Episode 2

Balis moves like a predator. He instinctively shifts direction and chases Elam into the darkened section of the chamber.

Elam, was fast, but so was he. Uburatu was bleating, but Balis paid no attention. He could smell Elam's blood, could almost taste it. Balis would crack his bones and chew the marrow. Finally Suter-Set had agreed that Elam must be killed. It had been too long since Balis had been able to kill anyone, so he was not going to let this chance slip away.

Balis belts out a menacing laugh as he barely catches up with Elam to strike at him with his long axe.

Nabua's head is spinning. He's weak. He feels like he will faint.

https://dl.dropbox.com/s/rulecgj4hh61azf/Rabisu%20horror%20Nabua.jpg

He feels the blood oozing out from the wound in his abdomen. Another stab wound in his back. The pain is causing his body to stiffen up. He flinches with the sting of every movement that is not slow and careful.

Fear of death grips Nabua. It could come at him from anywhere in this room. From the Seetan. From Elam. Equally so, from Uburatu. He had to avoid Uburatu's wrath somehow, but must take care not to die trying.

Hiding in the shadows, he sees his chance. A chance for redemption in the eyes of the tyrant. He has to risk it.

Adar-Malic is only a few strides away now. He is reloading the plank bow, and his attention is on tracking Uburatu. Nabua draws his knife and makes his move.

Attack Adar-Malic
Disadvantage plus Advantage, effects cancelled. Normal Attack.
Hit

Gaining surprise, Nabua uses his other hand to grab the plank bow and tear the large arrow free. He snatches it as hard as he can to try to wrest it completely out of the tattooed twin's hands.

STR Athletics Disadvantage

Though he nearly passes out from the exertion, Nabua snatches the plank bow free from Adar-Malic's grip and stumbles away as best he can. He ducks low, bracing himself for a retaliation.

Adar-Malic is completely blindsided by Nabua's assault. He ducks back away from the blade just in time to avoid getting killed, but he feels the plank bow torn out of his hand.

He makes a last second dive at his brother, trying to grapple him and recover the weapon.

Dec 12, 2018 6:08 pm
Uburatu watches as Elam runs into the darkness with Balis in pursuit. The hulking captain scans the battlefield, alert against danger and watchful for opportunity.

Opportunity he sees. He would get back to Elam momentarily, but first he would spare a few seconds to kill Adar-Malic.

Movement.

A juggernaut stomping in, Uburatu crashes his shield against Adar-Malic full bore.

Shove and Shield Bash Attack
Khopesh Attack

Hit. Hit.

Adar-Malic is knocked away from Nabua like a rag doll, blown up against the stone wall. He bounces back stumbling and stunned, but Uburatu smashes him full force with the shield yet again, ramming the young man into the wall - the crunch of broken bone and splat of bludgeoned flesh.

When Uburatu backs away a step, Adar-Malic falls to the ground in a heap, landing face down.

Uburatu's khopesh falls heavy and swift. It splits the rib cage from the back, splattering blood all over Uburatu's shield and grieves.

Thorn
R3

Thorn engages with the encroaching myrmidon and sees an opening. He times it perfectly, thrusting the great two-handed sword straight through the metal and leather of the cuirass. He feels the blade slide through and hit the back of the armor. By positioning of the impalement, he judges he split the left lung and sliced he edge of the heart.

Attack 1 V. MX Hit
Menacing Attack Damage incorporated, but need for effects Save is Overtaken by Damage (OBD)

Thorn jerks the blade back and the armored warrior falls forward, hitting the stone floor in a crash and rattle.

Thorn throws a wide swing in the other direction at the spider fiend behind him. The spacing is a bit off and the strike hisses by without connecting, but it is enough to keep the monster from charging forward to strike Thorn while his back is turned.

Attack 2 (directed at SM7) Miss
OOC:
X, I took liberty to send it that way since you didn't need the damage after that nasty killshot on MX. It looked like the obvious choice when I studied he map because SM7 would be bearing down on Thorn ASAP. I think the strike, though a Miss, is a good explanation of why the spider doesn't get an OA Reaction nor Advantage for flanking or anything.

Kung Fu Devil will Advance. Not sure if I will be able to write it all in detail tonight, but if you want and if it is applicable you can plan ahead and post accordingly.

