him!

S3 Attacks Sizhen while Unconscious. By Condition, that means at Advantage, any hit is a Critical.

One of the dice rolls below disappeared somehow in the initial post. I had to retype the Advantage Attack attempt at the bottom of the list.
S4 Attacks Bryn. S2 auto blood drain against Bryn.

This is correct. I typed S3 as the auto blood drain v. Bryn by mistake in the dice description below.
S10 Attacks Kray. S11 and S13 auto blood drain against Kray.

Cage Room
Ivor clear to shift to next round. Action!
Will allow Movement from last round if I was slave-driving too fast past an intent to Move. At that moment, Crawler would be Restrained condition in net.
Current round though, Crawler just got free of net and is 5' adjacent, stirges fucking everywhere flying around and attached
Ivor hears a splat of something hit the ground behind him (we know it was the big bug, but Ivor would not have seen it fall)
Features:
*statues just south of Ivor's position
*rope nearby going up to
*smoke covering the area, obscures visibility
*close torchlight from torch left by Kray burning on nearby statue
*glow of other light through smoke to north

North of Cage Gate
Trece shifts to next round. Action!
Features:
*lamp on shelf around west corner, casts plenty of illumination.
*short bow and 3 arrows on ground, dropped by goatish man who ran away
*body of devilish Eumash on the ground in his big black hooded robe.
*ring of dropped keys on the ground near Eumash
*mace on the ground
*Eumash has leather shoulder bag
*low inner gate still open, spoon jammed in latch that allows closing
*poison vapor still emerges past gate a few feet
*some stirges hanging on gate, but none coming through
*large neglected statues in northern room along the walls. Winged lions with human faces, a robed king-like figure, etc.

Ground Level, Cage Room

Ivor stabs at the reptile's legs right when it rolls free of the net, but it barely jumps to the side.

Attack 1 with Trip Miss
OOC:
I think keep that Fighter Maneuver, since it was not a hit and not used in the next one.
When the beast springs up, fanged maw open, Ivor brings the trident up quick in a slanting forward thrust. All three barbs catch under the crawler's mouth at the neck. They spear through flesh and windpipe, entering into the brain. The crawler is stuck writhing, a dying slab of scaled meat, until Ivor slings it hard into one of the statues. The body whips around tearing out from the barbs and thuds to the floor after flopping between statues.

Attack 2 Hit

With the bats flying all around him, slapping and clawing at his face, others already sinking their needles and claws into him, Ivor is starting to get disoriented in the room. He can barely see anything now. His head is spinning. His muscles are seizing up. The effects of the smoke are exacerbated as he breathes heavily from the exertion of combat. The only thing he can really see is the close torchlight and the other lighter glow from the north gate.
OOC:
Jabes, Ivor's scenario is a bad way. I have to speak bluntly so nothing is lost in translation.
This rope climb is shifting from DC 10 to DC 15, and still at Disadvantage.
There is a timer ticking to approach a second CON save vs. the poison gas. It's going to be bad.
The rope is 20', speed halved for Exhaustion. I've been counting the climb as 2 rounds, though it's more like 3 in reality.
The stirges are a literal HP drain every single round, with some staged up for auto drain and others still going to throw more attacks.

I saw your comments in Admin. I know I'm in danger of leading too strong to say what to do, but I'd rather live with that than have a PC death around the corner that might have been avoided if I had done better descriptions and given more clarity, so here goes some straight talk...

The low inner cage door on the north gate is open. Yes, Ivor doesn't know that, but there is a case to be made that he could suspect it.
The light is there, so it makes since that he could see where he is going.
He is also familiar with the large gate and the smaller inner gate from previously, when he was reaching through with the crowbar to manipulate the chain and got his on the arm. He knows it is not very far away, even if he can't see it.
Also he heard metal clanging sounds previously, suggesting that the gate door might be or might have been opened.
He heard some small sounds of a struggle before the stirges blew in and swallowed up a lot of the sound.

The gate is low in the smoke. For whatever reason, the stirges have not been flying out of there so far.

With 15' Movement, Ivor could get to the door and dip down, kind of Difficult Terrain at the last step there, but I say he gets to the other side.
And that could happen THIS round.

So, there it is. I've certainly may have blown the DM impartiality clause, so sorry if I've gone too far.
But on the other hand I feel compelled to lay the scene out clearly, and I think these are all things that Ivor may be able to assess with his feet on the ground living it out, just in case our gamer vision of what is going on is not as clear as it should be because of my lack of describing sufficiently.

No matter what, Ivor isn't out of the woods yet. He's still a bullseye target for a colony of stirges at the moment, but I think this next round or so of actions/decisions are going to be some of the highest stakes we've seen, so I have to tread carefully.

Kray is "go" upstairs.
Trece is "go" downstairs.
Jun 4, 2018 4:11 pm
OOC:
Thanks for laying it out, J, but yeah this is exactly how I picture what's happening. I would have gone for the rope next round but if the Crawler is toast and with his doubt that Trece is even still alive then yeah Ivor would try it right now. That's right: the rope climb, not the gate. Rolling normally as advantage from Rage cancels out disadvantage from Exhaustion. I know you can't "stack" things so CTM can't come into play to gain advantage.

"Wait up, Mercon." Ivor mutters under his breath as he digs deep. "I'm coming."

OK. I hear ya, bro. As long as you are going in eyes open.

Your comment on CTM: Let's say it counts; I don't have a problem with that.

You go from Disadvantage (Poison)...
Back to EVEN with an Advantage (Rage)...
Now at zero again, you go to Advantage (CTM).

Fire off CTM if you want to!
That means you REALLY want to kill the devil asshole that manages this facility.