Check my understanding on this:

Reaction: Ready Action, set the trigger
Bonus Action: Patient Defense

So... that leaves Action still available.

And now you know that the trigger (devil charges) will be thrown.

So if you can lay the Action out, I think I am right in picturing it that your Action will occur in the split seconds before his as he comes forward to engage.

The spider and men hybrids overtaken by the pulsing gel mass strive desperately to escape. It is a fight for survival.

DC 12 First Attempt STR Athletics required to escape Gel Engulf

Two of the monsters are able to move out of the gel. The other does not emerge. Instead the hapless oaf is churned deeper into the center of the translucent sludge mass.

SM 6 and SM 1 Escape
SM 10 Fail Save

The two that emerge are almost locked with one another as they tear free. They stumble out, still coated with the slime, and crowd dangerously close to Bryn, almost overtaking him. Maeriks, or the great bull who WAS Maeriks, is also in danger of being climbed over by the flighting spiders.

The battle scene at that critical spacing is soon a dense stack of utter chaos and constant threat.

Uburatu
R3 (cont'd)

After striking down Adar-Malic, Uburatu turns and marches back towards the center of the room, leaving Nabua at the body of the fallen victim. Uburatu holds his enormous shield at the ready, as if guarding against missile fire.

Remainder of Movement used

He scans the battlefield and seems frustrated that he cannot both engage the line of invaders AND pursue Elam.

What is that? A bull?! More madness and witchery from Suter-Set and the Edimmu. The Pit is truly unbridled now.

Glaring Uburatu leaves the mass battle to the hybrids and pawns, turning instead towards the darkened area of the large room. He needed to eliminate the biggest problem first. He also sees Akkeen across the room on the opposite side.

"I just killed your frail twin, boy!" barks Uburatu, his voice as booming as it is merciless.

Looking at your map, is Thorn close enough to Bryn to make use of Sentinel if the opportunity arises?

OOC:
We could adjust to get to that position/scenario, but I think it would take an effect.

I had moved Thorn to the point on the map now trying to do something that made sense for
1) the idea of "stepping away from the gel",
2) allowed Attack to MX, and
3) avoided giving OA to SM7.

In order to use Sentinel, it seems that you would have to be adjacent to your ally, but also close enough for a quick strike against the offending opponent. The way I could think of that is to shift Thorn right on top of the body where Myrmidon X lies now. It would be as if Thorn stabbed that guy dead and then stepped right in to overtake his spot. At that point, Thorn would be adjacent to Bryn, but also threatening Myrmidon Y with a hair-trigger Sentinel option, maybe even as soon as this round (R3) depending on if MY Attacks Bryn.

So that would be the main upside. Other upsides might include:
2) cutting down on the possibility of Thorn getting separated and isolated to fight healthy SM7 and SM8 alone
3) would pull PC group closer together as the battlefield continues to unravel into chaos

Downsides I could see though are:
1) Thorn would have to be on the receiving end of a Reaction OA right then during R3 for moving away from SM7
2) SM7 and SM8 could then flood in hard on that space south of Thorn and Bryn, would leave Bryn in a seemingly crowded spot still so close to the Gel with fewer avenues of withdrawal
3) Bryn could easily be exposed to flanking danger, with the likelihood of enemies on both sides (that could happen anyway, depending - but it would seem inevitable if you pulled in high and left)

Let me know if you want to shift Thorn to stand next to Bryn and MY (over the spot where MX lies).

All strategery! Your call. Good question though.

Anyone else, let me know today if you want any last minute PC Movement incorporated on the map. There are some other places to step. Wherever you end up though we have to think it through on effect from surrounding threats, namely OAs from SMs/Ms and potential Movement and spacing of the Gel!

As part of his attempt to grapple and shove into the gel, Maeriks would have positioned himself just north of Z. I believe that movement would have been before SM1 escaped the gel.
OOC:
For ease of reference, I've hacked the battlemap to stick itself to the top of the page. I can edit this post to remove that if anyone finds it disruptive. If you like it, and the map updates, you can quote this post (to get the bb-code) and post it again, which will lay it on top of mine, keeping only the most recent map on top.

Can Thorn be just on the right side of 4's corpse? That would protect Bryn from flanking, I think. I'm totally fine if that provokes an OA from SM7. Give me a chance to use Riposte.
